I'm thinking of flashing oxygen again this weekend - on leedroid at the mo
Is there a google car home app for oxygen? as i use my desire as a sat nav alot and need a sat nav application to launch when i attach my official htc car dock
secondly
can you link facebook to contacts?
so their profile pics appear next to their name in texts?
like in htc sense
hi,
1) don't know, i use the google maps navigation feature and that's about it. Never felt the need for a carhome-like app.
2) yes, just install the official facebook app.
(3) for texting, I recommend handcent over the basic android app)
ps: don't forget to alpharev your partition table so you get loads of space for apps and don't have to enable a2sd feature which can't be a damn nuisance !
so when i attach my phone to car dock - google navigation will launch automatically?
I have no idea, i don't have a car dock. I just plug in my phone into the car cigarette lighter socket and off I go.
What's the big deal anyway in having the phone launching an app on its own when docking in ?...
hi
just saying prior to rooting - when i attached to car dock it launched google car dock home
and it was fair sweet - could navigate to, call, listen to music etc
all from one app
any other answers for this question?
Get Google Car Home from the Market
Nandroid, full wipe, flash oxygen and see for your self.
If it fits your needs keep it and if not restore the nandroid.
Definitive answers and a great feeling of accomplishment for doing something yourself.

Just upgraded to 2.2 and there is a new "Car Panel" application that looks interesting. But I can't find anything on how to use it or what options like auto-launch and auto-connect mean. It looks like is mates up with my car (voice nav through the car speakers?) bluetooth, but does anyone have a Google or HTC link to some documentation? Thanks!
I thought it was just something you click when you are in the car so things you would readily need you have quick access to and it's large buttons.
Nothing more.

LIke you, I know nothing more about it than what I can see in the application itself, but it all seems fairly self-explanatory.
Auto-launch will cause the Car Panel app to run automatically when you place the phone in a (yet-to-be-released) car dock.
Auto-connect will cause the Car Panel app to automatically pair your phone up with a selected bluetooth device (presumably your car's bluetooth receiver, if so equipped).
Other than that, it just seems like the Car Panel is a nice finger-friendly way of navigating to the most critical apps while in your car (the auto-nighttime mode looks pretty cool).

Thanks for the info and these are the reasons I had asked the question. I hadn't heard about any car dock being available and my phone already pairs with my car via Bluetooth for handsfree calling. But I was wondering what new features might be available if it pairs thru this Car Panel (and does this pairing replace the one I use now)? I think there might be more here than is immediately noticable just from the UI.
Has anyone noticed issue with running the music player and navigation at the same time?
When I was on 2.1 the music would just pause and the navigation would speak...now if I have the music open and I open navigation, the music player shuts down.
If I open navigation, and then the music player, it works as I would hope, the music pauses and then the navigation speaks. But another turn, the music player shuts down by itself, at least it did in the one or two attempts I tried at it.
Anyone else have issue with this? I have a full car dock setup and one of the main reasons was so I could use the phone as a music player integrated with calls and navigation.
By the way, HTC, a landscape mode for the music player would be GREATLY appreciated.
I don't think the music player for the EVO (one installed by default) is HTC's. I think it is Sprint's music app which replaces the default one. I hate the default sprint music app. I installed the original one and use that, which works great in landscape mode. There are a few really good free music apps from the market which are even better (MixZing is my favorite so far which includes a good navigation menu and gestures, then their is Meridian and DoubleTwist which if had all the features I want, would be really great...).
Why doesn't the Car Panel allow landscape mode??? The Android 2.2 default Car Panel app allows landscape mode (has two screens) with extra slots to set your own apps, has music app built in... Sprints modified version does look better than Android's default, but is severely hindered in optimization! Why remove features!?? modify it, but keep features or add to it! Hell, give me option to choose or something...
Auto start of car panel with mini/micro USB adapter
I bought a mini to micro USB adapter and used it to charge my Evo with my old G1 charger. Interestingly, when I do so, the Car Panel application auto starts.

Mine does the same. It freaked me out at first.
Does anyone have experience with a ROM that will support that official car dock?
What level of support? Ideally I'd like to find one that will launch the car dock app. It would be even better if I could get it to launch the Google car app, rather than the HTC one, which doesn't seem to have a 'speak destination' button.
If nothing else, I may settle for 'doesn't force the phone to reboot when inserted'.
Appreciate your suggestions!
Looks like LeeDroid is a winner.
I'm not sure if my crashing problem was caused by Desire HD ports or not.

I've been using NextSense, OpenDesire and MIUI-Au (in that order) with the car dock. None of them rebooted, but none of them automatically activated the car app either (probably because I've never used the HTC car dock and always used the Google one).
The Google car app has a function that enables it when a particular BT device is detected. That's what I use. So my phone goes into car mode when it sees the Parrot BT carkit. That works pretty well (now to automatically disable car mode... that doesn't work yet).
The Google car dock is in the standard Google app pack (gapps-hdpi-20101114-signed.zip). You'll need CarHomeGoogle.apk and CarHomeLauncher.apk.
Does anyone know if it's possible to get the vehicle dock interface running in the car without the vehicle dock?
I have the Multimedia Dock/hd dock and was planning on mounting that on my dashboard and was wondering how to get the option in the list to use the car dock setup?
Yes you can get the car dock program running without the car dock. You need the app called Anycut from the market. This app makes shortscuts for you. The intructions are listed here in the forum. Just search for Anycut.
If you cannot find it, I will see if I can help further.
Sent from my Atrix using Tapatalk.
Anycut works and is a neat app. However, I use launch x and couldn't put the anycut shortcut into my app widget. If you get the "Car Mode" app from the market, it does the exact same thing (pretty much a short cut to car dock) and acts like any other app.
Just note if you use the car mode app be sure to click the app icon after you close it otherwise whenever you hit the home button it will bring up the car home. Took me a min to figure that out.
this is how you can setup your phone using a cheap gps holder as a car dock. i don't know if real car docks work the same way, but this is what works for me.
first you need a gps holder that will hold your phone snug with the case on.
next, buy a nfc sticker and stick it on the holder.
use nfc task launcher to run a tasker script and bypass the keyguard, set brightness, volume, etc.
my task runs zeam launcher as an app to display the car dock screen (since touchwiz has no landscape mode).
put your audio and gps apps in zeam as tasker shortcuts. since there is no way to switch gps on and off (at least in stock rom), i have tasker go thru the settings pages using dpad input. same thing turns off gps if those apps are closed. i'm also using this method to switch between edge and 4g, to save battery.
to run it you just stick your phone in the holder, plug in usb and audio cables. phone turns on when you start the car, and the audio and gps apps start with 1 button. but personally i just have streaming music start automatically.
if anyone has any ideas how i can improve on this (can i run the audio out thru just the usb cable?) feel free to reply.

Hi everybody! I bought a the original vehicle dock kit for Galaxy Nexus, I find it difficult to set it to use as I desire.
Let me explain: I have found here on Xda forum the apk to retrieve the car kit mode, but do not find it useful if you want to navigate with Google Maps, listen to music and take calls and hear from the speakers of my car via a cable jack.
Every time I go to Google Maps, I have to reset again my destination, and the voice of the guide is really low, the music covers a lot. In addition, the call can not hear from the speakers and I'm afraid that if I remove the handsfree mode, automatically the microphone is lowered!
You as you have configured your Nexus? You have downloaded an app alternative? What about a better software Maps, which I still "too beta"?
Thank you everybody! Bye!
