Following the problem I posted here weeks ago, I received news that my friend from the UK already received my order (3 pieces of slider flex) and that she sent it already. I'll be receiving it Tuesday next week.
Not that I don't trust SE Service Centers here in my country but the phone was just released last September here and I'm thinking their technicians might not be properly trained yet with ripping apart an Xperia Play. I'm just kinda worried they might screw up my phone when I let them install the slider flex.
So I ripped open my Play last week (I used to tear down K800's and K810's and successfully put them back) just to check the innards of my beautiful phone, and to my surprise I can't seem to properly put back the slider flex!!! So I technically tore it apart during the reinstallation (I don't care, besides it's getting replaced ).
I was just thinking, what if Service Centers here still don't know what they're doing and do the same mistake I did? Yes I ordered 3 pieces of the flex but I don't want them to be using them all up just because of their stupidity.
If you guys would be just so kind and show me a video how to properly reinstall the slider flex, it would be a real big help, REALLY! Not only will I save money for train fare to the nearest service center, I will also have saved labor costs and time as you know I am training for EMT and I have a very tight schedule.
I already watched a tear down video on YouTube but it doesn't help that much.

I really missed my Play... It's already a month since it broke. Please help a fellow get back to his ecstatic gaming days again!
A couple of things before i post a video..
1. Why did you try and do the repair yourself if you have no experience, you may have damaged something other then the slider flex and might as well get a new phone, what i would have done is returned the phone to the original place i purchased it from.
2. The Sony center where u live must have some quality control/expertise otherwise they wouldn't be working there, Are you still sure they can replace the slider flex for you even if you have voided the warranty by opening the phone?
3. If they damage the phone further when they try the repair, blame them and ask for a replacement or compensation. As it's an official part of Sony (I think so going by what your saying) this shouldn't be a problem.

Before anything else I'd like to say thanks for the reply.
My answers:
1. I only wanted to peek inside it, not to really repair it. I may have no experience in repairing Xperia phones, but I have a lot of experience on the old Cyber-Shot line of phones from Sony Ericsson. I'm tried enough to know what may break, how delicate flex/ribbon cables can be, or what static electricity may cause to the device. A lot of people still owe me big time for repairing their Cyber-Shot phones.
Swear, my Play was back in shape after tearing it down, excluding the slider flex of course as I kinda did that intentionally. Like I said, besides it's going to be replaced.
2. Sony Ericsson Service Centers here in the Philippines, for your information, have received many criticizing blows from blogs and forums alike not only because some of their staff/personnel are pricks and assholes (including the women, REALLY!), but they sometimes do technical errors that worsen the condition of the phone. I remember one guy from the forum whose phone's condition worsened because SE technicians forgot to replace one part. He had to bring his phone all the way to our capital city and that's around a thousand kilometers from where he lives.
I would probably want to take the repair in my hands because if anything bad's going to happen, there's only myself to blame. Besides, I bought 3 slider flexes, just in case I break one.
3. I'd really let hell break loose if they break my phone, SWEAR!
PS: Regarding bringing back the phone to them, or about breaking the warranty when I opened it, that's a problem long disregarded. I live in the Philippines, and my Play was bought by my mom-in-law in Hong Kong when she was working there. So basically, the warranty is only honored in HK, and there's no way I'm going there anytime soon. I've got some (but not much) money to spend for repairs and collateral damage.

Apparently, that video was the same one I used when I first opened my Play. The installation of the flex wasn't shown that much. Besides, when I opened my Play, the flex was folded in a position that obscures the proper fitting of the PCB, that's why I tore it. It's kinda weird.
The instructions from the Chinese website wasn't that helpful at all. They skipped many parts.
Additionally, I would like to know how do I disconnect the digitizer flex. I can't seem to successfully dislodge the S-like flex from the PCB.

It should be in the manual, it's an official repair manual for the phone just look through it carefully
thanks yet again ff7fan4eva, i skimmed through it last night and found what i was looking for..
I have been having documents like that (the pdf disassembly guide) since java days. So if it's an official repair manual (I doubt because the English in the manual sucks hahaha), do SE technicians use them for real? Then I might as well let SE guys here in my country repair my phone after all. Besides, when reading the manual you posted, I don't seem to have that conductive foam that covers the slider/hinge flex that needs to be replaced once detached.
So again, the question, could SE technicians be using these kinds of documents because they're official? I'm just worried technicians here aren't that well-versed yet on repairing a R800i since the phone was released here just a month ago. I don't want any more damage done to my phone anymore. I waited long enough just for the replacement of the hinge flex. I FRACKIN' MISS MY PHONE!!!!!!

you should have consulted SE Center first and canvas for the pricing before tearing your phone apart.. they could have the parts your looking for all ORIGINAL and not BOOTLEG..

