Hey everybody, New to the Galaxy Nexus Forums, I currently have an Evo 3D and I'm about to get the Galaxy Nexus as soon as it comes out for sprint, and I had a question for you all. Doing a little research before I get the phone. Is the Galaxy Nexus an awesome phone? Can you state the pros and cons? And is the there a lot of roms? I'm the type of person that's a Root-whore xD

I just got the phone yesterday and I can say that I spent these 2 days just flashing and trying out different roms/kernels. Development is booming on this phone. So far not many cons except for the fact that the camera and build quality could have been better. Good luck with your galaxy nexus
Yes, it's an awesome phone. Pros:
- Gorgeous screen
- very hackable/developer friendly
- vanilla ICS
- very hard to brick
- fairly durable (compared to a certain fruit company's phone)
Cons:
- average battery life (~4 hours screen on time stock battery)
- a little big for some pockets
- mediocre camera (although it'll be good enough for most situations)
- no external SD (although you won't need it on most circumstances)
Yes, there are lots of roms, kernels, radios, hacks, whatever you name it. Take a look in the Galaxy Nexus Android Development and Themes/Mods sections.
I'm sort of in the same boat, currently have a Sprint Nexus S. Would you Galaxy Nexus owners recommend switching to the Galaxy Nexus or advise waiting for the Galaxy S III?

And as it seems, nicer environment here, in the Evo 3D forums there is a lot of hostility around.

it's actually very easy if you use the galaxy nexus toolkit in the develpment section. It basiclly unlocks the bootloader, roots and installs cwm in one go.

I think the camera has a great low light sensor.

There is no S-ON or S-OFF with non-HTC devices. Unlocking the bootloader is all that matters with this phone. You can flash radios, kernels, boot images, etc without needing all the extra hassle needed for an HTC device.
Hello all!
I got my GN on Friday, this is the first spare time I had to come on here to look into rooting. I'm coming from the original HTC Evo, first build and all, and quite frankly, I got sick of flashing ROM's every week only to find another buggy rom. I'm a little reluctant to root this phone but I really want to be able to use apps that require root. I noticed in the two yrs I owned the Evo, there seemed to be newer easier methods of root so I come on here to ask what is the easiest method with the least amount of steps to root the GN? Or what is the most recommended method?
Thanks in advance!
PS- so far, this seems to be a very impressive phone, it's lightning quick but that could be til I start filling it up. I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't have a SD card, especially since the usb port on my Evo crapped out on me in less than a year.
Oh one more thing, can someone recommend the best protectors out there, preferably the holster type. TY!
Well a big pro for the Nexus is that its stock ics and screen res, and that when Android Jellybean is out, this will be the first phone to receive it. The biggest con is probably the battery life, but that can be better by getting an extended battery or using JuiceDefender.
I currently have Gs2 but dislike TouchWiz, might get a GNex or wait for the Galaxy S 3 to come out, personally i'd wait for the GS3 to get announced at 3rd May and make a decision then.
Good luck
I'm also going for GNex, but I've lately been reading about some problems which make people replace the phone a couple times. Is it really that common?
Its not for everyone but anyone who loves android has to pilot the nexus on top or near the top of their wish list. Battery life is the only gripe for me since the regular extended battery is still not enough.

Bump, I got till the 29th to get the nexus. Doing lots of thinking :C, is it worth giving away the SD card

Considering the Galaxy Nexus myself, coming from the Motorola Atrix.
Is the battery really that bad? How long does it last with average use (texting, IM, facebook, internet, no gaming)?
Battery doesn't worry me, There are extended batteries for the Nexus for 10 dollars in Ebay. So yeahhhh.

I get 7 hours with average use every day... never issues with data drops or reception.. always solid 4g.
Awesome phone in every way possible.. i did try the RAZR before but didn't take to long the understand i can't be wearing motorola handcuffs for two years..
Currently have the S3 on Verizon. Upgrading to the Note 4 seems nice. Things I will miss include the unlocked bootloader that I highly doubt the Note 4 will ever get, and I doubt it will get safestrap either. My other concern is the current method of rooting the Note 4 (Yes, there is already a way. Unfortunately, it will trip knox and void warranty, where as on the S3 you could use Odin to flash stock image and fully reset it. Will there be evolved root exploits? Input needed, thank you.

My opinion, Note 4 is the best to date device. It's so fast that you probably can live without custom rom for awhile. By then, we should have root and able to enjoy more customization. To tell the truth, after a few years from now, I think custom rom will be obsolete or limited due to unbreakable locked bootloader.... unless some magical thing happened and they decided not to lock boot loader anymore.
I understand the desire for custom roms and/root but custom Roms will no doubt impact one of the main reasons to have a note, the s pen. I say get it if you are okay having sick phone, but ultimately they will have at least a safe root for it. They did for Note 3.

