T800 kernel issue - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all.
I've just got a t800. Successfully rooted and installed TWRP. Big thanks to all the work put in by the devs that provided info and files for this to work.
I was looking for a decent lollipop ROM and accidentally downloaded and flashed the iron man kernel rather than the ROM (I was tired!). Since then, it just hangs on the galaxy s logo. I can still reboot to recovery and download modes. Flashed a few ROMs, non of which have worked, except Bliss pop. I'd like to flash a ROM with the usual Google stuff on it. I flashed thunder ROM 800 which installed successfully, but on reboot, hangs after the Samsung animation plays. I tried flashing a different kernel -Stock_SM-T800_WIFI_T800XXU1ANJ6_kernel.zip - but am still having the same problem. Luckily I backed up the Bliss pop install, but nothing else before that (I know!). I guess I need to flash the original kernel but can't find it anywhere. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

You'll find the stock kernel for the T800 Lollipop (I assume you had Lollipop on your TAB) here, at the very bottom of the OP.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/development/prerooted-stock-touchwiz-rom-t2973107
If you started out with KITKat and flashed a Lollipop ROM without first flashing the Lollipop factory image to get the Lollipop bootloader, that could be the source of your problems. However, if you already had stock Lollipop on your TAB, you should be fine.

Hi Hookmt. Thanks for your speedy response.
The tablet was running kitkat when I got it. The first thing I did after rooting and installing TWRP was flash the kernel that you linked. It's since then that I've been having the problems. I'm guessing I need to restore to original kitkat kernel / rom then re-flash the lollipop files in the correct order. Is that right? If so, can you point me in the direction of the correct files please? Sorry to be a pain and thanks for your help. It is much appreciated.

... Upon further searching, I've found "T800XXU1ANFB_T800BTU1ANG1_BTU.zip" at Sammobile.com. File details:
2014-08-27
United Kingdom
4.4.2
PDA T800XXU1ANFB
CSC T800BTU1ANG1
I'm currently downloading the file. I'm guessing once I flash that with Odin in download mode, I'll be back to square one, right?

Yes, that was a lollipop kernel, so I'm not surprised it created problems on an otherwise KitKat device. There's a couple of routes you could go.
You could try flashing IronRom 1.9.7 which is a KitKat Rom and should replace the kernel with a KitKat kernel and see if the TAB behaves (same link as before). Make sure it is 1.9.7 not 2.1 which is Lolllipop.
Or, you could cut to the chase and flash a Lollipop factory image (with bootloader) and then reroot and reinstall TWRP. The instructions for this is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/samsung-lollipop-range-tab-s-t3021612
Good luck.

Use the link I gave you above. All the firmwares are there and the instructions.

Once again, many thanks. I'll let you know the outcome.

Sorry, one last question. As there is no UK ROM listed, should I use the "country unknown" version?

I'm actually not sure it really matters which country version you use. I used Cellular South since I'm in the US, but I've seen people here use the French version. It will simply dictate what keyboard language comes up first by default, which you can change. I don't think there are any other real differences. Try the Canada one. The UK one you downloaded from Sam Mobile, based on it's date, is obviously KitKat.

You might also search the thread for an answer and post the question if you don't find it.
I'm not an absolute expert and don't want to misrepresent myself.

Success! Worked perfectly. I think you're right about the country thing. I used the Canadian ROM as you suggested and it worked fine. Just defaulted to use a US keyboard layout rather than UK. Re rooted and flashed TWRP. Backed it up this time! Big big thanks Hookmt.

[Q] Stuck in fastboot mode!

hi guys, i got a new HTC ONE M8 from China Mobile 3 days ago, when i got home i realized that it works with Sina Weibo instead of asking me for my google acount like all the previous Android phones i had before, i went to the store asked for a refund.. not happening. I paid 800 bucks for a phone i cant use.. so i went ahead and tried to solve the issue and root it, i followed a threat here every instruction but i messed up somehow and at the end i wasnt able to enter the recovery mode, so i couldnt install the rom i downloaded (this is the guide i followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2705292 ) so being unable to do anything i went to a tech today, he charged me 100 bucks to "solve the problem" and he was able to S-OFF the phone and i was finally able to get into recovery mode with TWRP but he said he didnt have any rom cause the phone was too new.. so i came back home where i had the ones i downloaded from the link i posted above... followed the insutrctions and installed the rom, everything seemed to be fine but then when it rebooted, nothing happens, the phone is stuck on fastboot mode and wont load into the operating system, i have tried to reboot a million times, updated the kernel , updated the twrp... still nothing. i am in china and have been trying to find another tech.. no luck at all. can someone help me or give me ideas on what to do? i would really appreciate the help!

