hi folks,
has someone an idea what could be with my galaxy nexus?
its 3 years old now,i had resurrection remix rom runnin with bsmittys kernel and it was wonderfull smooth.
last week.when i turned the screen on, the screen was flickering and there were stripes on it and it was unresponsive.
so i pulled the battery, since then the phone seems to be dead
if u press any button, nothing happens.if u charge it nothing happens, phone is dead
so my question, what could be destroyed?i want to buy a broken nexus and take the spare parts if i would know whats going on...
thx in advance
It might be a hard brick or a battery problem. My Nexus often just closed by itself or just suddenly, balck stripes on withe background appeared and the phone just closed itself. I replaced the battery and now the phone works perfectly.

My vzw galaxy nexus keeps turning the screen back on as soon as I turn it off, killing my battery at an average of an hr, at most 2... Downloaded an app that tells u which apps are turning the screen on (wakelock) and it says none... App also tells how long phone has been awake vs asleep... Phone been awake for about 95% of the time... Please help... Phone almost unusable unless connected to charger... Oh, btw... As soon as I plug it in to the charger the problem disappears...

I have recently come upon the same problem. Its from a galaxy nexus also from Verizon running 4.2.2 I recently got this gnex as a replacement from a lost gnex. Either refurbished or new the problem starts after I disconnect charger. Have you found any solution?
Sounds like a problem with your USB port.

Have you tried wakelock detector app? Helped me resolve the same issue..

Yes I tried wake clock but it didn't help. Strangely it happens randomly. I took out the battery for 10 secs put it back in and is working properly. I will wait a while and post back tomorrow morning.

If you've used the app, you should know there's hardly anything random about it. When a particular wakelock has exceptionally high usage, Google about it (can be done from within the app) and get some insight into what is triggering it. Then you can disable/suspend that app/service.

I had that happen on a custom kernel once. Flashed a different one and it was fixed....Doesn't seem like it'll help you though

I had that problem. Try to move that little thing in charging port with something thin, needle or knife. Thats how I solved it few months ago and since then I haven't had any issue. Hope this will help

Problem is no longer there. Just stopped doing it. ??????
My dose it when I'm at 100% battery after it drops below 90% stops doing that

Mine was having the same problem, but I followed the advice of an earlier post by Godra and it has stopped turning on automatically. Basically, I used my pocket knife to clean out under the pins in the micro USB charging port. I also bent it up just a little bit (be very careful not to break it) to keep it away from the metal housing, which is a ground. Something must have been shorting one of the pins to ground (the housing) causing it to continuously wake.

solved
Prying or cleaning the USB connector did not help in my case. Battery charge indicator sometimes stayed on, but sometimes not. Battery drained really fast.
I bought a charging flex connector board replacement (they are really cheap on ebay), watched some youtube videos explaining the how to change the board and when my new board arrived, my phone was fixed in under 15 minutes.
My gnex now holds charge for over 24 hours with moderate use.
With Jelly Bean 4.3 installed and a new charging port, it feels like a brand new phone!

Hi,
I have developed an open-souce (GPLv3) app that helps save battery when this happens.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2484871
SnooZy Charger turns off the screen on these ghost connections, saving battery consumption by the display. It does not fix the charging issues, but it reduces the battery drain when this happens.

ps: sorry if this is considered as self promotion or xposting but this issue has been reported on multiple threads..
Hi, i had the same problemen as you all, but i solved the problem by remove all the dust from the input of the charger connection from the phone. I think that the dust was maken some kind of shortwire and that that was the reason for it to turn on the screen, after i cleaned all the dust from the charger point in the phone, my problem seems to be solved. Can some one else confirm this?