New poster here and searched the threads but didn't find much relevant. Interested in knowing about anyone's experience with Samsung for the Galaxy Nexus GSM (Play Store). Mine has been horrid. My mic and ear speaker seemed to stop working. After searching found out the phone thought a headset was connected at all times. Seems like a common problem. Used an app to bypass but its annoying to turn it on and off so did a warranty return.
Sent it in the original box. When Samsung received it they said in the notes that it wasn't properly packaged. They also marked the screen and camera lens were damaged due to scratch. I knew about that. Simple keys in pocket issue but not worried about that. Normal wear and tear and my fault. Scratches are minor noticeable but zero problem.
A few days later I receive an email that they are now going to charge me about 200 to repair including the LCD. Said that the LCD had water damage. Its never been near water nor did I report or have a problem with the LCD. Called and got what I thought was their offshore support (which I had no issue with). When I said I did not feel a charge of 200 was appropriate and questioned the water damage they transferred me to the US to escalate. I had to call back a second time because the first was outside of central time hours.
Here then support rep was inflexible and almost rude. Said that they discovered water damage on the LCD. When I said the phone has never been near water, the screen worked fine, and in reported it for a microphone jack issue he said it didn't matter. They could tell it was water damaged from the type of damage (no idea how they could include this) and that Samsungs policy was they could only fix all or none. So it was $200 to fix a non broken LCD and presumably my actual problem (the headphone jack) or nothing. I said forget it, return it, and I would escalate it later. Got it back the following week. My box was gone... just returned it in the air filled packaging ,material.
Further the phone is now worse. They didn't put the screen back on well and little red tags stick out the front. Its uneven. And I found the proximity sensor is no longer working. And it doesn't always seem to charge. Has become nearly useless.
Going to call back on Monday and see what they say. Followed by a written letter then if that doesn't work may pursue legal options.
There is no visible water indicator. Nor did it ever get near water.
Thoughts? Anybody have similar stories with their galaxy nexus. Going to make me think twice about buying a phone through the play store. Already had problems with the nexus 7 but at least Google handles the returns themselves for the first 14 days.

Maybe not the same device but here goes.
I'm in UK . My galaxy tab 10.1 had a dust particle right in the middle of the screen. To be honest it didn't look like dust but something like white/cream gel type dot. Rang Samsung they said to send it and will check it out. Next day (less than 14hrs) got a plastic bag with bubble wrap and instructions what to do.
It said DO NOT SEND CHARGERS , MEMORY CARD OR ORIGINAL PACKAGING. Although bubble wrap was bit to short I've "wrapped it" in a piece of cardboard box.
Week later device has been repaired and sent back to me (need to go to post office on Monday to collect it tho.)
Now second device was my girlfriends galaxy s 2. De ice has a problem with USB port. And it impossible to switch it off as seconds later it powers on again by itself.
Rang Samsung. Guy was great had my details from previous device just asked me to confirm it. Also we can't find right proof of purchase. Asked him if we can send copy of the phone contract that states when device was bought. Now here is the best answer I've heard in my life.
" if you can,send it. If you don't have anything it doesn't matter we'll still fix it for you.". w00t.
That call was made at 5pm Friday (post office collects last letters and packages etc at 5.30pm). Saturday 8am got an envelope . And also in the manual it states; do not send original packaging although please send the charger.
Outcome of that one will be unknown as need to send it on Monday.
So getting your phone without a box is probably your fault. Secondly I would ring them and tell them that you only wanted to fix the speaker and whatever else and jot the screen as in your opinion it works perfectly fine so its unnecessary repair job and additional cost to you. Check some consumer laws if they can do that as well just to have some background in the fight

Isn't the warranty for the play store nexus US-only? At least that's what I heard.
For all it's worth, I had very good experience with the Samsung service center here in Singapore with two locally purchased sets.

