Just got this from my mom. She has points to get products so don't think this can be returned. My wife pulled out of original package and plugged in to charge.
Powered it on whwn i got home from work And it just shows regular stuff but with a lot of red.
tried different settings... Not sure what's going on. Any help?
Looks faulty to me. If it's new then regardless of how it's been acquired it should be replaced or sent in for repair.
I'm starting to wonder if it's just software related. Bad install. I took pictures and all the black areas are Red like above. But I send the picture to my email and they look perfect.
I emailed samsung. who knows how long that will take.
I wonder If I was to find and get the original rom and reinstall if it will be ok.
After thinking about it. The site where she got it from said it would come with KitKat 4.4.4 this has the new lollipop 5. Whatever it is.
Will this device support lollipop?

I brought up the donloading odin screen and even the recovery. Both are the same. Red....
Could it still be software... cause sometimes the home screen will go back to normal with only a few dots red.
Or is the video card or whatever bad?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using XDA Free mobile app
Could be a lot of different things....
Bad display panel
Loose connection to panel
Bad graphics chip
Bad connection of the chip to mainboard
No matter how you obtained it, it should have a warranty from Samsung and I would call them and get it fixed. I don't think it's a software issue, but I'm not an expert by any means.
BTW, I think, with a proper cable/adapter, you can connect to a HDMI TV/monitor and see if it displays poorly on that. (This is a big issue but as I read MHL 3.0 will work but may be a bit blurry) If it does it might rule out software or a bad graphic chip? I suspect it's a bad panel or connector to it as you say the screen captures look fine.
Got the receipt from my mom and found out it was sent by best buy. I grabbed everything and took to local store. They swapped it out after looking at the screen no questions asked.
The one guy said it looks like the digitizer. But ok... Thanks for all help. Admin can close this if they want.

Hi, when i open my gamepad slightly my screen will flash black, and if i hold it in a certain positionbit will stay black until moved.
This also happens sometimes when picking up my phone
Is it a loose cable or something?
Should i get it replaced?
Rooted stock R800i, .42
Thanks
Probably the ribbon cable inside the slider. It's a known defective part.

So i could claim it on my warranty?
I got this problem too. But mine worse, sometimes when I wanna type a message the screen goes black, or the screen's light go like disco light, keep blinking at the home page and camera. I sent to Sony Centre to claim warranty but after few days they returned me and told me it was a software problem. Could this be kernel problem?
Yeah, sometimes just touching the screen can do it
I want to unroot before i cant see anything haha
Ive noticed that its just the backlight that goes off, if i make it go black and look at the screen in light i can still see the things there
Im going to request a replacement regardless, starting to annoy me
I tried to reinstall stock firmware but no use. Still the same. I'm gonna tear everything apart and take a look at the ribbon.

DO NOT I repeat, DO NOT take it apart!!
Once you do that your warranty is void permanently and no way to hide it! I can guarantee it's not your software. Revert it to absolute perfect stock and show them it still happens. I'm positive it's the hardware, NOT software.
If they don't wanna fix it after factory restoring, threaten to call head office about it because you already know it's hardware error and they are refusing.
And also mention that many people on the internet are aware that the slider cable is faulty, many have replaced it and fixed the same problem you have.
I'm thinking of mailing them, and requesting they have a recall because more and more people are having the same problem.

Ok, the screen only flashes black on SYSTEM APPS. The installed apps dont have this issue
Seems to have happened after i rooted
Any new ideas?
Okay. Thanks captain. I will follow your orders.
Ok, so ive tried to claim on my warrenty. They said they were gunna send a packet out to return the phone for repair. This was a few weeks ago. Within this time i have called them up 3 extra times stating i havnt recieved the pack.
Is this easy enough to fix myself as im bored of waiting for them and im doubting im ever going to recieve any repair
Thanks

A few users have reported a Blank Screen of Death, with myself included.
The problem being that the phone's display doesn't switch on when you wake up the device. At this time, Everything else will including the Digitizer and Capacitive buttons.
I have spoken with HTC service centers across Australia and NZ to come to the conclusion that this is a motherboard problem. The infamous flickering issue seems to be involved also, which ends up shorting out the video driver.
The issue isn't just limited to the screen not displaying anything either, there's also the possibility that the back light will cut out, and sometimes leading to corruption on the display.
This isn't just with some devices either, it seems like anyone that has had the screen flickering issue are at risk of this.
To give you an idea of how much it costs to fix this issue, I was quoted at $250 AUD for just the motherboard alone.
The best part is, HTC may also deny your warranty for unlocking your bootloader, as they have with me.
I'll be posting more information as it develops.
EDIT 29/07/12 :: I'm going to request a transcript of my last conversation with HTC but until then, they're denying that this is a problem and saying that it's the user's fault. How? We use our phones to much, or inappropriately.
It's becoming obvious that they're trying to avoid spending anymore money fixing these issues, and have decided just to move on and release a new One X model. (according to news sources.)
Also, Boobinator just posted a video of the One X's screen corrupting while it isn't stuck under the BSOD which you can see here and here
Just to recap.
When the initial issues were found with screen flickering and corruption on the display, we were told it was a software issue.
Many months later, I along with many of you are still experiencing it, even though it's not nearly as bad as it once was.
Now there are growing reports that One X's are starting to lose their displays, and the poly-carbonate weakening and bending the antenna pins. (You can find more information here)
This is something you should all be aware about when purchasing this phone.
Best of luck!