You should be able to just flash any GSM ROM unless the Chinese model is a different variant. You could have bricked it, never a good idea to flash incorrect ROM for a device.
May I ask what ROM did you flash and for what device?

What does "totally dead" mean? Any charge LED? Any response when connected to a computer.
Also, not a good idea to dig up a thread from 5 months ago, with limited relevance. The top post did different steps, and was stuck in fastboot, which doesn't sound the same as your situation.

May i know where did you find the Old Rom of HTC one M8 China phone? Please Send me a Link. Its for MTK6572.
What Device you have?

help with "imei, baseband, ect 'unknown'"

old m9 ended up kicking the bucket sorta (usb died, so no way to charge the phone) so i bought a used one from swappa. it came with the latest ruu flashed, but i decided to reflash again to make sure it was totally clean (RUU_HIMA_UL_M60_SENSE70_ATT_MR_Cingular_US_3.38.502.12.exe). it went fine and so i began the process of unlocking it and flashing recovery (twrp 3.0.2.0) and flashing a rom (arhd 20 which is marshmallow) and titanium backuping back into shape. it unlocked and flashed recovery fine, however when i flashed the rom and did the first boot, i noticed i had no signal even though the stock rom had 4 bars of lte. it was also very laggy and had issues with crashing apps and for some reason still had at&t bloatware even though i did a dalvik/cache/system/data wipe beforehand and then a data wipe during the install and was missing inbuilt htc apps like internet. in the settings it shows that the imei, baseband, and other things related are all "unknown". i researched and came across a fix where you flash back your stock boot image, and it worked, except it would fail to boot after the first reboot. so that was useless.
i decided to try flashing arhd 14 (lollipop) because its what my old m9 had since forever and never gave me an issue. surprisingly, it actually installed and ran just fine even though the phone is on marshmallow firmware, as well as much quicker and smoother than arhd 20. however, i have the same issue. no signal, and imei and stuff "unknown". it does show my imei in download mode so i know the phone itself didnt forget it somehow. i have no idea what is going on here because ive literally never had this problem with any phone, even with my old m9 and i absolutely refuse to use a stock rom and have to manually deal with all of the bloatware especially with selinux making anything remotely "dangerous" an excessive hassle. can someone help me figure out this unnecessary pita?
this is what is shown in the download mode screen:
*** UNLOCKED ***
HTC_HIMAULATT PVT S-ON
LK-1.0.0.0000
RADIO-01.01_U11440801_96.01.51207A_F

Are you S-OFF? if so, are you sure that you used the correct firmware. Never had this issue myself, but am remembering from the days on the M9 that such an issue could occur if a wrong firmware is flashed.
Another chance could be the following one: if your RUU didn't download correctly it might be damaged and thus have caused the problem. This may be the case as you're missing stock Apps after flash. Have you checked if the md5 of the downloaded file is correct.
Edit: report back if it helped.

Yeah turns out the latest arhd is made for 3.35 and I'm on 3.38, so that's why it's all jacked up. And of course there is no way to "downgrade" (see: upgrade) to a lower firmware without $25 s off. Pretty ridiculous I have to pay just to s off so I can put my phone on an older software that works better because of "security" (see: money).

I still think something went wrong when flashing RUU. A 3.35 based ROM shouldn't jack up anything, as long as your firmware is even a later one than the ROM base. Btw 25 bucks are well invested regarding all the work they do, but it's the wrong place to discuss. Did you check if the RUU downloaded correctly and the md5 after download still is the same as given in the dl link. Missing stock Apps after flashing an RUU are a major indicator for a bad download, and if firmware parts where missing in this download as well, you'll end up just as you'd described in your opening post.

I used the ruu 2 or 3 times and it worked fine every time and the stock rom runs just fine. It's when trying to flash the rom it doesn't work, and I used one I downloaded from my computer, from my phone, and one I already had on my SD and they all ended up with the same result.

It actually does. That's why thicklizard made his custom kernel. The 3.3x firmware versions for SKUs which skipped the 3.35 version are not compatible with 3.35 roms unless that kernel gets flashed.
Edit: I just read that the mono-revisited kernel is only for AOSP roms. I'm sorry but it seems like I don't have a solution for sense roms.

