Hey all,
I just recently lost my HTC one M8 and replaced it with an HTC One M8 from HongKong. It just let me update to 4.4.3 but now won't let me update to 4.4.4 or even 5.0. I had an HTC One M8(x) previously and I am living and working in China but that updated fine. This new one however won't. It looks and feels real, is there an app that I can run which can detect if it's a fake?
Thanks guys. Any infro would be of help. I have 4 days left to return to them for a full refund.
Surely wherever you bought it from is a clue. If you bought it from a reputable store then it's real. No question.
Get an app from the playstore. Like device info or such. Just hit in that and something will pop up
Even better is to boot into the bootloader and post here what it says !
Hold power button & volume up, when the screen goes black you switch from volume up to down and keep them pressed until you see the bootloader

Hi everyone.
Received may phone yesterday. Powered up and did all the wizard stuff (date, time, GMT, etc).
Phone booted into Sense interface. Took a look at some menus and decided to turn off the phone (I was at work and had no time to let it charge). Then the first bug. After trying to power off, the HTC screen froze. Had to take the battery off.
Came home and tried again. Froze on the HTC screen on start up.
Looked for some info on Google and found a lot of people with similar problems. Some answers (including here) pointed to a volume down + power action, followed by a clear storage option.
Did that.
The phone buzzed seven times on HTC screen and froze again.
Tried fastboot, froze.
Tried clear storage again, froze.
What's my option beside that?
All I found is this same procedure.
Tried with and without the SD card. With and without SIM card. With battery, with USB cable, with both...
Always freezing on the HTC screen.
After some minutes on the HTC screen the phone seems a little warm.
I didn't root it, so it had Android 2.1 on it. Didn't change a bit. It's quite difficult to find someone with a problem like this (can't even get to theSense UI) without haven't tried to root.
Any help is really appreciated.
Thanx.
This all points towards hardware failure/production faults so don't even bother with fixing it yourself. Just take it back to the store you bought it or send it to HTC for repair.
Damn, that sux! :/
My first HTC phone.
Never had any problem with my X10 mini. Just wanted a bigger screen.
I don't like Motorola and Samsung Galaxy seems too big.
Have to think now about getting another Desire.
Thanx for the reply.
Out of interest, how long did you wait on the HTC screen? It can take a few minutes to boot on the stock ROM
Some good minutes.
Why buy a new one, this should be under warranty? Did you bought this one second hand?
You cloud try to run a RUU but if it's a new phone I wouldn't bother with because it increased the chance you brick it and lose the warranty.
I bought it on an ebay like site.
I already contacted the seller and she asked me to send it back. But I was hoping I could do something to make it work.
Unfortunately she doesn't have another one to send me. So I'll get a refund for now.
The seller told me she can get another Desire only on February 15th.
I don't know if it's worth the wait.
I can ask for a refund and buy from another seller right away. And I think it's better, because I can't stand waiting so long for something I already paid for.
Hi,
I bought HTC One X via ebay. My sim card was a normal sim so I had to cut it to a micro sim before inserting it into One X. Now the problem is my phone's screen is not responding to any touch. I tried restarting and also tried doing factory reset. Still no luck.
Screen shows Network Provider Name and date and time on top (Time does change) and on bottom there is a half circle near the middle. The Power button and Volume up/down buttons works. And also I hear notification sounds occasionally along with vibration.
Any help appreciated.
Also I noticed that I did not get the initial setup configuration when I started the phone. Is there any way to trigger it?
Contact the seller and get a replacement sounds like you got a dud...

if you can, then try to go into the stock recovery (I think its vol dwn+ power, atleast in other HTC phones this was the case), and clear data, and then do a factory reset from the recovery itself.
hope this helps. I am waiting for my X to get delivered and after reading about so many problems, keeping my fingers crossed that I get a problem-free one.

