downgrade from Lollipop (5.0) to Kitkat (4.4.2) - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I have a question, I have rooted N900T, and upgraded to Lollipop FOB6 by using Odin CF method.
before using Odin, I backed up my KK rom.
my question is, since the bootloader is updated on the 5.0 version, if I want to downgrade to my previous kitkat rom, can I flash my previous backed up rom through twrp recovery? or the process will break the phone?
what if I do a complete wipe and flash 4.4.4 through Odin? I've heard since they're different bootloader, I can not downgrade.
plz help

I downgraded down to 4.4.2 NK3 Kitkat last night from 5.0 lollipop using Odin on the PC. It worked perfectly fine with no issues. Not sure if you can restore your Kitkat backup though. I would suggest doing a clean install with the 4.4.2 NK3 tar file found here on XDA.

thanks for the reply, I think that's the safest way.

Sure do your backup via twrp or your choice of recovery, save your kk rom to it in a backup. Then do the same in your LP rom. I do this with all 3 OS roms B6 kk rom, Alliance 5.0 rom and resurrection remix 6.0.1 rom it just takes a few min to do in liu of the restore time it takes.

[Q] Roms for 4.3 rooted phones?

Finally got Superuser installed and TWRP recovery working - Ran the Knox script. What ROMS will work with the new 4.3 OTA MJB besides slimrom?
I understand that if I update the ROM it shouldn't include a bootloader that is why I am asking this question???
Also since I have been using the stock 4.3 my battery is draining like a sieve. Anyone else having this issue?
Thanks,
Any rom designed for the d2att should work as long as the ROM is compatible with the bootloader.
Ok would any of the 4.3 or higher roms work?

Yes. The 4.4.2 ROMs I tried work with the 4.1.2 bootloader too.
but i have the 4.3 bootloader.

Look at the updater script of the ROM to see which bootloaders are supported.
where is that located. Also have you tried the quantum 4.4.2 rom?

I haven't tried that ROM but I have tried Cyanfox and Validus, both of which are based on 4.4.2. I think all ROMs will work with your phone's 4.3 bootloader.
The updater script is located \Meta-INF\com\Google\android\
Ok. I have the same concern. Rooted 4.3 att stock rom. I wonder if cyanogen rom 4.3 or 4.4 would work?

You should install a custom recovery first, then install a custom ROM.
Another question: Does the modem affect the rom in any way? I am on MJB from the last OTA update. I am just a little nervous because now that I am on 4.3 I cant use ODIN to flash the old stock rom anymore. All I have is a Nan backup of the current stock rom from ATT.
Yes. I installed cmw touch when I rooted. BTW I flashed CM11-M3. Working fine. But my GPS is screwed since I went back to stock 4.1.2 via Odin.

You can install an older ROM by using mobile Odin since mobile Odin does not flash a bootloader or modem.
mobile odin is 5 bucks. is there another alternative? I saw mobile odin lite but I was not sure what kernel to use? I have twrp recovery installed. is this a good recovery to use?
Quantum & Quantum Kernal
Quantum and quantum kernal are what I've been using since the first day I rooted me phone.
I recommend using them if your looking for a fast energy saving 4.4.2 KitKat rom.
I also used Odin on my PC to do my initial root/bootload/ROM etc. I'm sure you can Google and find an installer. Its what I did.
By the way Quantum is Spectacular!!!!
---------- Post added at 03:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:45 PM ----------
Install ClockworkMod 6.0.4.7 before any custom ROM!!!
It allows you to backup your current setup and recover to you working setup if needed on bad flash.
I also recmend the ROM Manager app from the play store it helps a lot.

Have you looked at PhilZ Touch 6 Recovery CWM Advanced Edition 6.x. This looks like it is replacing the current CWM. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201860. Do you have any thoughts on this?
What version of ODin are you using? I have never tried this method except for restore my phone back to factory image. Which now looks like we can no longer do?
As for Quantum I was unable to locate a link where to download this ROM from on the XDA site. There is only a link to the changelog not to the rom itself. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2390147
Also thanks for responding to me. I just want to make sure I know what I am doing before I do it. I really dont want a brick.
I went to stock 4.1.1 before i went to 4.3.

The MJB bootloader in the official OTA 4.3 will prevent you from using an older bootloader. Odin .tar files of stock ROMs prior to 4.3 include bootloaders, installing them will brick your phone. The MJ2 bootloader from the leaked version of the 4.3 update will allow you to go back to 4.1.1 or 4.1.2. I have seen one mention of one of the devs using a difficult way to revert to older stock even after having the official 4.3 bootloader.
There is not a Odin .tar for the OTA 4.3 but enewman17 has provided a method to return to it from a custom ROM. AT&T I747 UCUEMJB Stock Restore

4.4.2 bootloader can't be downgraded. If you flash older bootloader, you will run into trouble.
If you want to jump back to 4.3, install Mobile Odin and flash the firmware. It flashes everything except the bootloader.
Press thumps up if you found this suggestion helpful.

