2) Does a Rooted HTC Desire has better multi-touch ? I seen a video comparing HTC Desire & Samsung Galaxy and HTC Desire seem to lose out ?
3) Are you able to play videos on FB on HTC Desire ? I have a crappy FB app on my WinMo which is useless.. hahaa
4) Any ex-iPhone JB users can share what's the pro & cons for both OS ?

Desire is the one
Hi,
I was / 'am' the biggest Apple fan out there, had all the iPhones and JB'ed all of them, thought what could be done on JB was brill....until I tried the Desire / Android which I bought because I was bored with the iPhone, expected to keep it a week and then fall back to the iPhone and sell the Android.
Well I ended up selling the iPhone and loving my Desire, everything you achieved by JB'ing the Apple you do out of the box with Android, then rooting it takes it to a whole new level of 'fiddling' and getting a config which you want.
Get the Desire, no question.
Thanks for all your reply..i'm inching closer to Desire soon ...
Just one last qns .. comparing the apps (not including games) is Desire able to match iPhone ones ?
currently on my mind i can think i need is audio translator..
I moved from WinMo (HTC Touch Pro) to a Desire. I was worried I would miss some of the WinMo functions but i dont !
Contacts copied straight across from PC using HTC Sync provided. I did miss the syncing with Outlook until i figured I could autoforward my account to a googlemail account and get the best of both worlds.
video is poor out of the box on the Desire but a quick download of Rockplayer brings it back up to (and beyond) WinMo video.
Games are much better for Android than WinMo (although maybe not yet on a par with iPhone for sheer volume of games - but how many games do you really need ??)
MS Office also worried me moving from WinMo but there are plenty of apps out there to sort you out.
All the stuff that you relied on chefs doing for you on WinMo you can do on Android just by downloading apps from the Marketplace.
Go for the Desire. I was dubious but Im now a committed Android groupie
I have an iPhone 4 (personal) and the Desire (work). If you are a casual user I would say go with the iPhone. If Facebook is a big concern I can say with confidence that the iPhone app is better.
IPhone 4 pros:
Amazing screen
Better keyboard (comparing to stock HTC sense keyboard)
Easier to use for the average user
Better battery life
Better multi-tasking (for the average user)
Desire pros:
More customization options out of the box
Better Google maps app
Better goggle integration (which I love)
I know some will disagree with me, but that is how I feel. I love both phones, and they both appeal to different parts of my personality. I think if you are not much of a tweaker then you are better off with the iPhone. Hope this helps.

I too am curious to your thinking. One thing I noticed from my friends iPhone is that when he brings up the multitasking thing at the bottom he can scroll through everything that's running as opposed to the 8 latest apps that the android shows. But I've never actually found it to be an issue personally.
Also in relation to the OT, I have never owned a iPhone (only my currently rooted Desire) but my friend who used to have a 3G and recently chose the iPhone4 over other choices says that while he is happy with how the iPhone runs, he does kind of wish he could customise it like I can with my Desire.

WTF, the Desire does have multi touch, you must be confusing it with Xperia X10 which has dual touch instead of multi touch as sony didn't want the possibility of being sued be Apple.
It should be noted though that Apple didn't invent multi touch.
I was using Touch Diamond with custom ROM for two years, Few weeks ago I switched to android (have choosen DESIRE).
I could not made a better choice. Not yet brave enough to ROOT it )))).
Really the phone is excelent, speed and UI is great, customization possibilities are as good as I was used with WM.
Flash is also working without any problems, so is multi-touch. Even iPhone 3GS users were impressed ))))).

