Hi, some ideas about how to root m8s 1.03.401.11, no way to do it with the latest twrp, philz, multirom... no way, there is something different from classic m8? thx
M8S Root/Recovery
Yep.
Got an M8s. Bootloader unlocked, but no recoveries available.
Stupidly didn't back up stock recovery, so now I have none! Would like to do a factory reset after playing, so if anyone has an M8S with stock recovery, could you possibly make a copy available please?
Need TWRP or CWM to at least be able to root.

Hello there!
I know there are many threads and questions about unrooting, but I haven't found anything useful to me (or I just don't understand them) and also I'm new to the whole root/unroot thing.
Here is the story. I rooted my device via TWRP Recovery. Then I tried to get S-OFF using Firewater. When I wasted like a few days trying to get this done I discovered that my device is "Patched by HTC" so I cannot use Firewater anymore to get this S-OFF.
The whole thing was to convert my M8 into a GPE version. Now I'm trying to revert my phone back to stock ver. because I have no need in root.
So is it possible to unroot my phone?
My CID is HTC_622
Software number is 1.60.708.2
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply.
I wish there was more detail in your post: like what software should I use to flash stock?
Should I download some rom for that?
As I said, I'm really new to the whole thing.
1. Flash your backup in TWRP
2. Once restored and confirmed working, flash the stock recovery image for your software version in fastboot the same way you flashed TWRP (fastboot flash recovery <nameofrecovery>.img

Hey I've been googling for hours for this too.I know this is an old post.
I am one of the unfortunate people do get a 1.60 up
Update on CID HTC__622
I have surfed the page with the list of nandroids, however there is no stock recovery that begins with 1.60. From other research it states that the first two numbers are the most important whilst flashing recoveries.
Any information would be really helpful
Thanks
so i accidentally flashed a recovery img for a boot img and now it will only boot into recovery mode and will not work properly and has the label tampered. sorry for grammar as well. if there is a thread for this can i please get a link. the only thing i can do is get to bootloader its unlocked but s-on is on. is that a problem?
Just fastboot flash a boot.img
You can use the custom boot.img, there are many version in Original Android Development thread.
Is yours a Verizon device ? Then look in Verizon thread.

Literally just flash a kernel onto the device. Just like ckpv5 said it's not that complicated.
Find a new kernel and either flash it with twrp if its a zip or just fastboot.

well i managed to get a sense rom but trying to revert to complete stock :silly:
If you want to "appear" 100% stuck and untouched you have to have S-OFF. Which with that you can reset the bootloaders "tampered" flash to LOCKED. Then just run a T-Mobile RUU. The only thing that will different from a store bought model is that your bootloader will say S-OFF. But its expected even though hard to get that devices fresh out the package will have S-OFF shortly after a release.
Hi All
Ive soft bricked my M8. I have an unlocked bootloader through HTCDev but Im still S-ON, I can boot into Bootloader, HBoot and even flash TWRP or back to stock recovery, but my M8 wont boot past the ONE Logo.
I tried to unroot SuperSU and have corrupted it, so from what Ive read I need to Side-load a rom through TWRP.
Does anyone have the 4.20.206.1 (LP 501 O2-UK) for Red CID: O2_001 that I would use to Sideload it..
Many thanks and any advice would be great

SIM unlock doesn't matter. It will survive a custom ROM flash.
Unlocked bootloader is not only okay, its mandatory to flash custom recovery and a custom ROM.
S-on is fine. Any Lollipop ROM will do, since you are already on LP firmware. You only need s-off to flash firmware manually, flash radio, hboot, etc.

I haven't really been following closely. But AFAIK, you can't flash Windows Phone onto our device yet.

Thanks for the tip.. ill stick to LP based roms only. Yeah, shame about Windows Phone. Might give the GPE roms a go .
Any further tips would be appreciated
I had rooted htc one m8 with twrp. To be able to install OTA update I have flashed 4.20.531.4. It successfully loaded so I started update. However after reboot it did not go further than htc one sign on white screen. After that I tried following actions without any progress: flash twrp back, delete supersu, factory reset from both stock image and twrp, install previous builds. I can get to bootloader, but my pc does not see it throw windows explorer nor from htc sync manger. I'm stock and don't know what else can I do. Did I actually bricked my phone?

If the screen still comes on, no.
Did you install stock recovery before trying to OTA?
Yes I have installed stocked recovery from t mobile. I changed my cid to super cid. Could that course me a problem? And is there a possibility for me to use nandroid recovery?

Make sure its the stock recovery corresponding to 4.20.531.4

Some folks have said SuperCID interferes with OTA; others contradict this. So I'm not sure.

Do you mean restore a nandroid backup?
Yes, but it sounds like you already restored a stock 4.20.531.4 ROM, so I don't see how a nandroid backup would make a difference.
Are you trying to issue fastboot commands while in bootloader-fastboot mode? And no response?
Hello Guys,
Today I decided to install CyanogenMod 13 on my HTC One M8. Here is what I did:
- Unlocked the bootloader;
- Flashed TWRP Recovery;
- In recovery, I wiped everything I could;
- Installed CM13 and Gapps.
Now, the phone works good, but in case I want to go back to stock, what should I do? I still have S-ON.
Thanks for the help!
(also, info about where to download the stock ROM is welcome)
You should have made a nandroid backup right after flashing TWRP.
Oh and there are 2 threads with backups. 1 here in the Q&A and 1 in the general. Can't be missed !

So, I didn't do the backup. But my question is: is it possible to install stock ROM now?
Everyone says I have to use S-OFF to be able to install Stock again. Why is that?

Because they are incorrect.
You can go back to stock by flashing a stock TWRP backup and stock recovery, but you can't set the flag to "locked" from "unlocked" without S-Off. You can only set it to "relocked".
But you can go back to the stock ROM and recovery easily.

I don't need to make exactly like before. All I need to know is if there is a way back to stock, and custom ROMs after that.
I'm not sure if this is correct, but some people said I can't install custom ROMs with S-ON and I can't make it S-OFF without stock ROM because SunShine requires it. That's it. Thanks for help!

You don't need S-Off to install custom ROMs. You do need it to convert to GPE, if that's what you mean. The M8 and M8 GPe are different models with different partition locations and sizes.
You do need to be on a stock or close to stock ROM to gain S-Off.
ViperOneM8 works, and has been suggested by the developers of Sunshine S-Off.
MaximusHD is also known to work, and is what I usually suggest even though I work with Team Venom.
It's always worked because it is very near stock.
I imagine that it works with ViperOneM8 on a fresh install, before flashing the modifications that are available, or going through the Tweaks.

Great info, thanks a lot.
Any idea if Android Revolution HD by Mike will do?
Anyway, if the Official CM recovery will be able to install CM13+ updates when they release them, I am totally fine with how the phone is right now.
