I was looking at the HTC website and see that an off contract M9 is on sale for $650. I would buy one if it will run on Verizon. Unfortunately, HTC list AT&T, Sprint, Tmobile, but no Verizon. See attachment.
Do you think we will ever see on off-contract, developer edition of the M9 for Verizon?

I believe that Verizon is not listed yet is because they have not started their pre-orders yet, which will start on April 1. At that time, I'm sure that VZW will be included on HTC's website.
Will the developer edition work on the Verizon network?

At present, Developer is GSM only, so, no, it's won't work on Verizon.
Will the M9 Unlocked work with Verizon?
I've never bought an unlocked phone so I appologize if this is a noob question, but I did do some searching and didn't come up with any answers.
Will the unlocked M9 work on Verizon?
Thanks!
Very doubtful, usually GSM only.

I just spoke to HTC customer service and they confirmed that both the unlocked and developer's edition are GSM only. No go on Verizon

This is so maddening. I want a 64 GB version of the M9 which runs on Vz and can be unlocked and used with a custom bootloader!!! Pure Google for me.
I am hoping that once the M9 gets into the hands of the XDA developers that they find a way to turn on the Vz bands for the Developer Edition. I am thinking that there is only one hardware version of the M9 with different bands turned on for GSM versus Verizon. That seems to be the case with the S4.

wouldn't it be cheaper to add another line. activate phone. swap sim cards. change phone on new line to non-smart phone. $10/month. Sell your old phone or trade it in for a $100 credit (current promo). If you know someone that could use the extra phone, nice added bonus.
I have 5 lines on my plan and I use my other lines to borrow the upgrades from in order to upgrade every year. plus it's a business plan with only a $175 early termination fee. I've done that once too.
Might be too complicated but it could definitely save money.

No none of the non verizon version m9's will support the verizon bands.
The bands could probably be unlocked but just like the guys did to run the verizon m8's on tmobile there are so many issues with data most lose LTE signal a lot so it sounds like a can of worms.
Honestly I do not feel there would be enough dev support to get this accomplished even though I believe it could be done.
Many devs believe the phones are all the same hardware wise so they believe the carrier type and bands are all set up through software, but unless you know someone at htc willing to help, it probably wont happen, and if they did their job would be on the line.
I"am with you on this as I would like this also as I did on the m8 but just like converting a verizon m8 or m9 to a dev edition its probably not ever going to happen, which that issue is believed to be with the cdma side, as the verizon m8 and m9 are both world phones meaning both cdma and gsm.
You can probably thank verizon for that, as they do not want non verizon phones on their network, and since verizon always requires htc to not allow htc dev to unlock their bootloaders, so you probably wont ever see a dev edition for the verizon service.
This will probably never change until verizon gets knocked down a peg or two and they see at&t and tmobile are gaining ground and they figure out that they have to to be able to compete.
Verizon as a company just thinks they own the market and they do not care about their customers or what their customers want, they only care about what verizon wants and one day that kind of thinking will cost them.

Did you know that on the m9 you can get one free replacement such as if yours gets water damage or broken screen I think, or if you switch carriers htc will swap you out a m9 for the new carrier.
Now on the nexus 9 they are all supposed to work on any carrier, but the only ones verizon will activate on their network are the ones they sell. But what you can do is activate your sim in another verizon phone then pop it in any nexus 6 and its supposed to work they just wont activate a sim in a non verizon version and they will know because the imei of lets say a sprint version or tmobile wont be in their network of imei numbers that can be activated, but like I said activate the sim in another verizon phone and then put it in the nexus 6 and your good to go.
The one dev tigerstown he has a nexus 6 and an m8 also and he said he modified a sense 7 rom from an m9 to work on his nexus 6 so he has a nexus 6 running a htc sense 7 rom and he even uses the htc camera software on it.
I thought about it too and yeah it seemed a bit too big for myself also I want a 5.5 inch screen, I might check out the m9 plus but if it has the cheap processor and does not come with the 810 processor then I definitely wont be buying it. That lower grade processor might fly in the china market but it sure wont here.
Verizon is so bad that they will only activate imei numbers of there own phones they will block imei numbers of other phones and these are phones with clean imei numbers, where at&t & tmobile all they care about is that the imei number is not blacklisted which is all that should matter but verizon just tries to control everything and why should they care what phone you use when at&t & tmobile dont ?

