I just did a wipe/factory reset just to start clean and install funkyfresh samba sharing. It connected right away but my USB driven isn't showing on my network. Also my kodi "files" are hidden even though I enabled it in kodi.
Any help would be appreciated. For some reason my other aftv with identical setup doesn't have the same issue. It even has the same USB flash drive.
Also a heads up and maybe some clarification... before wiping I formatted my usb drive which was storing kodi thumbs and any apps aftv let me. But after install -r kodi it saved all settings except thumbs. There was no thumbnail folder on internal nor external. Deleting textures13db didn't restore it. I wound up doing a fresh start there so I don't need help but if there's an explanation it be good to know for future reference. I suspect I should've not erased the USB before wiping data on aftv?

Even though i dont have any app installed my aftv says im running low on storage. On the setting menu i only have 470mb free. I already did a factory reset and wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache in CWM recovery, and reset to factory defaults on aftv settings.
Getting desperate as i cant sideload anything not even es file explorer...
Any ideas where i should look?
Hello, please anyone have any idea. Right now my aftv is useless even though its not bricked
Check xbmc thumbnails folder? I had an issue with it at one point, so I deleted the thumbnails folder in my kodi userdata folder which was huge and added an imageres tag in advanced settings file to 720 and let kodi rebuild thumbnails. I have several games installed and so far seems fine to me.
Look into that as a possible solution. If you have a lot of fan art and posters that could be eating up storage via thumbnails. I did try a path substitution for them at one point too, but I use a heavy skin and it was too slow to browse my media with the path subs for the thumbnails. Thinking of trying it again with another skin if I find one I like.

Did using the advanced settings method greatly reduced the size of data for XBMC? Mines' well over a 1.5g and I'm looking at moving my data to an external drive purely because of XBMC. I did the stickymount/foldermount method using a flash drive, but it was insanely slow.
Can you share your advanced settings file?
I can post it later for you. I use a central media server for my files and a mysql library so my kodi database is not on my fire tv, but like I said my thumbnails folder was huge in the userdata folder, so I shrank it by deleting it and setting imageres tag to 720 and it regenerated the thumbnails to a smaller size. I proved speed on my skin which is xeebo.