Yeah. I am getting this phone because of the features. I was impressed with the S5 but couldn't go without the note 3 screen size. Now I get the best of both worlds. Between the water proof and an otterbox that makes the phone a little more ruggid for my line of work. I will miss my Xposed modules until there is root!
wait man.note4 has just arrived.it takes time to do other method.wait till some days.will be there someone who migth be working on it
Droid Turbo seems promising. It's all on you. I want the Note 4. I've owned the Note 3 twice, and got rid of it cuz of how sluggish it was. (Bit of a perfectionist) The demo Note 4 seems responsive enough for me and Touchwiz looks a bit better this time around.

I read that the turbo won't have expandable storage, which is so close to a deal-breaker for me
I'm in a pickle. Note 4 DE or Nexus 6? After reading and gathering most peoples opinion that the retail version probably won't get root, I want to know if you guys think that the Note 4 developer's edition will get a lot of support? I never had a developer's edition of any phone so I'm not quite sure about this area. I assume it will but I don't know. I'm basically trying to decide between just buying the DE straight up or wanting til Dec 13 for the nexus 6 for Verizon. I want to be able to root and mod my phone. Any opinions or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have a DE and love it. I will also acknowledge that the Nexus 6 should be a great phone also based on the "technical" specifications and the phone's manufacturer. However, Nexus 6 reviews by the "experts" don't give me the impression that they are thrilled or impressed by this phone...except for maybe its size. The many reviews I've read on the Nexus 6 allow that it is a "good" phone, but not a "great" phone.. In contrast compare that to many reviews, by the same "experts", that taught the Note 4 as probably the best all around phone on the market when you consider the technical specifications and the "hands-on" evaluation. Even the "Mac Boys" choke when they have to agree that the Note 4 is in many respects better than the iPhone 6 Plus. As far as support for the Note 4 DE, well time will tell. There is differently advantage to owning a Nexus when it comes to updates, ROMs etc., but that doesn't mean it is a better phone or that you'll be happier with a Nexus.
If there was a way to run international roms or roms from other carriers, we'd be set. It might just be an issue of flashing the Verizon radios over them; I'm pretty sure there was a way to do this on the note 3 DE.

Well, if Samsung stays true to their precedent with previous DE's, we probably won't be seeing much (if any) direct support from them. Likewise, I don't see Verizon doing much since they don't sell the DE.
However, as a DE owner I'm not worried about it at all. I've been on Android since the original Motorola Droid and I've never once applied an OTA update from Verizon. Every phone I've had has been rooted within minutes of receiving it and I've always gotten my updates from the ROMs released by the dev's. The dev's around here are indeed THAT good and I've always gotten much better support from them than what Verizon has provided. If I recall correctly there have been times when I've upgraded versions of Android months before Verizon pushed out official updates.
Why is it so hard to find a root for att sm n910a ??
What is the difference from the other carries and SW ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2961974
Locked bootloader and write protection. Other models don't have these (Verizon has same issues at ATT though).

ofc it is.. you dont need root for the phone to run beautiful, i never rooted mine, and it's' flawless, even tho mine is international unbranden F version
It's worth it. I'm using the ATT Note 4 and yeah, there's what I mentioned above, but the phone is fully usable and runs pretty great. Battery life is pretty good, it has more cpu power than you'd probably actually need, and the phone is pretty fast. Lollipop is a bit of a hiccup though, but we should be getting 5.1.1 soon, which will fix many bugs, and Samsung has already announced that Note 4 will be getting Marshmallow.
Also, you can disable most bloatware via the system. What can't be disabled can be done via a command line prompt using a computer. Super easy to do (I've done it; search this forum for "debloat").
No root =/= Note 4 is horrible.

So I've had a warrant exchange offer of my Note 3 to go to a Note 4 and would like to know what's available. My Note 3 of course is bl unlocked, rooted, and running Darklord ROM which means MM6.0.1 with the N5/S7 software. It's there a similar rom for the N4? (Darklord doesn't have nfc so I'd love to have that back plus the fingerprint scanner and such) is there still development on the N4 at all? They actually offered me the N5 but I refuse to have a phone without a microSD slot and root. So far the only rom I've seen for the N4 is jasmine. It's that the dominate rom?
I've been out of the loop on devices for a while and only got back into it since the bl crack. Are there any issues or reasons why I shouldn't like the N4 more?
Coming a series of weak phones like thunderbolt and RAZR maxx. This is by far the weakest when it comes to dev. But its the best phone I ever had.

If looks like there's a few options on the generic N4 forum which should work with the unlocked bl. Dr. Kenan looks good for example