It is a well known fact that the Desire, unfortunatelly, doesnt have proper multi-touch. It has a somewhat refined dual-touch ability, but in games, it has some issues here and there. You can see it downloading a simple app from the market for touch testing. Thats the only thing im somewhat jealous of the other multi-touch phones (galaxy s, iphail).
But the only thing im jealous the most about the iphone is its scratch resistant screen.. that makes me cry every time i realize that our screens are made from glass only.. :/

Let me preface this with the fact that I am running both of these devices in parallel right now. Also, I have 5 of the desires in production in our corporate network (which I am in charge of troubleshooting)
As of yet, the Android doesn't have a way of naitvely handling the problem of multitasking for the average jo-blo. "dl this app, then every now and then check to see if apps are open, otherwise your battery will drain" Is what I find myself telling users.
This is not that case with the iPhone. Multitasking battery savings is done automatically for the average user.
I know that most people reading this are power users, so closing out of tasks is no big deal, however, this is an enormous task for the average user, and I really feel that Apple has done an awesome job with the whole multitasking idea, and have made it very easy for the average end user to use the phone.

Hi,
I disagree! I do absolutely nothing to "manage" multi-tasking on my phone and suffer no problems with battery.
In contrast, the vast majority of iPhone apps don't multi-task at all anyway, so I can't see how it can be better.
Regards,
Dave

The iPhone's method of showing what apps are running is nicer and it is a pain to have to download an app just to see what is running on your phone. But on the Desire you don't actually have to go closing everything. Apps running in the background do not drain battery while sitting idle. Using apps like Advanced Task Killer should really only be used to close problem apps, not to constantly shutdown everything that is running.

As of 2.2 we have a "sort-a" built in task killer so no need for 3rd party stuff... as for your other claim, indeed the apps dont drain battery at all (well..not as much..) so i really dont get it when people say that background apps drain battery and what else.. i dont have any battery drainage whatsoever, and if i dont use wifi at all, my battery can last 2 days easily...

Hello there.
I've waited few months to retire my old HTC Desire and purchase a new device, for few weeks ago I've been waiting the release of the HTC one X but now I've been reading some topics about issues and problems that the owners are suffering...
So here is my question to the One X owners, would you recommend the device to your best friend?
Thanks

Read back to the comments on DHD forums when that came out. Same with the Sensation. They both had teething issues for some users, and I don't regret getting either. There will always be people with problems, and they will be the most vocal.

OI! Thats my phone, get yourself something else!!!
I recommend iPhones to most people only because most people I know just want something easy to use. Not that Android is easy, but Apple is easier and they can just take it into an Apple Store if something doesn't work. The support system is much better.
HOWEVER, the One X is a much better phone than anything else on the market!
short answer: yes
long answer: alot of yes
The choice is yours I've gone from dhd to the one x don't think I would look back either
Screen crisp clear
Build fantastic
Use smooth and quick
Really light weight
Yes there is reports of minor issues on some of them but its nothing major and will be fixed the only I have is battery life mine dies faster that my gf she got 18 hours out of first charge the difference is I'm a heavy user she isn't
The rest of reported issues I've not had

I guess U should. Since U are coming from desire.
But for me, the reason I got one was initially because of the "big" screen. Am using a titan currently and absolutely love the screen minus the lower pixel count. When I got One x, I was quite disappointed actually. I dun quite like the material used and the "bigger" screen. Its the screen ratio that actually turned me off.. The screen is taller but not really much wider than my trusty hd2. So, the "bigger screen is not what I had expected. Speed wise, blazing fast compared to my hd2. But, do I really need blazing? I guess not.. I can bare with a few millisec of waiting time. So, I am kinda disappointed tbh. IMHO.
Anyone had THE argument yet?
oops
Yes, but wait for the battery saving update coming and for some cases in the shops. My camera feels way to exposed to scratches so have ordered a clear back case which is 10 days away. Screen is amazing compared it to s2 and iPhone 4s and they don't even come close.
I came from HTC desire.

Don't you dare buying it! It's mine, my precious <3.
#Smeagol off
I'd recommend it, but if you are the kind of user who wants a flawless experience from the start = wait 2 weeks so all the bugs are updated.
My first few hours coming from a DHD I was sceptical because I was so used to the DHD and the Virtuous affinity ROM is amazingly smooth.
After 1 day I am completely loving the one x.
It's holding battery much better than my DHD with the same accounts syncing too.
The camera and screen are actually stunning, not just a turn of phrase. I was jaw dropped streaming HD and filming 1080p.
I actually prefer using my one x with headphones for media than my laptop and TV put together now
I recommend it.

