Hi Guys,
I'm all shiny and new to this forum, so let me introduce myself real quick. My name is Saragn, I'm a security engineer from South Africa and I recently decided to start modding my HTC One M8. I produce music professionally in my spare time and have released music internationally under three different genres on various labels. I love tech and love playing with anything that is powered and has lights ha ha ha...
So, on Friday I installed the following ROM from Skydragon: "SkyDragon M8 v 3.1 WWE Sense 7.zip". It works REALLY WELL, I love how it has opened up the phone for modding. The only gripe I have is the wireless hotspot function does not work anymore. If I try enable it, it simply flicks between on and off repetitively. It is as if it cannot switch on. To stop it from doing that I have to enable the wireless, it then stops and the wireless enables. If I try switch on the hotspot again it does the same thing. I've re installed the ROM twice now and each time it does the same thing.
Firstly, apologies if this is the wrong part of the forum to start this thread, if so, please could one of you be so kind as to point me in the right direction? Thank you.
If it is the right place to post this question then some guidance would be highly appreciated. What can I do to get the wireless hotspot feature to work again? Thanks!!
Ciao for now,
Saragn
Try updating the ROM. Skydragon Sense 7 is now on version 4.1
Changelog for version 4.0 says "Fixed Wifi-HotSpot - may not work, will provide fix zip asap"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59633002&postcount=3
So apparently this is a known issue. But some folks report that WiFi hotspot (tethering) is working. Seems to be working for me on version 4.1, but I haven't testing it extensively.

There was a fix posted for v3.1 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59521467&postcount=2666
But it is advisable to flash a new updated ROM v4.1 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/rom-sd-4-0-sense7-port-sdkernel-t3062378
You'll have better experience with the updated one
Hi,
Thank you very much for the feedback. I'll try out 4.1 as per your suggestion. I'll let you know how it goes.
Regards,
Saragn

Hi there...Okay so another update for you. The wireless hotspot switches on now, so I thought it would be okay. It isn't. Even though it switches on and accepts connections, what ever end point I connect to the hotspot cannot browse the Internet and while the hotspot is on the phone itself cannot connect to anything so it seems that enabling the hotspot disconnects the phone from the Internet. I am not sure if you guys have picked this up yet on 4.1 ?

first of all thank you for viewing,
i have a problem with any rom running CM or gingerbread when trying to join a wireless connection that has a hidden SSID at WPA2 security.
i have no problems connecting to any other wireless connection as long as they are not configure as mention above.
now i would claim that there is a problem with the wireless configuration and the phone trying to handshake with it but this is not the issues with most roms.
because it works fine with most roms but does not with a few other roms i am sure that this is not hardware related.
here is a few troubleshooting steps i have gone through in order to see what is the source of the problem.
1st) i have loaded and tested every radio for the Inc (including the EVO radio) but the problems persist.
2nd) i have loaded and tested a variations of kernels to see if this is a cause of the problem and no luck (i tend to leave the Dev's choice in kernel alone in most cases)
any advise will be grateful please as i am at a lost and with search for people in my same place i have not found any yet.
please someone help i love playing with the Roms but this is starting to kill my experience as being able to connect to hidden and secure wifi is a must for me.
thank you.

silverramsrt,
thank you for the search and post, so what i gather from the 2 other instances of the same problem there is no fix for this as of now other than to broadcast you SSID.
i just cant imagine why would the developer version of Gingerbread does not have this working and i hope some one finds a fix for it or that a fixed version is added to the full release.
i know, i know high hopes.
thank you
You're welcome. It won't be long before one of the incredible devs tackle this. (pun intended)
I have some problem with Wifi on my Desire. I have installed Ginger Villain 2.0, but when i searh for wifi networks, i cant find my network. There are some other networks, but not mine.
Then i've restored Android 2.2 rooted, and everything is OK..
PS i also tried other 2.3 roms, and there is the same problem
Please, help me!
Change the channel for your wireless in your router settings. Change it to 12 or put it on auto. They work best but change it to what ever works for you.
Sent from CM7
I too have this issue with works WiFI
it only and issue on 2.3 ROMs, and is happening with every 2.3 ROM I try.
I can connect to home and mates WiFi no problem. I can connect to work no problem on any 2.2 ROM.
I have loaded a 2.2 ROM, signed into the network, saved the details in several WiFi managers, the reloaded 2.3 and the phone cannot see the network
What does 2.3 do differently/wrong compared to 2.2??
So no developers or anyone has any clue as to why this is happening in 2.3??

