My fiance has a Galaxy Note II that was registered with either Telus or Bell (our friend let him borrow the phone until he can get his own) and our network is with Wind Mobile. I looked up on whether or not it's compatible and supposedly it should be but there has to be some "adjustments" on the phone. One website mentioned Odin and QPST but we don't know exactly how to use those programs to change the network to AWS. Is there anything else we can use or do that is much simpler or at least simple enough to understand with proper instructions, preferably one that doesn't brick the phone, unless specifically detailed about how to unbrick the phone, because again, the phone belongs to a friend of ours and we are giving it back to her when he gets a new phone. Thanks!

Our simchip is for wind mobile, what we're looking to do is be able to connect to the wind mobile network but his frequency network is not AWS which is what he needs on the phone to be able to connect to wind.

I am wondering if anyone has tried this? and what happened.

It sounds doable. If the phone is compatible as is, you may just need to unlock it to get it to work. You may need to try some different modems though.
There is some guy on kijiji that does it for 20 bucks. Yet I have no clue what he actually does lol

Simple answer Yes but it's very annoying to do.
The device itself 100% supports WIND's Network to it's fullest BUT the SGH-1747m has the bands required Specifically the 1700Mhz disabled in the NV RAM
http://anhsblog.com/how-to-enable-t-mobile-hspa-aws-bands-on-att-galaxy-s3-sgh-i747/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2344627 (For my bell phone being updated past which version this guide was wrote for the code in this guide does not work you must use *#0808# )
One you follow that and reboot you will be on Wind's Network... but at least for me every time it reboots I lost access and the NV RAM resets...
What I want to know is there a ROM out there or a way to permanently rewrite the NV RAM so I never have to do this
Samsung is putting responsibility for this 'disabled feature' on the Telecom companies saying it is up to their discretion on what bands they allow. Yet bell is saying that it's up to Samsung one which bands are allowed as Bell does not do any modifications to the NV RAM. Whose telling the truth who knows.... Samsung did hint that it is possible to put permanently enable the baseband (but I would have to speak to bell) Now the funny thing is if I give Samsung the IMEI of my device (which was purchased at a Bell location) Samsung is making a statement that my SGH-i747m is NOT a registered Canadian Galaxy S3... and it MUST be an international S3.... Yet bell has it as it was originally their's and Sold by them and originally activated on their network.
I don't know why but I feel like the SGH-i747m's have some hidden backdoor deals with them has anyone tried to install Wind or T-Mobile ROMS from the T999L to the SGH-i747m and if so was it successful? or is there a Custom ROM that will work?
Just a *bump* to this, if there is any way of not having to plug into a laptop to reflash the NV to re enable functionality with wind will someone please share? I've read of some people having scripts that run in busybox or other similar type areas
Can anyone please share with me said script and walk me through the necessary means of implementing it correctly so my girlfriend stops whining at me every time her phone dies demanding I fix it, even though I've offered to show her how to click the mouse twice and do it her self.
Hi,
Is there a way yet to make the 747M fully operational with Wind Mobile? Seems like SOMEONE should be able to figure this out for us.
In your guys' opinion, if I flashed a ROM for the T-Mobile device, whats the worst that could happen? Soft brick or hard brick?
Would flashing a T999 modem be enough?
No Wind network after restarting my galaxy s3 (i747)
Hi, have you yet figured out how to permanently rewrite the NV ram on a galaxy i747 so that the phone recognizes the Wind network even after the reboot? Thanks in advance.
I haven't. I ended up getting an S5 through wind.

Hi, have you yet figured out how to permanently rewrite the NV ram on a galaxy i747 so that the phone recognizes the Wind network even after the reboot? Thanks in advance.
so i just got my SM-900W8 for Wind mobile today, had to buy it with two months service, but then was able to send half of the money i put down on that service over to my old account, switch the sims, and now i have my same old number and plan on my new note, and i'm only out an extra 20 bucks (still bull****, i know, but i wanted it today and wasn't going to deal with waiting, for any reason.... maybe too impatient lol)
anyways, after i bought it, i stopped by the bell store and asked what model they sell... they showed me the box and it was the exact same model number... SM-900W8. i then went to rogers, same thing, and telus i presume will be the same since bell and telus share towers etc
so, my question is, if i unlocked my phone, could i simply go get a bell rogers or telus sim card, and throw it in, and have it work? the region issue is a non-starter for two reasons - first i didn't even have that region lock sticker on my box, but second, the robelus sims would all be the same region, so it shouldn't matter in the least. what i'm wondering is, would the bands be the same, or at least some of the same to the point of working? i know that wind uses AWS bands and robelus does not, but since they are the same model number, is it possible that they have radios that are compatible with all four carriers in this phone?
if not, can someone explain to me how to find out what networks this phone would work on? i mean, it sounds like people are unlocking their tmobile phone and using it on att, and from what i remembered, att is not aws, and i thought that rogers and att phones worked together... ARGG what gives here?
also, are the tmo phones the same model number as mine? or did they use different phones than wind this time around?
finally, if i'm looking to root this or put a rom on this, am i looking for the tmo roms and other stuff like i was with my sgs3 or am i looking for something else with this new phone? where can i find this info... i haven't been able to find much about this yet, i guess not many people have this phone on wind yet

