Hi Guys,
So I got my M9 yesterday and its awesome. The ony problem is that it does not auto rotate.
I have turned auto rotate on and off, no diffrence.
I have done the G-sensor calibration tool in display settings. The top bar does not move (Guess thats the problem one).
I have loaded the phone up in safe mode and done the G-sensor thing. Still not working.
The only time the screen rotates is when a app forces it to rotate. like in a game, camera app, and youtube.
I only noticed this late last night.
I have yet to do a factory reset as I am at work. Once home I will give it a try.
Any one got any ideas?
Sense never rotated whilst sober..
So I have done a factory reset. No change.
Got it at 3 (UK), they said I can do a swap.
Hopefully 2nd device will will rotate...

Not fully true, i think Sense 3.5 had it, but they removed it again after.
Could be 4.5 too, tho i'm not 100% sure, but i remember back with the Sensation that eventually a new Sense came that allowed rotation of Sense itself.
You're talking about Manila yeah? it was modded i.e. not that much sober..
I've got exactly the same issue on a UK SIM-free model. The Motion Launch gestures don't work either.
Did you get the issue sorted?
I got it swapped for a new device which works.
From what I understand the sensor was just broke. Don't know how though. It didn't seem like it was a software problem but more a hardware issue.
3 did the exchange after they had a little play with it. Was a quick swap.
That's good mate, I'm glad Three sorted it out for you.
Hope Amazon can help me out!
What a shame, sham
I have the same problem only I bought a privacy screen from Otterbox. I really dont want to swap for the Auto Rotate and G Sensor problem only to purchase another screen (Which I applied flawlessly). I have the Verizon HTC M9 Brand out of the box I had these issues. Its annoying when playing a game or trying to take a picture for it not to auto adjust the orientation. I've done the factory restore as the HTC rep suggested after I told him this happened out of the box I really feel like these support people don't listen to what the users are saying. Now I'm supposed to go back to my Verizon carrier and swap phones to setup again for the 3rd time... ridiculous!
Sidenote: this phone gets way too hot and the picture quality/stabilization is worse than the M8

I got the same thing my auto rotate work then stop working have re set my phone 3 time and it happening but my bf got same phone but he his don't
This may sound funny..I had the same issue with my new M9. Had it for about 3 weeks then the problem occured. I tried these steps to no avail:
1. Restart
2. remove installed apps
3. Calibrate
4. Calibrate on Safe mode
5. Reset phone to Factory
I was about to call HTC until I saw another dude posted an unusual solution.. I didn't pay attention to him because it was silly but it did fix mine.
During calibration, I noticed that the top sensor is not moving, only the one at the bottom.. WHat I did, While on the calibration page, I dropped my phone about 6 inches to the carpet..did it twice until you see the top sensor also move. Then do the calibration..I have a dot view case so I would prefer u to drop the corner with a protective case on it...
If you have warranty and you have timne, then call warranty support...
Cheers..

Hi,
My Desire's screen rotates perfectly when I rotate the phone from portrait to landscape, with the buttons facing to the right.
However, when I then rotate phone back to portrait, the screen doesn't rotate itself. If I go back to the home screen and launch the app again it displays in portrait mode. This occurs in all applications I've tried (Internet browser, Maps, Mail). I've recalibrated the g-sensor numerous times but this doesn't help.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix it?
Thanks,
Noggin
Unfortunatly (for you) Mine is fine, Looks like it is an isloated incident
Have you Hard Reset your Phone? Might reset the G-Sensor Fully. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Just wanted to post back that killyouridols suggestion of a hard reset solved my problem. Many thanks for the help.

This has happened again and I'm loathe to do another hardware reset. Has anyone else had similar problems?
Hi,
I have the same problem, except it won't rotate from portrait to landscape. Did a factory reset which worked, re installed all previous apps, rotate still worked fine. Battery ran out and turned itself off, charged it overnight, turned it on this morning, and the rotate problem is back, ie no rotation.
Will do another factory reset, but this time I'll be selective over the apps I reinstall in case it has anything to do with one of those - what do you think? Could it be a software issue relating to an app???