Update Bump
Maybe us in America can file a class action lawsuit? I'm no lawyer here but anyone with better understanding of American consumer laws chime in?
This is problem that occurs with normal usage of the phone.
Another day, another hardware issue. HTC is going down the drain, im hugely disappointed in the way they are handling this mess. Improper testing, too slow to fix problems or ignore/deny them. Bull**** games about unlocking and warranty and now they are already talking about releasing more phones. Its easier for them to move on to a new model than to do the right thing and do a complete recall. Is this a QC issue or a design flaw, with all the negative reports I'm thinking its the latter.
HTC better handle this properly, they need to stop development on all new products untill this is solved.

Can u please send me details about the store that sells the motherboard ?
I have the same problem...and I need my phone fixed !
Thx
Is this the same flickering that happens in some ROMs when you rotate the phone?
Mine too
This just started happening to mine Nothing displayed on the screen, but it still responds to inputs. Even rebooting into fastboot, same problem. So everything is functioning except the display.
Have just handed it back to vodafone for repair, don't like my odds with the unlocked bootloader though :/
I had this issue on Viper or Android Revolution, but not on other ROMs. But I'm starting to get wifi issue, scratches, scratches on camera lins. I should buy S3, not this.

This happened to my Incredible S too if any one's interested.....
I'm not buying the HOX, I'm sorry. There's just too many different issues for too many people with this phone. It's an expensive top of the line phone, that does appear to be pretty shoddy put together. I don't care if it's under warranty and I have dumbass-insurance if I break it, but I can't send my phone inn all the time even if it's free. You shouldn't have to send it in at all.......
I presume now know we know why HTC is loosing money, market share and their stocks are going down....
This happened to me too, about a month ago, the phones been in repair since then(1 month, are you freaking kidding me HTC). I also unlocked the bootloader, lets see whether HTC charges me or not.
Also, I managed to get the display to work(somewhat) after shaking the device a bit. But even after that the display wont work properly, I even have 2 short videos of the screen acting weird when i got it to work. Here they are - Video 1 Video 2
Sorry for the ****ty quality, got it on my iphone. This was after I shook the device and the display magically started working. Even with the display working you can see it is really weird, even unresponsive at times.
So guys, there are a lot of places you can buy motherboards from, but they will charge you a lot more than what it's worth mainly because of the shortage within HTC.
I'm so sorry all of you are going through this, but i think we need to raise awareness of this issue. People are buying these phones without realizing there's a good chance they're going to have either bad WiFi antenna's or even a bad motherboard.
Send this to your friends, post it around, contact HTC.
Best of luck!
I am having this problem as well, as well as the WiFi antenna issue. The WiFi antenna somehow bent itself somehow, because after a while it was back to normal signal strength, so I didn't feel like sending the phone away for a month. But now with this screen issue it really is unusable, so it seems I don't have a choice anymore

Heat damage.
I doubt it's heat damage, i hardly played games on mine and it had that problem. I think the most i played was Triple Town, and that was it.
Also, wouldn't it be a massive problem if it was heat damage? That means the tegra 3 processor can't handle stress, and given that the phone inherently has heating issues, this just draws the conclusion that the Tegra 3 is bad news?
it may be a faulty soc
From what I've heard, it's been linked directly to the flickering screen problem. Which could mean that the first batch of One X's have all faulty Soc's? I mean, it's not uncommon for there to be manufacturing difficulties for the first few batches, but this is just absurd.

I've searched the forums for a while and haven't found an issue exactly like this..
At first my phone would boot and the soft keys would light up and the LED would shine while charging. Shortly after that, I had no display and no illumination whatsoever on my screen. I just disassembled the phone to make sure all of the bands and connecters are connected and they are fine. I have reason to believe the screen works because when I receive a call, i can press where I usually would to accept calls and it works.
I have done some research on getting a new digitizer, screen, ribbons, etc.. but it's just too costly to justify it seems.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Depends on where you go and who you get. The last time I went, the associate thought it was awesome that I have sense on my phone. If possible, Odin back though.
I did get around to blindly putting my phone into download mode and flashing the stock tar through odin.. I'm assuming the flash worked since I heard the stock boot/shutdown animation theme music accordingly.
Unfortunately the screen and the soft keys are still not illuminated. The QWERTY remains functional including backlighting.
My phone is no longer on any network, but do you think I could still take it up to a location and bs my way into getting at least a used equal or lesser value device?
Put it up on Fleabay as a clean ESN, broken screen phone and stop wasting our time while you try to scam Sprint.

