The HTC Connect app on my M9 doesn't show the lttle screen icon in the top rigtht corner, which allows to send stuff to TV; speakers; car stereo etc... any idea how to get it back... I'm not a fan of gestures... use three fingers to wipe etc... I'd prefer the simplicity of the icon...

I just upgraded from a SPV m1000 (Himalaya) to a SPV m2000 (Blue Angel). I know I'm a little late to upgrade but I just thought I would share what I thought of it:
PROS
- Navigation pad - it's a lot better, with the m1000 I kept hitting the wrong direction because it was small and circular. The 4 buttons above the navigation make one-hand operation more possible.
- Bluetooth: It now comes with Widcomm BT as standard so you can send files and join a BT network. I tried getting the Widcomm stack to work on the m1000 but I couldn't get activesync to work. On the old MS BT stack activesync kept failing for some unknown reason, on the m2000 it works fine.
- Built-in Wifi: A lot more convenient than having to constantly swap SD cards. Also I suspect using the Socket BT driver pushed the m1000 too near the 32 process limit so Skype's VoIP didn't work properly. While voice quality on Skype on the m2000 isn't perfect the other person is at least comprehensible.
- 43MB flash RAM: The m1000 only had 14MB which was probably enough. It only occured to me recently to store all my documents in this area to avoid data loss if the main RAM was wiped.
- Slide down keyboard: Should make writing emails faster, though I'm still getting used to it.
- Higher capacity battery: gets you through the day. Sometimes I would be out of juice by the end of the day on the m1000.
- MMS is built into the email application.
- Pocket Internet Explorer now renders pages without horizontal scrolling which reduces the need for alternative browsers like NetFront.
- Screen Rotation: While there was quite a good utility for screen rotation available on these forums for PPC 2003, the one in SE is faster, the apps re-render better and the navigation pad is also rotated.
- The audio socket is on the top of the device, though there is an awkward rubber "stopper".
CONS
- It's slightly bigger and heavier but you get used to it.
- The email application takes a little longer to load which can be annoying when you want to quickly see the last couple of SMSes.
- The power button is on the right hand side which is a little more awkward, though it does stop you from accidently pressing it when you shove the device into your pocket.
- The volumn slider isn't as easy to use - it's nearly flush with the surface.
- Case: Isn't very good - you have to take the device out to use it. The m1000 case fits the m2000 but you will still have to take it out to use the slide down keyboard.
- Headphones: Has only one button to answer calls instead of answer and reject buttons on the m1000.
OTHER INFO
m1000 PPCTechs Sync n' Charge cable should work with m2000 though you will need to get a new audio adapater if you want to use 3.5mm headphones.
Thanks for your comparison,
Was thinking about upgrading my M1000, but I think I'll wait for the SPV 3G to come out unless it's going to be ages! I do love the M2000 though, my mate has it and he loves having a better phone than me...
I upgraded from the M1000 to the M2000 about a month or two ago, and im very happy, there are a few "CONS" as with any device you buy, but i think the "PROS" totally see over this and make it a much better PPC than the M1000....
Markh - just one thing, about the headphones(handsfree) only having one button as apposed to the M1000 having two, It actually is a whole lot better in my view, cos now you dont havr to look at which button you pressing to pick it up, there is now one button to "pick up" and the same button to "put down".... no more worries about pushing the red one when u want to pick up...
Pros:
Keyboard
Wi-fi
Looks better
Specs look better on paper
Cons:
Battery is appauling
Appaulingly slow and unstable
Rarely works for calls (in a variety of ways ie you won't even notice it's crashed as it looks fine and the PPC functions work, but you get home at the end of the day and have tonnes of messages from people saying your phone's turned off / the no sound (no connection) problem experienced by 77% of users.)
SPB Pocketplus (the only 3rd party app I really used) makes a bad phone perform worse
Most of the extra features make it crash (ie. the screen rotate)
Almost anything makes media player skip as the phone can't handle it
Screen has a yellow hue
Crappy headphone adapter
Getting your sim out is a b!tch
Volume slider is awkward
IR port is on the side so IR keyboards won't work (even if you rotate the screen) so I need to buy an expensive BT one
Disabled BT in 'beam' option: although BT 3900 fixes this for file manager, the pictures app suffers. You can no longer choose the picture to beam by looking for the thumbnail.