How much is your etf ? You could pay your etf then open a new account on the comcast web site as they are a verizon dealer then you will get a $150.00 visa prepaid card for a rebate which it says you will receive it with in 6 weeks of your activation.
Or you could add another line getting the m9 which the comcast site has a $50.00 visa prepaid card as a rebate for that I believe as they list getting an upgrade. But then switch the 2nd line to a cheap regular phone like a flip or something and I think your monthly cost goes down, or after you get the m9 on your new line close it paying off the etf and put the m9 on your other line you had first. I think you can save some this way, also then you could sell your old phone to get some of the cost back.

In the past you could do this, now they have a note that says you must keep the $30 data plan on whatever line you use to upgrade/sign up. They are doing everything they can to get their money from you.

I'm in a dilemma and in need of some advice. I'm in the market for a new Windows Mobile Phone. The last phone I had (The HP Ipaq 910c) went sour on me 3 times before I finally sold it off. I've been using a phone that's 8 years old for the past several months...trying to patiently wait for the Touch Pro 2 on AT&T.
Here's my problem...I'm on an unlimited data plan right now with AT&T that's relatively cheap. If I were to sign a new 2 year contract with them with the Tilt 2, my monthly bill would increase by about $30-$40 dollars with the new data plans they put in place. (I'm on a family plan). I'm due for an upgrade because my HP 910c was unlocked and I didn't have to sign a contract, but I still used it on the AT&T networks. I guess my question is...is there a way to do this with the Tilt 2 ...get it unlocked and still use the data plan I have without having to go through AT&T and have all the sluggish software they install put on the phone. Not to mention I was using CoPilot GPS on my HP 910c and I wanted to be still use that on my Tilt 2 (doesn't AT&T have the GPS locked or charge for the service?) ...I'm not the expert on phones and how carriers change things up so I apologize if I'm completely off in left field with these statements. I know you can also buy the phone...non commitment with AT&T for $550ish, but I'm worried they'd still charge me for some of these services I'm wanting. Soooooooo...
I've looked at these two sites who are selling an unlocked version of the AT&T Tilt 2:
($600) Negri Electronics: http://www.negrielectronics.com/product_info.php?currency=USD&products_id=2758
&
($550) Wireless Networks: http://www.ewirelessexperts.com/product_info.php?products_id=1361
Can anybody recommend one of these sellers and/or tell me if they are legit and point me in the right direction?
OR am I better off just signing a new contract with either AT&T or Verizon. I'm basically trying to find the least expensive way to get this phone and use it how I want to use it. I don't want to be paying extra for monthly services and data plans that I COULD already have available to myself. I really like Verizon's version (I've heard its the closest to the original HTC Touch Pro 2 as far as the software. And that there is virtually no carrier bloat pre-installed...not to mention there's a 3.5mm jack...but that's not a deal breaker for me) ...OR is there anyway I CAN get the Verizon version UNLOCKED and still use it on the AT&T networks somehow? I've heard the 3G bands are different. Could anyone confirm if this is even a possibility? (Also I'm wanting to run Windows Mobile 6.5 on this phone...so I need to take into account how much it would be to upgrade if I did take the Verizon route and when the update would be available)
I definitely want 3G...I know there are unlocked versions of this phone that don't have it and I want to STAY AWAY from that. I've also heard stories that AT&T can somehow detect now when you're using a new phone and switch your SIM card to a different model (and that they can change or start charging you differently if they catch you). BASICALLY ...is there a way to avoid all this and finally get myself an ever-so-lovely Unlocked Touch Pro 2? And...from WHERE?
OK here is the deal. If you want 3G then either find an unlocked version or pay retail for the ATT TP2 549.99. As long as you dont upgrade your account then you are grandfathered in for your data. I would pay the retail price which is cheaper then an unlocked version and then call ATT to get the unlock code. You can remove the bloat ware easy enough, Custom rom.
Does anyone know about the legitimacy of the Negri or Wireless Networks sellers? I'm skeptical to buy it directly from AT&T...Just having to deal with the additional software and having to unlock it...and them possibly noticing a change and changing up the price of my service...just seems like a hassle. I just wanna buy it, get it, put in my SIM card, and live happily ever after with no worries.

