Is there anyway to root the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 4(SM-N910P) with out Tripping KNOX? I have tried towel root and it is not supported. Any help would be appreciated
Chain fire auto root then install twrp through the ROM I think. I just flashed through Odin though
I believe there is no way not to trip the knox if you root. It is a permanent change. However sprint will honor the warranty as long as you flash back to stock.
Damn, one can only hope. And when I had my s4 and I tripped knox. I had a SIM card issue, and they said sense it was tripped there is nothing I can do.. sorry about your luck
I had my s4 and it lost all audio in the headphone port somehow and I was running slimrom at the time. He wanted to see my phone and he asked if he could install root checker, of course I said yes. But said one sec let me check something, went into the settings and disabled root that way. He did his thing and then fixed my phone. When I turned in my phone, I am on the easy pay thing, it was still rooted and Knox was tripped. After I had my new phone and was ready to walk out. I asked him about it. He said he didn't care cause it gets shipped out and they wipe the phones and reinstall the factory image.
I guess it just depends on the tech that's helping you.
My screen had a bit of dust under the screen, I was rooted Knox tripped and had the screen replaced no questions asked. Like stated above just depends on the tech.
Shouldn't have posted this here and needs to be moved.
Does the sprint exchange work if you didn't buy it at store ..? Bought mine at bestbuy

Hi all,
I'm heading over from the Evo4g finally. After tearing through these forums, I wanted to confirm what I've been reading. My plan is to throw TWRP on the phone and try out a couple of roms.
From what I have read, installing TWRP will trip the KNOX flag no matter what method is used. Correct?
I bought this device off craigslist and it is fully paid off. I don't have any sort of warranty on it. It doesn't seem like tripping this flag matters in any way to me whatsoever. Is there anything I cannot do with the phone or with t-mobile service after tripping it, or is it purely a warranty thing?
Thanks
If the phone isn't warrantied you can do what you want.

Correct, flashing a custom recovery will trip the flag no matter what. The only thing that won't work afterwards is the Knox security container, which most people want gone anyways.
That's what I was hoping. Thanks.
I'm thinking of upgrading from my GS3, non lte, to the Note 3. As I've looked around the forms here, it would seem as though Knox is an added security measure so t-mobile can more easily detect root?
Is there a way to have root without tripping this counter? Is there a way to flash a custom Rom or kernel without tripping it?
If this has been answered apologize, I did look around before making new thread.
Thanks!
Also on a side note, white or black note 3?

Knox isn't really for T-mobile to detect root/custom firmware but for Samsung warranty. A fair amount of people on here have stated that they still sent their phones in to Sammy for warranty and they still got their phones fixed. T-mobile really only look for cracked screens, water damage and that the phone powers on and boots up. Not to say you'll never have an issue but i would say it's not really that big of a deal to trip the Knox counter. Especially if you bought the insurance like Asurion. I don't think they even care if your rooted and ROM'd
Awesome. My concern here is that I would be disqualified from the jump program... I'd like to get the Note 4 as soon as it comes out.. Is there currently any way to root and flash a room without tripping Knox? Or can we only root without tripping Knox?
Before this gets locked, yes you can root without tripping knox. As mentioned knox is for samsung to deny repairs if they see fit (if the phone is sent to them). Tmobile could care less if the phone is rooted or not. You just have to be careful about warranty repairs for samsung, thats what they may or may not look at.

On the old 4.3 firmware yes you can root with Root De La Vega and not trip the Knox counter but once you put ANY custom recovery it will trip the counter. Now on the OTA 4.4.2 that was released on Wednesday, the only 2 current ways to root (TWRP or Philz CWM) will trip the Knox counter no matter what. So until something comes out like an updated ROOT De La Vega, there's no way to even root without tripping the Knox counter.
Also from what i read, RDLV isn't being developed anymore so unless they decide to do something with it for the all the 4.4.2 releases hitting phones these days there may not be anything for a bit to root without tripping knox.

That is true for 4.3 but so far you can't on 4.4 from everything I have seen. Do you now of a way to not trip knox on 4.4?

