I always get "Unfortunately process X/Y/Z has stopped" (all apps system/user like Google Playstore, EsFile Explorer)
This is the quick scenario:
-Installed fresh Samsung Rom & rooted, I did some custom settings (black wallpaper, sms delivery report etc)
-Installed recovery recovery-clockwork-6.0.5.1-serranoltexx.tar.md5 (as recommended by CyaongenMod / CWM by Arco)
-I did a backup on the external SD card.
(wipe cache, wipe data && clear davlik cache / factory reset and then restoring from backup is working fine,
as the setting like the dark/null wallpaper, sms delivery report are there)
-Installed CyanogenMod 11, then backup from CWM (restoration of backup worked).
-Installed CyagogenMod 12, then backup from CWM (restoration of backup worked).
Now here comes the problem. I wish to restore the Stock-Rom, with my custom settings.
I wipe cache, data, davlik && restore from CWM recovery the STOCK rom with CUSTOM settings,
and when the system starts I get that error will all the system and user apps
"unfortunately google play store has stopped"
How can I backup properly the stock samsung rom with MY Custom setting and,
revert back to them after trying other after market firmware/rom?
Have you flashed the same samsung rom after choosing to revert back? (not sure if I understood you correctly)
If not, try flashing the samsung rom again and then restore the backup.
If you did flash the samsung rom and still have crashes, clear cache after restoring. Other then that, I don't see another way restoring.
Download latest google apps package for kitkat 4.4.x and flash it via recovery after restoring nandroid backup of stock.
This force closes happened to me once when i tried to go back from cm10.2 to stock. I solved it by flashing latest gapps [jellybean @ that time]
If that works for you then you can make a new backup.

I'm a little confused by the AmonRa wipe options. Could anyone explain to me what I should wipe before installing a new ROM. In other words, what is a full wipe using AmonRa?
Scary place xda so pleasant answers much appreciated
I'm using v2.0.0 btw
All features are explained here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839621
When you install a new rom, you have to do a full wipe. This is the option "wipe ALL userdata" in amonra. If you just update your current rom, a wipe of /dache and dalvik-cache will be enough.
But before you do this, you should backup all userdata and systemdata with titanium backup:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/titanium-backup-★-root/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup (menu>batch>backup all user apps and system data).
For your sms you can SMS Backup + for example:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/sms-backup/com.zegoggles.smssync
A good guide how to flash a rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
After flashing the new rom, download titanium backup from market (if necessary) and restore "missing apps and userdata" (menu>batch>restore missing apps and userdata). If you flash a non-sense-rom coming from a sense-rom or reverse, only restore missing apps. Otherwise there can appear strange system issues. After a reboot download from market sms backup + (if necessary) and restore sms with it.
Thank you for a very full answer
Can you nandroid restore for apps & settings on new ROM or new version of same ROM?
Many people (myself included) are "flash-happy" and install new ROMs or ROM updates very frequently. While I love flashing new stuff, I hate the process of getting my phone set up all over again. Titanium Backup is currently my go-to app for backing up apps and restoring them after a flash. Nova Launcher has been super-helpful in keeping my widgets. However, many apps don't work until you open them after a restore (1Weather, Adfree, LightFlow, Lux, etc). So generally, the following is my tedious process for flashing:
1. Assign labels in TiBU to the apps I want to restore and run "backup all apps + data"
2. Wipe Data, Cache, Dalvik, Battery Stats
3. Flash ROM, GApps, Kernel, etc. Fix permissions
4. Install TiBU and then painstakingly restore apps (only non-system), then restore data for those apps.
5. Open each app and configure where necessary
6. Go through all the ROM settings and set them the way I like (nav bar icon size, clock posiiton, battery icon, etc etc etc).
Just the thought of going through this whole process makes me hold off on flashing too often, and I usually end up saving flashes for when I have a big chunk of time. Some people, I've noticed, flash new ROMs like they've got nothing better to do. It makes me wonder... do they have some trick for quickly restoring their phones after each flash? Is there some way to condense or streamline steps 4-6 in my process?
A Nandroid backup saves the System and Data partitions. What info does each partition contain? I realize that each ROM is different and it might be problematic to restore settings of one ROM to another, but what if you're simply upgrading to a newer version of the same ROM? I'm wondering if I can make a nandroid backup of CNA 3.6.6 and then restore only the Data partition after flashing CNA 3.8.0 so that the new ROM is in place but all the apps and settings are restored from the previous setup. If this does work, is it stable and smooth?
Or if I'm completely off about using Nandroid for this purpose, does anyone have any methods for getting back up to speed quickly after flashing new ROMs?
In titanium backup you can go to settings > create update.zip so next time you flash a new rom gapps etc you can install the update.zip as well and have TiBu off the back. If you have the pro key it will be more beneficial to you. You do have to log into you google account if you have the pro key before opening TiBu. I use Paranoid Android and I can backup my rom settings idk how CNA does it. That one you might have to manually do.
Between ROM updates you don't have to wipe data. Just Cache and dalvik.
I have recovered my data partition between wipes before but stopped because everytime I update or flash a new rom I usually go for a new look.
Here is my process between flashing new roms
1. Backup everything in TiBu (I already have the update.zip so I skip that. You only need to do it once or if the app gets updated)
2. Go into recovery wipe data, system, cache, dalvik
3. Install rom, gapps, kernel, TiBu
4. Restart
5. Load up sign into google account
6. Open TiBu and restore everything
Some apps naturally won't restore everything like Adfree for example will put the hosts file in your system for you, when you back that app up your only backing up the settings. When you back it up it only backs up the settings. Dropbox and Skydrive I have to manually sign back in. I never had lightflow so I don't know how that works. Its a little tedious but I usually give a rom a few hours before I actually go through all that.
Hope it helps
If you don't want to have to log in to your Google account before using the full version of Titanium Backup, just use App2Zip to make a flashable zip of TiBu and its Pro key. Then just flash it last, boot, and batch restore the rest of your apps and data.

