So only problem why regular OTG cable won't work on our phone is power supply so you have 3 solutions, follow this great tutorial or buy OTG cable with power supply or make it yourself it's very easy ive just did it... It isn't so pretty but it's working great...
You need regular OTG cable, usb extension cord ( 0.5 or 1m ) and charging adapter...
1st you cut OTG cable in half and remove protection you will see 5 wires ( red black white green and yellow )
2nd cut usb extension cord near female connector u don't need it ( here we will use only red and black wire )
3rd on cutted OTG cable connect wires with it's own colors and than connect red and black wires with usb extension cord ones
4th now you need to take some tape and wrap every connection so you don't get short circuit
Wola direct OTG without reduced speed from USB hub

You can also use any power bank instead of charger.....to provide extra power needed for OTG to work.

yeah, it would be possible to attach any USB device (like on your pc) to the Phone (USB Flash Drive, Keyboard, Mouse, ......... )
cables
I could only find cables in china has anyone seen any for sale in the uk ?
you can make the micro USB to USB 'A' cable with a few bits and a soldering iron or some electrical tape. They seem to be scarce over here so thats what i plan on doing.
i have a "female - female" USB Cable here. if i plug this in my normal micro USB-Cable will this work?
Desire -> Micro-USB-Cable -> Female - Female-USB-Cable -> USB-Keyboard
I ordered from the ebay guy he adivised on his site
@kingchris
Nah this wont work. The reason he uses the powered hub and the special power cable is because the phone itself doesnt give out 5v like a normal USB port so devices are having to steal it from elsewhere.
So with your keyboard setup, the data lines will be connected but it will have no power.
so a normal Micro-USB cable to a USB-HUB and then to the keyboard?

Dont know if you even need the hub. Its the special dual ended power cable you need. Just need some way to pump 5v down towards the keyboard. *i think*
http://www.span.com/product_info.php?products_id=22810
Here a link to a company selling the power cable. Based in Surrey.
i think it will work if you don't plugin as much devices as the guy in the video.
you can use one of these to convert your existing Charging Cable to a Female Port
Amazon.de
or
Amazon.co.uk
Edit: kay, not sure if the gender changer is all you need
The most Micro USB to USB converters are not work if you want to use it for OTG converter, because the 4. pin of the micro usb plug is not connected!
The most ebay and computer shop's converters like this!
If you want to use it for working OTG adapter you have to connect the micro usb connector 4. pin to GND (5. pin).
Like this:
I made this mod on my adapter and it works!
First you have to open up the outter cover and carve the plastic around the micro usb pins. You can use multimeter to check the pinout.
After that solder the 4. pin to 5. pin with a piece of wire.
And finally glue back the outter cover.
Video:
So if you have not working adapter you can mod it, if you have suffice experience with electronic and proper tools.
Only do with your own risk!
I have this Usb converter!
With your mod works perfectly!!
just tried it it works perf, thank you!

OTG Cable USB (B) to Micro USB (A) Powered with AAA batteries ?
As one knows, Samsung has promised a MHL Cable
You noticed it is not only a cable but a box out of which you may plug in an extra power supply.
The obvious reason is if the passive monitor does not furnish 5V, the phone will rapidly be out of power.
Now you know that to obtain video rather than anything less, Pin 4 (sense) and 5 (Ground) of micro USB (male A) must be connected with a 365K resistance.
I suppose the dock Samsung is selling for I9100 (yes, I have it) is grounded at 1000K as it provides audio with remote, and yes, the dock provides power supply via extra micro USB as well.
I come to my point: If I want to access any USB data On the Go, I need a cable OTG with 2 ports: USB 2.0/3.0 (female, B sided) to a micro USB (male, A sided, grounded but with no resistance = 0K). Many of them exist on the market out there.
But it is quite impossible to use because of lack of power supply in the passive device (let’s say a handy 1T HDD usually powered via Host connexion !
Would it be possible to insert some sort of receptacle for AAA battery in the middle of such a cable to provide for power while you are for a long time out of access to an electric plug ? Does such a cable exist somewhere to buy ? What would be the sheme to mount this ? HELP !
Is it possible to add USB charging cable to USB-host cable? I want to use mouse\keyboard\flash and charge device in the same time.
I also interested how to add power to USB-host cable for devices "High-power device connected".
OTG and Power
thats excactly my question:
is it possible to use otg cable with a trackball or mouse and at same time charge the S2?
give power to usb mouse and charge S2 over a charger!?
Is it possible to use a game controller over usb otg? Would be pretty nice.

