so i accidentally flashed a recovery img for a boot img and now it will only boot into recovery mode and will not work properly and has the label tampered. sorry for grammar as well. if there is a thread for this can i please get a link. the only thing i can do is get to bootloader its unlocked but s-on is on. is that a problem?
Just fastboot flash a boot.img
You can use the custom boot.img, there are many version in Original Android Development thread.
Is yours a Verizon device ? Then look in Verizon thread.

Literally just flash a kernel onto the device. Just like ckpv5 said it's not that complicated.
Find a new kernel and either flash it with twrp if its a zip or just fastboot.

well i managed to get a sense rom but trying to revert to complete stock :silly:
If you want to "appear" 100% stuck and untouched you have to have S-OFF. Which with that you can reset the bootloaders "tampered" flash to LOCKED. Then just run a T-Mobile RUU. The only thing that will different from a store bought model is that your bootloader will say S-OFF. But its expected even though hard to get that devices fresh out the package will have S-OFF shortly after a release.

Hello there!
I know there are many threads and questions about unrooting, but I haven't found anything useful to me (or I just don't understand them) and also I'm new to the whole root/unroot thing.
Here is the story. I rooted my device via TWRP Recovery. Then I tried to get S-OFF using Firewater. When I wasted like a few days trying to get this done I discovered that my device is "Patched by HTC" so I cannot use Firewater anymore to get this S-OFF.
The whole thing was to convert my M8 into a GPE version. Now I'm trying to revert my phone back to stock ver. because I have no need in root.
So is it possible to unroot my phone?
My CID is HTC_622
Software number is 1.60.708.2
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply.
I wish there was more detail in your post: like what software should I use to flash stock?
Should I download some rom for that?
As I said, I'm really new to the whole thing.
1. Flash your backup in TWRP
2. Once restored and confirmed working, flash the stock recovery image for your software version in fastboot the same way you flashed TWRP (fastboot flash recovery <nameofrecovery>.img

Hey I've been googling for hours for this too.I know this is an old post.
I am one of the unfortunate people do get a 1.60 up
Update on CID HTC__622
I have surfed the page with the list of nandroids, however there is no stock recovery that begins with 1.60. From other research it states that the first two numbers are the most important whilst flashing recoveries.
Any information would be really helpful
Thanks
Hi,
I did a few searches but didn't find a solution.I have a developer M8 rooted and S-off. It's running 4.4.2. How do I go about installing the 4.4.3 OTA HTC apdate? Would I loose root and S-off in the process? Do I need to go back to stock to apply this update or do I need to take the update at all. I'm looking to flash the latest Viper rom and just wanted to check before I do. Sorry if this question was ask before.
When your target is to flash a custom ROM based on 4.4.3; you don't really need all those going back to stock and apply OTA stuff
What you need is flash the 4.4.3 firmware of device version then install ROM ... that's all

First make sure you do have the developer M8 as I find many said the same thing but in actual fact they are not.
If yes ... I have the untouched 2.22.1540.4_firmware.zip here : http://sourceforge.net/projects/htconem8/files/2.22.1540.4_firmware.zip/download
then follow either this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/vomerguides-m8-bootldr-unlock-s-off-t2800727
or this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/firmware-flashing-panic-attacks-t2824048
on how to flash the firmware zip
As the firmware is untouched, it will restore the stock recovery to your device.
So after successfully flashed the firmware, you should flash the custom recovery of your choice again in order to flash the intended custom ROM.
I'm gathering from the OP's location and past devices, that AT&T is the carrier.
If so, I would recommend flashing the 2.23.502.3 posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/development/att-4-4-3-2-22-1540-3-debloated-sense-6-t2837365
This contains the latest AT&T firmware (including newest AT&T radio). Then flash whatever 4.4.3 custom ROM you want.
On the 2.22.1540 firmware, I was getting some random data drops on AT&T. After flashing the 2.23.502 firmware, everything is working perfectly for me.
EDIT: My bad, I somehow completely missed the critical point that the OP has the Dev Edition. ckpv5 is correct for the Dev Edition, 1540 firmware is what you want (the firmware released with the latest Dev Edition OTA).
That's why I said that he need to confirm whether he really has developer edition M8.
If it is At&T .. I will not recommend the Dev Edition firmware (in fact I will not get involve as I don't know much about At&T device)

Appreciated your help here. I can confirm the phone came with a unlock bootloader and my CID number is BS_US002. Does this mean I got the developer version of the M8?
If so, do I just follow the guide you post above, and do I need to change my CID to the super 11111111?

BS_US002 is Dev Ed.
There is no need to change to SuperCID when flashing the firmware meant for your device version; no CID and MID change is needed.

This part below, my phone freezes on the HTC logo. Do I repeat the entire step from beginning when it freezes or that specific command it freezes on? See below.
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Note: if this command freezes, just disconnect the USB cable and hold the power and volume down buttons until the device reboots.
Then, repeat the steps above again.

Major thanks to you sir. I use the second guide you provide above after multiple fail with adb and all seems to be working fine. So if I understand you correctly, as long as I flash the latest firmware which I now have and regain recovery, there is no need to take the OTA from HTC to move from 4.4.2 to 4.4.3? So I can now flash roms base on 4.4.3 like Viper?
Yes...now you can flash 4.4.3 Sense based ROM like viper.
If you ever need the stock ROM, just follow the Stock Backup link in my sig.

