Be careful if you follow this process.
Before proceeding with the first step you have to make a full backup of the TA partition. If you don't, you'll lose the DRM keys, which means you won't be able to activate features like bravia engine and more never.
If you back up this TA partition, you'll be able to restore it and get Bravia engine and other stuff back to your phone.

Hi guys
I just receive my xperia play and i have some questions about rooting and istalling new roms
I already root the device by using zergRush method http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1093 soi can use apps such as titanium
But now i can't get to recovery because after installing rom manager, clockword for xperia play is not there. I was looking the dev section and i saw the clockworkmod recovery of team freexperia but i have no idea on how to install it because they said not to flash it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130639
Can someone please help me, i am a newbie with the phone and i rally dont want to mess things up. Also when i hold down vol down with power on my evo 3d and inspire it gots me to the Hboot i think, but on the play even after the root i have nothing
Thanks guys
Recovery is part of the kernel (boot partition) in the PLAY, so you can't install the recovery by itself. You have to unlock the bootloader then install a custom kernel that contains the recovery. The image that people say not to flash is a kernel that ONLY has the recovery and no boot, so you're only suppose to fastboot boot from that image (meaning you must be connected to the computer every time you want to use it).

Thanks for clearing that up. Quite different from my HTC Z and I wondered how to get recovery on the Play. Don't feel the need to unlock bootloader quite yet though. I'm happy with the stock launcher.
Hey guys.
It is a really often asked question. And especially for noobs who managed installing a custom rom (because those always ask )
So what I have done is to develop a GUI Flashing Tool (useful even for advanced users) which will make it easier and quicker to flash images via fastboot.
And to show you how to use it I wrote this tutorial, hopefully helping those who are uncomfortable with command lines and internal knowledge.
As an example I will use Stock EU 2.3.5 as it is suitable for most users.
--------------------------------------------------------
Step 1: Download everything we will need
1. Download PG76IMG.zip from here
2. Download the Flash-Tool here (download the flashy.zip)
Step 2: Extract the zips
1. Extract boot.img, system.img and recovery.img from PG76IMG.zip
2. Extract all files from flashy.zip
Step 3: Take your phone into fastboot mode
1. Run Flashy.exe (.NET Framework required)
2. Click Bootloader and Fastboot Button (USB Debugging must be enabled)
3. Wait till the device rebooted into the bootloader.
Step 4: Flash boot image
1. Select Flash Boot Option
2. Choose the boot.img file you extracted
3. Click Flash!
Step 5: Wait till a message pops up and tells you flashing is done.
Step 6: Flash system image
1. Select Flash System Option
2. Choose the system.img file you extracted
3. Click Flash!
4. Wait till a message pops up and tells you flashing is done.
Step 7: Do a factory reset ! (Wipe data partition and all caches)
OPTIONAL: Flash Stock Recovery
(There is actually no need to do this)
1. Select Flash Recovery Option
2. Choose the recovery.img file you extracted
3. Click Flash!
4. Wait till a message pops up and tells you flashing is done.
--------------------------------------------------------
Now reboot your phone and be happy that it was just a point-and-click-adventure
my savior
I did imposible things with my phone, tried everything goldcards, RUUs, everything you could possibly think of. Only this helped
p.s.: froze for a moment and my heart skiped a beat but now it's OK

Yes, for noobs who install a custom ROM without first doing a backup of the stock ROM in CWM Recovery!
BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP!
Thanks for the great utility and guide.
hmmmp
how may hours should the 1st bootup should take??
which first bootup? you mean after pressing the "Bootloader and Fastboot Button" ?
If yes, I can tell you it will take FOREVER unless you activate USB Debugging in your phone settings
nope..i already did step 1 to step 7 after i factory reset it i reboot it then it takes hours still on htc sign..
how did you factory reset? if you have a custom recovery you have to wipe caches and data partition.
theres a factory reset option on the hboot menu....
whats custom recovery??
sorry im new here i dont know much about it..

did you flash cwm (clockworkmod recovery)? is your bootloader unlocked?
yes i have cwm and unlock bootloader...im currently using cm7 but now after doing your steps im WFS is stuck on htc boot logo...
then go to cwm and wipe the data and cache partition and also the dalvik cache. then reboot again
ok i'll try that...
whats the purpose of flashing the recovery.img??
and is this for s-off only??because my WFS s-on
flashing the recovery.img will delete the cwm recovery and return it to the stock recovery. but this is mostly not needed.
still no luck..i already wipe all the partion dlvk and factory wipe then reboot it..but still stuck on htc boot...
try to flash system and boot image again. otherwise I have no idea.
already did that...
do you mean my WFS is bricked??? what the .!#[email protected]#
no it is not. you can still reflash cm7 or another rom via cwm. I don't know why a stock rom does not boot on your phone
woooohh...what i relief i thought i brick my phone..
my recovery becomes pink...why is that?
Can it be used to downgrade from 2.13.401.3 to 2.13.401.2 ?
No, it can not. It requires unlocked Bootloader and is just a fastboot GUI. To downgrade follow the tutorial to downgrade in the wfs general section and afterwards flash a ruu.
Hi XDA community,
the last two days I rooted and unlocked the bootloader of my arc. My current build version is .42.
Because I'm fairly new to this scene and not sure how to do various things (or I'm too dumb to understand these installing-instructions), I would like to ask you some questions:
1. How to do a factory reset with a rooted & unlocked arc?
2. I want to clean my SD-Card - am I able to delete all the files on the card without getting any issues with my OS etc?
3. After I "cleaned" my phone, I would like to install CM7 - could you give me a detailled instruction how to do it (because I really don't get it which step I've to make first (e.g. kernel etc))?
Thanks in advance,
1. Flash firmware again using FlasTool
2. Yes
3. Search