Mobile Odin works without failure if you follow the procedure correctly.
Stock ROM (tar) and Custom ROM (zip) based on 4.3 bootloader will go into bootloop. There might be a way to get 4.3 custom ROM by flashing img files for 4.3 kernel, modem, etc., without flashing the bootloader. But you will be flirting with danger.
Also, 4.3 custom ROMs lack support these days. The developers have moved to 4.4.2.
It is advisable to stick to 4.3 stock Rom or use 4.4 Custom ROMs.

[Q] bootloader question

Im on stock image 4.3 with root. I just installed TWRP 2.8.6.0 version for 4.3 . As I was looking at the rom's the majority of them want me to be on bootloader 4.2 or 4.4 before I can use the rom. What is the safest and easiest way to get there? the last time I modded a phone was with my HD2.
sorry for the noob question. I have been out of the loop for a while.
Thanks
Freak
If I goto sammobile to download N900TUVUENK3 and flash it with odin would that give me the boat loader I need? also would I need to upgrade twrp at that point? is there a document that covers this? any help would be appreciated.
Yes just be total stock 4.3 then flash the N900TUVUENK3 rom using odin and you will be able to flash any 4.2, 4.4, or 5.0 rom available. You just have to be 100% stock to do it including recovery. After you install the new rom then you can root it and install any custom recovery you want. Thats what I did. Revert to total stock, flashed the NK3 rom, rooted, then installed recovery. After that you will have a 4.2. bootloader and will be to install any rom out there. Hope this helps you out.

installed a new rom, restored a twrp backup of previous & now stock kernel wont work

installed a new rom, restored a twrp backup of previous & now stock kernel wont work
Hi All,
I picked up my note 4 Feb of this year and i've been running 5.0.1 stock with it since then. Only change was to root it and install twrp.
In an effort to try and resolve some signal strength issues i thought I would try updating to a more current stock firmware. So i went ahead and downloaded HYBRID_OB7sbl_SPT_N910PVPU4COG5. This installed fine but I had to install the beastmode kernel to root it.
Didn't help with my signal strength issue so i thought i'd just go back to what I had running previously by restoring the twrp backup i made just prior to installing the updated rom.
I can no longer run that backup unless I am also using the beastmode kernel. If i restore the twrp backup i get a bootloop at the samsung screen. Can someone help me sort out why my twrp backup no longer works unless i'm using that kernel? Or how to get it working using the stock kernel?
Currently under about device this is what it's displaying (running the twrp restored backup and beastmode kernel):
software version: N910PVPU4COG5
hardware version: N910P.05
baseband version: N910PVPU4COG5
kernel version: 3.10.40 beastmode freeza
build number: LRX22C.N910PVPU1BOB7
I'm not sure what i changed/did that causes restored backup to keep bootlooping if i'm not using beastmode kernel.
Ultimately I would like to be running the latest stock firmware but rooted.
Thanks in advance for any help
You should still be on the OB7 Bootloader, that being the case;
Odin the stock OB7 tar to restore to full stock OB7. Be sure to protect your backup that you are trying to restore. Copy it and any other files you don't want to lose to your computer before you Odin the stock tar.
Reroot/Install TWRP and then restore your backup. You can download the tar from kies i believe or one of the threads on here in the Android development threads.

OB7 is the android 5.1.1 update? Just to be clear - the backup i'm trying to restore is android 5.01. Just want to make sure if OB7 is 5.1.1 there's no concerns going from 5.1.1. to 5.01
Thanks for your help

* HELP * How To Update SM-T210r (Rooted + TWRP) from 4.1.2 to 4.4.2 +

Could somebody please post instructions, or info on how I can update my rooted SM-T210r currently running 4.1.2 to 4.4.2 or maybe even something newer . . I would like to do this without losing Root, TWRP, or any of my data, if that is in any way possible . . OTA methods would be prefered, Thanks.
UP? Same scenario only with T211.
Do you want stock 4.4.2 or a modded 4.4.2? I've got a modded stock ROM you can check out. (I'm still trying different things so I haven't officially released the ROM, but would love a tester to give me feedback.) To first upgrade to stock 4.4.2 go to SamMobile website and download the latest firmware for the device. (I believe it is Canadian.) Then flash thru Odin. Then you will have to reflash TWRP. Boot into TWRP and make a backup. After your backup is complete it should ask you if you want to root the device.(Flashing new firmware you will lose root.) After that If you would like to see what my modded ROM looks like pm me.