ashmanmb thanks for your reply but the problem is that of this moment my aftv has zero apps installed.
In the last few weeks i started getting the low storage message and i had xbmc, netflix and some other apps installed. Even after uninstalling and reinstalling i still got the message. Then a few days ago xbmc streams started getting a full cache in the beginning message.
So i thought i'm doing a factory reset through CWM recovery. After doing that i was stuck in a loop where it would go to the amazon logo and back to recovery. As suggested by rbox i updated my aftv version. After the update it went smoothly to the homescreen but with the same storage space (470mb). Back to recovery i did another factory reset and the storage space the same. I tried wipe cache partition, wipe the dalvik cache and even reset to factory default inside the aftv settings. I still have the same space. And the problem is i cant install any app like es file explorer to look for any files that may be occupying space.
So as if now i cant determine the problem...
Do you have any ROM files pushed and sitting after any upgrade? Do you have any backups done in CMW?
Look up the "du" command that you can run from shell (if rooted, can be run from root). Might need Busybox installed, not sure...
http://www.linfo.org/du.html
Eg: du -a / | sort -n -r | head -n 50
This gives you a top 50 hogs in your system. Read up on that and it should be a good starting point. I didn't search for scripts, but I am sure there are some good ones out there. There is also a "find" command, which might help you.
Dbdoshi thanks for your help
Will try tomorrow when i get home. If busybox is needed im in trouble because i can't install anything.
I'll let you know tomorrow
Thanks
I have a FireTV Stick and a FireTV box both non-rooted and updated to its latest firmware. I only use both FireTv for streaming on Kodi.
I have the same situation on both devices and the FireTv message pops up and states that it is low on storage space and that I must remove apps to make space.
I currently have Kodi setup the way I want it and I am not able to stream anything because of the low storage on the device.
I do currently have the 0 cache advanced xml file. I assumed that 0 cache meant that, when streaming, it downloads with no limits and when the movie finishes it clears the cache. Resetting (deleting the cache) itself so it doesn't use any memory.
I checked within the FireTv settings (app info) and saw that Kodi cache is 120 kb whereas the data is 4.2 GB.
Is it possible to clear the data memory (4.2GB) without losing my current Kodi setup?
Or is it the thumbnails that are taking up all my memory space (data). If so, how do I remove it so I can gain all my memory back without losing my Kodi setup.
First, here is a good thread for 0 cache. The FireTV doesn't have enough space. Don't do it. Good suggestions in the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/help/adjusting-zero-cache-t3016416
As for the thumbnails, just can delete the thumbnails directory if you believe it is taking up the space. If you are rooted you can get a USB thumbdrive and store the thumbnails there. Search for PathSubstitution for the Advanced Settings file. *Edit sorry, says you aren't. So you likely need to turn off fan art I believe to prevent the thumbnails from taking up space.
Side load an app link DiskUsage and find out what is taking up the space to be sure.
Hello!
Just purchased a Fire TV 4k to replace my WDTV Live and I've run in to a bit of a problem. I have successfully rooted the machine and I installed Stickmount to be able to access my NTFS-formated external hard drive but Stickmount appears to be unable to see the drive. The drive is a Seagate 4TB, powered by a separate PSU but it does not appear to turn on at all either when plugged in to the Fire TV or when trying to mount it.
Is there something silly that I am overlooking? Is there a known issue with some drives or perhaps I am just really unlucky and this one won't work? Are there alternatives to using Stickmount?
All I want to do is have a nicer looking, better performing version of the WDTV to play my media... Why must you make it so tricky Amazon?
Anyway, really appreciate your help and patience!
okay so, turns out switching off debugging via USB allowed the drive to power up but it still doesn't seem to be mountable or, perhaps, i can't see the drive's contents on kodi.
any idea where that stuff usually goes?
I only rooted two days ago. Stickmount hasn't been useful for me. Paragon exFAT, NTFS & EFS+ however has been great with my NTFS hard drives. It seems to run and do most stuff automatically, it does have a couple of options. If your drive is alive after installation this is the process to get things working in Kodi.
1) Go into KODI and select the Video menu then Files below it.
2) Select Files from the menu then Add videos. A window called Add Video source should appear.
3) Click the Browse button. Select External storage. You'll see a folder named ParagonNTFS If your drive is mounted.
4) Select or Open ParagonNTFS then click OK on the right side of the screen.
5) The Add Video source window appears, click Add. Then OK
From there it's straight forward. Kodi will ask how you have your files stored, index them and other fun things. So far with hard drives I've found that the Fire TV 2 wants them to be powered or connected to a powered USB hub.

ah fantastic, i shall look in to this. what's the easiest way to get ParagonNTFS onto the Fire TV?
May I make a suggestion if this doesn't work out? Your router might have a USB port designed to allow a hard drive's contents to be a network share. Not only will Kodi be able to access the drive easier, every computer/Fire TV will be able to access it, too.

unfortunately mine doesn't. i have found out that my old WDTV Live acts as a NAS server of some kind (i guess, it allows a harddrive to appear on the network anyway) so i am using that for now and able to view all my files. i will try out Paragon or otherwise buy the cheap usb-ethernet device i was linked to via Reddit.
Glad I found this thread.
Here's a Mac guide for this. It will cover formatting a drive in NTFS and the program you need on the Fire TV to mount the NTFS drive and how to make this work with Kodi.

I'm loving this Fire TV more every day.
Just for hard drive?
Guys, being limited to fat32 and related file size < 4gb is the biggest issue that really sucks with ftv for me. I have some questions, as you already successfully removed this limt.
Does this way by paragon ntfs help even to mount an usb stick? Will stick be mounted as otg (as fat32 before) or do i will find it in the paragonntfs folder, same as the HDD?
What method you took for rooting?
If used kingroot, did you apply factory reset after finished , as i read of this recommendation?
Thanks and cheers