Honestly, no. Not yet.
I would wait to see what HTC do to address the awful battery life and overheating before buying.
If the reviews would have been more realistic, I would have been in a better position to judge.
Feel let down by the main reviewers, but then they did have an update that us mere peasants aren't allowed. Sketchy move from HTC if you ask me, the phone we get is not what was reviewed. Foul.

Because they needed to get it to them before the reviews were published, so that they'd reflect what HTC intended the user experience to be like before the handset was released to the public later that week.
Sensible though that strategy is, it sort of comes undone when you don't push that update to the retail handsets in time for them going on general sale. I imagine it was because the 1.27 update was a quick hack to fix the major outstanding issues that would be likely to turn up in reviews, whereas 1.28 would need to be fully tested before being delivered (because having effectively supplied a handset with pre-release software there'd be hell on if the first update didn't work perfectly), but it could still have been handled better.
YESS u should..but to each his own...
For the screen size remarks....
I`m coming from the DHD and the Sensation XE.
And i`m loving the new bigger screen.
The colors,..The sharpness it`s just a marvel
But again what works for one doesn`t have to work for all.
About the speed.....
Just lightning
CF Benchmark
23839, 6010 , 13050
Antutu
11524
Monjori
38 FPS
Nenamark 2
48 FPS
So the CPU goes like a bat out of hell
The GPU at the moment is the same as my Sensation XE ( adreno 220 @ 320Mhz )
Batterylife looks to be OK.
But when u stress it it takes a lot of juice.
The companion core works perfectly cause the standyby hours are super
Im a note owner, Im pondering either to buy a new note or change to the HTC One X. I have tried to search on Youtube, but no review matched my will. ( Got some scratches on the screen, and that's why I'm willing to change )
The note has a real good battery life, lasts a Full day with Medium/Med-High usage ) - But it does have an Over-Heat issue, whatever game you play? It will start heating from Minute 2 !
From your experience HTC One X users, can you give me any advice? How's life with HTC One X ? The Note is a really nice device ofcourse with it's own disadvantages
Unremovable battery is not an issue at all to me, but just wondering what happens if something freezes out while flashing or while using? How can we go back to point 0? On samsung simply, unplug/plug the battery. My only concern.
P.S : Not starting a Brand Fight like on other threads I've seen lol
i love mine, and i truly believe that if you get a perfectly fine one then its one of the best handsets you could own, it does burn hot sometimes when playing the heavier games, but its nothing to worry about really
the phone itself is hard coded to shut down after holding the power button for about 10 seconds, and it will always do this no matter whats happening on the device
overall, i prefer it to the note, camera fantastic and the tegra 3 games are a blast, even if gamesloft haven't given it quite the support that is should have, but that apparently all coming soon

Thanks for your reply! And Uh finally some words that makes me feel better about the Unremovable Battery thingy - Hoping to hear some more opinions
i bought mine today and i'm fully satisfied! it's fantastic! sure, it's not perfect: i can't say nothing about battery yet but i prefear removable one, no s-off yet, no sd... but 32gb and cloud can last me, and it's f**king hot when i'm play games (but it's good for winter )!
i love design and form factor... i think it's one of the most beautiful smartphone ever. i hope nvidia will release source soon.
when i first got the device, its the BOMB! i love ONE X! about the heating issue, i had it before when everything is still STOCK, but right now, after installing latest ROM (i use CHARMELEON & franco r-9 kernel), the issue has been resolved... even if i play heavy games, like SHADOWGUN THD, the heat is within normal, also the battery life is much better!
i went from a note to the one x. i would prefer a smaller screen size say 4.5", but it fits better for me with 1 handed use. I miss the awesome battery life I had on my galaxy note as battery life isn't too good right now.
I want to buy HTC One X
Hi guys, I have a question or few questions.
I want to buy the HTC One X(International) one month before my contract expires because I want to play with it before I go to AT&T. so here are my questions.
1. Can I root my HTC One X without sim card and no carrier contract?
2. Can I also install or flash custom rom without sim card and no carroir contract?
The reason that I ask these questions, it is because I am a noob for rooting and flashing roms. I have never done these stuffs before, but I am currently researching a lot.
That is why I want to know the answers to these question before I buy it.
Thanks for the helps guys, I really appreciate your answers

