Hello All,
For those who are planning to switch to ATT prepaid accounts, beware that starting next week ATT will be releasing their new prepaid "4g" packages which are kind of improved.
I've only the confirmation of one package which is for 65$ unlimited voice and text and 1GB data (so you save 10$ since you would be paying 50+25 before).
I am not sure if there will be any improvements to the existing data package limits though.
Also for new smartphone users, it's NOW double hard for them to get unlimited data on 50$ plan. ATT is ABLE to detect your IMEI number whenever you plug your sim into a new phone. Although for international users, it will not show up as their exact make and model but they WILL know if it's a smartphone or not (they now treat it as a smartphone if the make and model does not show up).
Just wanted to share an insider knowledge with those who need it.

Sorry about opening in the wrong place. As an unlocked phone user i felt like this might be more interesting to unlocked phone users since usually att s3 phones have post paid contract phones.

No worries,
we just felt the information would be more relevant to a larger user base who is using AT&T as opposed to the international community where the AT&T users are a minority
I don't suppose this will finally allow for LTE access on prepaid?

After 20 restarts on my gs3 . SIM not valid. I called att and talked to a representative and gave him my IMEI and. Boom he told me: ok i just linked your sim to your galaxy s3 . Only call and text. Why would you spend all that money on a phone that has 4G and not be able to use it. Just seems ridiculous to me. You won't be able to get data working on a $50 gophone data plan. You have to get the 65 dollar option.

I agree, data will be slow for HSPA+ standards (i dont think it is hspa+). prepaid data isnt supposed to work on smartphones unless u purchase their separate data which is edge speeds.
prepaid is great for everything except data. if you find yourself on wifi the majority of the time then its not a problem.
My s3 running prepaid 50 unlim everything. Including 4g data no throttle.

This might already be common knowledge but I didnt see an answer when I searched this forum but..
Does Wi-Fi calling use rate plan minutes? It says here http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1680 that it does (I believe), but in which situations would it NOT use rate plan minutes? Is there a way to modify my note 2 to not use rate plan minutes when on wi-fi calling?
On this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1655086&page=4 they say it does NOT use rate plan minutes so I'm a little confused.
Thanks in advance!

If you are in a contract monthly plan the Wi-Fi calling is free and does not use your rate plan minutes. You have to activate the feature first, by calling tmobile or through your account online. Your Wi-Fi calls will show up as using a different pool rather than your 500 or whatever amount minutes.
This does not work on prepaid.

So your gps can pick up satellites indoors? According to their website it uses plan minutes. I've learned not to really on anything customer service says, they are pretty clueless. Technical support read from a script and just repeat back every word you say and just say I am sorry. I usually have better luck troubleshooting without them. They tried to get me to make an insurance claim because I had dust accumulating under the screen and a warranty. They sent me a refurb with a chewed up SIM card slot.
Maybe I am wrong but I have been told over a dozen times in the past year by them that it uses plan minutes.

As an employee of T-Mobile I just wanted to set the record straight and let everybody know that wifi calling does indeed use rate plan minutes. The reasoning is that even though the voice call is being routed over the internet it still has to eventually go through T-mobiles towers and network before it reaches the final destination (receiving party) regardless of the carrier. This is a common question that we get from customers regarding billing inquiries. WiFi calling is a free feature, in the fact that we do not charge extra for this service. Like other carriers in additional hardware. However, WiFi Calling is subjected to the same terms of service as utilizing a tower.
(Ex-500 anytime minute plan pricing with unlimited tmobile to tmobile & nights and weekends at no extra charge.)
The only way to protect yourself from overages besides monitoring those minutes is to get the unlimited anytime minute plan or the new unlimited any mobile feature, to ensure no overage surprises. Know its wordy but I Hope it helps.

Yes, you read it right!
I stopped by a T-mo store today to look for a case for my wife's phone
and I know very well the sales person.
He told me that T-mo replaced the free 500 MB tether (on Unlimited data plan),
with free 2.5 GB without any additional fees !!!!
He changed that option on the spot for me.
You can do that yourself on T-mo website, or just walk in the store like I did.
Enjoy!:good:

Edit: fyi there are also non rooted methods of tethering whether or not you have unlimited data.
If u have the hotspot on your account the ps3 will be able to pick up the tether and use the data.. Just not when u don't have the hotspot on ur account and ur doing a hacked tether to use ur unlimited data it won't work.. I've been using TrevE Mod WiFi Tether for the longest on my GS3 stock rom/rooted. What's the difference with the Note 3?
So does installing this app work perfectly on a t-mobile note 3 on an AT&T network without AT&T catching you tethering without paying?

WiFi Hotspot is included in most of share AT&T plans. You don't need root for this. BTW unlimited plan will get throttled at the 22GB limit.

The new unlimited plan is only offered to Directv or Uverse customers and it does not include hotspot. And yes they will throttle after 22GB but only during high congestion. Sprint has also implemented this(at 23gb). Verizon will soon offer an unlimited again and throttle(at 22gb) during high congestion as well. Legally on unlimited plans they can only throttle if the bandwidth consumption adversely affects there network, ie: during high congestion. A ceo from at&t said they would only throttle if it was absolutely necessary, so you are not going to just get bumped to 2g-3g speeds as soon as you hit that threshold.
So back to the original question.