Thanks to those who replied. The missing box was the least of my issues...they asked that I send it in suitable packaging. I thought the original box would do. My real concerns are that they wouldn't fix my reported problem due to the alleged water damage to the working (and completely unrelated part), and further left me with a phone in worse shape (proximity sensor now non-functioning and the little red tabs from the non-properly sealed screen). I called today spoke to two people at the Samsung service center. Both listened, took notes into the system. Apparently because my original ticket was "cancelled" they lost most of the record of it. They suggested I contact an email for the "Office of the President" (providing the email). At least they were understanding and said that I had options. It was night and day compared to the original support rep that my issue was escalated to.
Will update again when I hear back from the Office of the President.
And yes, this was a Play Store Galaxy Nexus, so it does have a Samsung USA warranty.

They should certainly make it right to you. And don't believe that crap that they lost history of the original ticket. That is just some BS. If you don't hear from them soon call again and escalate to the manager and threaten to escalate even further. Remember that saying about squeaky wheel and good luck.

Quick update... I heard back from the "Office of the President" the morning hour I sent the email with the detailed background and request to fix the problems caused by the "cancelled repair" along with the original problem that I attempted to have fixed (headphone sensor). Said while they don't usually cover moisture damage they agreed to fix. Had a shipping label and all in less than 12 hours from my email. Got the phone back today...as good as new. They even fixed the scratched screen (which I wasn't expecting at all). In the end a happy customer and will buy Samsung again. Probably the situation worsened by the one bad apple support rep that refused to do anything but cancel my repair or take my repair without giving me an escalation route.
So if anyone experiences anything similar simply ask to escalate. They'll give you email for the office of the president where you can make your case.
Ok, my fault entirely. My Sony ZL went 4.5 years without me damaging it, with no case. My Pixel 2 ZL didn't make it 3 weeks.
It landed on the top right corner, and there is a small star there open in the center. Not terribly noticeable, but definitely an opening that would allow water in, and maybe over time it might spread and come apart.
I don't mind paying to get it fixed. UBREAKIFIX is the repair site for Google and says $79.
But they don't have parts.
The bigger deal is this: One said they had to do a complete teardown from the front to get to it, and complete reassembly. Another I called said it was simply the back glass, pop off, glue on a new one.
The latter makes me feel a lot more comfortable doing it; a complete teardown makes me worry the cure is worse than the disease, whether they really can get it together again and seal it well. I might be more tempted to try to seal just that star, rather than have them open up every seal and seam and (more than likely) have mine be the XL2 they have seen at that store.
Anyone know for sure?
Is the back glass replaceable without a complete teardown?
Good/bad experiences with ubreakifix (do they train their staff well? I realize it's a franchise so it's somewhat luck of the draw by store).

I have been fixing phones for a long time, this fix is extremely easy if you would have the part available, unfortunately, nor eBay or Amazon seem to have it.
@uicnren thanks, I had seen it, didn't help much as I only found the put-together and it started with a full teardown. @tatico28, thanks - does that mean the glass does come off by itself, without removing/releasing anything from the front? As I mentioned, I'm happy to have someone else do it, and pay for it, I just don't want to have a new phone look like a 3 year old playing with glue from an incompetent repair. I'm also game to do it myself if I had parts and instructions (I've done lots of electronic repairs, but generally ones that open with screwdriver, not pry bars).

My back glass broke Day 2 of owning it...waited two weeks for the part to arrive at ubreakifix. Just the glass was replaced for $79 in about 30-45 mins and good as new again with full Google warranty in place. I did check out a couple of ubreakifix locations nearby before I got it done...I would advise you do so as well since I did not get a good vibe from the first place when the person told me it will take 3-4 hours and he has to consult videos and manuals to do it...
The other Google authorized repair partner is puls.com but they said they do not repair the back glass yet.

For the least invasive process possible, try using an automotive windshield repair kit.

@stevemw, thanks, that's much better than the last one I looked at. So it appears that back glass is not just a piece of glass, but includes the covers for the camera and flash rather than just fitting around them?
Regardless, it does leave the impression the phone is generally built to be serviceable.

They claimed it would have no impact and it was still warrantied as they were authorized by google.

Not even a week and I cracked my backglass. I too am interested in the lens removal.
Is there any parts available that have this attached already? I've no problem doing it myself, just need as much info as possible.

I have not found any replacement lenses or back glass with lenses already installed.
Watching youtube videos I saw that old pixel 1 have only the flash lens and it was simply stuck in the back glass hole.
Just to laugh...
I wrote to official Google assistance here in Italy to have information about the back glass replacement.
The answer was: 232Euro + VAT (about 280Euro) to repair the phone and 20/25 days to wait...
But, the most amazing thing is that the price of the only examination (in the case i don't want to repair) is 77Euro + VAT ( about 92Euro).