An external drive is an external drive. I don't see why there would be any difference to paragon whether you were using a flash chip or a spinning platter to contain your data files.
Rooted today and paragon app works well with flash chip. Anyone experience with CF stickmount? What's the difference to Paragon except it needs extfat formatted drives?
Paragon ntfs su notifications
Hi,
im on the latest prerooted rom on my 2gen fire tv with Paragon ntfs intalled.
But i always get these paragon su granted notifications on screen every 5-10min, which drives me crazy
Does anybody get the same notifications?
How do i get rid of them?
I'm really confused so I'll try to provide details I can recall...
My AFTV gen 1 with OS5 kodi install was a little glitchy so eventually wound up doing a clean install.
This came AFTER MANY attempts to preserve my data.
The last 2 times I tried this I completely wiped every bit of kodi data I had on internal and USB. I installed kodi Jarvis.
The 1st time I scanned sources and it populated fine. But when I exit kodi then relaunch it I'm greeted with what looks like a blank install!
To sum up, it appears like when I exit Kodi it sends Kodi data to my usb BUT there are no settings in place to actually read that data so Kodi is blank.
Last time I made certain to remove everything. Then I took my sources.xml from my other aftv (same setup) and moved it to the problem aftv. I start up kodi, all seems fine--my movies and TV shows are there. I exit and POOF! Its gone again. If I delete my kodi data from usb drive Kodi works again but when I exit it repeats the cycle.
I'm stumped. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
***I think the issue would be resolved if someone could just tell me why data keeps exporting to my usb drive. I keep deleting it but Kodi winds up back on my usb once I exit.
http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Change_data_location_for_Android
This took 5 seconds on google.
Backing up Kodi is as simple as copying over the userdata folder, btw. If you don't know how to copy files, learn to use adb and get to know the filestructure of kodi a bit better using a file explorer on the Fire TV. Or just use a File explorer and copy the userdata folder to a networkdrive (Total commandar f.e. has a lan plugin), or a usb stick, or... If you don't know what a folder is... Try to learn that as well...

I appreciate the help but Ive been using Kodi since Frodo and aftv gen 1 since June 2014. Ive been through numerous kodi versions and never has the aftv just defaulted to moving all the data to usb...
In fact Im pretty sure it doesn't because theres methods available specifically for aftv to properly move data to usb.
I have to take a closer look at my other aftv. Its running the same kodi version.
***Btw my bandaid was to remove my usb stick and copy sources.xml from my other aftv. It works fine but of course not having external storage isnt a good option.
Hi everyone,
On my 4k firestick and my firetv 3rd gen (dongle) I’m using an otg cable, and an external usb drive formatted using ADB partition command. In order to move the apps from the internal to external storage I either use de ADB move command or the MiXplorer, the downside on using the MiXplorer is that you have to copy the app to the downloader folder, uninstall it and then reinstall it from the folder and it goes straight to the usb partition, but this method looses al the login info, not a major drawback but nerveless a nuisance.
When it comes to update the apps from amazon’s official appstore we run in to an error if the app is located in the external drive, so the solution is either move it back to the internal storage, update it and move it back either by uninstalling it and downloading it again from the Appstore, moving with ADB command, or using the downloader app to find the newest version and install it over the old one, although this last method works it is prone to errors due to choosing the wrong apk version listed on those alternative sources (apkmirror and others).
So, my question is if there is an app with a graphic interface like MiXplorere that allows to move the apps to and from the USB storage in a similar way as the ADB command line? Is there a different method that I’m missing?
Thanks in advance,
London

Hey,
Not sure if you've tried apps2sd Pro?
To use this this app you will have to set partitions on the extsdcard USB first.
If I remember correctly one partition is made ext4 and one FAT32.
The ext4 partition becomes apps adopted storage when mounted and the FAT32 partition becomes normal storage for downloads etc.
Hope this helps
Regards
Unfortunately, Apps2sd Pro only works in rooted devices, not the case here.
Any how thanks for the suggestion, let's if there is some other solution in this line.
Cheers,

Hi,
Apologies I guess I just assumed you were rooted as most on here use rooted devices.
The only other (known) way is described here :

This is basically the procedure that I used to format the USB drive, but to move the apps he suggests to use ES file explorer, that was banned due to security concerns, so I was looking for an alternative...
Thanks again for the patience and attention.
