So I was looking at root methods for my Kindle hd and came across " key root master" app. On a whim, and because I can always flash back down to 4.4.4 if it messed up my phone I tried it on the ol'note 4 running 5.0.1
While I knew it wouldn't root I just wanted to see. And after running it and not getting root I decided to look in the system/app folder. Somehow, somewhere it managed to install rootpa.apk into my write protected folder. Maybe this could help find a method, maybe I'm retarded and it has nothing to do with root. Either way, wanted to share.

Any chance you could post a link to it so everyone who is working on this has the exact version you used if this is anything in the right direction?

Not going to lie on this though. It a shady as hell of an app.
This is the xda thread that lead me to look into the app.

Haha, that's what a quick search brought me. I'll show this to the folks over on the rooting thread if i get the same result :good:
Yeah, I've even looked for a site for the app but have yet come up with one. Like I said, if it screwed up my phone I'd just flash 4.4.4 then go through the 5.0.1 update process again if I had to.
Really was just interested in seeing exactly what the app did, be it root or malware.

I might have misread the OP and RootPa.apk has nothing to do with getting root access. This was there from the time you bought the phone, unfortunately.
Oh :/ hadn't seen it before so I associated it with the root app.

Sorry, mate. Good observation, though. :good:

Yes. And after it changes to a bak file like how I want it to. But then I leave the app, do a reset, or even delete it completely and its back! As an apk file as if I never touched it? WTF
What are u trying to do with it. Get apktool if u want to decompile an apk

go into recovery and see if it says S-ON or S-OFF at the top. If it says S-ON then your not fully rooted, and you need to find what software version you have and find the appropriate rooting instruction thread. Thats one thing that can definately be holding you up

Personally I would just redo all the steps to root your phone. If your having an issue removing an apk then the rooting of the phone somehow along the way went wonkers. If you can open a terminal app type "su" and superuser.apk asks to accept it and you have S-OFF. Something is a muck and I would re-root the thing. if you have 2.02/2.10 then unrevoked won't work for you.

Dude I got the whole thing taken care of in like 5 minutes no joke. I checked the HBoot and it said S-On so I googled how to turn it off in the evo. Google took me back to the unrevoked website and I read up on the unrevoked forever page and it literally answered all of my questions and solved them with a simple zip flash. I checked the HBoot just now and it said S-Off. I just tried to change the name of the Htclockscreen apk file to a bak file and see if it changes back. Still a bak file after the hot restart and I got the Aops lockscreen now.
I gotta hand it to not just the Unrevoked team but the entire android community as well. These guys are the best ive seen when it comes to supporting the end user and making sure that everyone has a good time. Their the best community ive ever come across online.
And thanks man, for the help.
I second unrevoked forever. Just a simple flash turns s-off.
Edit: didn't notice op said he got it all worked out. Thought It was a suggestion.

Here's a basic stock rom in case you need it sometime
the only modifications made are the su and flash_image binaries are included and ro.secure has been turned to 0 so you can adb remount.
How to flash download the rom from here
Place rom on sdcard
wipe data and all else
then flash rom
reboot and do what you need to do
Cool, you never know when you might need this.
Thank you! Appreciated.

How is this comparable to the rom listed here?
bit ly backslash fBEJnU
I want to have a known working recovery before I make any more changes to my phone. I am not exactly a newbie to this stuff (I have a Pandigital Novel that has been rooted and hacked into a nice tablet) but this is taking things to a whole new level for me and I need my phone. So I'm a bit nervous.
Of course I really wish I'd asked around some before I got to work on removing some of the stuff on it already (mostly known junkware from Virgin Mobile and stupid stuff like weblinks pretending to be native apps) after rooting it with superoneclick and installing root explorer. I need to know if your rom or the one I linked to will be able to allow me to roll back to a default installation that I can revert to if there are any issues down the road. Can you help me?
I apologize if this isn't the right place for this question. Thank you for the many mods I have seen you do already. I look forward to trying them once I have a fallback plan.

Forgive my ignorance, but isn't rooting actually a requirement of obtaining the backup? Or did I misread the instructions somewhere? It'd be nice if someone at Virgin Mobile were to leak the complete rom somewhere so people had a fall back option besides trying to return the phone as bricked. (If that's even possible?)

