What is going on with Xda forums on IE10? - About xda-developers.com

As in the title:
the Forum is UNUSABLE on IE11?
Since 2 days maybe, it looks completely destroyed.
Chrome and Opera is fine, BUT I WORK ON IE11.
Please bring back the forum!

Development Threads. Please keep comments in general.

A mod has had to delete a thread for maintainance and explicitly tell people not to post off topic only to have the same thing just continue one thread over in the racing build thread unless that is really 13 pages of useful information. Instead of telling to people to stay on topic and continue the trend I made this post.
Could everyone keep the dev threads to dev posts. If you have a bug make a logcat. If you want to say thanks start a single thanks thread in general, I am not sure if thats kosher but at least if the mods have a problem with such thanks thread they can just delete it without having to go through and look for actually useful posts.

Bro, I have no idea what you said but I think I agree
we had to clean up a lot of useless comments in that topic which were nothing related to development at all
please keep all chatters in General
feel free to open a new topic for the specific ROM in question
but do not CLUTTER the Development topic with comments that provides no value in the development.
I feel for you guys, You post that people not to go off topic then people posting like you didnt just tell them not to go off topic.
The people even reading this post are the people who probably don't need to be told. It Sucks because the annoying posters are ruining it for those following the rules. The most I type in a dev thread is f5 sigh.

I think they should probably close the thread for a day or two which would force people to make a thread in general. The mod warnings seem to be immediately ignored

It would just be easier for us to report the people who don't follow. People forget about the report button.
The same moderator has to clean one of the threads twice already. I wish all the Dev threads were cleaned up. There's a lot of garbage in a lot of them. People posting first, second, third.....downloading now, will report later. Or thanks! Your awesome.....there's a thank button for a reason.

Its kinda hopeless right now because if you look at the threads. A mod will clean it up and put up a notice to stay on topic and literally minutes later it will go back to offtopic posts.

Wait, what? How does that logic work?
It is easier for us to to go through and report each post so that a moderator is forced to look over each one and decide if it should be deleted or not than it would for people to act responsible for their own crap and just not post worthless stuff in a dev thread?
Sure it might be easier for me to just report each post instead of trying to educate anyone, but now because one person is doing whatever they please I have to report them AND a moderator has to take the time to go and delete it.

Aside from the fact that people are reporting people, it just doesnt stop and keeps going faster than the 60 second between reports rule sometimes
Well, now the thread is closed. Those who made it happen by posting useless crap will probably not learn anything from it either. Sigh.
I have a quick question in regards to that RaverX thread that just closed:
For those of us that DO want to follow the rules and prefer to follow the progress of the ROM, where do we go from here? I know the ROM is on sourceforge, so I can at least see if there are updates.
Should this have just been a PM, or are there others that share this curiosity?
ICS is awesome, but a lot of n00bs I have never seen post a single comment around here started posting out of nowhere lol.
I'm going to do something productive rather than be annoyed by these n00bs. I suggest you guys do the same.
I came from the G2 forum and own a sensation also. There seem to be more inconsiderate people here than either of those forums. I for one am glad those threads got shut down.

There's no need. You may as well delete it. First off, most likely you won't get a reply because currently alpha0 is the latest version. Next, you've listed problems that developer is fully aware of and is working to fix them. Patience is needed. alpha1 is out on Saturday. You should pay attention to the forum posts for CM9.
In addition: questions DO NOT go in dev! ESPECIALLY not as their own thread. Please post in General from now on!

MOD EDIT: BEFORE POSTING ANY THREAD IN THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:
If you have developed a ROM, or are working with others to do so, the development forum is somewhere to discuss and share ideas, post useful feedback and logs or crash dumps, and to discuss a common goal developers are trying to achieve.
It is NOT the place to post your question because it gets higher traffic, or because more experienced users frequent it. Doing this just annoys those who are working on the device, and drives them away. Developers don't want to wade through 20 threads of "Help me urgently" to find their threads for porting and fixing camera issues etc. Similarly, if a thread is designated as discussion for developers say, porting a camera fix, please do not post in there asking "When will it be ready?", "Can I flash this yet?" etc. This is both completely disrespectful to those working on the project (you evidently haven't read the important posts in the thread), and also is making it harder for developers to find comments from other developers or testers when required.

I think that was a typo, he meant 50 posts. Junior members are from 1-49 posts I believe as well, then members are from 50-99, then senior member after that.
Edit: I confirmed that it is actually junior member from 1-29 posts, then member from 30-99, then senior member after that.
Post count
Junior members are 0-9
Member 10 -99
Senior member - 100 +
the snr member one should be higher, I don't consider myself as a snr member
Should be more ranks.. like Veteran and Ol´Timer. Also, It shouldn't be based on post count entirely but also on how long you have been a member.

