[Q] N910A Note 4 5.0.1 update and now red led heart rate sensor comes on - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

After installing the 5.0.1 update on my ATT Note 4 I noticed the red light was on when I put my phone down. After testing it for a while the heart rate sensor red led comes on when anything touches it. I restarted phone and killed all running apps but nothing stops it. Sometimes it goes off after a few minutes and sometimes it doesn't happen but sometimes it comes on and stay on until whatever made contact with the sensor goes away.
So for now I can't lay my phone down on it's back because the sensor can come on. I can't put it anywhere where anything could touch the sensor because it will eventually come on. No pocket nothing. I never had this problem until right after the 5.0.1 update.
For now I'm stuck putting my phone face down and carrying it because that is the only way I can be sure the sensor won't light up and kill the battery.
I may have never noticed this except that it took the update so long to download and it was bedtime when I finished and noticed the light.
Anyone else seeing this or more importantly anyone able to tell me how to stop it?

@phobia09 made this post in one of the "lolipop is out" threads.. see if it helps you...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=59666946
Basically start s health, take a heart rate reading and close s health.. his light stopped coming on

Tried S Health but that didn't work.
Thanks for the info. I previously started SHealth and took pulse, stress and PulseOX readings but it still comes on.

What running the heart rate check in S Health did for me was stop it temporarily. Within an hour of doing that, it was back. Wish it had been permanent. Leave it to AT&T to screw up, I don't believe international N4's had this issue.

This is what I have done so far but it has not solved the problem. I still can't put my phone in my pocket or lay it with the back down.
Wiped the phones cached partition
restarted phone several times
removed battery for about 15 minutes
cleared data and cache from Shealth App
disabled Shealth app
It seems like starting SHealth and taking your heartbeat stops it for a short time but the problem comes back quickly wether SHealth is running in the background or not.
I can put up with some issues but I can't live with this. It seems pretty serious and is a big battery drain.

Yeah they do. I read the other Note 4 forums too and this issue appears on all Note 4 versions running 5.0.1

Same issue here. I ended up doing a factory reset and starting over with Lollipop. So far, the sensor has not lit up again, but then, I have not started up S Health since resetting the phone. When it was happening it only lit up when I lay the phone down on a light colored surface. On a dark surface, it didn't light up at all.

Fixed
I was told it was Google FIT in another forum and it was a known problem. Uninstalled FIT and now everything is fine!

HTC One X Messaging Issues

Hi guys, this problem just started to occur. I heard a notification sound from my phone which should have been the email tone but I was busy so i didn't check it. I noticed the sound was a little cut off at the end though. Then almost immediately afterwards, I got the sound for a new SMS. Then I checked my phone but I couldn't see any emails from before although there was a new SMS. When I tried to open the message, it would go into the Messaging app but then it would get stuck on a loading screen when I try to actually enter the message. When I go back to the main messaging screen, I can still see all my past messages, but each time I try to go into one, it'd get stuck on the loading screen. Eventually after maybe 3 minutes it finally went into the newest message i got, but when i tried to send a reply it would act like nothing's happened. The message i typed just disappeared. When I went back to the main messaging screen, I was able to see my message in the previews, but when i go back into that conversation, it would be stuck on the loading screen and now nothing is loading. This is really annoying. I haven't really used my phone in the last 6 hours and before that everything worked perfectly.
On another note, I'm noticing that during the night, my phone uses up about 30% of the battery just on idle. I have wi-fi turned on but is this normal? I only slept for 6 hours...by the way, the battery charging all seemed normal before but now I just plugged in my phone about 1.5 hours ago and it's only increased by about 3 percent...
My phone is not rooted and has been updated recently to the latest version. I also have Lookout Security installed. Any help would really be appreciated!
Update: I just noticed that my phone was blinking red and green one after another. After checking it seems to indicated that it's because it is overheating so i've now disconnected the charger and turned it off. But i can't think why it would be overheating. It's placed on a wooden table away from sunlight and any heat sources and like i mentioned earlier, I haven't really touched it in the last 6 hours so I was definitely not using anything intensive.
Did restarting fix the messaging problem ?
What apps have the highest % for battery use ?
Well, your phone probably was doing something intensive.
Maybe your antivirus was upset by the email or message.
@PhoenixFx: Yeah i did restart the phone which didn't help. I even turned the phone off for 30 minutes which cooled it down but as soon as i turned it back on, it started to get hot again. Whilst it was turned off i had it charging and then when it came back on i noticed the battery percentage increased much more so the battery was definitely fine. The process which used the most power was Viber which was at 9%, there were a couple of other processes but they were all under 5%. I even uninstalled Viber which didn't help. Looking at all the processes that were running, I couldn't see anything that was abnormal.

