Hello,
I dont now which phone to choose. I like both of them. I like Htc sense and touchwiz too. What i need from the phone ?
1. Good media player
2. Good internet browsing
3. good gps
Im thinking to buy a galaxy S, but i heard about cool thing for htc desire called OpenDesire. This thing makes desire really super phone. How do you think will something similar will be gor galaxy S ?
OpenDesire is a stock Android ROM, removing all the HTC Sense gubbins, and isn't something 'available' for the Galaxy S as it's written specifically for the Desire...
im really confused because i dont which phone to choose :/.
Definitely go Desire all the way.
I have heard people complaining the Sammy is slow in menus and GPS is super crap. Takes long to get a lock etc.

hello, I had both Galaxy S as well as the Desire I returned the Galaxy S after just 3 days of use as the battery life was just appalling! It was laggy, hated the UI (very slow compared to previous versions of TouchWiz) and also hated the "iPhone style" in the menu.. I hate iOS which is why I got Android! Also, the screen is very nice, but I really could not put it into my own pocket! Anyways whats the differance 0.3 inches eh?
Now that I('ve got the Desire, I just love it! Sense UI, fast, snappy, and NO lag! NEVER! Notofications bar, better than any notificatio0ns you get on any other phone, pull it down and sellect what you want! Love it! Camera is, well, equal, I dont use it that much to notice!
Music player, very good however in the Desire you dont get an equalizer! Once again, I love the phone!
It may seem that I am being biased, but thats the way I feel Just one more thing, when you type, you make mistakes, just like everyone, on the Galaxy S you have to use you fingers to get that little line to move where you want to correct, whereas on the Desired, you can use the Track Pad! Love this feature!
ohh and about the GPS.. well Galaxy S has accuracy of 5-30 meters (didn't get to test myself, thats what I've read), and on mine Dersire, 1-3 Meters! now you know which to pick!
hope this helps! good Luck!
Thanks for your post. Really helpfull.
But samsung galaxy S is getting 2.2froyo with a lot of fixes and also GPS fix. So i think they will fix lag . Also there's a lagfix for samsung.
Hi, why don't you go to a store, check them both, and buy the one which steals your heart
that's what I do if I need to chose between several phones
You now you can try each of them. But you cant try GPs and other stuff. Its better to ask in forum, because people owns that phones and can say much more prons/cons than you find by trying them
I own both phones. In fact I had a Desire and got rid of it for an iPhone but recently upgraded my contract and got a Galaxy S.
It's a great phone with some nice features such as 720p mkv video playback, streaming is nice too and the Super AMOLED screen is MUCH nicer than the SLCD in the Desire now. Movies look gorgeous on this thing.
However I chose to use the Desire again because it's got a few extras which I missed such as flash, LED notifications, the amount of custom roms available currently including Cyanogenmod 6 (currently use) and also the lag on the Galaxy S was driving me nuts in the end! Even with custom roms and lag fixes applied it would still lag sometimes, especially when trying to answer phone calls. The battery in the Galaxy did seem to a last a bit longer than the desire but I'm sure that can be sorted by watching what apps I use / finding the perfect rom.
At the end of the day they are both great phones and I'm sure you would love whichever one you had. My Dad borrowed my phone today and was watching mks in his dinner hour at work and was so impressed!
Its so hard to make a decision. Desire with OPenDesire ROM is super phone. So fast and battery lives longer and much more. I very like Galaxy S, but he have a buggy OS

I had the problem after returning the Galaxy S, I had 2 choices, SE X10 or the Desire, was not disapointed
so the best choice now from androids is HTC Desire ?

If you are asking it on Desire forum, what else would you expect? I personally have desire and I'm very satisfied with it. Earlier I had Galaxy Spica which was ok also over the earlier non-android phone.

Given the Desire is nearly 6 months old now, I'd be inclined to wait a month or two if I were you as new models should launch shortly.
Regards,

But i heard that samsung have a buggy OS. And have no costum ROMs and etc. There's a lot of good roms for Desire, including the OpenDesire which makes your phone super
Personally I would prefer the Desire over Galaxy S.
I've had a little look at the Galaxy S and I think the camera app is a bit superior over the HTCs built in stuff - and when it gets the FroYo update it will probably be even more so.
But everything else seems nicer, smoother in the Desire.
Also I don't like the iPhone-esque of the Galaxy S - didn't like the iPhone - felt it was restrictive and thus went to Android in the first place... it was either that or the win Phone 7 - and that seems more orientated towards Xbox...
i were almost buying Galaxy S, but then i heard about super thing called OpenDesire. And heard that samsung OS is buggy, laggy. And no costum ROMs
HTC Desire HD/Ace is out soon apparently and looks nice, as is the Desire Z (but that might be US only)

As I understand it, it will be released as the Desire Z in Europe, and the G2 in the US.
However, reports today suggest that the processor is underclocked to 800Mhz, which may mean it is being pitched as a lower end phone than the current Desire. Time will tell, as clock speed isn't everything!