No because I reckon that's unfair. Somebody may have been member for like three years but barely done anything whereas somebody who is has been a member for smaller amount of time can have a higher post rate but I do agree with the more ranks idea
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA
Ranks should be based on helpfulness and amount of time here both. 3 ranks. Leecher---u just creep around never helping and downloading everyone's work without ever giving helpful feedback or learning anything. Member---u contribute when u can and have tried to help other members in a respectful manner, as well as being a member of xda for at least 6 months. And finally, Jedi---u have donated, helped members at every turn, have been a member for at least 1 year, have a post count of 1000 +, and at least 10 people must be able to give positive feedback about you here.

Positive feedback is only for buying/selling devices through the market and not everyone does that. Edit: I knew I had seen this earlier.

I'll sum it up for you (or try, anyway!)
There are Junior Members, Members, Senior Members first. These make up the vast majority of XDAs userbase.
Recognised Contributors are nominated by other users and/or Mods/Developers. They are recognised for their contributions which are not specifically Development, such as detailed guides, one-click utilities and other tools/mods.
Recognised Themers are also nominated by users/Mods/Developers, for their work themeing custom ROMs and providing standalone themes for flashing.
Recognised Developers are nominated and approved by the Developer Committee, for their work in Development whether it be ROMs, Root methods, bootloader unlocks etc.
Elite Recognised Developers are again assessed by the Developer Committee, and are deemed to have gone above-and-beyond in providing knowledge/hacks/tools/apps/ROMs for the XDA community.
Forum Moderators are appointed by the Moderator Committee, after submitting an application (see the 'sticky' at the top of this forum - currently applications are not open). They are the first-line of keeping the forums tidy, friendly and orderly.
Senior Moderators are the next step up the ladder, providing site-wide support for Forum Mods and looking after the nitty-gritty issues, as well as areas of XDA not policed by FSMs, such as the Marketplace.
Administrators are next. There are several Admins - each look after a specific part of XDA such as the Portal, the Members and the User Experience of XDA as a whole.
At the top is Mike Channon, who is overall Forum Administrator.
Other titles you may come across:
Moderator Committee - sits on the Mod Committee
Developer Committee - as above, but for Developer Committee
XDA Newswriter - publishes articles for the Portal (front page)
Retired xxxx - have since officially 'left' their XDA position
Hopefully that clears most of them up for you

I personally they should have a rank called "XDA's Aid" and it should be you need to have over 500+ posts, have 750+ thanks and has a good reputation spelling and someone what helps XDAs users out.

I disagree with this category. "Just creeping around" i.e. reading a lot, learning a lot and sure, downloading, is exactly what we want newbies to do rather than immediately posting questions that have been asked before. If it's possible to categorise to that extent based on forum browsing behaviour, then I suggest this group be called Noble Learners.
Lol if you're going for posts, you could add in where you actually post. Normal XDA members can't access what amounts to probably 80% of my posts because they're in the special boards where you can't read them.

Change "Min.10 posts policy"

Hi
I am a junior member of XDA but I have a good experience of flashing ROMs. But the problem is that I cannot post any review/reply about that ROM due to this policy by which you should have minimum 10 posts. I understand that development-purpose threads are for developers but this policy restricts us to do any sort of development-related discussion even if we are capable of doing so. So I would request XDA to please remove the policy. Thanks.
Oh great. Another one of these threads...
It's only 10 posts. It's NOT 50, 100 or anything. It's ONLY 10. You're already half way there so go and help some people in your devices Q&A section to get your other 5 posts.
If your excuse is going to be that you haven't got the knowledge to help people out, then you have no need to post in development.
In fact, I pretty much guarantee you'll have nothing relevant to post in a development thread anyway.

If you can contact an administrator or senior mod, they may be able to help lift your restrictions. But you have to be able to convince them that you are knowledgeable. This is not guaranteed. Easiest thing to do is to hang out in the General Forums and help other new members so as to attain your 10 posts.
I'm personally tired of threads like these. Funny, I don't see anyone anywhere complaining about lifes rules. What's the difference here? Everyone here had to adhere to this rule, why should you or anyone else be any different? I just don't get it...
Ohh!!

Well, removing isn't really an option, that would allow idiots to spam noob questions after 1 day.
But I've been here since mid 2011, been reading a lot, just not posting anything.
And I still have to meet the 10 posts rule. Maybe it's an idea to have either 10 posts, or being on the forum for a certain amount of time and have an x amount of pageviews or something.
Nonetheless, rules are rules, and rules are not to be broken :good:
For all you 10 post whiners in this thread, have a look at this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166989
A thread created by a new member. 4 of his 5 posts are uuseless threads ffor which answers can be easily found by a bit of searching, what would happen now if this Guy was let loose in the development forum? I am not saying that all of you are like this. I have also seen some members whose first post was an extremely informative thread, but that's at a minority. Rules are rules and they are there for a reason, i realized this after staying on xda for more than 1.5yrs