Doesn't daktah say in the OP that he was missing those apps after flashing ARHD20? I never used that rom but it sounds like they got uninstalled during the installation. Does ARHD have an aroma installer like the Viper rom does where you can select which apps to install or not to install?

Thanks for the clarification mate.
Didn't remember this one.. guess it's already to long since I used my M9. I'm not sure if he tried to state exactly what I quoted from your post, cause he jumps from RUUing right to the flash of ARHD. never used it myself, this I don't know if it comes with an Aroma Installer at all. Either way it would be interesting to know what happens if he just boots into his stock ROM, to make sure the cause isn't a bad download of the RUU. Feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken

So I managed to fix it... By replacing the USB/aux board in my phone. Only cost 10 bucks for a new one . However now i have a problem where my phone will not charge at full speed and will actually give me the "using too much power to charge" message when doing a titanium backup even on the stock charger. The battery was at dead flat 0 for like 5 days before I fixed it, so do I need to replace it or is there something else I can do to fix it? When it's full it holds a charge for as long as it did before, just charging is not working correctly it seems.

I think i do, Currently at work. i'll contact you as soon as i get my hands on it.
I've had this quite a lot of times but flashing a different kernel usually sorts of out right away

I think I messed up again

For starters, I have an AT&T HTC M9. I unlocked the bootloader, and after a while, got TWRP 3.0.2.0 installed as the custom recovery. I decided to flash ARHD, since that's my personal favorite that I've used on my M7 and M8. After flashing and clearing cache, the phone optimizes apps, reboots, and then stays at the HTC screen for a bit. Finally, the screen will turn off as if it's booted in. I could then wake the device and adjust volume and such, but I still had the HTC logo covering what would be the UI. After a bit more time, the setup menu finally came up. I couldn't set up wifi, as it got stuck on the "connecting" screen. Wiped, re-flashed ARHD. Same thing. Finally got through the setup, and I had no service. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to install a corresponding firmware or something? This happens to me every time. Also the M9 had Android 6.0 with Sense 7.0, for the record.
Have you made sure that the rom is compatible with your phones firmware?.

The thread says it's built off of 3.35.401.12, and my phone is running 3.38.502.12. The thread goes on to say "- If your current firmware version doesn't match ROM firmware version, wiping data inside AROMA is highly recommended!" so I figured if I wiped the data inside AROMA it would still work. Am I just dumb?

"For Sense-based roms you just need to re-flash the stock boot image of your current firmware version." I'm now at a loss. I am in way over my head right now. So technically speaking, I'd be able to get ARHD to run on my ATT M9? That quoted sentence gave me an anxiety attack.
Edit: I've got an RUU that I was thinking of using and then just rooting the stock ROM and then going about my day. I'd be ok with that if I knew for a fact that it wouldn't remove TWRP. That and I was looking forward to the ARHD battery life.

Keep calm. All you need to do is downloading the RUU for your current firmware and the decryption tool that is linked in my thread. Drag'n'drop the RUU onto the *.exe file of the tool and wait some minutes. When it's finished it will give you an output folder. Inside you'll find a firmware folder and inside that one you'll find the needed boot image. All you need to do then is booting your phone to download mode and connecting it via USB with your pc. Copy the boot.img into your adb/fastboot folder and use
Code:
fastboot flash boot <enter name of the boot image - including its file extension - here and delete the less/greater symbols>
E.g. if the file is named boot_signed.img the command would be
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot_signed.img
The next time you boot your rom everything should be working, fine.
Edit: Your edit didn't exist when I wrote this post... The RUU will remove TWRP if you flash it. RUUs always reflash the whole phone (in other words: the system and the firmware).

E.g. if the file is named boot_signed.img the command would be
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot_signed.img
The next time you boot your rom everything should be working, fine.
Edit: Your edit didn't exist when I wrote this post... The RUU will remove TWRP if you flash it. RUUs always reflash the whole phone (in other words: the system and the firmware).

It appears that I may have given some misinformation. Looking in the ROM that I had flashed (Official Build ATT 3.38.502.12 ROM 7-12-2016), the firmware appears as (obviously) 3.38.502.12. However, looking in download mode, OS appears to actually be 3.38.502.41. Are the instructions you gave me still pertinent, or do I need to try something else?

