I can call people and receive calls on my phone but no one can hear me and I can't hear anyone. I don't even hear a tone when it's dialing sometimes. I'll call someone and they'll answer and it will just be silent and vice versa on both ends of the call, I'll receive a call and it will be totally silent. I have already gone thru all the troubleshooting steps I can think of even going as far as to have my carrier send me another model of the same phone and getting a new sim card they have made many tickets on this issue and have deemed its not network related. Below I have attached 3 log cats of the issue. Sorry they were to big to upload to XDA directly. So here are 3 links to the downloads. The issue is happening on stock non rooted knox isn't tripped

What ROM are you using?
What mods are you using..
Please be more specific..
I was using the Hulk Kernel on the Google Play Edition ROM..
and I was playing with the Faux Sound mod, and it killed all my sound..
Uninstalling the mod corrected my sound issues.. It may not be your issue, but that was my example..
I suggest flashing to STOCK..
BTW those links are ENCRYPTED!
If you can use a video call app like Tango or Skype and you have sound it will most likely be the sound chip not connecting to the modem and using WiFi for voice /video transmission.
Time for a replacement phone.

please when you guys build a new rom, please please please do not remove the tmobile name i.d app, since this is causing problems on all roms out there!!!!!!!!!!
Problem: If you are in a call!!! And if you recieve a second call, and try to answer, , the phone automatically will cut the signal on both lines, and will take you back to the home screen,, this is a serious bug, and all of you are removing this app(t-mobile name id app from your roms) , please do not remove this app!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Solution: Do not remove the tmobile name id app from your roms!!!!!!
and this msg is specially for this user: Allgamer: You delete my treats all the time, i dont know what the hell its your problem, im just trying to let everyone know about this issues, you always delete my treats and always leave me a link on the bottom( which are not from the same topic of what im talkin about) so read before deleting treats, and probably you will get more "thanks" on your xda profile'
NAME ID APK DONWLOAD:
Oooh treats! I want one...... J/k im sure the devs are aware bud

Wah Wah...here it is.
Maybe your threads are being deleted because they're poorly written and whiney. Take 2 seconds, maybe use spellcheck, then click submit. It's not that difficult.
And as an aside, I've removed that apk from my stock rooted rom, and haven't experienced the aforementioned problem.

I do that all the time with my family and clients, and so far I don't have any problems like you described. Honestly I tried that last night with 2 different ROMS, Phantom, and Juggernaut, and no problems at all with setting somebody for hold and call somebody else.
it could possibly be a problem with the default phone.apk, and most devs just use a different apk for the dialer app, bypassing the problem. Or it's just not an issue.
we need more confirmation
because i ran a test on my own phone and it doesn't drop calls
when i call myself from a land line, and then from another cellphone or another land line i can swap between the 2 calls just fine
to me it sounds more like a reception problem, or user error, cancelling the calls by accident?
It happened with me, so i installed CWM and rooted the phone. Still on stock ROM i removed a bunch of T-Mobile apps including Name ID. After one of the members posted this issue here and i tested and got the same result. Finally after installing the Name ID app i was able to do multi calling. So i do not know why this is not same for everyone.

this only happens when you remove the caller id.apk from the system, also most of the roms dont have this app included so for somenof us installing a new rom its uselesss. even if yoy flsh the zip founded under development(bloafreee) you will get the same issue
The claim you make in this thread is so far off base. The apk your talking about is bloatware and is no way needed to make the phone operate correctly. As I said when you suggested this in the rom thread, I've never had this problem. And as far as I can tell neither has anyone but you.
Sounds like your device is to blame

My wife and I are stock and we are having issues receiving calls. Is this a known issue with this phone?
If you are 100% stock, you may want to call tmo.
Have you done a hard reset? Does calling over wifi work?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
yeah we are 100% stock. It's hard to tell if we miss a call on or off of wifi unless they leave a voice message as some calls go straight to voicemail. I'll try a hard reset. My wife tried calling me six times and I didn't even get a missed call. Same thing when my mom called me.

try flashing the stock kid radio in my previous post
what radio are you running?
It is interesting that in the last week there are at least three threads dealing with missed calls. Is there something going on in common? I have found that I was only missing certain calls from certain numbers. 100% reproducible. If I call my cell from my work phone AND the work # is stored in my contacts, then I do not get the call. It goes straight to voicemail. But if I remove the number, I get the call. Add the number back and I miss the call.

Well I havent rooted the phone yet - as if this issue continues, i dont want to void the warranty as I can try for a replacement. I am not sure once I root - can I do something to make it look clean and not void warranty!
If there is any suggestions - I will definitely try it out

Hey guys and gals. I've been active in the Sprint GS2 dev forums for over a year but this is my first post in the TMo section. I just bought my wife a new TMo GS2 that had never been activated. It already had the UVLE1 ICS update on it. When she calls me (or anyone else) her voice sounds muffled and there's what sounds like background noise when she is speaking. When she isn't talking, the background noise goes away. Just wondering if anyone is having this issue. She never used the phone with GB so we don't know if it has anything to do with the update. I told her tonight to try a factory reset to see if that helps and I was also considering flashing back to stock GB with Odin. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated

I know it. Skype quality is very fine. But the normal calls are a so bad. Open the call window -> go in the option menu and de/activate the (i dont know the word in english) "Noise suppression". Test both. After the change it should working correctly.
You can check your microphone. Do a test call with skype or some other internet call app.