Dave
Not very smart to ask this in this section
I owned a Motorola Milestone, then sold it to a friend when I bought the Desire. I flashed my Desire with a few vanilla ROMs and couldn't stand it. I needed to have Sense UI cuz otherwise it looked JUST LIKE MY OLD PHONE.
For the same reason, why would HTC keep updating an 'old' phone when they can sell you a new one? Else everyone would just update their phones and to f*** with new devices. Right now, I could buy a Desire HD/Z etc buut I have the ROM running smoothly on my Desire so...why bother?
So as the topic says:
If you are upgrading your phone, I'd like to know why?
And what would you buy?
If you're phone was broken/lost/stolen there is no need to reply. It's obvious
why you needed a new phone
If I was to update my Desire, I would do it only to get a phone with true multi-touch.. Its the only thing that kinda annoys me.. Not that I play games so much, except the Angry Birds ofcourse.. But yeah.. that would be the only reason why I would upgrade..
The dual core CPU's dont convince me either.. My Snapy is doing its job really well..

Hmm well I ran the Multitouch test from the app market and my screen tracks just fine until you cross axes. Never considered this (probably cuz it never has been an issue for me, oh wait! Angry birds!) thanx.
Better camera would be cool and a second one for the face to do videochat etc. Better battery(usage) would be an important factor too.
Still, dont have the money to upgrade anyway and i dont think e.g. the Nexus S is good enough (camera/battery) to justify the update.
.
id wait for the new htc dual core phones
one of the biggest dual core pluses is improved battery life when doing something other than idling
Good info, good good. Dual core would be a plus to wait for...
Hi guys
Thanks for this great forum, and special thanks goes to you Capy, you are ****ing awesome!!
I have had my DHD for allmost a year now, and have been using several different roms for it, the one i am most happy with, is the RCMix3d Runny..
Oh yeah!
Now i got some questions..
My old DHD is about to retire, and i have these options..
Buy a "new" used one, that has been used for two months, and then have it for another year.. I am really a glad user of the DHD, and i wouldnt mind having the model for another year..
OR i could go and buy the Sensation XL..
But then some questions do pop up, that only develepors and other other people who knows a lot more than me, can answer..
Will the developing of ROMS and custom stuff, be quite as much for the Sensation XL, as it is for the DHD?
I think that i am only gonna go with the RCMix Runny..
and my biggest concern right now, is how to flash it?
I've heard something about all new models from HTC comes allready with s-off and all the other stuff off, so that you can install another rom, without flashing.. Is that correct?
Thank you so much for your time!
no not correct. they need rooting and then flashing roms .the s_off progress is only some kind of preparation. i thing XL is better cause it has 1080p recording and a sense 3.5 rom itself!!! and it will have good android 4 roms

Cool, thank you
But after reading this:
http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/42444/htc-sensation-xl-xe-vs
I will say that the Sensation XE is better, though it has a smaller screen..
More pixels
Never processor
Records 1080p, which XL doesn't, only 720p
HDMI out, XL doesn't have
1730mAh battery, the XL has 1600
Its only screen size and memory size, that XL beats XE..

thanks, that sounds awesome, never heard of it..
but, i cant wait a half year..
one of the reasons that i need a new one soon, is that my wifi doesn't work anymore, after i dropped the phone..
my gps doesnt work either
the volume button works only half the time..
i could have it repaired under the warranty, but it then i will first have it back in january, that sucks..
EDIT:
WTF!?!?
just read another article about it
The tegra 3 is supposed to come with a 10.1 inch screen.. thats way to big for a "cellphone".. never gonna buy that!
Hi,
I had my DHD for 9 months and two weeks ago i bought a Sensation XE. The XE is a great phone and the best part of it is that there is a RcMix Rom for it
If i were you i would buy the XE (Dualcore) and not the XL (Singlecore). I'm sure you will be very happy with it (it's like the Monster Edition of the DHD).
And the price is not so high, i got mine for €450 ($500 i think). To get S-off, CWM and root is very easy with this phone, it takes about 10 minutes and you can flash your RcMix Rom.

Lol, tegra3 phone will be launched next year..
Well, seems you need a new phone deperately, i would say why nt get a second hand phone first while waiting yr phone to be repaired??
If you have cash, den i would say go for htc rezound or sensation XE, but nt XL..
Cash is no problem at all, i can buy exact the model i want witouth simlock..
HTC Rezound can't be bought in Denmark
But i think i might get the XE then.
Thanks to all of you
Sensation XE WOULD BE GOOD ACCORDING TO ME..