I hate to rub this in your face but I don't have any issues with wi-fi. Check my signature for my setup. Maybe there is a problem with the WiFi standard a/b/g/n, try changing the standard on your WiFi router (if it allows you).
Many people on the net have the same issue. And it's been the same with every 2.3 ROM I have tried. Yet every 2.2 Rom has worked fine so that suggests to me it's 2.3 issue and not an issue at my end.
I an unable to get access to the router. It's works one and while I have the password I will be shot if caught in the server room
So far it is only works router that fails to show up.
I installed WiGLE and it found if fine. The first time. Since then no go.
If you can see and connect to other networks, it could be a problem with yours. Hidden SSID? Wrong channel?
Maybe a radio update is needed?
Look at this. Maybe helps
Yes I believe it is a hidden SSID. I cannot change that.
I am on the latest radio.
I will read through that and give it a go and see what I can find
Cheers

I owe you a drink!
In that link it talks about setting it to scan 14 channels. I did that an BINGO straight away picks up the work WiFi on channel 13. SO it must be default 11 or 12.
Cheers mate!
To the OP, give that a go!
Hello All-
HTC Rhodium 400 running on the sprint network. Installed Android build FRX 07.1, everything works very nice and is great to have this on a WINMO phone! However 2 issues.
1) WIFI hotspot will turn on and is located by other devices, however cannot turn this off. The phone fights itself and then either reboots or locks up and i have to remove the battery and reboot into Android.
2) Every once in a great while the phone when left unattended will reboot itself back into windows.
Last night. 11/09/11, i installed the newest kernal, hoping this would possibly fix the problem. Still present, any help?
I have searched the threads but nothing this unique!
Thank you in advance!
YES I AM A NOOB, thank you for moving the post and Sorry for pissing off anyone, sometimes it gets overwhelming to move through all the posts. Thank you again for the 3rd party app that you stated and will just keep downloading the latest kernals. Thank you again moderator for answering the questions of mine.

1. The built-in wifi hotspot is broken, that's a well-known issue. Please search before posting a new thread (or even creating an account ). If you use a third-party tool like XDAndroid wifi tethering, should work just fine. The built in USB tethering works great too.
2. A part of running the port. Kernel isn't flawless.

You can update your kernel without losing any data. Just don't touch the data.img, update per Incremental Updates

I used the built-in wifi hotspot at the end of October, and didn't notice any problems. What was I doing wrong (or right)?
Will pay someone to help me UNDERSTAND and fix this issue I have.
I have ATT HTC ONE M8 - S-OFF, CID 1111111
I have successfully used all Sense ROMs. But if I flash ANY AOSP ROM I have no WIFI whatsoever. It connects sometimes and drops right off. I can't use any non-Sense ROMs because of this and I am starting to get PO-ed.
Please help, reward in it.
I was told that wifi is like this because of HTC having a closed source wifi driver. Regular unsecured networks you should be able to connect to, but secured connections you'll have to be extremely close to the router to connect. Frustrating, I know.

Yes, that information is all I have been able to uncover actually. But I dont understand how its not really a big deal for anyone else? Haha.
I mean all these people seem to be using these AOSP ROMs....but I am the only one who seems to care that I have absolutely no wifi sitting on my couch at home?
Strange that people are just 'dealing'
Anyway - thanks

It is and has been a big deal for others. You can see this in pretty much every AOSP thread we have here. Only a few of you guys are experiencing no wifi at all. There's only a couple of options that can be done next to "just dealing" which is digging into the code and trying to fix it or using a non AOSP based ROM.
Try this if you want and test your wifi and let me know if it's any better.

If I got great 4G signal here at work I probably wouldn't mind as much about not being able to connect to the network here where you have to log in to use the free WiFi. I can never get to the acceptance page. Since there is free WiFi here I might as well use it but I can't. CarbonROM seems to be PERFECT aside from the WiFi issue plaguing all AOSP ROMs at the moment.
I just hope that someone can confirm that it is an issue that is being looked into. I'm a little curious as to why HTC would lock down its WiFi drivers...
I have had the same problem as you on all AOSP roms except Liquidsmooth. I flashed liquidsmooth beta (from the HTC m8 original thread) and wifi worked while it didn't on all of the others. The most current one is running on 4.4.3 and that may have something to do with it. I really want to flash Paranoid but Im waiting on 4.4.3. Liquidsmooth is a very stable rom if you want to check it out. I saw on a PA Google+ post that the 4.4.3 update may help fix this issue so I would wait... Although, I could be wrong
I hope that it gets resolved soon. I am so sick of using Sense. In fact, I hate all stock interpretations of Android. AOSP or die.

