I was wondering if anyone has the add-on Crunchyroll;xbmc installed and working on their Fire TV. I'm constantly getting a script failed error. The add-on works fine on my pc, so I'm wondering if it just doesn't work on the AFTV or I'm doing something wrong. TIA!

I think you upgrade FirmWare to 51.1.3.0_513011820 & your remote is not at 100%. That is because you have to do the following after a FW update to also update the remote.
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-update-the-amazon-fire-tv-voice-remote-or-game-controller-software/
If not please explain if the lost features are only related to XBCM or ???
no not related to xbmc, actually related to the fire tv itself, i can no longer search for anything, within ftv, it does not recognise that i am searching

So it sound like you upgraded the firmware. You don't need to downgrade. Just follow the guide I posted above to update the FTV remote to match the latest FW & everything should go back to normal.
FTV controllers are known to loose functions after a FW upgrade until you also upgrade the remotes software to the new revision the new FW brought with it. Very easy to do. Just an extra step of FW upgrading.

i thought that was what i did, i went to the settings picked controller, it gave me an update firmware and i selected it and downloaded but since then i had the problems, i now now longer have thr option to update again as it believes it is up to date, any ideas? i have a 2nd ftv, would it be pissible to copy any folders from it across?

That would probably be to complicated...
What Software version (prerooted or stock) is your FireTV @ ?
What Software version is your Remote @ ?
Is you FireTV routed ?
Do you have CWM Recovery installed ?
Will need that info to see what options you have... Could be a bad FW flash.
im just in work so dont have details to hand., fire tv is rooted, i have cwm,

Are you using the pre-rooted FW ?
Also how did you get the new FW to CWM for flashing ? Push to cache (can give problems) or Sideloaded using one of the apss to SDCard & then flashed it from CWM ?
to be honest im not sure i bought it fully rooted with latest firmware and all xbmc/apps installed

So there was a pending update only for the remote which you accepted ?? Did you see the "FireTV Remote update is complete" image ?
http://www.aftvnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/controllerupdate-09.jpg
Did you power cycled the FTV for 20 seconds (Unplug, wait 20 sec & replug it back in) afterwards ? Are you having only voice search problems or text search problems too ?? Try to give a much info as possible.
It's better to do the soft reboot = simultaneously holding down the “Select” and “Play” buttons on the remote for a few seconds until it reboots. ( http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-safely-reboot-and-restart-the-amazon-fire-tv/ )
yes i only updated the remote
i followed the procedure in http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-update-the-amazon-fire-tv-voice-remote-or-game-controller-software/
i may have made a mistake im not sure but it appeared as though it updated as stated in guide.
both voice and text are affected, eg. if i type or say a movie "batman begins" as i type it recognises it and below were i type will be batman begins but when i select it, i then get a return saying somthing like no results returned, but when i do this on my other ftv which i did not update remote it will take me to amazon store and find movie/tv show/music that i searched for
just re your last, i did now power cycle off for 20seconds

Thought you where at device since you just mention doing the 20 sec power cycle. Another way to reboot is simultaneously holding down the “Select” and “Play” buttons on the remote for a few seconds.
Yes version shows in the settings...
http://www.aftvnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/controllerupdate-04.png
You can also unpair it and re-pair it (pair = connected to the FTV)
Well no point of continuing to guess around. Post back once you are @ device.
ok thanks, sorry if u thought was at device, i meant when i updated it i did not power off for 20secs, will post version later