I'm thinking of flashing oxygen again this weekend - on leedroid at the mo
Is there a google car home app for oxygen? as i use my desire as a sat nav alot and need a sat nav application to launch when i attach my official htc car dock
secondly
can you link facebook to contacts?
so their profile pics appear next to their name in texts?
like in htc sense
hi,
1) don't know, i use the google maps navigation feature and that's about it. Never felt the need for a carhome-like app.
2) yes, just install the official facebook app.
(3) for texting, I recommend handcent over the basic android app)
ps: don't forget to alpharev your partition table so you get loads of space for apps and don't have to enable a2sd feature which can't be a damn nuisance !
so when i attach my phone to car dock - google navigation will launch automatically?
I have no idea, i don't have a car dock. I just plug in my phone into the car cigarette lighter socket and off I go.
What's the big deal anyway in having the phone launching an app on its own when docking in ?...
hi
just saying prior to rooting - when i attached to car dock it launched google car dock home
and it was fair sweet - could navigate to, call, listen to music etc
all from one app
any other answers for this question?
Get Google Car Home from the Market
Nandroid, full wipe, flash oxygen and see for your self.
If it fits your needs keep it and if not restore the nandroid.
Definitive answers and a great feeling of accomplishment for doing something yourself.
Well, I finally received my home and car dock with the POGO pins. The audio is absolutely wonderful being routed out of the POGO. I had the Captivate and that doc through Sub-mini USB and the audio output was horrible, so this is great.
Here are my questions which I could use some help with.
1. What are the dock settings for in the settings menu? They are never active when docked or not.
2. How do I get my Nexus to default to full bright screen always on when docked without adding another docking app. I have always run into having multiple apps on for helping to get the right settings during dock and have the step on each other and ultimately things not getting reset properly when not docked. This seems that these two settings should be a setting in the std ICS settings.
3. While dialing the dialing screen pops over to portrait rather than landscaped like everything else while docked. It makes it hard to control the screen and read the screen.
I will continue to add items to share with everyone as we dockers become more prevalent.
You can use an app like tasker to change to a certain profile (brightness up) while docked. I am going to use NFC tags when I get my car dock.

Yep one of frustrations with the one x tbh. You may get it to work by disabling Bluetooth, then turning it back on and then in settings / Bluetooth make sure you hit the settings icon next to the Bluetooth device and then enable the media connection by tapping on it, though it probably reports connected anyway.
Then back in music, select player and again try selecting the car.
I have to fiddle back and forth with these settings 4 or 5 times before I get mine to work, and should at any point in my journey my stereo turn off even for just a minute (filling up with petrol) I have to go through the whole process again.
It becomes a total exercise in pure frustration... Sometimes even when it reports connected, you go into music and press play and then you can even see it fail to connect meda wise on my car audio (a little icon indicating media connection drops completely)...
Nightmare..
Yet it remains connected for phone calls, so it has to be something to do with the music app, beats integration or such..
In the past 18 months I've had a Nokia Lumia 800, Nokia N9, iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, blackberry torch 9860, blackberry bold 9900, HTC sensation, HTC sensation XE, and a galaxy s2..... None had any issues with streaming audio to my car as well as Bluetooth calls. The HTC One X is the only phone I've had with this issue...
If there was one reason for me to get rid of my one x, it would actually be this as its something I like to use three times a day, and so far it's just so erratic it really is peeing me off..

you've pretty much described the issue i have with my hs3000 - just gotta make sure its connected to media. it's got a mind of its own :silly:
my jawbone icon however, works fine. seems to be compatibility issues for some bt devices, hopefully will be sorted in next fw

Doubt it, if it's just not connecting to media, then that was happening to me on stock as well
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Hello
For a short while I had an HTC One X running ICS. One great feature was the Car Dock, which presented a nice landscape mode home screen, and dialler to the phone. I changed the One X because the Bluetooth profile V4 just would not connect reliably to my 6 year old BMW in car kit, so I exchanged the phone for a Galaxy Nexus (Nexus 3) which is running JB.
There is no car dock mode included in the operating system unlike HTC, so it must be an HTC feature. i tried many many Car Docks from Google Play, and although some present a nice home screen, when you touch the icon for "phone" you get the stock Android dialler for Portrait mode, instead of a landscape mode dialler designed for in car use. In all the cases i tried this was also true for other "apps" once the app was launched you got standard app not something designed for in car use.
Can the forum point me towards a 3rd party Car Dock app, which includes not just a nice "HOME PAGE" but also a well designed Landscape mode dialler?
Thanks
Guy
