Hey,
it's a bit difficult to find a stable Sense (7) ROM without any stupid bloatware. Every ROM I install has social network plugins for Sense I do not want to use, HTC apps I will never use and which are spying on me and unnecessary other crap from Google.
Which ROM has all these apps removed on default so I can get a clean Sense experience? I want something slim, stable and fast.
Best Regards
What is useless bloat is subjective. Most devs will not make the decision for you (to remove what they consider "bloat"), for the reason that a slew of complaints ("But I use so-and-so") are sure to result. But some of the ROMs (I've only tried Skydragon myself, as far as Sense 7) give you the option in the AROMA installer to uninstall most (if not all) of the non-critical Sense and Google apps.

should i delete all the HTC Sense stuff if i want to install a different launcher such as LaucherProPlus or ADW? If so, what files should be deleted?
Would i get better performance with all the sense stuff uninstalled?
Thanks in advance
there are some scripts on here to remove all the sense files. make sure you install and set the other launcher as default before you remove the sense launcher.
i personally use LauncherProPlus, so i'm using only maybe 10-15% of Sense on my phone, but i haven't uninstalled any sense components and i get great performance? that's my experience anyways.

You do not have to delete the Sense stuff to get those to work, they actually are not compatible and block it anyways. Deleting the Sense/Sprint stuff will not give your phone better performance. Those things are basically just taking up storage space if you aren't using them.

thanks both for the reply. In that case then, does anyone know of a ROM out there that has ALL the features of the EVO, such as 4g, camera, wireless tether, etc. But just doesnt have htc sense?
your best bet if you want a "senseless" rom is to pick any sense rom and runt he script located in the post linked in my signature.
It will remove sense all the htc, most known ok to remove apps and most of the sprint apps.
There is also a tool linked that will allow you to change the script easily if you want to keep some of the apps etc.
The only true roms that have no sense are AOSP and none of those have everything working just yet, so this is kinda the best you can get for now.
Fairly new to android (me and linux go way back so I'm not completely in the dark), just bought a used rooted desire running Froyo. (S-ON for now). I have a couple of questions for people who know their ****:
First: Not being such a fan of HTCsense (Too many screens, for one), is there a way of removing it leaving me with the plain vanilla Froyo interface and not having to wipe and flash a new rom?
Second: From your experience which rom would you recommend? Oxygen looks rad, but still has a bunch of issues it seems. I want something which is #1 - Stable and supports all the hardware. #2 - light/stripped/I choose the stuff I want installed on my phone?
Am I right to lean towards vanilla froyo, as a good compromise at least?
Cheers
Stu
1) You can remove the HTCSense apk file and it will uninstall it. You won't be able to use any of the HTC widgets like. I do think you need S-Off to do this though.
2) The least buggiest I would say are CyanogenMod. Seems the most stable and bug free rom out there. Have had problems with other roms. Also MIUI-Au is a lovely rom to use. If you want, you can remove the system apps from custom roms before you flash it.
Hope this helps.
good evening all
i want to know is there theme for ( ROM Pays-ROM Defy v5.1 Froyo 3.4.3-11 )?!!
and how do I install it ?!!
thanks in advance
i think that I use rom not used a lot here ?!
my rom 5.1 and i want to know also
Pays rom it's the most used for beginners, i think (It was my first custom rom), because it have all apps that the normal users will need.
I don't think that there's a theme for it, but you can change your launcher, this will really change the look and fell of your phone (i'm using zend from barebones, you can try go launcher ex (reaaallly good), adw launcher, he launcher (simple, my second choice) and many others.
If you really are concerned about the visuals, try
http://modmymobile.com/forums/640-motorola-defy-roms/561387-rom-jboogie3-blurginger-4-9-2011-a.html
It's the best rom i have seen, beatiful. The only problem is that it's a Blur rom, so your system will be bloated with useless apps that will drain your memory, cpu and battery. But i think it's the best rom around, really, try this.
I'm using barebones 1.4 now, because i like my system clean, with only the apps that i use.
Hey Everyone,
I was reading up on the Cyanogenmod 7.0 and after being intrigued by what i saw I am thinking about switching from Leedroid and I got a few questions:
1.Is Cyanogenmod noticeably faster and can I expect any differences in battery life?
2.I never had a non-sense rom,how big are the differences? Are there replacements for the Sense Weather Clock Widget (I love that thing )
3.When I flash CM,at which point do I install the google apps?after a full first boot?during the same recovery session as the installation?
4.when i install apps from titanium backup,is it necessary to delete all the htc apps from the list of apps to be imported?cause i backupped all system and user data and i am wondering if sense-related apps may cause trouble with the new rom?
5.Might there be an even better Gingerbread Rom out there that I am missing?
thanks in advance, looking forward to checking out cm7 soon
Answer for 2 questions:
Battery life: it should be the same or a little bit less if you flash a kernel with good battery gestion. I tested all 2.3 roms here excepted CM 7, and in comparison to Leedroid, i never had the same battery life
Rom to recommend: Redux
Incredible rom, ready for daily use, clean, google apps in the rom, and cpu gestion is available in settings. So perfect rom for me in 2.3
1. Yes its faster than normal sense based ROM. Battery life depends on kernel you use.
2. It depends how much you are used to sense base ROM. You can find free app in market for clock widget best is fancy widget for HTC like clock.
3. After you flash CM in recovery itself you can install google zip file from SD card. Doesnt really matter if you do after 1st reboot and go to recovery again.
4. From titanium backup just restore missing app with data. not the system data. That will save all the trouble (always do that)
5. You can checkout Gingervillian. Which is CM7+few things. So basically basically CM7 only. Otherwise check Oxygen which is bare minimum ROM if you like that and build everything on that. I think those 2 ROM are most popular.
Additional tip:- Dont forget to take Nand backup before trying any other ROM. Good luck.
Thanks for all the answers, running cm 7 now and I love it so far