Mine was broken as well, however, my whole phone was broken, so I had the back casing, back glass and camera lens, and screen all replaced.
What I can tell you is that the camera lens is a part of the back glass assembly. Ubreakifix can replace it. I think it's around $100. Note that this is the only part that they didn't have in stock for my repair (no store within 50 miles had the back glass, despite all of them having the metal casing and front screen), so your local store may need to put in an order.

For my 2XL, I was able to remove the glass shards and glue using a hairdryer, it seemed to be the same exact process as it is for other phones (I've done this with the Galaxy S6). Ubreakifix does fix it though, but a $100 is way too pricey for a simple glass replacement IMO.
I have a dbrand skin on my device, so I can't check if the entire back glass is broken or not. It doesn't sound or feel like it is broken though. I can't see why it would be broken since I have a case on my phone. From what you know, does the camera lens breaking mean that the entire glass is broken?!
Unfortunately I don't have a Ubreakitifix remotely near me. I'll continue to look for solutions though.

Broken lens definitely doesn't mean the back glass is broken. I took the glass out of mine and took great photos with the lensless camera until I had it fixed (my CC company paid the repair).
Not sure any options for repairing outside of Ubreakifix (or Google's other repair partner who I can't remember) or getting it done by sending it in to Google. Don't think parts are widely available online yet.

Yep parts aren't available online yet :/ But your comment gave me the idea to check up on my credit card and see if they'll pay for it since I've only had the phone for like a month. I'll be driving close to a Ubreakifix location soon anyways, so I think that's the best course of action. Hopefully this means I can keep my waterproofing on my phone which would be lost with a DIY repair.

My Pixel 2 xl was in a case 100% of the time and my camera cover also shattered for no reason that I know of. It seems like they may have a problem with this. I do know around the time frame it shattered was when I was going from 70 degree room to -15 deg for a while snowblowing, then back in the house. There was nothing in my outer pocket that could of caused the shatter. I've seen too many other posts about the camera cover cracking by itself and not the entire glass back cover.
I don't know if it is or not, but the camera cover should be made out of the same glass on the front of the phone. Camera still works but it's loose inside after removing the small shards and sometimes I get jello like wave wobble while trying to focus. I'm going to wait and see if more people report this before I send it in to fix it which was quoted by ubreakifix local sioux falls store minimum of $130 and up to $220 if they can't reuse the LCD screen after taking it off. They said they have to remove the front screen to get to the back to replace the camera and cover.
I am having the same issue. I bought a supposedly really good cover for it through Spigen and the lens on the back camera somehow shattered (haven't dropped it and have no idea how it broke). The back glass isnt broken at all, just the lens glass. Surely this must be a google issue. I contacted Google and they gave me some phone number and I rang and left a message days ago and was a weird answering machine and no one has called me back. Prettty dissapointed with the Google Pixel 2xl and wishing I had of got another Samsung. (I am in Australia)

The lens section of the back is broken... I can still luckily use it perfectly AFTER 2-3 months? There were extreme temperatures though so.
I just chatted with google and they told me to get it replaced with their repair dealers......

My camera lens broke this week as well. Always keep the phone in a case and have not had any drops. At least on mine it's not large - its just the faintest hairline crack that runs halfway across the lens. Not at all like the break pattern I would expect to see if something hit it.
Luckily I have Fi device protection on this phone, but even with that I will have to temporarily shoulder the cost of the replacement device until they receive my current phone. So... just gonna live with it for the time being until next payday rolls around. :/

I also had mine break within the first week that I got it--- I NEVER dropped it. Google nor Verizon would do anything. Just paid $200 for a replacement device but I do not want to start it up without having a way to protect this delicate glass. What can I do to protect this? Called Google to ask about protecting it and all they recommend is buying the Google case, WHICH I ALREADY HAD. Thinking about buying a liquid screen protector and applying that to the lens, thoughts on this?
I have a Google pixel XL 2 from Verizon. Have total mobile protection through asurion. I use my camera frequently never had issues. Ironically on my daughters birthday the other day I went to take pictures of her opening gifts and noticed a line. Turn phone around. Low and behold my camera glass lens is broke. I removed Glass and tried to continue to take pictures and as another poster stated the lens was loose and didn't properly focus so pictures weren't at sharp. I called asurion to file claim they said they would send a replacement as soon as tomorrow for a $200 deductable. I explained it was only glass covering back camera lens didn't seem to deem a $200 deductable it's not a broken screen. They said they didn't offer repair only replacement hence the high deductible. My lens broke from what I don't know. No blemishes on phone. Never dropped it. Had a Spigen rough armor from day one that has bumper around camera. And don't put it in any compromising position. Upon research and wide spread accounts of spontaneous broken back lens with no idea how it happened I felt maybe Google would fix it for free. Contacted customer service and was told to contact ubreakifix which I did there's one not to far from me. They said it would be $110 to replace back camera. Not as much as insurance deductible but still pricey for what I believe to be a hardware defect of LG/Google themselves as opposed to the fault of owner.