That could be but I don't see why it would. The message was just a regular text message.
Anyways, I have now done a factory reset and it seems to be fine again. But if anyone has ever come across this or know the solution, please let us know so if it happens again, I'll know what to do and it would also help others who experiences the same thing. By the way, how much SHOULD the battery drain overnight with the wifi turned on?
You may have gotten a virus. I got a gmail virus that wiped a lot of my emails and wouldnt let me receive. I know this is about messaging but they are made by google so it is a possibility. I suggest a full restore and to run a virus scan with one of the play store's antiviruses.

I had the same problem with the messages. They wouldn't open or they would take a lifetime to load and open. Resetting and **** wouldnt work so I did a re-install of my ROM, wouldnt work, so I did factory wipe and started fresh. So far so good.

Yeah I'm not having any issues so far. Of course, it could've been a virus but I scanned my phone regularly with Lookout and also when it happened. Very weird. Anyways, if it happens again, I'll post back. Certainly hope not, this was the second time in a month I had to do a factory reset (last time was when I updated to Sense 4.1 and for some reason it wiped my phone and didn't even do the update. I had to make it download the update again for it to install...)
Ok, it's just happened again. First i heard the notification sound for an email, but then when i turned on the screen, i couldn't see any notifications. Now when i go into my SMS, they take forever (literally) to load. This is really getting pathetic. The amount of problems i've had with this phone, not to mention the constant "loading" screen when i press the home key. FFS, i never had this many problems with my old iPhone 3GS.
Update: I've just done a scan with AVG and Lookout and both turned up nothing. Most likely that this is not a virus related issue then.
this is happening on the stock 2.17 firmware also
no notifications, if you look in the messaging app, new messages are there
i cant understand how htc cant fix this? its been present from 1.28 fw

a gmail virus? care to explain a bit more, like the name of it etc? i did have some problems where it wouldn't sync with the latest version but is now working ok..
If you text a hell of a lot like I do then the problem is the phone is trying to load all of the message threads as fast as possible. Which uses a **** ton of your RAM, hence the 3 minute wait. I current have the HTC one x+ but the phones are basically the same. Here's what i did for the same exact issues.
For constant overheating:
1.Let your phone die.
2.Put your phone in your freezer and let it sit for a few minutes until its pretty cold.
3.Fully charge your phone
4.If you havnt already done so, download the latest update for your phone
5.Turn on and keep the battery saver option on. You do not have to keep the brightness low though
For messaging issues:
Go in your messages and delete all of your old threads to people whom you no longer converse with.