Restore to factory default. Make sure you back up contacts to sim and any apps (sign up to AppBrain and sync) etc
Hi, I have the same issue. It started after I calibrated.
I have to shake the device for it to return to portrait mode.
Is this normal?
Fixed mine

Hi guys
i have a strange issue on my device, since stock ROM i guess, the problem is follows:
my screen just go black sometimes i thing it happend only when a call is in progress or when call is ended by the third part, the screen just stay black and no solution but uplug battery and start up the phone
i had this problem eaven on my stock Rom froyo 2.2, then i try leedroid 2.3 and it was ok i guess, then i try oxygen rc6 everything works superb, fast, clean, smooth but the black screen occures multiple times in one day (today around 3 times) so i was forced to return to my stock froyo 2.2 and hopes will be ok,
the problem is as i search thru internet... seems like one of the sensors works baddly, i think is the proximity sensor, what can i do? should i sent my device to repair? i realy appriciate any help and suggestions and ideas how can fix this problem....
still no solution it happens on stock froyo 2.2 too but in smaller period as on oxygen rc6, i try set --- display off to value 30 minute from previously 2 minutes and problem dont occured for last 2 days
this might seem like an ovbious answer but when your making a call the desire has a light/proximity sensor to the left of the top htc logo that turns the screen black when it senses something, this is to stop you pushing buttons with your ear.
i dont mean to insult your intelligence or anything, just saying ya know if it happens when not in a call it sounds like a software issue
i already know that, searchin a lot about this problem mate trust me, i also know when the proximity sensor is located and what is his function but the issue happening only when a call is made never happend just like that so i thing no sw prob, using stock froyo 2.2 now no root just a clean official and it happens like 2 times per day when i was calling more that 2 minutes when i set in setting--display to turn off screen in 10 minutes this problem dont show up soo i dont know realy maybe i sent my device to reklamation will see
This happens me with root and without root. It's when your using anything that has with the SD card to do with. Like the gallery, it has gone black for me to under a call though... I dont know how to fix this problem, and it's very frustrating to take out the battery all the time.
My friend i am working in mobiles but i couldn't guess the problem cause i bought my cousin this HTC desire until she removed the screen guard (( the plastic sticker for protect the screen)) from the screen and i solved the problem so easily.
Best of luck
true is that i am using Zagg shield, but this cannot solve the problem cuz i try few days without any screen protector and the problem was still there,
but i guess i solve this problem few months ago, i notice that the black screen after call happend when my network is set to "GSM only" strange but since i use WCDMA only the problem is gone, dont know surely but guessing, also when i use mobile network in gsm only mod, phone freezes totaly and only unplug battery helps, as i said since i am using wcdma/hsdpa/3g only non of these strange thing happens
hope this help for someone

Hi all,
This was happen to me last few day and i google whole world, finally i find my answer and i hope it was help for those who facing this kind of problem.
I can confirm this problem no related to rooted or without rooted phone. this problem definitely come from the proximity sensor which people highlighted this sensor located at top left of htc logo which u can see a blue color circle there.
Try watch this video of disassemble htc desire and you will find the way to clean this proximity sensor area.
Tools to use for dis-assembly:
1. Philips screw driver.
2. Torx screw driver
Cleaning tools:
1. a wet small cotton buds.
Hope this method can help.
Area to clean:
1. The proximity sensor which you will see covered by a black rubber
2. The casing area which i show on photo.

Hi,
Factory reset - done!
Flash Android 2.3 - done!
I had the original Android 2.2 before, so the software is not the reason for my HTC Wildfire display problem.
Display image is moving up/down, the line of notification with signal, battery level..., is going in the middle, bottom of display and so on.... I have a screenshoot and a picture made with a very bad mobile camera, but hope to be enough!
I think few water drops inside 3.5 mm audio jack could be the reason, the warning LED(red one) is not working too.
Had someone the same issue? A way to fix this?