Did I miss something? Is there a way to Root 4.4.2 without tripping Knox? I don't care I've tripped Knox the first night i had my N3 but I didn't think there was a way. Kningo and RDLV i thought borked the phones and caused bootloops.
My t-mobile store says that if you root your phone then it voids your warranty, so obviously they won't allow me to upgrade... So I know they check for it.. How is it you guys have stores where they don't seem to care?
I need to root my tablet so I can use a few apps I like. I had it on my Samsung note 10.1 2012 and used triangle away. Not really looking for a rom, at this point I like stock ROM.
Any help please?
This has been answered a 1000 x before. Knox flag will trip and no known way to reset.
I have already rooted but have since noticed an issue with my display and I am past the return date for Best Buy. Because I have tripped Knox, I will not be able to send it in to Samsung?

You can always send it back for repair. Whether the repair cost is covered by warranty will depend on your local laws and or willingness of the service center. Just return it in official status and "play dumb"
Triangle away won't work?
Nope... it wont work on knox... will only work on normal counter.

I didn't bother answering only to repeat myself again. .....
I too would love to root but don't want to trip Knox. Samsung are real bastard for introducing it. Too bad the only capable hacker Geohot sold out and works for Google patching exploits now...

What about this towel root thing? It says it roots without tripping Knox, is this true?
please read... towel root no longer working on new release since geohot = the guy who make it are now working with google to patch those exploit.
Just now, first time reading about this Knox bit. I just this morning purchased from Best Buy a Galaxy Tab S 8.4" tablet. Going to old habits, I immediately look to a rooting method, and what some of the more popular ROMs are. But just curious on feedback, should I be worried about this Knox bit? If I ever have to return to stuck for a warranty claim, are they immediately able to tell that bit has been flipped? Does flipping the bit really lead to potential overheating and other issues?
Thoughts?
Well.. Someone claimed that they got warrenty repaired even if knox was tripped. And it was a power button defect. And someone else said that they still had to pay since they tripped knox.
So its a 50/50 chance that samsung will repair your tab s if knox is tripped. I too was worried. Rooted and tripped knox and had no hardbricks so far. Twrp and odin saves me from softbricks but odin can fail sometimes.
To answer your question: knox being tripped doesnt do anything it just trips an efuse and say that knox is tripped. It doesnt overheat or nothing. If you return it for warrenty claim they can tell if it was tripped. Some may not check some do. Hope this helps!
That does help, thank you!!!
I have two more questions:
1) If I have a hardware failure I can't fix myself, can I still pay to have it fixed by an authorized Samsung person? I understand it just wouldn't be covered under warranty.
2) It's not clear to me if it's tripped on whatever rooting changes (guessing so), or if it's when ROMs are loaded. Assuming it's rooting (which must typically bring new kernel?), does anything thing there's a chance that if we hold out that someone will find a rooting method that won't trip it. I stumbled across the Galaxy Tab Pro section and I see they claim to have a rooting method that doesn't trip the bit. So wondering if I suffer without root for a while if we might see such a thin here? Mind you, I know no one is a fortune teller.

1. If they check you tripped knox and denied your warranty claim, I belive they will ask you the option to pay for the fix. Though I cant be sure as thats what I heard but im pretty sure.
2. Well cfautoroot flashes root and reverts your recovery back to stock. Um.. With the towelroot method of not tripping knox... For the tab pro you downgrade your kernel/build. Though no one has tried downgrading their kernel to like a build before towelroot was patched for the tab s.. I dont know if it will work for the tab s.
I dont even know if we will see a universal root like towelroot. Geohotz is working for google and isnt updating towelroot for newer devices. But there is a huge bounty for rooting the note4 or something like that. But the chances of it working for other devices are pretty low. Hope this helps!
Hi,
So this question is more aimed at the folks living in the UK.
I've recently had to start using my girlfriends old Samsung Galaxy A3 due to my Galaxy S5 dying on me. Because she knows that I have a real big liking to rooting all my phones and then putting custom roms on it, she has said that I can do it to her old phone so long as she can sell it to CEX after I get my new phone.
Only problem as you guys know is that when a custom recovery is flashed to the phone the KNOX flag is tripped from 0x0 to 0x1.
My question is this... If I were to root and flash a custom rom onto the phone, and then once finished with the phone, reflash the stock rom and recovery onto it, do you think that CEX will take the phone despite the tripped KNOX?

I sold em note 4 last year (2 years old so out of warranty) with Knox tripped. Wasn't sure if they would take it or not. I never mentioned Knox being tripped. I restored it to stock tho before i took it. They never said anything.
You can ask or just go through the sale process an wait and see.