When you get home DON'T do the unplug thing. Just do the simultaneously holding down the “Select” and “Play” buttons on the remote for a few seconds until it reboots. Let it finish rebooting & then check search again.
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-safely-reboot-and-restart-the-amazon-fire-tv/
does not appear to be remote but device itself, the updated remote works fine on new ftv but when i put the new remote on old ftv i have same issue, both remotes on diff firmware, 349/352
.do you know were search folder located in root menu on device and i could replace with new ftv
The app runs and can play shows, but the controls do not work properly. I cannot select the shows I want to watch. I cannot scroll down either unless I use a mouse. I'm still on the latest flashed firmware available for rooted Fire TVs. I can't upgrade without losing root. Has anyone else noticed this happening? Hulu is version 2.5a
Mine is doing the same thing... Basically can't scroll through the Hulu app (down or to the right?). If I push down it's definitely moving through the menus, but I cannot see what is highlighted. Just started a couple days ago.
I was on a previous version of Hulu so I updated it and rebooted, still wasn't working. Then I used Titanium Backup to clear data and rebooted, still not working.
Does appear to work with scrolling using a mouse like you mentioned.
On Rbox's latest rooted ROM (Android 4.2.2). I wonder if they just dropped support for this older ROM version.
Same thing here unfortunately.
Same thing here too
Option 1: Quick bypass the problem with a USB/Bluetooth Mouse or Mouse Toggle for Fire TV App or some other mouse app of your choice.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fluxii.android.mousetoggleforfiretv
Option 2: Get a hold of the prior FTV Hulu APK. There must be some folks here that block app updates on their FTV & can backup & post the prior version of Hulu for you guyz. Find out what version that would be & post the request in the FTV Apps section.
Either way, just patiently wait until TWRP, Boot Menu & PreRooted FireOS 5 ROM gets release in the next few weeks.
The USB mouse allows you to scroll down, but you still cannot select anything accurately. A workaround that I did was to get the 2.24.1 apk from my phone, sideload it, and operate it with a USB mouse. Of course, the quality is garbage and the remote is useless, but it kinda works. I can't get it to stream high quality video either.
Can you sideload the android TV version of Hulu?
Ludacrisvp: Yes. That's what I did , but you need a mouse to operate it and the quality is terrible.
Then you aren't using the android TV version of Hulu. That's the normal phone version.
After disabling the Amazon App Store I was able to install and run the android "Google TV" version of Hulu on my firetv it looks identical to the version that firetv uses.
I'm running version 1.3.0 of Hulu for android / Google TV on the firetv.
i can't get the android TV hulu plus app v1.3.0 to install. it says - install failed. looks like it requires lollipop at the minimum.
I assumed you had updated to a rooted version of fireOS 5
If we could do that, we wouldn't be having these problems.
I thought that like the fire stick there was a window of time where you could update and root with king root?
yes, but i think if you upgrade, your bootloader will be locked (even though you can get root).
Try this older version (2.1.a). Works perfect for me.
So far, this works!
I am having this problem too, has anyone found a solution yet?

Hello,
linux has a "new" gap to get root rights.
android is also affected.
CVE-2016-8655 Linux af_packet.c race condition (local root)
http://seclists.org/oss-sec/2016/q4/607
is it possible to implement this into FireTV2 to get root rights?
I wrote Kingo Support a Mail but they didn't answer yet.
Maybe you have technical know-how for an answer.
thanks
This could be fun to watch...
Root possible on 5.2.1.1 using kingroot
Hi guys.
Just a heads up, tonight I happened to test rootability on my second firetv 2015( that accidentally was allowed an OTA update to 5.2.1.1.)
Checked kingoroot from my PC with an A to A cord, but did not work.
Tried the KingRoot app, success!!!
Have rooted my firetv again with the latest version.
Have pictures of versions but definitely is working.
Flashed the TWRP version 6 using adb and turned off the OTA. Will soon update to non kingrooted version of 5.2.1.1 prerooted by rbox now!!!
Kingroot definitely does not work on 5.2.4.0 yet...

I'm wondering if you are the first or second person to root 5.2.1.1? Congratulations.
The 5.2.4.0 just rolled out 2 days ago for me, and the interface is much better.
Would you mind sharing a brief, detailed, step-by-step on the process you used?

I too would like to know this, maybe I can add it to a guide like this.
Hi, wrote up a longer response but it was deleted before I could post (chrome mobile). Very frustrating.
Short story is used KingRoot not kingoroot.
The KingRoot apk worked to root my 5.2..1.1 firetv2. Ver 551203220.
The version of the KingRoot apk was 4.9.6.
After rooting, used the aftvnews guide to write the TWRP recovery v6 by rbox.
No problems writing the prerooted software afterwards either. Wiped data to get rid of the KingRoot app data and deleted the other junk folders in /sdcard; Tencent, and some other KingRoot/kingoroot folders.
Hope this helps.