There is no option to clear data in the recovery. I tried the factory rest but it didn't help.
^^in that case contact both the seller and ebay

I have intimated the seller already. Also I talked with HTC customer care center (btw which is pretty good. We can talk with them 7 days a week from 9AM to 8PM). They have asked me to take this to a HTC service center and let those folks take a look before I return this.
The seller must have specified a return policy. Usually it is 7days. Make sure you return the product to the seller before that.
Hi,
My sister's phone (HTC One X) has been acting crazy lately. The screen suddenly became blank (black). Soft keys lights come on/off though but the screen always black.
I tried to do hard reset using vol/down + power but couldn't get that menu up on the screen, just blank.
I'm sure it's not rooted but not sure what stock firmware on the phone. Any idea how to kick the phone out of this freeze / hang ?
Cheers,
Abdul
more over, holding the powerbutton for 10 sec (soft reset) does nothing to the phone !
really strange thing and don't know how to fix it.
I would appreciate your help.
Sounds like hardware failure, most likely the screen is dead. I doubt any software updates will revive it

Thanks Orjan, I always thought HTC is more reliable than this. I opened a ticket with HTC, I hope they answer back tomorrow.
Cheers
Yeah I thought so too but it seems like one x are haunted with hardware problems. Have not seen so many hardware failures on any other thread before, I think HTC might have rushed this one to get ahead of the competitions. I really miss my one x I had too turn it over to the store the microphone wasn't working properly.

Ok, quick update, HTC US said they can't fix the phone since its International version, they offered me AT&T version for free , not totally happy since the international version comes with quad CPU vs dual for AT&T.

my wife just got her htc one x today. opened it up, turned it on.....phone turned off while she was putting in her account details. when turned back on its stuck on the boot screen and saying its for developers only. any way to fix this? when plugged in theres no charging light or anything. please help
anyone? really wanna know if i'll need a replacement before i've even got to use it
Press and hold the power button and volume button till you get to the hboot screen. Tell me what it says there, either 'locked,' 'relocked,' or 'unlocked.' And whether it says S OFF or S ON below it. Tell me this and I'll tell you how to fix it

When there is a saying for developers only in red color, it means that One X is not a brand new, someone already unlock the bootloader and flash an old version of CWM on it. It is best to get a replacement if you meant to buy a brand new device.
And it get stuck on boot screen due to low battery.

Or, it could be that the person relocked the bootloader while on a custom ROM. But like the OP said, it randomly rebooted, WHILE it was being used. @OP, try running an RUU after checking if the bootloader is locked/relocked

sorry for late replies guys. yes to confirm it was brand new, just out of the box for a minute, bought from dial a phone in the uk which is a big retailer. it came sim free as most of their phones do. Simply opened the box, turned on and it turned off during the input of details, ie our wifi password to be exact.
After that came the red writing with developers only, now nothing. been on the charge all day, still no charging light. tried the wall socket, tried via usb to 2 pc's, and the volume/power thing doesn't work either. how long should we need to hold it to do that?

Hold volume down and power for about 10-15 secs.

Hold power and volume down for a while, phone will boot into bootloader, what does it say exactly?
Sounds like you may have got a test device by accident, not necessarily a bad thing if you plan to custom rom?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
tried it guys for 15 secs at least with no joy. seems to be dead. no charging light. seems quite a few people have seen the red writing. not into custom roms really as it'll be for my wife and she likes stock.

Oh, so its not booting into bootloader because batterys dead xD
Power the phone off, plug it into a wall charger, and leave it for atleast a few hours, it'll charge, and then boot it into bootloader and tell us what it says

I recently had the BSoD on my One x (rooted and flashed with custom rom) I could not boot into bootloader, see the screen when turned on etc due to a constant black screen.
I decided, what the hell, lets try for a repair at HTC, the worst that would happen is they would charge me for the repairs.
Well... To cut a long story short (after waiting 3 1/2 weeks for my phone to come back).... HTC sent me a HTC One!
Just wondering if anyone else has had this instance or if it was an error on HTC's behalf?
Thanks for reading!

Nothing really, Just general day to day usage of the phone, maybe an hour of gaming, social networking, Gmails etc.. Stated getting graphical glitches about a week before the phone's screen went completely off, but never thought anything of it.
They probably couldn't fix it and were out of One X's so they just sent what they had.
Or maybe it was just a mistake ( someone forgot to add the "X" on some paper )
i know one guy who lives just 20 km from my home and he said he also has to send the phone in ...got back also one...because his hox had also problems with apx like mine...i have to wait till next week or so...my phone couldn't be fixed too...my whole system/mainboard is ****ed up...i will see if i get a new mainboard or even new hox...or if i have luck the htc one