...menu bar is floating from bottom to top, pushing all icons/options and it is nearly impossible to hit the right icon/option. Also when there is a keyboard, it moves up and down but it always reacts when pressed on position where it should normaly stand.
Thanks! So... I'm not the only one with this issue.
I think the reason for this screen it's because i dropped the phone before (3-4 days), but not noticed this right in that moment...
Anyway, I easy dropped the phone with intention several times recetly and the screen was OK for a day... don't know what can it be...
I'll try to find out how can be this problem fixed in a service and how much have to pay for all this...
After all, it seems my display don't want to turn on anymore.
I turned on my phone and it's working, it's able to receive calls with no problem, digitizer is working too because I can answer by tapping the known part of display where is that button!
I want to buy a new display and replace it. Could be anything else that make my display not turning on?
I just got the Tab S 8.4 yesterday and I am trying to figure if I am missing something. My screen will not rotate, it will stay in portrait mode all the time, it will not go to landscape mode on anything...youtube, internet, gallery, etc. Yes...the SCREEN ROTATION is on in settings. I have turned it on and off and still nothing. I even went ahead and did a reset. Still nothing.
Am I missing something?
Probably not, just need to return it. Something might be wrong with its hardware or software that will not make the screen rotate.
Is screen rotation highlighted when you pull down the notification panel? If it is download SENSOR BOX FOR ANDROID from play and see if the orientation sensor is working.

Screen Rotation is highlighted when I pull down the notification panel. I will download the app and check it out. I mean, what can I do anyways if it does show that the sensor is working correctly?
Are you using a different launcher?

at least you will know the hardware is working. You could also try SET ORIENTATION from play to see if you can force it.

Set orientation did work. It did change the orientation of the screen from portrait to landscape. But it stood that way, meaning everything was either going to be stuck in portrait mode or landscape.
As for the launcher...its stock touchwiz. I have not tried any other launchers.

im not home with the tablet yet. All those things I did yesterday night. I will try the sensor test first thing when i get home.
Ok, I downloaded app and no good. The gyroscope sensor did not move correctly. The accelerometer sensor showed me the worse. The ball just rolled to the top right corner and stood there. Did not move at all, even when I slam down on any direction. Returning this tablet.
Thanks everyone.

I bought an Open Box for about $90 off from Best Buy, the 10.5 Tab S, and had the same issue with no rotation of screen. I only tested it with other programs that will change orientation for you, and it worked then, but not automatically, only when using the app. I checked all settings, including accessibility, I flushed the cache using the Recovery mode, but no luck. I did get lucky though at Best Buy, as they were awesome and ended up giving me a brand new one in exchange, without any additional charge. There may be some manufacturing defects in the sensors that are causing these issues. Good luck to you too sir.
Ive seen it said that some people, who've had the same problem, gave the tablet a sharp slap on the back to fix it.

i know this thread is 1 year old however i purchased a brand new S2 8 inch tablet from canada computers and it too will not rotate the screen on its own. If i use a 3rd party software it has no issues rotating but it stays that way until i rotate it otherwise manually. Brand new less than 1 day old and i already have to warranty it with Samsung disappointed that such a premium tablet having an issue out of the box. Also all sensor software in install all indicate there are no sensors installed.
Edit: ok now everything works great and all sensors work now on Sensor Box. I had to do a hard cache reset of the cache partition using that dos look alike menu at startup.

This confuses me since the Android settings Backup / Restore has "Factory Reset" which I did twice and it didn't work, then I pressed power button, volume up and home button to bring up the other menu on bootup and selected the format cache partition option. This resolved the issue and was happy I didn't loose my data unlike the backup/restore had wiped all my data. Is that still considered a factory reset? I did see the option to factory reset but didn't select it, I opted to try the cache partition instead which I was glad had worked. Saved me from taking my new unit back to be repaired.
theres an app called bubble level (spirit level) i used to re-calibrate my sensor since there isn't a built in way anymore, if the slapping doesn't work or you don't wanna risk it try that.
So not sure why but noticed my auto rotate is no longer working. It's definitely switched on. Tried it with face detection too with no change. I am using RICE Renovate, Minot Substratum theme and Repainter. It's not RICE as I turned it off and problem still persists. Don't think it's Minot as I deactivated the System UI tweak with no change. Repainter, I disabled theming and still no bueno. Have rebooted and togglef auto rotate quick toggle on and off. What could be causing this?
So I did some digging and confirmed my accelerometer is stuck on the y axis at -156. I've tried hitting the phone to correct it but no dice. Going to chat with Google tomorrow and get this phone replaced. Already had to have the screen replaced first month I had it.
Just more and more problems...

Google is sending me a replacement device however it says on the order form it's refurbished which doesn't make me happy. We'll see what condition it's in when it arrives but there is no way I can go on with a broke. Accelerometer sensor.