In that case you will need the boot image of firmware 3.38.502.41. The correct firmware version of your phone is stated in the download mode. You're lucky since HTC released a RUU for that firmware, as well.
There are two main problems with HTCs website:
a) They only provide RUUs for their US customers. So be happy that you bought a US varaint of the M9.
b) They don't update their website that regularly although the files are already available. Since the URL isn't that complicated you can simply guess the correct one for newer RUUs.

Done deal. So after flashing ARHD and then re-flashing the boot image, I can happily go on my way with a nifty AT&T M9 with ARHD?

Thank you for preventing me from dying today. I'll see what I can do. Also, I was sitting here, looking at the HTC site, and I found all the ROMs, but for the life of me could not find the right one. That was when I noticed you had linked it to me. Now I'm actually wondering where you're finding these.

On their website. Take a look at the URL of the download for the older 3.38.502.12 RUU you can find there, then take a look at your current firmware. If you now look at the link for the latest RUU I posted you'll understand how I guessed the correct link. It's no magic.

Ok, so I flashed the ROM, (ARHD 20.0, 6.0, Sense 7.0) and then flashed the boot. Phone boots up fine, I now have signal and data, but there is one issue. I have no wifi. Is this...radio-related?
Another edit: I also don't see SuperSU anywhere, and that's confusing me just a bit.

No, the radio/baseband doesn't deal with the WIFI reception. There are other parts of the firmware like the wcnss that are responsible for that. You may want to ask in the dedicated rom thread for further help. I haven't heard of such wifi problems before.
In regard to your edit: I never flashed ARHD. I can't even tell you whether it's using SuperSU or any other superuser app.

Alrighty, so it appears support has ended for ARHD. I'll go ahead and ask in the thread anyway, but out of curiosity, I checked out Viper. Looks like that won't work with AT&T. I'll try out ICE maybe. I need more practice.

Well, you could use viper. You just need to choose default in the aroma installer. But I don't know whether your reception is supported out of the box or not. And since viper 5 is based on a HTC 10 port the boot image trick might not work, either. Viper 4 on the other hand should be working fine in case you need to reflash the boot image since it's based on the latest wwe M9 firmware.

I guess my signature should be sufficent for answering that question.
(And yes, I do know that my firmware and the TWRP version I'm using are outdated. I didn't have the time nor the motiviation that would be needed for updating them. I'll probably just wait until HTC distributes android 7 for my SKU.)

I hope I'm not taking up too much of your personal time from asking such questions, as the thread's original question has been answered. I'm currently looking at how to install 5.3, because it looks like a wonderful ROM to have.

Flash it like any other rom. The aroma installer is actually pretty straight forward. Choose default since there is nor AT&T specific installation.
Just make sure that you read what it wants you to do. Sometimes it asks which apps you want to install and sometimes which you want to uninstall.

Got it last month, but thanks for the heads up in case others have not.
does anyone have this to flash with ODIN? I just need to flash this to get the newer baseband radio from it.
---------- Post added at 04:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:17 PM ----------
Okay found all of the stuff OIDN and drivers and the rom along with TWRP 2.8.7.0 to flash with ODIN after the firmware it flashed so that you can go back to a know good working recovery once your done with the baseband update. I'll post a link to my google drive once I have all of that in place. Now what I'd like to know is if you would like it all in part ie. rom zip then the odin zip and the recovery zip and the drivers zip or would you like it in one big zip file? Let me know. That way I can get up to the drive that most of the users want it in. Thanks and glade we still have devs that work on this old but still kick a$$ phone.

I apologize for the late reply, but here's a download link from SamFirmware.com (a mirror which doesn't throttle downloads to less than 56k dialup speeds).

Sent from my SM-N900T using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Take sim card out while flashing.
I tried to flash mine through ota update. Somehow damaged my sim.
I realised a day later that i could not send an sms message. Recieve ok send no. Everything else was fine. Lucky i had my girl's sim to test it.
Had to get a new one at the store. They tried to charge me. Ha!
Better safe than sorry.

I accepted this update via OTA and had no such problems, I suspect your problems may have been caused by a failed update.