I would suggest you to wait. I got my DHD as soon as it was launched and ever since i have been so happy with it. I can assure you, you are not missing much.
I am waiting for rumored HTC Ville...There s not much difference between Sensation (XE, XL whatever) and DHD

Not much difference??? qHD res., 1.5 GhZ Dualcore, Beats by DR. Dre, stronger battery, 1080p video record, front camera to name only 6 things.
There is enough difference betwen DHD and XE but not so much between DHD and XL.
I loved my DHD but i love my XE much more

Hello there.
I've waited few months to retire my old HTC Desire and purchase a new device, for few weeks ago I've been waiting the release of the HTC one X but now I've been reading some topics about issues and problems that the owners are suffering...
So here is my question to the One X owners, would you recommend the device to your best friend?
Thanks

Read back to the comments on DHD forums when that came out. Same with the Sensation. They both had teething issues for some users, and I don't regret getting either. There will always be people with problems, and they will be the most vocal.

OI! Thats my phone, get yourself something else!!!
I recommend iPhones to most people only because most people I know just want something easy to use. Not that Android is easy, but Apple is easier and they can just take it into an Apple Store if something doesn't work. The support system is much better.
HOWEVER, the One X is a much better phone than anything else on the market!
short answer: yes
long answer: alot of yes
The choice is yours I've gone from dhd to the one x don't think I would look back either
Screen crisp clear
Build fantastic
Use smooth and quick
Really light weight
Yes there is reports of minor issues on some of them but its nothing major and will be fixed the only I have is battery life mine dies faster that my gf she got 18 hours out of first charge the difference is I'm a heavy user she isn't
The rest of reported issues I've not had

I guess U should. Since U are coming from desire.
But for me, the reason I got one was initially because of the "big" screen. Am using a titan currently and absolutely love the screen minus the lower pixel count. When I got One x, I was quite disappointed actually. I dun quite like the material used and the "bigger" screen. Its the screen ratio that actually turned me off.. The screen is taller but not really much wider than my trusty hd2. So, the "bigger screen is not what I had expected. Speed wise, blazing fast compared to my hd2. But, do I really need blazing? I guess not.. I can bare with a few millisec of waiting time. So, I am kinda disappointed tbh. IMHO.
Anyone had THE argument yet?
oops
Yes, but wait for the battery saving update coming and for some cases in the shops. My camera feels way to exposed to scratches so have ordered a clear back case which is 10 days away. Screen is amazing compared it to s2 and iPhone 4s and they don't even come close.
I came from HTC desire.

Don't you dare buying it! It's mine, my precious <3.
#Smeagol off
I'd recommend it, but if you are the kind of user who wants a flawless experience from the start = wait 2 weeks so all the bugs are updated.
My first few hours coming from a DHD I was sceptical because I was so used to the DHD and the Virtuous affinity ROM is amazingly smooth.
After 1 day I am completely loving the one x.
It's holding battery much better than my DHD with the same accounts syncing too.
The camera and screen are actually stunning, not just a turn of phrase. I was jaw dropped streaming HD and filming 1080p.
I actually prefer using my one x with headphones for media than my laptop and TV put together now
I recommend it.
Sent from my HTC One X
Honestly, no. Not yet.
I would wait to see what HTC do to address the awful battery life and overheating before buying.
If the reviews would have been more realistic, I would have been in a better position to judge.
Feel let down by the main reviewers, but then they did have an update that us mere peasants aren't allowed. Sketchy move from HTC if you ask me, the phone we get is not what was reviewed. Foul.

I can't help wondering why they chose to release an update that fixes a lot ONLY to the press... It makes no sense to me?

Clearly they weren't sure about it's stability/hadn't bug-tested it enough to release to all of their customers.
Should be out soon though

Because they needed to get it to them before the reviews were published, so that they'd reflect what HTC intended the user experience to be like before the handset was released to the public later that week.
Sensible though that strategy is, it sort of comes undone when you don't push that update to the retail handsets in time for them going on general sale. I imagine it was because the 1.27 update was a quick hack to fix the major outstanding issues that would be likely to turn up in reviews, whereas 1.28 would need to be fully tested before being delivered (because having effectively supplied a handset with pre-release software there'd be hell on if the first update didn't work perfectly), but it could still have been handled better.
YESS u should..but to each his own...
For the screen size remarks....
I`m coming from the DHD and the Sensation XE.
And i`m loving the new bigger screen.
The colors,..The sharpness it`s just a marvel
But again what works for one doesn`t have to work for all.
About the speed.....
Just lightning

Apart from the fact that in real world situations you'd never need to use a device in that manner i don't see any lag that is bad enough to warrant calling it a fault.
Maybe you just have too much crap, by crap i mean apps and games that run in the background.
My m9 has its moments but they are few and far between. Maybe you should have bought a samsung, touchwiz will definitely give you something to moan about (don't mean that in a nasty way).
Another pointer is that apps aren't yet optimally using 64 bit so the 8core thing is emulated by the device at the moment.
Personally I think you're being pedantic..
I wish I stole my HTC M9.

I did not installed any games on it. But today I have installed Asphalt 8 and real racing3 and it was lagging. There is somethings strange also my m9 at the 1st setup was having an orange theme not like the another htcs m9 phones have the blue theme, I was shocked when saw the orange theme. I didn't know if my device is m9 or not lol