I happen exactly that, how could you fix it?
Had the same Galaxy Nexus problem with the display switching on sporadically or turning back on seconds after the phone was manually switched off. The display was the number one consumer of energy due to energy statistics even without using the phone. Bluetooth, GPS were disabled and no special apps were running on the phone.
Hint:
The battery statistics graph's detail view logged charging events although the phone was not connected to a USB charger/port. The display was logged as active parallel to these events. So basically the phone thought it was connected to a charger and switched on the display which it normally also does, but since this charging status was repeating over and over, the display wouldn't turn off by itself.
Yesterday, I examined the USB port with a magnifying glass in bright light and noticed quite some fuzz build-up in the port. Otherwise the port looked good and not oxidized or damaged. So I removed the battery and cleaned off the fuzz from the micro USB port. I used a thin thread to loosen the felt-like lint which took me quite some time. Vacuum cleaner didn't work well. Compressed air might be helpful.
What shall I say: The phone charged very well and behaved normal the whole day without any unusual drain and NO pseudo charging events in the battery statistics!
Should this success not persist, I will report ...

hi there! a week ago I bought my note 2 an it was perfect! but last Wednesday I took it from the table to answer a whatsapp and just after I unlock it, the screen turned black... I thought it was a. sudden restart...but no! notification light was blinking and when I pressed the power button soft keys turned on and off like normally does...I took off battery but nothing... the touch function was fine because I could hear lockscreen sounds... after long hours the screen came back, first with a yellowish tint all over, then normal and then after few hours black again... I send it for warranty repair but Ijust wanted to know if someone else has have such problem?? thanks in advance and sorry for bad English!!
My brother faced the same problem with his Galaxy S3 because he dropped the phone on a hard floor. The screen went black and didn't come on.So he took it to service center. The service center guy said it was due to screen's connection dislodging from the motherboard and repaired it for free.
thanks!!! well at least your brother's dropped... mine didn't...I hope mine could be that easy to fix!!!
I hope the same for you bro

I have a rooted Note 2 with DN3 V5.2 Rom, suddenly while using what's app the screen went blank all of a sudden. The screen is still responsive to touch however the display is not coming up. Any idea what the issue might be??
Has your nexus gone bad? Suffered from a damaged speaker, fried CPU, broken screen or similar? Here's the thread to share your exprerience.
Personally I bought my Nexus, brand new on September/October 2012. Sometime on August 2013 a got caught up in an endless bootloop, even odin or similar tricks couldn't save the day so took it to the repair centre (Smartec Greece) and had it back after 4-5 hours with a new motherboard. Pretty fast- problem solved, didn't have to pay something, even though I never got to know which part actually gone bad.
That's about it. I also have replaced stock battery with a new one as the old one was draining faster than the speed of light, no matter what rom I was on.
So let me hear ya!!!!
The goddamn USB port issue, couldn't charge my phone, until I poked that little bugger in there to rise it up a little, created such a hassle

You were lucky, after a year and a half of use my USB finally took a sh*t completely. Luckily the insurance I use has no deductable so I had to fire up my old Incredible 2 for a few days while I waited for a replacement. I'm so glad we have nandroid. All I had to do is unlock the bootloader on my new device, put TWRP back on and restore my nandroid. No hassle really.
WOW!

The same happened to me but I let the battery drain and then charge it for a bit to eneter recovery mode to restore from a back up. Why didnt you do that? I think your problem wasnt just a bootloop problem.
Powerbutton becoming faulty.
Sometimes worked sometimes didnt
Trashed my charge port one morning getting out of bed with a bad hangover..Forgot my phone was plugged and snapped the port right off :crying: I just bought a new charge port flex from ebay for $10 and replaced it myself in about 20 mins

Last year my Nexus dropped into the sea, but luckily survived
My Nexus's battery was damaged so from phone service I got a new one in 2012.
Then My Galaxy Nexus got a screen burn-in ("ghost image") and in the phone service they changed a screen, but my Nexus got that screen burn-in again..
Everything have worked so fine and I never used any other kernels on my Nexus, than the stock ones by Google and CM's kernel and ofc. my modified CM kernel., I have tried some custom kernels, but I never liked any custom kernel. My Nexus has scratches on its cases but screen has always been clean and good. :3
I'm really happy, that my Nexus looks like a new one, but only that screen burn in is annoying
I am on handset number five; one blown earpiece, two cracked screens and the last one had the interface between the digitizer and the motherboard come loose. I was able to wedge some paper between the battery door and phone body to make it work until the replacement came in. Thankfully I got the phone when beat buy had them for free and ponied up for the service plan.