thats a good idea
May i ask what bothered you with Leedroid? As longtime Defrost user i actually thought about switching to the senseless leedroid, as Gingervillain has still too many bugs and problems for me and defrost starts being pretty outdated in some things.
Im not a noob with rooting and different roms and stuff. But is there anyway to take parts of roms and combine them and make a personalized custom rom with everything you want on it? like for example can i take the mms.apk from a sense 3.0 rom and put in on the CM7 rom or an ultimate droid rom?
Definitely possible, .apk's should be easy to transfer over.
This is off the top of my head, but you should be able to extract the ROM .zip file, find the .apk you want, then just put it on your SD card and run it using a file manager or terminal emulator (harder to use).
As always I would suggest you fully backup, when you're doing stuff like this it's experimental, so it's very possible the mms.apk will not play well with your current ROM and may force close. If that's the case, it may need other files to run (those files would be in the original ROM) and that would become a project that I wouldn't be able to help you with. You would then need to really, merge those two ROM's together in order to get that .apk to work.
Even so, I'm not sure on how possible it is as some manufacturers like HTC make it extremely difficult to use their app's without having an HTC Sense ROM.
Yea i tried that with root explorer and it didnt work the apk wouldnt install im now guessing thats because it was a sense app and isnt compatible with my rom. But yea i was looking into finding out how to combine roms more in depth like that. but i guess thats out of both our leagues. thanks for the help though
Take a Sense 2.1/3.0 hybrid ROM and run the Senseless script, use search to find it. See if that works for Sense 3.0 Messaging on AOSP feel

I wrote a desensitize script for SkyRaider 4 (Sense 1.0) found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13667433&postcount=8499
I have NOT tried it on a sense 2.1/3.0 rom, but it will work as long as the file names are the same. Do a nandroid backup before you try it though, just in case!

Sense MMS apks will definitely not work on CM7 because it needs dependencies from the HTC frameworks, I would try what others have suggested and try to get a Sense rom and in other words "DeSense" it by removing some of the HTC apps. You can also try running CM7 and installing a 3rd party SMS app from the Market (like GO SMS Pro) if you are not happy with the Stock Android SMS app.

Took the words right out of my mouth lol

ok is there a way i can desensitize the rom on my computer or i have to do it on my phone? and now my next question more into how to combine roms is say for example i like the sense 3.0 unlock screen is there anyway that i could use that as my unlock screen but then keep my ultimate droid rom the way it normally is?
Not sure about desensitizing but I do know you cannot use a sense 3.0 lockscreen on an aosp rom. Although if you're wanting a fancy lockscreen, I'd recommend MIUI, or widgetlocker (works on any rom).