You will need a mouse to navigate the app
I tried to do this on my 1st gen. Fire TV that runs on 5.0.5.1 with 4.9.6 but no success. I also tried the latest 5.0.1 of Kingroot but also no success.
Can confirm. This just worked on my 5.2.1.1 Fire TV 2nd Gen.
Edit:
100% Working. Starting from 5.2.1.1, I have installed custom recovery and then upgraded to pre-rooted 5.2.4.0
Basic steps are as follows:
Use the downloader app (or app of your choice) to download the kingroot apk from "https://kingroot.net/download-android-apk/"
The apk/version I received was, "NewKingrootV5.0.1_C165_B375_en_release_2016_12_15_20161215173923_105203.apk"
Run it and follow the on-screen instructions (press the button and wait for it to finish). Nothing to it. You'll need a mouse to navigate the app, however.
Transfer the zip files and custom recovery to /sdcard/ on your fire (you can use adb, usb, ESfileexplorer, whatever).
TWRP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/development/firetv-2-recovery-t3309780
Pre-rooted 5.2.4.0: http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/development/firetv-2-sloane-prerooted-stock-images-t3309783
Install the recovery via adb
Use TWRP (you'll need a keyboard now... ugh) to install the prerooted rom
Use TWRP advanced wipe and clear your Davlik/Cache/Data/Internal Storage so you'll have a nice clean slate (factory reset) to start from.
Enjoy.
PS: You'll go through initial setup again. Hold down the home button on your remote for way longer than you think to get it to pair.
Is there a way to manually update to 5.2.1.1 without root?
KingRoot for PC just fails (connected through USB).
KingoRoot app also fails.
KingRoot app can only be used emulating upward swipes (through adb), but the "Try to root" button is not working through either adb taps or the FTVs-remote.
adb mouse is also not working.. Any idea how to progress?

will this theoretically work with a first gen firestick running 5.2.1.1 or am i wasting my time?
I've personally been trying to replicate this root, and I've only had KingRoot to get stuck on the loading page. Does not progress past that.
So far it seems like it is for AFTV2 only, not for AFTV1 or fire stick. We will soon find out!!
Thanks for the info t3ch42 and ExaltedVanguard
I too can confirm a successful root using KINGROOT v5.01 on a FireTV 2 running v5.2.1.1. (I got KINGROOT from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/one-click-root-tool-android-2-x-5-0-t3107461). I have since flashed rbox's Sloane pre-rooted v5.2.4.0_r1 following instructions from AFTVnews.com
Everything is running great..... by the way, this FireTV 2 was purchased about a month ago, so if you blocked the most recent update, you should be good to root.... Good Luck!
I use FTV4k in Poland. Using apk's I installed Amazon Prime Video (for whatever reason built-in APV doesn't work in Poland, but one from Android TV works fine); Netflix, Apple TV... and HBO Go (Nordic).
For the past year all worked extremely well and stable, but about 2 weeks ago HBO stopped to work. When I run it, it starts, there are a few revolutions of the circle, and then it jumps back to the main menu. I uninstalled the app, reinstalled, I was able to activate it just fine, and right after activation it dropped back to main menu.
I'm using newest version available, Google Play services are also installed in the newest version... I'm out of ideas what else could I try.
Anyone would care to help me?
I've the same problem
As I have noted in this post, the latest update for Fire Stick 4K causes the HBO GO app to crash. The only solution is to root and downgrade (or watch via the Kodi HBO GO addon).
Additionally, the same thing happened with Fire Stick 2nd Gen in the latest update.
HBO GO should issue a fix, but they're unlikely to do so because Fire Sticks aren't supported.
Hello
Could you give me hint How I need downgrade my FSTV4K?
I flashed pre-rooted 2.7.1 then during stick registering auto update install 2.7.3
I disabled OTA then again install 2.7.1.
After that install HBO and try. Not working despite downgrade, so this show that in system there some modified files left.
I suggest that I need backup of 2.7.1 with blocked OTA. Unfortnatly dont have it
I had the same issues. First I thought a full wipe of the system partition would be enough (and flashing the "stock" 2.7.1 via TWRP), but ultimately I had to do a factory reset on 2.7.1, block update servers on my router and skip the updates step in the setup wizard.
Apparently, to pass the update check, but prevent the download, you must block three of the four update servers:
Code:
amzdigital-a.akamaihd.net
amzdigitaldownloads.edgesuite.net
updates.amazon.com
If that doesn't get you past the update screen, you can use the Fire Stick remote Android app on a phone, connect to the stick as soon as it's visible on the local network, putting it to sleep via the app and waking it up via the remote. That did it for me.
There are other ways of passing the initial wizard, they involve modifying build.prop to enable ADB and pushing your adb keys, there was a post about it somewhere. To do this, you have to connect the stick directly (no OTG) and do the boot-fastboot.sh step from the rooting instructions.
Here's an old (apparently patched) version of the app intended for Sony Bravia TV's that works on both 2nd gen and 4K. The icon is purple for some reason and there's no shadow box behind the subtitles, but it works.
I see that the link has been posted in the request section, but I'll leave it here just in case.