Have mine for 2 years... only problem is an oled burn where the notification bar clock is... the green and red oleds have less brightens on lower brightenes levels... apart from that everything ok.

I'm past the 1.5 year mark with my gnex and the only issue I have so far happened when it fell from my recliner while connected to the charger. The micro-usb metal piece on the cable got bent from the impact and since then I get a weird buzz/rattle when the phone vibrates. Had to reduce the vibrator strength on fancy kernel to get rid of that specific annoyance.
This has been the case for about 8 months now and the phone is still charging fine. Why I don't know is if this is a symptom that will eventually lead to the dreaded no-charging issue that some have shared here.
Had to change whole charging strip. Gnex was showing frequent charging/discharging and battery would drain within an hour!

1.5 year old phone. Volume-up button doesn't work, and hasn't for some time. To increase volume, I have to press volume down and then move the slider up on-screen. No big deal. Also had the USB port break a couple of months ago and had to get it changed. Otherwise it runs fine. Still on stock 4.2 ROM, I keep the GPS switched off most the time, and also have all the lower-level Google sync stuff disabled (screw Google), and battery typically lasts a day and a half of average usage.
Had the Galaxy Nexus since release day and it served me well. It was fast and I only went through a few. Last October I got my Note 3 so I retired my G'Nex, but now I'm going to be using it as a MP3 Player that I can just leave in my car vs using my Phone all the time. Just looking for a Rom that turns it into the Android version of an IPOD touch.
Hi all,
I bought my Note 10.1 (Edition 2014) during a trip to new york (great price) & i brough it back to France.
2 months after my return, i drop the tablet from a chair (about 10 cm high) & the screen begun to turn black.
After a few minutes, the screen was completly black
There is absolutly no scratch on the screen so i tried to plug it directly to my tv through usb/hdmi convertor.
Once plugged, everything is working fine on the tv (the tablet screen is still black), the touch screen is working on the tablet, sounds too.
I check the samsung warrantly & it's not applicable in France for product bought outside Europe
I didn't find any website selling LCD screen (only touch screen but i think it's not the problem).
Do you have any ideas how to save my tablet ?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Julien

@kouller if you call up Samsung they may allow you to post it to the US to get it repaired.
If you tell them it fell even though it probs had an underlying issue anyways they will not fix it.

My tablet also went completely dark
The screen and digiziter are fine, can hear the startup-sound and feedback from the touch..
So now im sending it in for repairs..
Got my note back from the repair company today..
And guess what, they didn't find any thing wrong with it!!
I could not powered it off before shipping, so I think the solution was to drain the battery completely...
Hey!
So I have a GSM variant of Galaxy Nexus. The problem is that my Galaxy Nexus charges by itself a second between every five seconds when a charger isn't connected.
This problem started yesterday and this is really annoying. Yesterday I did open my Galaxy Nexus to see if any hardware is damaged but everything seemed to be fine and battery is also fine. After reassembling my Nexus, it worked fine without this charging problem until now... Now the same thing happens again...
Does anyone know where is the problem?
Is this problem caused by a USB connector flex or a battery? The system (my own built Android KitKat 4.4.4) isn't causing this. So this must be an hardware issue..

I've seen this problem mentioned many times in regard to the gnex. It actually happened with my girls toro version. The metal tab inside the charging port gets bent down, causing a short. So phone randomly says its charging when not even plugged in. I simply pried that tab back up to its normal position, and the issue was resolved. Good luck.

That may be the problem.. As my micro USB cable is a bit broken too. I try that tip. Anyways I'm going to buy a new USB port flex as the current one is worn.
That charging problem seems to be gone, but now my Nexus is showing that I'm in Riga, Latvia but actually I am far away from Riga, I'm in Estonia... Being outside and searching for GPS, I get the correct location but later again my location is wrong. And this has never happened before for me... Maybe my nexus is getting old.