Yes. it was. The file I downloaded from here (QD2 Update) would not complete flashing. So I ODINed the PL1 firmware and tried to flash again. did not work. blahdiblah.
Eventually I went through the OTA update from PL1. the phone rebooted telling me to insert sim. I managed to restart the phone and get the sim recognized, but the sim was damaged somehow with it not being able to send text messages.
Went to the store. they at first tried to charge me for a new sim.... but then the guy remembered that I had previously called his manager complaining that he was too good of a salesman.... then he told me straight: "we've had a bunch of complaints about that problem" (OTA updates breaking SIM cards)
So, Just to be on the safe side, I take the sim out from now on.
Alright.

Network Problem
hey. Guys i have a sm-n900t but my sim card wont read. There is a round circle with a line in it and when i try to call some it say "mobile network not available" please help me guys...
I suspect you may have an out of date modem that's not compatible with the latest Lollipop update. My initial questions to you are did you install this update via OTA or using ODIN and what OS did you have prior to installing this update? If your currently installed modem is indeed out of date, the first troubleshooting step would be to re-flash the N900TUVUFQD2 firmware using ODIN.
If I'm on this baseband version, can i flash the Dompop rom: https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...rom-dompop-urv1-tekhd-edition-note-4-t3060175
Or do i need to change baseband version??
Also, to root my note 3 should i follow this guide or something else? https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2672393

here, i just posted this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...updated-bl-cp-t-mobile-galaxy-note-3-t3651839
ODIN should update the modem partition when you flash the latest firmware, I'm not sure why yours didn't update unless you somehow flashed it incorrectly. I'll record a video on how to do if you'd like.
I have the SM-N900TUVUFQD2 from T Mobile, but not on a major network.
Would like to update to Marshmallow, can someone please post the steps on how to do this or a link if someone has the Marshmallow update file, please.
The link in AndroidHacker99 post is 5.0 Lollipop
Update; I am running Phronesis N5 6.0.1 v3.0 and it is running very well with no problems.
I am on the latest lineageOS 20170822, my phone shows a baseband of N900TUVSFPH3, how can I update to latest modem firmware?

Alright, sounds like there needs to be some clarification here.
#1. I installed the update via ODIN, and IF you flashed the update via ODIN as well, your baseband WILL update (assuming something didn't go wrong, in which case I recommend a re-flash to ensure the process completed successfully).
#2. I never intended this to become an error reporting thread, I was simply posting a notification for those who didn't know about this update. You should go post about this in the Troubleshooting section of this Note 3 (TMO) subsection.
#3. If you want to complain to me saying "This update broke my phone!!"... It's not my software, therefore it's not my problem. All modifications (this includes firmware flashes) are YOUR responsibility and YOU perform it at YOUR OWN RISK.
Go look around on XDA, everyone says "PERFORM AT YOUR OWN RISK".
Hope this cleared most of it up, if not... go re-read it because you probably didn't ACTUALLY read it.

Stock rom for Hungarian variant?

Hello,
So i wanna go back from 8.1 aosp to stock rom, but i saw these different firmware versions people are talking about on this site like v10f,k,h or something and i don't get what they mean. If i install the firmware from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g7-thinq/how-to/guide-how-to-flash-stock-firmware-lock-t3820888 , will it work? And is it the proper one? I had it installed once but only to get back from a bootloop, so I didn't really use it. Also, I checked on this website: https://www.mylgphones.com/lg-phones-software-update-hungary-download-lg-stock-kdz-firmware , i found the exact variant using my imei but there is no download link.

Hmmm...i would say don't rush unless you are sure.Maybe someone can help you.But in the past when i had sony (all sony categorie ) device u can flash any customized firmware version of countries of stock firmware as long you have UNLOCKED device. Not sure for lg.Please wait until someone guide you. Also please check link in this thread maybe it has what you need.(under kdz folder).
V10 b,f,k etc are system versions. Like program versions 1.2, 1.3, etc. There are 2 ways of going back to stock. You can use LG bridge to reinstall stock. Just reboot to download mode (reboot, USB , vol+). LG bridge should automatically detect the phone and allow you to update/go back to stock

Ok thank you, but i would like to make a full rom backup of the aosp i currently have installed. I don't think i can use twrp cause last time i flashed it, it bootlooped (even with the persistent version) and i had to reflash the boot img etc. I read about making a nandroid backup ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818321 ) with adb and dd but i would have to backup the entire memory and restore it and i would like not to mess with protected bootloader partitions for example. And i don't know exactly which partitions i want to backup with the method described above bcs there are partitions like recovery-persist and recovery-refresh and i don't know which are the right ones. Is there a way to do it?