You're right, certainly not an ethical option. I'm more of a DIY person though, as I'm sure I could say the same for everyone else here.
Do you think it's the whole screen that needs to replaced? Ribbons and all? If so, do you know of a good source for me to purchase what I need

So I bought my note 2 a few weeks ago. I've loved everything about it until a few days ago, when I realized there was something going on with my s pen (or screen). I've attached a picture that will make it easier to see what the issue is. Basically, there is a roughly 1 cm wide band (the dashed region in the attached picture) running down the length of the screen where the s pen simply refuses to write or touch; it'll avoid it or jump past it. I've been reading about the s pen and it may be a defective s pen... but then again it may have something to do with the screen. I can use my finger just fine... just the s pen won't work right on that strip of the screen. Let me know if you know why this is happening and/or how to fix it! Thanks!

It sounds to me like a hardware problem. I would try toggling the spen settings and seeing if any of them fix it. But you will probably have to get your phone replaced by samsung. I think this is the number to call (888) 987-4357
Yeah that is definitely a hardware issue, luckily one that is covered by Samsung. You'll get a new one free of charge. Just call customer care and they will direct you on how to handle the exchanging process.
If you have Sprint, you might as well just make an appointment at a service center since that's exactly what they'll tell you to do so they can diagnose the issue on-site and in-person. Then they will most likely mail you a new one (or re-manufactured, but not refurbished) and have you send the old one in the return package.

Took it in to Sprint, and the guy told me the digitizer was defective. I don't have TEP so he offered to fix it for $55. Screw that! I may have to go a week or so without my phone but Samsung is going to fix it for free since it's covered in the warranty. Thanks for the help, guys!
Yeah that's crap. Well enjoy the new one.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Don't know if I'd believe the Sprint tech that it's a digitizer issue if you can draw those lines with your finger. But regardless, I'm sure Samsung will be able to figure out what the actual problem is.
Hi guys, I have a weird problem and I need your advice.
My brand new galaxy Note 3 Sm-N900T is having screen blackouts....
Its like after the screen timeout the screen goes off and then when I press the power button it doesn't go back on again.
Or if I turn the screen off it doesn't go back on again... the buttons are working the sounds are on, I can answer calls and everything but the screen is black.
If I play with it (pressing power or home buttons) for a while it comes back on. Sometimes the phone restarts (rarely, I think because i press power button).
I have tried everything from playing with settings to wiping the cache and resetting the phone few times.
It looks like its a software issue to me, or maybe sensor.. but i think that when power button is pressed the screen should turn on regardless of sensors.
I do have the custom S-Case but I had the issue even before I got that.
Now.. I have few choices :
1. Go to t-Mobile and get a replacement.. probably refurbished, not a fact that the problem will away because I heard of lots of people having this issue ...
I of course do not want to do that.. I have this phone for less than a month.
2. Wait for KitKat....
3. install some kind of custom rom and see if problem goes away.
If anyone can help, Id really appreciate it.
I would do an exchange.. you paid good money for it and a defect is a defect, I wouldn't depend on a 3rd party patch for this

sucks man.
I know on my htc onei have the purple camera problem but everything else was fine. they had to send me 2 replacements because the first one had a yellow screen and worse camera then mines.
Tmobile doesnt even check there replacement. Most of the time there phones that people traded in. And all they do with those is a power on check.
Now if you just got the phone and within the 14 exchange you can take it to the store and get a brand new one.
Had it for more than 2 weeks now.. since i was always playing with it i did not notice the problem .. (the screen was always on).
I called Samsung and Tmobile. I told tmobile that samsung said i have a defective phone. so Tmobile is sending me a "Like new" phone meaning that someone returned it within 14 days. I get to check it and if i dont like it i will just send them their phone back. and suddenly mine doesnt do the problem for 30 minutes lol.. maybe it got scared. Personally i think that KitKat would fix it.
Any force closes? I had this problem too untill I stopped using the crapy My Magazine bloatware, which was also sometimes force closing...
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
No, no force closes, but one time it was funny, a little bit of status bar appeared from the bottom and on top it was a little bit cutoff.... like someone slid the screen up few pixels.
And whatever was cut just came from the bottom. Its weird... for $700 phone it should be flawless... I hope they dont send me crap phone and i hope they dont send my phone to someone else.
How can i get rid of it to see if that was the problem?

Well, I dont know what to think anymore... Looks like the problem persists but happens so rare that without the past I wouldnt notice it.
This makes me believe that with KitKat it will probably disappear. If soft changes cause this to go away or be less it means (to me) that the phone is not defective. New phone is still on the way, to bad I did not purchase it at local store... I did it online, so there is no one to yell at.
It will arrive on Feb 6th so I have plenty of time to test my phone, with some luck KitKat will roll out during this time and then I will be able to definitely see. And if new phone is cool I have the option of exchange anyway .
Thank you all for your help, keep posting, its an interesting issue.