I seen that but it doesn't seem to offer just glass covering camera on the part supplier links he provides just the back glass panel and the entire camera itself. I don't think the camera is damaged just the glass and it was only glued in. I found one dirt cheap but it claimed to only fit only. the smaller pixel 2 and not the XL variant which I thought they had the same camera?
My screen started to delaminate from the protective layer in the hinge area. Literally while I was talking to Motorola, I dropped the damn thing and shattered the back glass, which pretty much eliminated the possibility of getting the screen fixed under warranty as I'd already been having to argue with them about whether the screen issue was caused by "physical damage" (I'm not terribly impressed with the warranty support for such an expensive phone, fwiw).
Anyway, since they wanted 900 to repair it, and I only paid 800 on sale, I just ordered a screen and new back glass from Mobile Defenders.
Unfortunately, while taking it apart, I moved a little too fast and managed to crack the front glass pretty good too, and that doesn't seem to be available from Mobile Defenders, but you can get the glass on eBay for about $50.
In looking at the front glass, it isn't obvious how I'd remove the exterior screen from it in order to move it to a new piece of glass - has anyone performed this repair?
My first incident, I broke the rear "glass" battery door housing (yeah, real smart, make a phone out of ceramic like glass) and managed to find an OEM replacement. It was super easy to change, and I had some mobile phone adhesive glue (for repairing LED screens on handsets) because the seller forgot to include the adhesive stickers.
I mailed my phone to Motorola, and they received it Monday May 2nd for two issues... I had two pixels go bad (they stay lit white all the time) and making calls, the person (hence, the TX from my Razr) could not hear me (I sounded like the first gen digital phones with bad reception, robotic aqua underwater warble) rendering the phone useless to use.
Motorola states 5 to 7 day turnaround. They received my phone and have not even started to work on it.
Motorola screwed me...
I love how technical services can void themselves of all obligations and use the "liquid damage" card.
I live in the North, it's cold. Everybody should be made aware that if you live in a cold environment and you go from a warm environment (using your phone indoors, or charging your phone while driving) and going outside, you are exposing your handset to cold. If condensation is liquid damage, then I do not know of any electronic device that you can use in the winter that would be exempt from possible condensation.
I had this discussion with Apple in the past, and they overturned there decision on a laptop and repaired it under warranty being aware that this is a possibility and that it may trigger the water stickers that phone manufactures place inside handsets.
I understood when I purchased my device that the Razr 5g is on the forefront of design and technology. I get it that the rear housing that is made of ceramic can crack if dropped. I know that the foldable screen is subject to many problems, like delamination, pixels going bad etc.. But considering all this, the service offered by Motorola and there lack of customer service (I have called many times, getting line disconnections (their phone system sucks), speaking with third party call center representatives who are clueless, being "not listened too" and replied with generic off topic replies... I don't see how they can offer flagship devices and expect the Diehards (when Motorola was an American Cell Phone Company and Communications Powerhouse) to buy in to the next generation flip.
Incredibly disappointed. I'm going with my plan B. Screw U Moto!
I did manage to figure out the disassembly process, but the replacement interior screen I received ended up being defective - the image worked, but it did not detect touch. I reinstalled the old messed up screen, and although it was half whited out from the damage by this point, it could detect touch, so I know the issue was the replacement screen.
Mobile Defenders were kind enough to fully refund me on the price of the replacement screen, at which point I noticed that complete, working Razr 5G phones could be had used for $200 - half what I paid for the replacement screen. Between that and Moto's crummy support and warranty policies, the garbage camera on the phone, and the fact that I hadn't had a security patch or software update since getting the phone and was still stuck on Android 11, I just gave up and got a Pixel 6 Pro.
It's huge, and I hate how huge it is, but it works, it gets updated, and it can stand up to daily use.
I will very likely never buy another Moto device - even trying this one was an experiment.