I am having fits trying to use Titanium Backup Pro (TBP) on my Samsung Galaxy S3 (i747). After installing a new ROM and preforming a TBP restore I always have two problems. First my wifi and 4G(LTE) fail to connect. Second, I can no longer install apps in Google Play store from my desktop PC. Before I do a TBP restore both these problem do not exist. What am I doing wrong?
First I will walk through my process of installing a new ROM.
Place ROMS & GAPPS in the root directory. I put them there because it is quick and easy to find.
Backup my current ROM using ROM Manager Premium v5.0.3.1.
Backup all my apps, folders, and settings with TBP...I think. I choose the Backup all user apps + system data option.
Here is where some of the confusion is for me. Which backup option should I chose in TBP?
I have tried both Backup all user apps and Backup all user apps + system data.
Or should I choose another option?
Does TBP backup all my folders I created on my homescreen and other screens?
Does TBP backup all my WiFi connections and passwords?
Does TBP backup information pertaining to Google Play?
Does TBP backup all my widgets on my homescreens?
Does TBP backup the wallpaper currently in use on the phone?
After all the backups I boot into Recovery mode using ClockworkMod 6.0.1.2.
Once inside CwM Recovery I select wipe data/factory reset, wipe partition cache, wipe dalvik cache, and wipe battery stats.
Next I install the ROM and GAPPS. After they both successfully install I reboot the phone.
Finally I go through the setup process to complete the new ROM install.
I have tried both letting Google Play restore all my apps and stopped Google Play from restoring my apps.
At this point my WiFi and 4G(LTE) are working fine. Plus I able able to install appsin Google Play from my desktop PC.
Now I preform a TBP restore. I have tried both Restore all apps with data and Restore missing apps + all system data.
Once the restore is done TBP recommends I reboot, which I do.
Sometimes the phone will get stuck in a boot loop. So I have to pull the battery and reboot. Sometime the phone will get stuck in boot loop and the only way to get out of it is to reinstall the ROM and GAPPS.
After the TBP reboot I notice my WiFi and 4G(LTE) are not working as well as installing apps from my desktop PC.
I hope you guys can help figure out what is going on.
Thanks,
-Sonny
Only thing I can say is never restore system apps. I always use TB and have never had an issue.

+1 to this. Never restore any system apps.
The only system data I restore is clock and contacts storage.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S III
I have recently done an update on my firmware to 4.4 and upgraded to Viper Rom 3.1.0 so I am well aware on how the steps are done etc...
However, last time i didn't want to lose any apps and data so everything was done NOWIPE
My question after reading many posts here: if i go for the full wipe to install the rom, do you advice to do the same for the firmware 4.16.401.10?
Also, what's the best procedure/tool to do a backup for apps + data/images? I am not sure if Titanium Backup is best option or maybe the TWRP recovery backup is best?
thanks again for all the work and patience with us, regards!
My advice is to update to the latest firmware , if your in GSM you can just run the RUU for lollipop and then flash a rom.
I think you can use this one:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B17smFr95pleeTQ5U1NzNkZzM0U/edit?pli=1
I have used two methods for backing up;
Follow them if you wish.
[Easy] HTC Backup Tool
If the ROM you're running is Sense based, you can either sideload it or download from the PlayStore (HTC Backup),
You sign in and simply press "Sign in HTC account" if you have one or sign up, press "backup everything", then
select your google account (Drive). Let it do it and when you update, flash a new rom (any even stock or the RUU)
and in the setup process press "Restore from HTC Backup". It'll restore
[Messages, Accounts, Apps, and more, even the settings].
You'll have to backup and restore your files however.
[Medium] App Backup & Restore
This is annoying because you can restore your apps but not the settings and stuff, just apps.
the internal storage you'll have to backup yourself.

You could restore SMS though using
Link:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&hl=en
[Hard] TWRP Backups
you can backup a whole partition and restore everything without breaking the system (rom).
Before doing anything, backup using TWRP these partitions:
boot, system, data, cache and then reboot, drag the whole TWRP folder to your desktop;
backup internal storage.
flash an RUU wipe do anything; after that, reboot with the updated firmware, drag the TWRP folder back on your phone
and flash the recovery once again; go and download this app on your phone:
Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.h3r3t1c.bkrestore&hl=en
open it and go through the setup, after that press on the backup you did press restore and it'll
give you options to restore messages, call history, apps and data, and so forth. Settings aren't saved.
[Hopefully i helped in one way or another let me know the outcome.]

So this method with the RUU will wipe everything?
The HTC bakup is an app i already have, so can i just use it to backup apps and data?
thanks
Hello, I have CWM for long time but that's second time when I used it to restore my stock firmware with apps from a backup made before changing a ROM.
I was using Cyanogenmod 12.1 and before it I did backup of my stock firmware by CWM.
The problem is, when I did restore from a backup, It restored system well, but ... not exactly data.
System booted well, but I don't see any of my apps. Hovewer, when I check in App Manager, I see many apps that i HAD installed but they are shown as 0,00 B weight and have "android" icon.
Memory of my phone is filled as same as when I did backup but apps don't show.
How should I use restore from backup to restore entire system well?
Go to recovery and wipe data, cache and dalvik. Then use advance restore option to restore data and cache.
Now data should work but I recommend using folder mount or sd fix to modify the sdcard restrictions on stock kitkat.