Incorrect. This is the method that you use if you are not S-Off.
If you were S-Off, you would just update firmware manually, with no need to go back to stock.

I would suggest asking if anyone has a link to one in that thread.
I'm on Telus too, but I am running WWE firmware. I ALWAYS have the new firmware before Telus. Just sayin.
S-Off is a good thing to have. I know it seems like $25 is a lot to pay to get it, but if you think of all the hassle it saves trying to update firmware, and the other freedom it gives you (I'm using the Sprint Harman/Kardon version's audio files and ADSP) it is very reasonably priced.

Use 3.34.661.4 backup for 4.4.4 but wifi will not work on your device yet because you have hboot 3.18.0000
Find the 2.23.661.2 -> 3.34.661.4 - thanks @shaboobla on this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
Extract out firmware.zip from that OTA zip (with 7-zip)
then you can flash this firmware in RUU mode (but you need to relock bootloader because your device is S-On)
Later .. you can check software update and accept OTA to 4.20.661.2

Sorry for reviving such an old thread, but I'm trying to get my htc one m8 up and running again. It was functioning on lineage os but wasn't very stable, couldn't find any other roms that would successfully flash on it, I decided to try and go back to stock after a few beers one night night, now the phone has been sitting in a drawer with no os or recovery on it. There doesn't seem to be any still functioning links to any Canadian RUU's that I can use. I'm not s-off, bootloader is "relocked". I'd like to go back to stock marshmallow because I only use this thing to play music and as a tv remote. I'm hoping someone might have an old RUU lying around.
I guess if not my best option is just to unlock the bootloader again and try flashing the same lineage os again. Since I relocked does that mean I have to go through the htc website to get the unlock token again like I did ages ago? They probably don't even have this phone on there anymore. Hopefully I didn't actually turn this thing into a brick.
Please see my comments in red font below:

If you can be more specific about which ROMs you tried (plus info about your device from getvar as noted above), then we might be able to advise why they did not flash. Did you get error messages, and if so, what exactly were they?
I decided to try and go back to stock after a few beers one night night, now the phone has been sitting in a drawer with no os or recovery on it.
What exactly did you do (step by step, with any relevant file names, etc. - more detail is better).
I presume you intentionally relocked the bootloader in attempt to run some RUU. But would like clarification on this (and where that happened in the sequence of events)

Far as I know, Canadian versions don't have RUU.

One option (maybe the best one) is to restore a stock TWRP back from the collection: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
You will need to unlock the bootloader to do this. You can either reuse the unlock bin code you used originally (if you still have it). Otherwise, you should be able to request a new bin code from HTCDev.com. Far as I know, that still works for this phone.

Hi All
Ive soft bricked my M8. I have an unlocked bootloader through HTCDev but Im still S-ON, I can boot into Bootloader, HBoot and even flash TWRP or back to stock recovery, but my M8 wont boot past the ONE Logo.
I tried to unroot SuperSU and have corrupted it, so from what Ive read I need to Side-load a rom through TWRP.
Does anyone have the 4.20.206.1 (LP 501 O2-UK) for Red CID: O2_001 that I would use to Sideload it..
Many thanks and any advice would be great

SIM unlock doesn't matter. It will survive a custom ROM flash.
Unlocked bootloader is not only okay, its mandatory to flash custom recovery and a custom ROM.
S-on is fine. Any Lollipop ROM will do, since you are already on LP firmware. You only need s-off to flash firmware manually, flash radio, hboot, etc.

my device is s-off, bootloader unlocked.
As i understand process, for me it should be like that.
Stock htc rom 5.0.1, flash original recovery with adb. and get OTA updates?
If it like that, can someone share i link for stock lollipop rom, the one i can flash from twrp?
and stock recovery from this version of rom?
All link seems dead that i found here in guides.
And also In some guides they say i need to lock bootloader to succesfully update firmware part when i upgrade from 5.x.x to 6.x.x is it true?
Post fastboot getvar all result (without serial & imei no.) to see your current firmware.
If it is GSM you can find stock backup here :

Or maybe a RUU is available.
No.. you don't need to relock bootloader (especially for S-Off device)
was bored and found old 4.2.2 zip.
then reflashed recovery from that zip. OTA didnt worked so i downloaded RUU_M8_UL_M60_SENSE70_MR_BrightstarUS_WWE_6.12.1540.4.exe from HTC site.
It did not flashed, different errors. Then i downloaded RUU_M8_UL_L50_SENSE60_MR_HTC_Europe_4.16.401.10_Radio_1.25.214500021.06G_20.68.4196t.01_F_release_417003_signed
it flashed correctly. And tryed again with that ruu m60, stuck at eror 155, to i made fastboot oem relock. and all was fine after that.

You need to have the MID/CID for the US Developer's Edition to flash this. I wish folks would stop to determine what specific RUU to flash, instead of constantly trying this one. Just because the description on HTC's RUU websits says "Unlocked" does not mean it will work for any SIM unlocked M8. It also says "Develops" and you certainly don't have that version.