You can do all what you've asked with a recovery tool. I recommend you clockworkmod.
1. download and instal the clockworkmod on your phone
CWM -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1345741
2. download CM7 zip -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102523
3. Copy the CM7 .zip to your SD card
4. Enter recovery mod (power off the phone, then start it up and press rapidly the vol. down button)
5. make backup
6. wipe cache, do factory reset
7. go to "instal zip from sd card" and choose the CM7 .zip
Or just see the FXP CM7 link.

Hey guys! Today I rooted my device, installed CWM and installed a ROM onto my Arc device today. It all went fine but when I rebooted after the install the device seems to be stuck at the "Sony" logo. I cant seem to boot it into CWM (tried it couple of times). I'm new to this so does anyone know what the problem might be?
Thanks in advance
Did you unlock the bootloader? Flashed the right kernel? Explain a bit what did you flash and how.

I'm kinda new to this and I just did what the guide told me to do , which is the following:
For Locked Bootloaders: Root your phone using this tutorial, than install CWM using this app
Place ROM on SD-Card
Back up user apps and data. (Various apps available, search Google Play. This is a popular one)
Power off phone.
Boot to CWM (Keep pressing the Volume Down key after the Sony logo appears)
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Mounts and Storage --> Format /System
Advanced > Wipe Battery Stats
Install zip from SD card > Choose Xperia Ultimate HD
Follow on screen instructions on AROMA.
After Complete Installation untick "reboot" and select reboot in CWM
Give the phone a good full charge, and enjoy your brand new phone!
Okay I suppose you flashed this rom and installed it with aroma installer. And you can't boot into recovery mode when logo appears (by pressing vol down button?)
Argh I had the same problem when using different rom with aroma installer and I couldn't boot in recovery mode. The main problem was not getting into cwm so I had to flash the stock rom (ftf file) back on arc using flashtool and I rooted the phone and unlocked BL again. Then I restored the previous backed up rom.
Is there any particular reason to have locked BL? You can do it with flashtool.
I don't know what the problem would be since I don't have enough experience with aroma installers, I just know the basics of flashing, installing and I can solve problems on my own arc when I f*** up something but I'm a bit confused here so you better wait for someone who has more brains than I do.

I just want to put my standard rom on there atm, can you link me to something that tells me how to do that?
Ok, so here's thread with stock, custom roms, kernels etc. here find the stock rom and choose version (lt15i or lt18i depends on which phone you have and where you're from) and download the ftf file.
Then go to this link where you'll get direct instructions on how to flash. It's really not that complicated. Just open flashtool, choose flashmode and browse for the ftf file, then flash it.
Good luck.
If you wish us to help you, at least tell which ROM you installed.
For a locked bootloader, flash the original TFT through Flashtool.
Root.
Install CWM.
Reflash ROM.
If your bootloader is unlocked, just flash a kernel with CWM included.
Mount your SD Card.
Put the ROM on it.
Flash.
Hope I helped you !
Cheers.
So i've been trying to root my xperia z5 premium. I successfully unlocked the bootloader and then proceeded to following this tutorial ( http://techchomps.com/how-to-root-the-sony-xperia-z5-premium-e6853/ ) to root my device. It then led me to this tutorial ( http://techchomps.com/how-to-install-a-custom-recovery-on-the-sony-xperia-z5-premium-e6853/ ). I downloaded the stable supersu file and the twrp image ending in 22 and the kernel ending in 4va ( i think flashing this is the cause of my problems). on the page that gives you the link for these files there is another tutorial ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-premium/development/e6853-root-unlocked-bootloader-t3255039 ). which i followed up to the reboot point in step 2. after doing this my phone is now stuck in a bootloop.
How do i fix this?
Does Power - Volume + pressed together for a couple of seconds does something ?
If it turn the phone off, try to flash a firmware via Flashtool, otherwise I don't know :/
Use the Sony software to do a factory reset. It's gotten me out of a couple of bootloop situations with my previous phones (Z and Z3)

So I can still enter recovery but thats it. I continued trying to install supersu but it would still never get past the Sony logo on reboot. I managed to restore previous function using a flashtool and a previous firmware version. I still want my phone to have root access though.. Thanks for your help regardless
same problem here , any answers?
test this and press thank for help you !!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-...ck-root-xperia-z5-premium-sony-stock-t3335974 !!! or test my attached boot by @tobias.waldvogel https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8Kt32KFfNGoR1l4XzI4bHVJeDg/view?usp=drivesdk