No matter where you get it after awhile your IMEI will reg on the system and they will know you are using a TP2. Even with an unlocked version of ATT touch pro 2 it will still come with all the att software as it is the only version that comes with 6.5. If you look at the screen shot it still has the ATT tab in TF3d. I cant say about those places but on the go solutions I have delt with and when I got an unlocked carrier version it still had all the bloatware installed. I called them and they stated that they only unlock them, they dont change anything else.
Will At&T just give you the unlock code... no questions asked? I thought they kept it locked for a reason. And if I buy it from At&T for $550 do I get any kind of warranty if say a part fails on the device?

They will give you the unlock code if you buy it out right and tell them you travel overseas. It will have the normal one year warrenty if you buy it at one of the stores. You can always add insurence to the plan when you buy it out right with in 30 days.

This only works if you've been with AT&T for at least 3 months. If you're starting a new plan/new account with AT&T, you have to wait 3 months before unlocking your phone. Otherwise, just tell CS that you want it unlocked for overseas travel.
i got my tilt2 directly from att for 425. dont have it unlocked yet, as i dunno if i want to keep the phone or go under a contract (prices are around 99 with 2yr). with contract prices so low, maybe it makes sense to pay the extra $10-15 for their new data plan? especially with att new data plan rules for all smartphones. I'd hate to pay full price and the have att bump me up 2 months or so down the line, when I can't return the phone..

Wow, way to go replying to a thread that's over a year old.
Buying a phone without contract is unlocked?
Or is it still under the current plan? Or new plan with that carrier?
No. It will still be carrier locked if you buy it from them. It will be carrier locked unless its explicitly stated otherwise.

Yep, this is generally the case. Unless buying an unlocked European phone. Aka buy the phone put any carrier SIM in it that works on those GSM bands.
OP, if you buy the phone on a contract you can always take it to a new line/account on the same carrier by switching SIM cards, but the obligation lies in paying the old contract out, that's where the ETF is. The bonus of buying a phone unlocked, or at least unsubsidized is not having the carrier contract.
Oh okay, the main reason I asked is because I seen a thread and someone was talking about trading in there phone for the Incredible S and someone said to buy it for like 599 or something unlocked and it just gave me the idea that buying a phone at the retail price meant your not tied down to a contract hence price, which seems to make sense.. But also makes sense that you are in fact tied down to that specific carrier hence buying from them.
The contract price is to lock you in basically, and the retail price is because you ALREADY have a contract and simply want to switch your device without messing up your contract. OR... maybe your credit isn't the greatest so just paying out of pocket is your best bet!

You've got it. If you've got a contract already and don't want to extend it or aren't eligible for an upgrade, you can pay full price for the phone and just insert your SIM card.
Should also be said that GSM phones can be unlocked with unlock codes to be used on different carriers in different countries etc.. This isn't much of an issue in the US because T-mobile and AT&T are the only 2 big national's that offer GSM service (aside from Simple Mobile, etc. but those are on AT&T/T-mo towers anyways), and they operate on different 3G frequencies so unlocking your T-mo phone will only get you EDGE on AT&T and vice-versa. So really the only reason to unlock is for international travel.

At&t seems obsolete because of veriPhone.

They probably meant for a retailer not associated with your carrier. There are various cellphone vendors online, etc. that sell phones unlocked. Carriers don't sell unlocked phones typically. Its against their self interest. The only reason cell companies sell phones at all is to lure new customer and retain existing ones. They make little or no profit from selling phones.
If you buy a phone full retail price from your carrier, you can use it on your current plan. But its not really linked to a plan. Some carrier will let you walk into a store and buy a phone for full price without a contract or service with them even, I believe. Although some apparently won't. With a GSM phone, it doesn't really matter, you can swap your SIM in and out of whatever device (as long as its SIM locked to your carrier, or unlocked, and uses the same frequency bands). Its the SIM that is linked to your account, not the device.