[Q] Screen goes randomly off

Hello,
The screen of my moto 360 goes randomly off and vibrates at that moment, just like when you dim the screen with your hand., but now I'm using it. It's very frustrating because I can't even open an app normally or the screen goed of and I need to start over again. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Having same issues with mine.
Really strange and really annoying. Its like when u cover it with palm. It vibrates and screen goes off but ur in the middle of trying to do something. Anyone else having this problem?
Glad I'm not the only one having this issue, just got my Moto 360 today. I'll be in the Settings or other parts of the watch and it will just randomly turn off. It is really frustrating to deal with.
I have the same issue. I have pretty hairy arms so I wonder if the hairs are somehow triggering the capacitive touch screen.
you guys try to do a reset on the watch yet?? not just a reboot..
Any updates on this? I'm having the same issue
Any updates? I have the same issue I think it happend after udate to 5.0.2 but I'm not sure.
I'm also having the same problem. I picked up a new Moto 360 during the BBY sale rush of the last couple of days. At first it was buggy but the screen seemed to stay on while working with it. Then it had a system update, and since then most bug issues (like the faces not updating with the companion app changes) went away, however from that point the screen constantly shuts off, usually with a little buzz, while I'm interacting with the watch.
For instance, regarding the sensor used to turn off the watch if you palm it. I thought maybe that was it, so I was looking for a way to turn that off. I went into settings, and spend about 10 times of the screen shutting off before I could get to "accessibility settings" just to see if that might be there.
This problem occurs whether I'm wearing the watch or not (trying to eliminate arm hair or similar), and has occurred after a factory reset and re-pair with my phone (Note 4). Ambient sensor settings don't help, because all that does is make the screen go dark instead of off, but it still reverts back to the clock no matter what I was doing.
Any ideas? Any way to turn off a sensor perhaps, maybe in a custom ROM? Since this seems to be associated with an update near as I can tell, I wonder if a fix is coming from Moto or if it's too rare of an issue to be on their radar.
As an update, I replaced the watch with a new one, and this new watch is perfect. It started on outdated software which I left on for a bit to make sure it didn't show the problem, then I updated. Still no issues. I think there is a chance the problem is software regardless, but either way it must be a small portion of watches and isn't necessarily tied to any particular outside software influence (phone model or android version, or installed apps as NONE of those things changed). My advice to people reading this thread is to exchange the watch or get an RMA if possible.
Same Issue
Hi All,
I have the same issue. Sent it back for repair so let's see...
Same issue here as well

Lollipop Problem Thread - For those of us that already have it

OK, so now that I have lollipop, I have noticed a few things are broken and I am wondering what other problems others are having and what we can collectively do to try and fix them.
If I tilt and say "OK Google" and "Show me my heartrate" I get a momentary black screen and then back to the watch face. Happens with both Fit and the Moto app
I noticed it happens more when I have a partial notification card showing. If I clear the notification and turn the screen back on it will usually work right.
Also, downloaded the update while on the charger then ran the update with 100% battery, now three hours later I'm down to 34%. Yikes. I've had the watch for only a couple days so I'll give it more time to settle in.
David
FWIW whenever i run updates i lose an easy 15%+. all of that on-screen time and processing shows the inefficiencies of the processor. i generally try to re-charge it after any update.
additionally its been reported several times to perform a factory reset on the watch after any update. i haven't performed one yet myself, but by battery life has been on-par with before.
lollipop
Do you have lollipop on your phone? I notice that when i got lollipop on my 360 the battery went down pretty quick! I had the 360 connected with my M7 on kitkat! Now i have my 360 connected with my Nexus 6 and its working ok!

Anyone have problems with the unlock your phone feature using a different launcher like nova. I have mine paired to my nexus 6 and it works great on Google launcher but only about a third of the time on nova, thanks

Marshmellow update problems

So I was hesitant to proceed with the update since my 360 has been working so well and the battery life increased tremendously when I got my Note 5.
After a few days of the update pestering me I decided to go for it.
Now there are 2 things that are very annoying.
The first, whenever the screen comes on, there is a slight delay in the watch face.
It lights up with a black face and the hands are white, then it switches to whatever face I have and respected dials.
I'm not using facer or anything, just the stock moto Dials 2. This is very annoying and makes the watch seem slow.
The second thing is that the watchface doesnt turn on when I receive texts anymore.
The vibrate function still works, but the screen won't light up.
Is there a setting that changed making this the default? I would prefer the screen turn on when I receive texts.
Thanks
Make sure 'card previews' turned on from the android wear app, other wise your experience with the faces sounds buggy! A factory reset would help on that.
Factory reset doesnt work, this also happens to me since the update, looks like this is a firmware problem.
Damnit, I wish I didn't update.
Battery is also noticeably worse.

