I came from an iPhone and when I got texts and emails my screen would wake to see it on the lock screen.
I am getting these notifications but my screen does not wake. I've even tried apps like Glimpse Notifications and my screen still does not wake.
Any ideas on a setting I am missing? Shouldn't it behave this way without an app? Over on Reddit a couple of T-Mobile users says theirs does it by default. I'm lost.
anyone? 62 views and no one has an idea?
Try going to Settings/Sounds and notifications/Notifications on lockscreen a.nd see if it is enabled. Not sure if this will help or not. Good luck.

Thanks, honestly I think it's a Sprint thing at this point. I've tried everything. Every setting.

This works, now I just need a better email solution to do the same. I think Aqua mail will suffice.

I'm having a notification issue I was wondering if anyone else might have experience with. I use handcent, and I'm getting double notifications for some reason. I've used it for a long time and know how to turn off the factory settings, and they are! I just don't understand why the damn white envelopes keep coming in and two different tones when the notification us clearly turned off.???

Are you positive that the receive box for the default MMS app is unchecked? Double check, also try clearing defaults. This is all I can think of as of the moment

EVERYTHING is unchecked, I'll try clearing defaults though.
I even thought about just removing the stock messaging app, but I read some where that will cause problems.
Silent mode is seriously silent and I have vibrate on silent selected. There's no way I can seem to get the phone to be able to vibrate. Any suggestions?

I had this problem. Sound Manager, found in Market, is your answer. There's a hidden sound setting where your vibrate has somehow turned itself totally off.
Obvious I know, but check your vibration intensity (Menu, Settings, Sound) and make sure it is not set to 0.
I have bonsai 4.0.1 and have always had the problem since bonsai 3. Email, calendar and text notifications stop vibrating. Will have to restore via nandroid to make it work again. Very annoying.

What do you have your haptic feedback set to? I think what happens, is if you set the haptic feedback to 0, then it will stop all vibrating functions as well. Might want to check that and see what's going on.
I read this solution elsewhere, but it may have been for a different problem.
I have haptic all the way up, vibrate on everything, nothing works except another restore.

Have you tried sound manager?
Market Link
It exposes sound and vibrate settings that can somehow change, but you can't access them otherwise. Solved this problem for me.
Yep, didn't do anything for me. I actually used to use that app for regular use too. I think I have a gremlin.

Sorry, didn't know "vibration intensity" was the same thing as haptic feedback.

There is a vibration test you can do from the dialer to test if your vibrator is working:

as the title states, I would like to know if there is away that I am not seeing to disable the screen illuminating when I receive a notification (sms, email.. etc)
I don't like this feature, the phone already tells me via audio notification that I have received a message and I think it is a battery drainer (not matter how minuscule) I'd like to have some control over this...
With my screen off, it lights up when I receive a message and I would like to disable this function. I already have LED notification turned off...
I hope I was able to communicate my desire
Thanks in advance for your help

Oops, you got a free thanks. The way I dealt with it was to install Handcent and then disable the stock messaging application. But I'm on US Cellular and I'm not sure how much different our phones are. Handcent has MANY more features than the stock application as a perk also.

That is an alternative yes. I would like to keep the stock app though because it's been my experience to have lots of problems with third party messaging apps. For example, I am unable to use MightText while using some third party apps. Sometimes the apps update and have FC closes afterwards.
If you didn't mean to give me a thanks, can't you take it back... I mean if you really wanted too, don't get me wrong, I'll take all the thanks I can get!
I'd also be interested in this..I find it super anoying.
Edit: Gave in and installed Go SMS with a GSIII theme.
here's a solution if anyone is still looking for one

The notification noise (for texts, and I don't know if it's for anything else) just runs forever and ever until I actually open handcent or the stock messaging app. I've looked through settings and don't see anything that clearly says it'll turn that off. How do you do that?
All my notifications only ring once. Is it handcent? Are you on a certain rom?

stock ROM
it only happens to texts. it happened before and after I installed handcent. it's annoying and weird
In your text app Go to Settings> Message Alert Repetition where you can adjust how often it will notify you.
Something Experimental...

I already turned off notifications in the stock texting app so it was like I don't have it installed without actually uninstalling it. I'll see if it's one of those things that magically goes away on its own after a while.
Did you try looking at the settings in Handscent for the same type of setting?
Something Experimental...
Yeah :/
Yep, your not alone. I have the same issue when using GoSMSPro. As best as I can tell this is an issue when you use a Third Party SMS app. FYI: I am on a custom ROM and have the issue. If I uninstall Go SMSPro the issue disappears.
Hi everyone.
New to this group.
Just got the Note 4 a few days ago. Wondering if anyone knows if it has the capability for screen to wake up on text message??
I have my phone on my desk at work, but have to have it on silent. Would like the screen to turn on if I get a text but can't figure out how to do this....
Thanks!

Actually other variants do this out of the box (and it cannot be turned off) I'm thinking its a setting somewhere hopefully in the sms apk. I'll root around and see if I can find anything (doubtful) but if other carriers can do it we should be able to get it to our own devices.