Have you tried playing with the WIFi module? If it is working on one, then you should be able to use it's WIFI module on another. If you aren't getting any wifi at all, well that sounds like a kernel module issue to me.
What kernel are you using?
My problem isn't connecting to WiFi, I can do that just fine. I haven't tried connecting to a secure password-protected network yet, but "Guest" access points I can't get to the page where you accept the terms of use unless I'm a few feet from the router. I don't know of any ROM that has allowed me to connect farther away from it yet. All the ROMs I have tried seem to let me use unsecured access points with no problem.
On AOSP ROMs I've tried the included Kernel baked into the ROM and Excaliber 0.3.
On Sense I'm on Faux.
Dear XDA members,
I'm sorry for posting in this section, but since I'm new to the scene I can't post questions or topics in the appropriate section. So sorry for my noobyness..
Anyway I installed the new CM13 Nightly today. It is working great and even got the storage bug (gallery crash) fixed by removing the line ro.sdcardfs.enabled=true from build.prop (hint for anyone else needing this fix ). However I've found a bug that was stopping me from using CM13 in the first place, it was rebooting my device everytime it started up and connected to wifi... Whenever I connect to my Apple Airport Extreme the device crashes and reboots (just like the gallery bug). It is an older model Airport Extreme (the 802.11n version, so no ac wifi). It doesn't happen on the other router installed here, which is a Comtrend.
Could someone tell me where and how I report this bug or maybe even how to fix it? I haven't seen anyone else post it on the forums and it doesn't happen on OxygenOS or pre-official releases of CM13 based roms.
Thank you!

This seems to be a persistent bug because when i connect to my Apple airport Router my phone crashes too.
Hi
I've a same problem with connection on Airport. But my ROM is Ressurection Remix (Build 30/07/16). I think that the problem is present on all CM-Based ROM.

Whit oficially ROM or based ROMS all ok.

Seems to only be with the airport
Same problem
Thank you! I thought I was crazy. For some strange reason i crashes hard when getting an IP address. I connect via an old Apple time capsule.

Already did that. Someone was supposed to look into it but didn't. I provider logs, but I guess it is nog considered a very important bug I already started a thread in the cyanogen forums so let's hope that helps.
Btw if you want to use cm, you van use Arter97's build. That build with his kernel (you Have to add it manually) doesn't have the wifi bug official CM with his kernel also doesn't have the wifi bug.
Believe to have figured out the issue
I am having this exact same problem when connecting my OP3 to my Airport Extreme. I have messed around with several different ROMs and discovered that the original Oxygen OS and Freedom OS (basically a modified version of Oxygen) don't crash when connecting to the Airport Extreme. This has happened to me in two different places, with two different Airport routers. It would connect just fine until I first updated one router to the latest version for the Airport (version 7.7.7), and then a few days later the same upgrade with the other one before realizing that this was why my phone kept crashing! Problem is, is I'm not sure what firmware of the Airport actually worked with my OP3. I've tried downgrading my Apple router (generation 7), but it will only let me go down to version 7.7.3 which still crashes the phone.
It has to be an issue with router's version, rather than a ROM issue because this only started happening with me after the Airport update. Best thing probably to do at this point is report it to Apple, and hopefully they will do something about it instead of just locking every non-apple product out of their 'Apple Products only can communicate with one another circle'... I'm unable to post an actual link to the website to report bugs to apple, so here is the link in a 'disguised' manor. apple(dot)com(ForwardSlash)feedback(ForwardSlash)airportextreme(dot)html
I just typed out a bug report myself and sent it to apple. The more people that report it, the more likely they will be to fix it. In the meantime, I also requested that they provide me with the original firmware that the 6th generation Airport Extreme came with, because I know it worked with my OP3. If I get it, and it works I'll provide a Dropbox or Google Drive link for the download on a future reply to this thread.

It was a rom issue and it is fixed in CM builds after 18/9, I tested the commit before it went live. Don't use any kernel before that date and you're fine . The Apple routers are fine haha. There was a variable defined as a wrong type, which caused a stack overflow when connecting to an airport.