Thanks for the answer, but I don't know for sure what bands the big three use, can anyone tell me if this phone will work on those big networks?
Also, any answers to my other questions ?
Rogers, Bell and Wind all use the SM-900W8 variant probably with just a different modem / QCP file.
So does this mean that there is some chance of, in the future when things get cracked, of flashing a new modem etc onto it our something

to answer my own question, yes, i unlocked my n900w8 from wind with an unlock code, and i was able to see whatever networks were attached to the sim i put in it. rogers, bell, telus, koodo, virgin, fido, wind, probabaly chatr if you really wanted to use this device on that dumb ass carrier
so yes, you dont even need to flash other modems... it just works
i did try flashing bell/rogers/puerto rico roms on my device and all had the same result, it all worked, and it all worked fine
Samsung galaxy note 3 SM-N900W8 from videotron (canada)
Hi, i have a Samsung galaxy note 3 SM-N900W8 from videotron (canada) and i unlock with a code to use it with fido and the phone show only the 3G internet, is there a way to enable the LTE? when i go to setting mobile network, network mode show me only 3 options WCDMA/GSM (auto connect) or WCDMA only or GSM only. I tried to root the device to do like this forum said ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2489766 ) and when i root it it says pass but it stuck on rebooting and something red is written on the next line and samsung logo is there too. anyone can help me to enable the LTE network?
AT&T Samsung S3 won't receive 3G, 4G on Cincinnati Bell network. Bell is a GSM network. I purchased an unlock code for the phone because AT&T said it could take 10 days to receive an unlock code from them. The unlock codes are different. Is it possible that the AT&T code would open up the software for use on another network, or is this a hardware issue? Bell says APN settings are correct. Is there a mod or software fix? Would using the AT&T unlock code fix this issue?

Baseband is I747UCUEMJB. Running JB and I just updated to 4.3
Thanks for the input.
Did you run a speed test to make sure you're not getting 4G speeds?
I have never heard of a phone that could be carrier unlocked by using different codes.

Checked my speed, running pretty consistently at 2G, occasionally E.
What I meant by the unlock code statement was that I initially utilized a code I purchased to unlock the phone. AT&T stated it would take up to 10 days to get an unlock code after they confirmed my contract was completed. I use the phone primarily for business. I am self employed and could not suffer the down time. AT&T did release the code, but it took them over a week. My question then was, would I have the same issue (not receiving 3g or 4g signal under the new carrier) if I had waited for the AT&T unlock code? Another way to ask this is, does using the AT&T code (my original carrier and who I bought the phone from) unlock features (radio frequencies perhaps?) that the code from the unlock service does not?
Thanks again for your input.
I have never heard of or come across a situation where a carrier unlock code enabled or disabled such a network feature such as LTE.

Is there a software fix then to get the right radio freq (assuming this model is hardware capable)? Not sure where else to go with this.
Grab a friends SIM card and place it on your phone...do a speedtest and if you get LTE then might be the carrier and the location you are on that does not get LTE

It's not something that can be fixed via software. You checked the APN settings?
Is it possible to activate a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini (or regular S4) on US Cellular's network, specifically for their pre-paid service (which is now, thankfully, allowing 4G phones)? How about the S4 international edition? I've done a lot of searching and I haven't found anything definitive, though some people have mentioned something about the LTE bands being different and therefore incompatible hardware-wise. But considering that (as far as I know) US Cellular phones can roam on Verizon's network, I'm not understanding why it wouldn't be possible. Could it be as easy as inserting a US Cellular SIM, or are the radios or other hardware different?

your best bet is to find a us cellular edition i think its the r model
verizon wont let you unless you get the unlock codes from them'
its not as simple as a sim swap with verizon devices for the most part,
phone needs to have been unlocked for it to work

Well, I'm not going to go and buy a Verizon phone in the hopes that it will work on US Cellular; that's why I posted on here for confirmation to see if anyone has been able to verify this before I actually purchase anything.
is it any different going the other way? can I port a US Cellular S4 to verizon?
Hey,
I just ported over to Cricket Wireless because Verizon was just taking way to many hacks at my wallet. I've ran into a few snags I was hoping I could get some help with.
1. Every time I boot up my phone, it says I don't have a Verizon SIM card. Yep, I get that...I'm not on Verizon any more. Is there a way to make the phone understand that?
2. As I understand it, Verizon LTE phones only use 2 bands, while GSM phones use 4 bands...or something like that. Is there a way to unlock the other bands on my Verizon phone? It seems like they would be there, but locked out, right?
3. I tried to search for a firmware update, but encountered an error. I was expecting this. When android "M" does come out for my phone, how am I going to do the update?
4. Now that I'm not on Verizon, is it possible to flash ROM's?
Thank you for any help you can give me, folks.

I can't exactly answer questions 1 and 2, however,
3. When Android 6.0.1 comes out for the Note 4 SM-N910V, you will have to flash with odin when a tar comes out as you are not able to use OTA unless you have a Verizon SIM in the phone. If you still have your old Verizon SIM, you can use that, update, and then switch back to your new SIM if you'd like.
4. Unfortunately, no. Your phone still runs Verizon software and relies on it. So if and when any root method or bootloader unlock method comes out you will need to use the method for the N910V.

For question 2 try downloading 4G LTE Switch on the play store. Try changing your preferred network type but test texting and calling to make sure it works correctly. If that doesn't work I'm pretty sure I heard people bring the phone to Verizon to get it "unlocked" to use overseas. Not 100% positive about that though.
HI Hope this helps.
You will need to root device to access service menu, from service menu you can activate locked out bands.
You can use temp root with Kingroot this will allow you to access the locked out service mode on the device. Once in service mode you should be able to activate locked out bands.