Thanks. Last night I was at work and told her to go into her phone app, open settings, and look for a noise suppression option. She said there was no setting for that. Maybe she's looking in the wrong place. I'll try a Skype call to see if the Mic is ok. I might root her phone and flash some modems to see if that helps, too. I can flash older GB modems, right?

Thanks. Yes I've now seen where this topic has been talked about quite a bit. I was on Tapatalk when I posted and it does a lousy job of searching. The stock ICS update doesn't have the noise suppression feature. I've downloaded the files I need so tomorrow I'm going to root the phone with Zedomax's Odin method, flash CWM and Superuser, then try different modems.
First I want to say that I tried to Google my issue but with not much of a help.
I have a galaxy s4 which I'm facing a Regular phone call problem, when I try to make a phone call using the network I won't be able to hear the other party and the other party won't hear me as well, but when I use wifi calling, Viber, Vonage the same speaker and ear pierce works just fine
or when I use my Bluetooth device ( while making a regular call without the wifi calling) I can make a normal phone call with no problem. I think it's a software issue but I tried to format my phone and downloaded different roms and the issue still exist so can you please help me

You need to give WAY more details on what you've done to try and fix this to help us rule things out.
Have you done a full return to bone stock 4.2 Android using Odin?
What version of Android are you running? What other roms have you tried?

Ok this is what I've done so far, I rooted my and used WICKED 4.2 rom and DARTHSTALKER 4.2 rom, but the issue still exist. Then I used a backup that I have from another S4 and thought maybe that will help. but also nothing changed. Then I unrooted my phone and put it back to stock rom for 4.2, and sent it to Samsung ( I did make sure to remove the trace of it been rooted), Samsung refused to fix my phone because it has a small crack on the screen and want to charge me $200 for changing the LCD, so I refused and sent it back, so When they sent it back I updated the software to 4.3 hoping that it might fix it, but still no regular call can be done. I again rooted my phone and I'm on CyanogenMod 11
I'm gonna try to put WICKED V8, and see what might happen.
another think I want to ask. can it be that the modem file is corrupted and I need to redownload it into the phone using ODIN?, if you think that might be the problem where can I find the .tar file?
I guess I covered everything, if you have more questions let me know

That is wacky. Issues like this tend to do nothing but piss you off because they make no sense at all and all logic you'd apply to fix it is out the window.
Nothing about what you are saying makes any sense. I'm not saying you are decribing it wrong. I'm just saying it makes no sense. Expecially the part about Samsung not fixing the speaker due to a crack in the LCD. That is what is so agrevating abotu problems like this. So believe me I understand how frustrated you must be!!!!
I mean you know the speaker works because it plays other sound. You know the phone makes calls because it works with the bluetooth. So this SCREAMS "Software issue".
I'd Odin it back to complete 4.2 stock firmware. Do a search, there's a thread around here somewhere that has the .tar file. It's either in the general or q and a forum. That's the only thing I can think to try. That will overwrite the existing modem you have as well (though I don't think that's the issue)
If could be that you have gotten something messed up that flashing new ROM's just isn't overwriting. But if that's the case an Odin restore to stock WILL fix it. If Odin doesn't fix it, I'm completely stumped.

Hi everyone,
I know that alot of users asks for this question but I really search for an answer but I didn't find a good one.
I recieved a T-mobile galaxy s4 and immediately rooted it and installed a new rom (Insane kit kat)
But after short time I understood that my calls not always works as they should.
After two calls suddenly I stopped to hear the other side and the other side stopped to hear me.
I tried a few times and sometimes the call was good and sometimes not.
I asked on the Rom thread and they told me to switch my modem to nb4 and i did it... but the problem remains....
I also switched the kernel to KT but also... still no luck...
And today I also switched the rom to Resurrection Remix and it worked for few hours but the problem returned and stayed....
So someone got a good idea to what should I do before I take the device to a lab..?
And I hope this thread will help otherslike me that got the same problem...
Thanks!

So.... I returned back to stock, at the first attempt the WIFI didn't worked so I flashed again and then I started to make calls... but..
after few good calls the problem returned again...
In my opinion I really think that the problem is in the software and not in the hardware because I can make some regular calls.
The sim is brand new but the cell company that I belong to is working with roaming only and based on other cell company network...
I'm really hopeless.. it's really sucks....
any more ideas?

You mean a "hardware" problem? If you returned to full unrooted stock and you calls are still messed up you have 2 choices....
1. Return it for warranty purposes.
2.ReRoot and run a custom rom again just to make sure.
Other than that, I'm outta ideas

I know this is a long shot but have you tried shooting canned air into the mic and speaker, or using a headset? Canned air has fixed two mystifying problems for us, and it seems equally likely that this random behavior is caused by hardware.
