What is the best option to remove att junk from m9? I have disabled all I could.
Am I looking at unlocking bootloader and then load a custom rom? Or can I load a different ruu?
Thanks.
Might as well unlock, root, and flash some roms. Only reason I dropped the s6 already... If you want a bloat-free phone, there is only so much you can do out of the box.
There are a couple options, but I agree the best way is to unlock, Flash's custom recovery (TWRP beta) and install acustom ROM. My preference is ARHD because I prefer function and performance over flashy themes, but everyone likes something different.
The other option still requires unlocking and rooting, but you could use Titanium Backup (TiBu) to selectively remove the carrier apps. However, there's no guarantee you'll get everything, since many carriers load monitoring software that runs in the background. One of those apps is called Carrier IQ (CIQ), which is a terrible privacy risk. Most developers will dig that out to completely remove it, which is one more reason to go with a custom ROM.

I bought mine unlocked so I don't have any Bloat with any carrier. There's the typical HTC bloat but some are useful while others aren't. Still the phone is very fast.

So my simplistic understanding of Root vs Unlock is that;
- Root gives you superuser access, and
- Unlock unlocks the bootloader (how stuff is loaded at boot time).
So, assuming that's correct would I ever need to be unlocked on an A100 if I want to use custom ROMs?
My main intent with rooting is to use third party apps with extended access privileges.
Bonus question: What are the main reason(s) people unlock (in stead of 'just' being rooted)?
Thanks!
Rooting is for certain apps and r/w to system if needed. Unlocked is allowing a non official rom to run. Rooted stock is usually fine for alot of people. And yes you pretty much understood it. You don't need one to have the other.
Oh also, main reason to unlock is cwm and custom roms, serves no other real purpose.

You hit it on the nail on that. The only reason people want to use diffrent roms is due to issues with stock roms that wont be fixed in time such as bloated ware, custom start animations, and other neat custom rom stuff. lol
Since you are rooted i would highly recommend using Crossix SD Swap mod to expand your internal memory so u dont fill it up so fast. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1422158
Hi guy,
Got my Rogers Galaxy S3 a couple days ago and loving it. The only thing that annoys me is the bloatware it comes with, which I don't need. I have googled this and came across people just saying to root the phone and install Titanium Backup to remove the bloatware. Has anyone tried to remove the Rogers bloatware and was successful?
I also know you can use root uninstall to remove bloatware. Is it safe to remove the Rogers applications?
I do not have a S3, but on all my other samsung devices(nexus s, gnex, captivate) they can remove any software when rooted.
I would second the recommendation to root and use Titanium Backup to remove the bloatware. I also am with Rogers and deleted most of the Rogers bloatware, minus the My Account. A stock rooted rom with a few tweaks is the way to go for me lol. But, there are many other roms to choose from if you are so inclined. Also remember to always make a Nandroid backup before doing anything! ha ha ha!! It has saved me a few times!
yes that is one of the most popular ways to do it, through rooting then titanium back up. I've done it and now I am also running CM 10.
Ya know where you go to uninstall a program? well you can freeze/disable them No need for root if you dont want to.
You could also install a custom ROM, but you would lose the TouchWiz features.
There's this mod that I use called Ashaman where basically you use your custom recovery to remove not only carrier bloatware but system apps that you might not need as well. (svoice, swhatever, live wallpapers). But of course you have to be rooted but it's still perfectly safe. The developer of the mod is implementing a restore option of bloatware in the near future as well. You should check that out.

After searching the forums for this I think I am safe to ask for a list of what can be deleted and removed vs what cannot. I have my phone rooted, I have installed Titanium, no-bloat and Rom Tool Box but there are some processes and oddly named features that I have no idea what they do.
I know that there is an installer that has been installing everything back every time I reset.
Does anyone have a list of Rogers and Samsung bloatware that is safe to remove with the above software.
Cheers
My wife has a T-Mobile Galaxy S4 M-919 that we have been using on AT&T for quite a while now. It has some bugs and I want to reinstall it for her to get a clean start.
I'm experienced with firmware, recoveries, etc. I thought we would try to debloat the phone while we were at it. She, however, does NOT want to have anything to do with rooting her phone and she actually likes TouchWIz, but she'd like to debloat the carrier apps/annoying boot graphics if possible.
I know it is possible to flash roms for the i9505 onto this phone, but I've never really dealt with KNOX, for one thing. Is it possible to flash the generic global firmware (or something similar) onto this phone without "messing it up" in her eyes (via Heimdall or Odin or something)? Even if I can root it (or worse) and put it back to "stock" after that would probably work. It is over a year old and out of any warranty as far as I know. Thanks guys.
There is no way. You have 2 options
1) manually disable the apps on application manager
2) root, remove whatever you want, then unroot
This may come off as a silly question but, I"m aware that AT&T and Verizon versions of the Note 4 there is no way to root it permanently but, even if you can temporary root it, is it still possible to install a custom rom? I'm in the process of downgrading from lollipop right now (I hate the new notifications) but just figure I'd ask.

without permanent root, no there is no way to flash a custom rom, if we get permanent then we can use flashfire or multisystem to flash custom roms (touchwiz only no CM or AOSP variants)

I have been wondering if it may be possible to eliminate all the bloatware from ATT and all bloatware from Samsung, by way of using the Kingroot process > then install Ti-Backup > then DELETE not freeze those applications.
Will such a thing work ? even if one may loose root after rebooting?
I there a possibility that that attempting something like that may cause a major crash on my phone?
In other words, I would like to be able to rid myself from all that bloatware that came with my out of the box N910-A i know about the disable feature on the apps manager, but i want those apps OUT.
Thanks in advance for any help that you can offer.
And I am STILL hoping for PERMA-root sometime in the near future

unfortunately no that wont work, if you delete or modify the system partition IN ANY WAY it will cause the DM_VERITY to kick in. until we get past the OS Verification and write protection we cant delete or modify anything.

many devices with locked bootloaders have custom roms, The S5 for instance. it's not the locked bootloader that is preventing custom roms it is the need for permanent root, once we have that we can use flashfire or multirom to flash custom touchwiz roms. what the locked bootloader prevents is the ability to flash custom kernels thus preventing roms based off of CM or AOSP/AOKP
Thank you for your Very fast and friendly reply. Have yourself a good day.
I'm really keen on rooting just for the customisation options. I'd rather not lose warranty for sticking a custom boot animation and custom fonts on the device. In all likelihood that's all I'll ever need root for. I'm assuming this (rooting with a locked bootloader) is possible, but no method has been discovered yet?
In the meantime, any other suggestions on customising the phones font / boot animation? Is this possible without root? I've tried custom launchers (apex, nova, go, the Microsoft one I've forgotten the name of) but honestly prefer the stock one.
I wouldn't say it's possible. At least not in Android versions after Lollipop when Kingroot etc could do the job. That was some time ago though. Sorry, you'll have to unlock bootloader if you want to root that's just the way it is today.
Oh well, guess I'll forego my warranty then. Only another 7 days to go until I can unlock it haha.
the only thing stopping me from rooting is the fact ill lose android pay which ive really become a fan of lately. Before this i rooted every android phone i had. i would advise u to think long and hard before rooting in case u regret it.

No, you'll not. Just be sure to flash stock nougat rom, not deodexed one. And don't use supersu/phh's, only Magisk. You will get root and certified play store at same. Read my post here for more information :