Same exact two issues here and I'm shocked I haven't seen more people complain about them. The first one is a nuisance but the second one completely devalues the purpose of the watch making it useless. Not seeing the text/email/etc... and only having a vibration on your wrist is pointless. I could keep my phone on vibrate in my pocket if I wanted to be notified of a new text/email without seeing the actual message. Please post a fix if one is found!

The first issue is because the watch now comes on in ambient mode first. Even if you don't use ambient mode. It sucks. Luckily i use Watchmaker for my watch face so I went in and made all the parts (hands date etc...) to be visible in ambient mode.
I have noticed that if I wait a couple of seconds the notification does appear on my watch screen but it is after the vibrate, not immediate. I thought it wasn't showing up at first too. Still, I wish it was quicker as I look right away.

I went back to using Facer for my watchface and the delay is gone.
Also did they completely remove the restart option? Now it's just power off, and then press and hold the side button.
I'm experiencing both issues as you do on 6.0.1.
Also yes, reboot option is gone from update.
The renamed reset with "unpair from watch". Not gone, just to mess with us.

Reboot is not reset...
I've also noticed that theater mode does not work after the mm update (unrooted, ota). I usually set it to theater mode at night to avoid burn in and just because I don't want it on all night. Now, it looks like it's blacked out, but when I wake up, the charging screen is lit up. Anyone else getting this?
I have the exact same issue after the update. Theater mode will not keep the display off if the watch is being charged. Off the charger, it works as expected. Quite an annoying bug.
If I turn ON the theatre mod with double press the power button before I put the clock on the charging dock, after that screen continue charge with screen off.
For me it's work.
Can anyone try it?

Just tried that - doesn't work for me. Screen turns off but once I put it on the charger, it comes back on after a few seconds. I'm watching it and it's still on a few minutes later.
Same here. Screen always turns back on
I'm getting the first bug the OP mentioned havn't noticed the second one though.
However the first bug is annoying enough, hopefully there'll be a quick patch.
Little patience, update to Marshmallow is great.
Here's what I mean with screen off when charge:
So in the morning until you take it out of the dock and go to work.

DND mode turns on and off repeatedly

I am curious whether anyone else is having this problem as I cannot find anything about it online. I have an issue that my Pixel XL starts turning DND mode on and off repeatedly with no interaction from me. It cycles back and forth every second or so and the DND icon comes and goes from the notification bar as it does this. This also seems to run down the battery and heat up the phone. No clearing out of applications seems to fix this but if I reboot the phone it goes away. I should also note that I find my Pixel goes into DND mode all the time unintentionally . About half the time I take it out to make a call I see that DND is on. This happens even when it is not cycling like this repeatedly. Anyone else having problems like this?
Are they any DND rules setup that might be triggering? Do you have any other automation app installed, like Tasker, that could be causing thisre
I have seen this happen on my phone a few times - during the day, which is against the schedule that I set. It's not often enough to bother me, but it is somewhat worrisome.
These bugs man!
also experienced it. i wondered if it was impacted by android wear because i dont see it when i dont have my watch on.
i also noticed it goes into that DND mode when you make a call. so maybe it's not coming out of it when you hang up
DND is flaky

I tried using DND when i first got the phone but it was inconsistent and flaky.
Went back to silence premium and havent had any issues since.
i have the same problem, but also using android wear.. very odd.
I also have a smartwatch connected. Perhaps the bug is related to Android Wear.

So that's really interesting. I have a first gen Asus Zenwatch and I removed the Zenwatch Manager app late last week and the problem appears to have stopped. I still get the occasional DND turning on when I don't think I have activated it, but the cycling back and forth appears to have stopped. I should also note that I apparently got an upgrade to the watch firmware last week (it said upgrading when I woke up) so this could have resolved the issue as well. Regardless it does not seem to have happened in several days.
Android wear related I'm sure. When I go to hit volume down it says dnd- android wear

Someone in another thread suggested deleting the three default automatic rules for do not disturb. I did that a couple days ago and haven't had the problem since. I have an Android Wear watch connected too.
Happens to me also, while connected to my Misfit Ray.