I've been try this, but still doesn't work for me..I'm also used electrical multi-tester, and the usb flash already has 5V voltage but in my sgs2 still nothing happen (my usb flashdisk doesn't mounted to sgs2)..
Is there any driver/apps do I need to install first before using OTG?? or, is there two kind of sgs2, the one which support OTG and the other one not??
please someone help me...One point I choose this SGS2 is the OTG feature..
PS: sorry for my english
Sorry fr startng a new thread, wen so many threads r available showing video proofs of working OTG cable.......bt i reliazed, tht making a own OTG cable s much simpler n can be done without ne cutting or soldering
First d basics -
1. Generic USB cable (For data transfer or charging) is different from OTG cable - IN OTG cable, Pin 4 is shorted wth Pin 5........in essence, Galaxy S 2 is able to differentiate between USB OTG cable thru this pin.....
2. For converting any generic cable to OTG cable, u just need to short Pin 4 with Pin 5 and it will work like a charm.....
3. I have done this using Motorola Micro male to Mini female adaptor - theoretically, u can do this by using any cable which has 5 wires/pins coming from micro plug - cable supplied with samsung shud also be able to do this
4. U can simply test self made OTG wire - on connecting it wth phone, it should show "USB host connected" in status bar even without connecting any flash/pen drive
Now details -
Pin usage - normal Micro B plug (used in galaxy S 2) - uses Pin 1,2,3 and 5 for data/charging. U need to cut open the wire just where micro plug is connected and short pin4 to pin5. Alternatively, u can use an adaptor (like Micro to Mini) and try shorting the wires at outlet. I have done using stapler pin. Its easy and saves u trouble of opening/cutting or soldering any wire. Hope the pics r clear
Male Plug -
5 4 3 2 1

\ _ _ _ /
I have then attached Micro male-mini female (shorted) adaptor to Mini USB-USB 2.0 and then to female USB-female USB adaptor and finally to Pen drive
I will try to attach a video proof, in case sumone needs it. For indian users, u can get hold of Motorola Micro male to mini female adaptor @ Heera panna in mumbai or Gaffar market in delhi for Rs 150
P.S. - Shorting Pin 4 to Pin 5 to enable OTG mode is not my discovery and i understood it going thru multiple searches and posts on XDA and other sites. Sorry for not linking to those posts
Thats just a nice idea because you don't need to cut or damage one of the adapters.
And a good solution till the original USB OTG cable is in stock.
Thanks.

Do ALL SG2's come OTG host enabled??? cause I tried this and doesn't work for some reason.... I've opened up a micro-usb connecter all the way to the plug and soldered 4 and 5 together...still nothing (tried the staple method first ofcourse but I saw that black and the xtra cable were actually internally already connected)

Basic difference between Generic n OTG cable s pin lay out....
Generic helps u connect s2 as slave to PC/laptop n OTG cable helps u connect other USB drives to S2, thus making it a master....Hope it clarifies ur doubt

I bought this USB OTG (On The Go) cable online at eBay.in for Rs.115.

price - 100 rs.
works with sgs2, and all accessories including pen drives and mouse/keyboard and even game pads

First decide which functionalities u want in the hub...
1. MHL - For HDMI connector ??
2. USB OTG ??
3. Normal USB - Charging and Data ??
I understand that new MHL adaptors (S3,S4) are 11 PIN and thus only 2 of the above 3 can be used simultaneously (MHL-HDMI with Normal USB OR MHL-HDMI with USB OTG)...
U will have to search for the Pin lay out of your phone and whether it supports MHL-HDMI output or not and then can work towards it :good:

I bought a original Samsung USB OTG Cable for my Samsung Galaxy S3 from online store ( shopsection.com ) , can anyone post tips and tricks about it.
according to my testing, Most of all USB devices can access
1- Amazing cable, it works perfect in Galaxy S II, Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note
2- Connect pendrive 2GB, 4GB, 8Gb, 16GB and access files , documents, songs, movies instant from your S3
3- Like to draw anything without C-Pen stylus? connect USB mouse and draw anything u want as like in computer mouse cursor
4- feeling touch to type on touch screen? connect USB keyboard via OTG cable and start typing SMS and Emails.
5- Does your friends running out of battery ?, connect their mobile with their usb data cable to OTG cable and get charged
6- Also if your friend give access for "Mass storage" access his files from his mobile phone
7- want to take instant printout from your S 3, connect printer USB to OTG cable and give a shot

also if anyone has more tips and tricks for this OTG cable, kindly post it. so thrilled to enjoy its benefits.
I heard also Xbox 360 wired remotes work as well
I have a chinese non-oem OTG cable and works fine with pretty much every USB devide I have (usb memories, keyboard, mouse). I havent tried game remotes or a printer.
Not as amazing as the adapter Samsung will be releasing whenever they can be bothered because it will use the full 11 pins and allow MHL and other accessories simultaneously, but like always they take so long releasing accessories people just get pissed off while they waiting.
Yes Micheal 100% acceptable. only advantage for OTG cable was they launched long back after few months from Galaxy SII. But same cable we are using it for Galaxy Note and Galaxy SIII. But we are really worried for Flip Cover launch for SIII. it took nearly 2 weeks time from SIII mobile launch.
There are plenty of local manufacturers releasing case and covers and even OTG cable. only this guy has the original samsung OTG cable in India shopsection.com/item/USB_Host_OTG_Cable_for_Samsung_Galaxy_S_3 for sale with offer price.

You need MHL cable to connect HDMI to Tv and you can't connect over Mass Storage mode to Tv, Car etc because Samsung in their wisdom decided not to include it, and I know iPhone has things like blood pressure and heart rate monitors you can connect but never heard of it on Android, but it's possible to create a driver to connect pretty much anything with a USB port to Android.

The first thing that you need to check is how your thumb drive is formatted. I haven't tried a thumb drive on my SIII yet but on Atrixs I've evaluated they could only interface with FAT thumb drives. NTFS wouldn't work. You should also try a different model of thumb drive, I don't know about the power requirements but it might just be too high.
USB On The Go cable awareness not upto the level. Samsung must advertise about their accessories too as like Nokia. OTG cable is really useful to access files instant. but i wonder why its only suitable for very few models and since Galaxy Y is also has update android firmware.

I am very keen to find out if i can use a Nexus 7 as a portal Media machine to play back movies from a thumb drive on Hotel TVs when i travel without the need to move the file.
I understand I'd lose ability to charge the nexus 7 using USB OTG (OTG limitation) but I can live with that.
Thanks for any results
Tony.

AFAIK the Slimport cable needs to be directly plugged into the USB port so it can switch the Nexus 4 from standard microUSB to Slimport broadcast mode on negotiating with the hardware. If you attempted to run the Slimport adaptor through a hub or Y-cable it wouldn't work.
Thanks,
I was wondering if I could plug an OTG cable into the female on something like:
(sorry if direct product links aren't allowed)

I have attempts to connect an OTG cable to the female port on my Slimport without any luck. The Slimport worked well otherwise.

Yeah, the microUSB port on the Slimport is for power only, the data pins aren't even wired up.
Suppose I connect Nexus 7 to a monitor through SlimPort. This monitor has USB ports built in. If I connect a keyboard or mouse to this USB port, will it work with the tablet?

No - this wont work.
As stated above the data pins on the slimport are not connected so the USB can't be used for anything other than power.
ie. Tablet can't do anything else over usb when the slimport is in use.
Bluetooth keyboard + mouse could work for you though

Thanks. My intention was to use the tablet as a PC alternative for my parents. I have dropped the idea. Now I am thinking about getting one of those Android mini PCs instead (thread here).
The issue is the limited number of pins on the Micro USB port are multi-purpose.
A Micro USB port has 5 pins, one is power and another is ground, that leaves 3 for data. These 3 "flip" (for want of a better word) between USB mode and Slimport mode, So it can only do one or the other at any time.
So the lack of data pins on the slimport pass-through port (as stated above) is not the issue. They didn't bother wiring them up because they share a couple of pins in common and so wouldn't work anyway.
[Edit]
Just to clarify a slimport Micro USB connector has 5 pins. Samsung on the other hand are now using MHL 3.0 and they are pushing on with an 11 pin connectors that open up all sorts of options such as simultaneous data connections and even multiple displays! nice!

Exactly. SlimPort™ Technology White Paper has a nice explanation along with the good picture showing SlimPort architeture (see page 4)