AT&T is the second largest cell carrier in the country, and that was true long before the iPhone. And they only barely trail Verizon in the number of customers. Why would VZN getting the iPhoney make AT&T obsolete? If anything, I personally feel that things are looking BETTER on AT&T for Android users. Now that iPhone exclusivity is gone, AT&T has the freedom to release some REAL Android devices (which they are now doing).
It seems that AT&T's network size has also been a hindrance in its move to 3G, and now 4G. T-Mob seems to be well ahead of AT&T in deploying 4G/HSPA+. Just based on comments on these forums, it seems that people are getting up to 7 Mbps on T-Mob in some areas, with number often being in the 4-5 Mbps range. Best I've seen on AT&T is just under 4 Mbps, with the typical case being more like 2-3 Mbps. And I haven't seen any comments by AT&T users on here and the AT&T forums about getting any faster than that (and often slower). Plus AT&T has only stated theoretical download speeds of "up to" 6 Mbps on HSPA+ (and thats probably optimistic), so we likely won't see any faster than that until they deploy LTE. But as you said, T-Mob coverage tends to not be the greatest in some areas.
I'd ask around with friends, co-workers, etc. in your local market to try to determine which carrier has the best coverage and data speeds in your area. Also compare plan prices and phone selection, and from there determine which carrier is best for you.
I've been with AT&T for the last 2 years (Galaxy S3). Thinking of switching to T-Mobile.
Where should I buy the One M8? Directly from T-Mobile? Or are there factors like price, bloatware, firmware updates, bootloader, carrier logo on the phone, etc. that would make buying an unlocked or developer edition from HTC a better choice? How do all these things work on T-Mobile, and on the One M8 specifically?

Before switching to T-Mobile, make sure they have good coverage in your area. I am currently testing them (again lol). Coverage does seem to be improving. Do you want to finance the phone? If so, then you have to get it through T-Mobile. All carrier versions of the M8 will be bootloader-locked; however, you can have HTC unlock it. I am sure the phone will get updates just has fast as any other carrier. Remember, the unlocked/developer editions will not have Wifi calling, which is very nice.
I too am considering picking up the TMO branded M8 as my developer edition was taking forever to ship from HTC.com.
Remember you don't really get discounts on phones for T-Mobile anymore because there is no contract. You can use the jump thing they offer which is pretty good for those who like to switch phones every 6 months. But personally, I would find a used one or refurbished one rather than paying full price. But beware of scammers with that route.
However with the price you'll pay with T-Mobile and doing the "jump" you would probably still save money lol.

The AT&T and international M8 are not compatible with T-Mobile 3G network.
So, if you want to use it with T-mobile, you need to buy it from them.

true and false at the same time. It depends if the area you live in has been reframed. If they have LTE then the HSPA+ network is PCS1900 and not AWS. Best to check the area and find out if it's been reframed or not.
T-Mobile jump is a scam, you have to pay off 50% of the cost and you don't get to keep it, then you get new phone.

just like buying a phone trying to sell it to get back 50%+ of the money around the same time most people would turn in during jump? You'll be stuck on the same boat. Either T-mobile does the leg work for you or you do it yourself. Either way seems the same to me. Since I am accident prone Jump is actually worth the money for me, and also when I am ready to change devices I don't have to find ways and deal with people to sell a phone to buy a phone.
I got mine through TMO even though I don't use them(I'm on straight talk). They are charging pretty close to the going rate for the phone(even with the interest added in they're not taking you to the cleaners too bad) so it's not a bad deal if you don't wanna go out of pocket all the money at once. The one I got was able to be s-off and thus simunlocked for free so that worked out beautifully for me.
My friend also got one(he is the one who is on TMO) and it's been great for him as well. We've both had good reception with it.

T-Mobile jump is a scam, you have to pay off 50% of the cost and you don't get to keep it, then you get new phone.

Obviously i was not talking about the original jump. The original jump was great and that's is why T-Mobile got rid of it because it was too good of a deal for consumers.
Also, the original jump is not available now is it? No, it is not

Yes, It is for me, and anyone else who was a t mobile customer before Feb. 22nd, 2014
You are automatically grandfathered in if you were on TMobile before that date

Has anyone tried to purchase something through carrier billing yet from the Play Store on their 5X? I am on Verizon and it doesn't work for me, I guess because it's not a Verizon phone. Have others seen this as well on Verizon as well as other carriers? Not the end of the world to lose this but wondering if its just a Verizon thing.
Works on T-Mobile and AT&T