I don't know how well I can describe, the phone freezes sometimes when having multiple apps running on background. Would it be the phone specs that I have only 3GB and 32GB storage? After freezing a while, the phone shows system ui not responding.
What should I do for that?

I think this is just lack of Nokia optimising the software on the phone. I'm just waiting for someone to make a room for this thing cuz it pretty sucks right now.
Hi there. I bought my girlfriend this phone about a month ago due to a nearly glowing review on The Wirecutter. She's having the same problem, but she's not familiar with XDA so I offered to post here for her.
Is this an uncommon problem? I am not seeing any thread about intermittent System UI crashes on Nokia 6.1.
I think it depends on what apps you use on it. Hardware specs on this phone cannot handle everything. If you only use the camera in Whatsapp it allready csn hang. That's my main issue the camera. For the rest its ok.. maybe you need a high end phone.

I don't have any lagging, hanging issues with the phone, but take my opinion with a grain of salt since i have the 4GB/64GB version.
It seems like August patch is somewhat more optimized than previous version. I was stuck in June security patch then jumped to august, so i can tell that there were improvements..

with a task mgmt apk and close those that use a big amount of ram like those that continuously update like FB. Also reboot your phone very once and a while to refresh the OS
I run into this issue pretty often on TA-1045. Not sure what's causing it, but its to the point where the phone is almost unusable as a daily driver if you use your phone for important calls/messages .. I'm hoping the September update will address some of this, but I had a more reliable experience with my very old Nexus 5X running Android 8 compared to this
---------- Post added at 04:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:02 PM ----------
Also, I run into this issue with 1GB RAM free
Hello guys ! Same issue here , 3/32 gb. I can honestly say at this point that because of the lack of optimization the phone is a piece of sh*t. Literally, I cannot use it as a daily driver , I only have installed FB and messenger, what's app and 9 gag. I don't need use anything else. I don't use the camera . The phone just freezes and it's unusable for a minute or two. It freezes randomly , when unlocking when trying to make a call or when opening a ****ty app. TBH I wouldn't buy a device like this again .. my GF has the p20 lite , not bright at all but far far better then my 6.1 . If pie won't fix this I will just hammer the phone and throw it to garbage.
I think to say that this phone runs this way due to limited hardware is just coming up with excuses. My 2015 Moto g runs Oreo and everything else better than this phone and was $80 cheaper. My 10" tablet with a Snapdragon 400 series with 2gb of ram has none of these issues either. It has to be something not working correctly in the ROM. I really hope that pie fixes things, if not then eBay will be. To be fair lagging/freezing happens about 25% of the time. Camera freezing happens 90%, no system UI crash. Whats really ****ed up is how no review says how much this phone sucks.
The same freezes on my Nokia (TA-1043) waiting for custom roms... Nokia software is crap

When I asked about sending it to warranty they said again to wait for the next update . I said ok will do that . I agree they dont seem to offer real solutions. My main problem is the laggy camera. But if indeed android pie does not help. I am selling it to.
If it IS the ROM an "update" can only do so much and cant reverse system flaws inherent from the manufacturing process. It also doesnt help that the OS uses 2 Gs of RAM. Anyone know if the X6 has the same problem?
I have a TA-1045 (bought in USA) manufactured July 2018 that came pre-installed with Oreo 8.1 and I do not have any of the freeze or lag or whatever. If yours was updated from Nougat maybe you can factory reset it so it will clean everything in data and system/application preferences?

To fix camera freezing try turning off location for camera in app settings and also in the camera settings.
The freezing has become unbearable. I can't believe how bad this phone is now. Such a shame, may need a new phone if not resolved soon.