Sounds like a good reason to pick a forum. Not sure if I'm a member of any places that do that since I run with adblock and noscript enabled most of the time.
Any chance you could link me to written instructions on how to flash the rom you have here? I know you have video tutorials but those are harder to follow for me because I am hard of hearing. Music I can do because it is "beautiful noise" and I can usually find some lyrics to get the words of. Your video HOWTOs are not good for me because I have to strain to hear what is being said.
Thanks again for your time and patience in replying to me.

Thanks. Dude above me, there is a rom flashing tutorial at prepaidandroids.net. We will help you out there. Its a site that specializes in on the Optimus v itself.
(Optimus V - Contracts Suck)
Thanks for posting this. It just came in handy when I was changing my virgin phone number. Part of the process is dialing ##841446# to bring up the activation menu, but the ## prefix on CM7 does not work, apparently only a stock ROM can do that.
Any way to put it on a phone friendly site? No matter what browser I use on my phone it will not download from google docs.

THANKS, this worked perfectly.
It's pretty much as described, a stock Opt V rom, with Super User already set up and installed.
Titanium worked on it no problem as well.
thanks a ton man! i needed to flash back to stock to get my 3G working again. if you flash a custom rom while youre between payments, you know, during down time, you may need to flash back to stock and run the activation app next time you put service on your phone.
worked like a charm. i thought my 3G was broken. im doing a happy dance now!

Hi
So far, anyone found a way to root the ZTE V768 (Concord) ?
Anyway to upgrade to 3.0?
Thanks
Michel
I too would like to see this rooted. Then maybe I can delete some of those factory installed apps I would never use.
ZTE lists a way to manually upgrade the firmware for a Concord (V768) with a PC running Windows. Maybe it can be used somehow to root this device?
I can't post the link because I'm a new user, but just search for the Concord on the ZTE USA website.

But if you ask what next, it's installing a recovery so you can change ROM ..., I can let you search in the general topic there are a few methods to install recovery, I did it last week, only one worked for me, the app Autorec on GooglePlayStore.

I'm a computer savvy person, but this was my first experience with rooting. I just wanted to be sure I did it right. Turning my LG G3 from T-mobile and debranding it. I did get a belly up icon of the little green android, with the word error under him when I tried to remove some bloatware, but a battery pull seems to have fixed that.
Hi there,
A while back I updated my already rooted Z1C to the newest firmware 14.6.A.1..236 via PC Companion. I thought it was just a minor update so I did not think of losing my root access
As far as I know all I can do now in order to get back my lovely root privileges is by going back to Kitkat, install Dualboot Recovery, put my pre rooted Android on my phone and flash it.
So here is my question:
Is there any fancy way of doing this more directly? I would much prefer not having to fiddling around with backups, which may or may not restore all my data...
I would also be interested in why I can't just flash the flashable.zip directly onto my phone using Flashtool or similar. As an IT student I would really like to learn this kind of stuff
Thanks in advance!

You can get root with KingRoot app and then you can change it to SuperSu with this guide:
Code:

(I know that the guide is somewhere in XDA, but can't find it.) I have tested the procedure and for me it worked.

Thanks for your fast reply. However, after googling the App while the download was still going I found several articles which found the App not trustworthy. Trying to download the App from their site directly even gave my a very clear warning. So I'd rather use something else :/
I think the best reasons against the App can be found here:

If, however, a more experienced and credible user (sorry foguh, this is nothing personal ) can recommend the App as well, I might give it a shot...

There are 381 pages about KingRoot, I am not entirely sure is it only about people begging for specific root methods, but I believe there could be some convincing posts about it. And I don't trust KingRoot that much myself, that is why I included the post how to replace KingRoot with SuperSu.
Nothing taken personally though, just trying to provide solution for you, which worked for me
I am still unsure of the App but as it seems to be the easiest option I installed it and rooted my phone with it.
Everything went quite smoothly. One thing I really didn't like however is the required internet connection during rooting. Normally this tells me immediately that its fetching some malware and I get my hands off...
Of course I also immediately replaced their App with SuperSU but I am still worried it might placed more on my phone than it claims.... Let's hope for the best
Anyhow, thanks a lot to you foguh! It's really nice to get so quick and helpful responses and I appreciate the effort

Glad I could help!
As far as I am aware, the internet connection during rooting process is for fetching the correct root method for the phone (and that damn Purify app.)
But if you are worried that there could be some other leftovers, you can monitor the network traffic of your phone to be 100% sure. And of course go through the files manually. (Personally, I haven't bothered to do it, I trust people too much)
The easiest way to say "Thanks!" is to hit the button below!