Most likely, they still use IMEI for that and it isn't in the system. But, just in case, did you cut an existing SIM or get a new one from Verizon? I'm not sure this is it (I haven't tried carrier billing) but when I called for a new SIM she asked me if the phone was NFC capable. Maybe in their system, NFC = billing. They mailed me a "GEMALTO 4FF NFC SIM CD"
I'm sure it's a verizon thing. I used am existing sim card from a Moto X 2014. It is the nfc capable one. The option was listed but when I tried to use it the payment was declined. I assume you guys have already had successful payments made?
I'm a "Jump On Demand" T-Mobile customer, which gives me 3 upgrades per year. Unfortunately, when this Nexus lineup was announced and I learned that I wouldn't be able to get it through T-Mobile, I was a bit disappointed. However, my work around for this was to just buy the 5X and then go trade in my phone to T-Mobile and get the cheapest phone they offer. This dropped my monthly payment by about $18/month and allowed me to stay on the 3 upgrades per year program. I want to stay on that program because next year, knowing how fickle Google is, the next Nexus release will likely be back on the carrier bandwagon. In which case, I'll go back to getting my phones that route.
But for carrier billing, the only thing that changed for me was that I was able to drop my monthly bill by purchasing the 5X outside of T-Mobile.

Thanks although for carrier billing I meant the ability to buy apps and media from Google Play and have it appear on the bill with your carrier. Not the phone itself. At least for me Verizon doesn't seem to let you do that from the 5X, my guess because it's not a Verizon phone. Curious if other carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile have the same rules for phones that are not sold through the carrier.

Sorry about that, my failed reading comprehension definitely side tracked my comment. Haven't had my coffee yet.

No worries. I should have added Google Play to the subject of the post. Can you comment on whether or not it lets you buy something in Google Play and bill to T-Mobile?

Whoops, sorry for missing that! I guess since both AT&T and T-Mobile are used to people bringing their own phone it makes sense Google Play carrier billing works for them on unlocked phones.
I am on the verge of purchasing this phone from Verizon but I am just wondering do you guys think that the devs will be able to unlock the boot loader?. Or is it highly unlikely?
You should buy it from Google Store, that's an honest opinion.

Highly unlikely I would guess. I think you can get it from the google store tho and have it activated on verizon network still, from what I have read. That version would come ready to be unlocked.

I am not even on Verizon . lol I'm on tmbile but Google rep said about a month until they go back up for sale. There is one on craiglist for 1,000$ for 32 GB idk if I should make the move or not.

I definitely would not buy the Verizon one with the expectation of using it on any carrier besides verizon.

Why wouldn't you buy a "Verizon version with expectation of using it on another carrier"?
I bought a Verizon version last night from Best Buy (im not really worried about unlocking the bootloader at this point. Been doing it for years lol ) and put my T-Mobile sim card in and it worked immediately.
All these Google Pixel phones are carrier unlocked. Every single one. The only difference is that the Verizon version currently cannot be Bootloader unlocked, but I'm sure it will someday.
I would say buy from google if you really want to have an unlocked bootloader. I wont say it will never be unlocked but i think there will be very few working on it for the simple fact that you can buy an unlocked version. I would have bought it from google but it was more cost effective for me to buy it from Verizon.
Honest opinion = It is highly unlikely!
Most likely not since there is an google verison that comes with an unlocked bootloader for the same price.
I'm with verizon but bought it from the Google store. I am thinking about switching carriers sometime soon so I don't want to be stuck with monthly payments from Verizon on a device that won't be used on their carrier. That's why I did Google finance. Plus I already give too much money to Verizon each month. Bootloader being unlocked or not doesn't bother me but some people will want root and one day I may root and I want that option.
Yeahci will just wait till its available again. I'm on tmobile and I will never leave. Lol I only pay 50$ for unlimited everything

Same here. My wife is on Verizon and I looked at adding a line. If I buy it outright (pixel xl) I don't get the big credit for my V10, only fair market value and I don't get the free data bump either. At the end of the day, staying with T-Mobile with unlimited data just makes sense

Yeah man ilove being grandfather in. I scanned a copy of my original contract, and a few times they tried to switch my plans to the new jump and I was like nope I have a SIGNED contract. Lol LOVE IT!! also I can't get throttle after using 20+ gigs of data.
Never buy a phone for what it MIGHT do in the future.
If you need root/unlocked bootloader buy a phone that already has that.

So I will let the hypedye down now I'll just stick to 7.1.1 on the 6p. And than I'll sell my 6p and op3 to buy the xl in the coming months.
It seems there are too many Verizon models running around now that somehow came with an unlockable bootloader.... makes me think there is a better chance at the devs finding a way. Mostly just a hunch but....

Will an at&t sim in verizon model prevent software updates?
