I just recently updated my tab s 10.4 to lollipop and noticed that when unlocking the screen the playstore comes up. Is there anyway to disable this "feature"? It's quite annoying. I've looked around in the settings and found nothing....
It's not a feature it requires you to update Google services!
Wish it were that easy... I was kidding about it being a feature. Anyhow all updates have been done. It doesn't happen each time I unlock... seems to only happen after an extended screen off time.

The bug that affects the s3 and note 2 works on our at&t s3. If you use a pin for security on your lock screen, you can bypass it by hitting...
- Emergency call
- Emergency contacts
- the home button
- the power button
It takes some timing on the power button but if you keep trying you will get it. It makes the lock screen disabled until reboot and also the notification bar doesn't work but is quite a security flaw.
This is verified on my bone stock unrooted s3.
I have seen this posted in the international s3 forum but not for at&t, so I figured I would share

This only affects touchwiz.
Yeah, guess I'll have to move to cm or another aosp based ROM. Security is sort of a big thing for me. This is sad though I would think Samsung would be pushing a fix quickly with the whole safe for enterprise thing.

Lose the phone... first thing to do is change google account password.
Hopefully Samsung patches it soon! (Already posted in the S III General forum.)
Hmmn I am unable to repro I can get close. I can get back to the home screen without actually unlocking but almost instantly the password screen reappears

It takes some timing on the power button. It took me about ten tries but eventually worked.

I've just confirmed that this actually works (unfortunately).
Now that this method has been publicized on the web, Samsung and our carriers WILL have to roll-out an update (such as 4.2.1) with immediate effect to remedy this flaw.
For an apology, they can also add the Premium Suite in the update for the rest of us who have been ignored.
Has anyone tested this after updating Lookout Mobile Security to the latest version? It's supposed to provide a temporary fix.

Did a whole bunch of updates from the play store yesterday and all morning my phone has been turning the screen on every 5 minutes on the dot for a couple of seconds at a time, bypasses the lock screen as well.
Any ideas?
Best way to track down what app/service is doing this aside from deleting them all and reinstalling one by one...?
It's a screen wake lock issue.
Use wakelock detector from play store.

Check whether super su or superuser are causing it.

Have you tried asking this in Q and A?
I'm guessing someone might be able to help more if you gave more info on your phone and setup.
Rooted/not rooted, stock, not stock, bought on ebay or from a store, etc.
My son's S3 had the same issue it turned out that he had activated an option from the Lock Screen Settings something like a Face Unlock after turning it off it was all normal.
Hi all,
I have recently updated my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 to Jelly Bean 4.2 and then rooted it. Ever since the screen turns off before the adjusted screen time out and the device gets locked and freezes. Every time this happens, I have to wait for a good few seconds till I can swipe the device open. It's indeed a hassle as it seems to be happening more frequently now.
Can anybody be of assistance. I am already most grateful.

I figured it all out myself. It was the so-called smart cover that caused the problem.

Hi guys,
I just bought a note 3 neo today and was wondering if it's worth updating to kitkat. I've seen a lot of people saying mixed things about it. Also I seem to have a problem of, it rebooting randomly or just shutting down even. Will updating fix this problem?
thanks
few features will go away after the kitkat update.. namely smart stay and smart pause and screen hovering features also the file operations would be restricted for 3rd party apps.. you wont be able to delete/move/copy files in apps like ES explorer, etc.. you will have to do file operations in stock file manager only after the Kitkat update..

Look a little further down the page:

Sounds like that is for all screens? I want it to work even when the screen is off
I also have S Voice disabled. It's one of the first things I disabled actually

Well that's your problem then. It's not a Motorola X with an always listening core. It causes a wakelock on our phones. Download an app from the play store if you truly need that function. Other than that, ok google on every screen works fine for the rest of us.
The support page mentions this...
Always-on: Say "Ok Google" whether your screen is on or off. This setting is only available for Nexus 6, Nexus 9, and Samsung Note 4 devices.
That's why I'm asking. Fine it doesn't work but it clearly says there that the phone is supported

It worked for me on kitkat but not on lollipop
Same here, worked until the lollipop update.
If you look a little closer to the setting you can see it did change in Lollipop. The document for OK Google is for KitKat.
On the Note 4 5.0.1 it now says always on, from any screen or when charging, the option previously for some other devices and not when screen is off. So it is working as intended in Lollipop. As a side note the response is quicker than it was in KitKat.
Mine worked in kit Kat and is still working on LP from any screen and from phone off. Have not checked the settings to see if it is greyed out but have not had to since it works.
Hmm... mine are not selectable. Don't want to mess with the settings since it is working.
