I have some problem with Wifi on my Desire. I have installed Ginger Villain 2.0, but when i searh for wifi networks, i cant find my network. There are some other networks, but not mine.
Then i've restored Android 2.2 rooted, and everything is OK..
PS i also tried other 2.3 roms, and there is the same problem
Please, help me!
Change the channel for your wireless in your router settings. Change it to 12 or put it on auto. They work best but change it to what ever works for you.

I too have this issue with works WiFI
it only and issue on 2.3 ROMs, and is happening with every 2.3 ROM I try.
I can connect to home and mates WiFi no problem. I can connect to work no problem on any 2.2 ROM.
I have loaded a 2.2 ROM, signed into the network, saved the details in several WiFi managers, the reloaded 2.3 and the phone cannot see the network
What does 2.3 do differently/wrong compared to 2.2??
So no developers or anyone has any clue as to why this is happening in 2.3??

I hate to rub this in your face but I don't have any issues with wi-fi. Check my signature for my setup. Maybe there is a problem with the WiFi standard a/b/g/n, try changing the standard on your WiFi router (if it allows you).
Many people on the net have the same issue. And it's been the same with every 2.3 ROM I have tried. Yet every 2.2 Rom has worked fine so that suggests to me it's 2.3 issue and not an issue at my end.
I an unable to get access to the router. It's works one and while I have the password I will be shot if caught in the server room
So far it is only works router that fails to show up.
I installed WiGLE and it found if fine. The first time. Since then no go.
If you can see and connect to other networks, it could be a problem with yours. Hidden SSID? Wrong channel?
Maybe a radio update is needed?
Look at this. Maybe helps
Yes I believe it is a hidden SSID. I cannot change that.
I am on the latest radio.
I will read through that and give it a go and see what I can find
Cheers

I owe you a drink!
In that link it talks about setting it to scan 14 channels. I did that an BINGO straight away picks up the work WiFi on channel 13. SO it must be default 11 or 12.
Cheers mate!
To the OP, give that a go!

I have an unsecured network and wifi still isnt working i even tried the builds i used beforeand wifi stil isnt working? I tried Eclair 2.1 froyo still wont work. it scans and says unable to scasn and turns the wifi off by itself. it worked on my other touch pro 2! any ideas?
same ****
got the same problem i had it on the 2.1 builds and on the froyo builds but seems when somebody mention it nobody takes it seriously...just have to wait till the next build...!
You need to update zimage to the latest and as long as WiFi is not WEP encrypted, it should work.
That is really odd. Wifi works perfect for me in froyo with a secured network. Try the new 2.2 froyo build in the first sticky.

Where I live I run wpa2 but there's wep, wpa and unsecured networks available. I get the same problem with the various flavours even after uninstalling, deleting all content and reinstalling.
Bit of a wind up to read that it's a problem with wep.
I would have to say this is one of the worst issues I have found yet with android. Others who have the same phone don't have this issue. but I do. WiFi just doesn't work on my device. I have all the latest releases. Hell, I have been able to use every feature meant for rhodium but WiFi. It is a persistant issue with my device.
I even tried repartitioning my sdcard to see if that helps. but no luck. The last release I was able to use Wifi with was the first release of the sense ui 2.1
When I mention this on IRC, I am pretty much ignored, People think it is because I don't know what I am doing. I beg to differ. I have been able to offer valid advice and solutions for most of the questions i come across.
My device is a T-MO TP2, with a 4gb sdcard. and colored send and end buttons.
Help Please.
Last time I checked Rhobuntu wifi worked ok
I'm having the same issue as well..
It will scan and see my network(secured with WEP) and let me enter my login info but after that it just scans and dosen't connect.
If I have to turn my WEP off I want worry about Android cause theres too many people around here that like to piggy back and I'm not paying for them to use mt internet as well.
I'm using the [MUG] Rhod.2.2.BLAZN.072110 if that helps.
I had another touchpro2 that got lost but wifi worked perfectly! WHEN I TRY TO UPGRADE ROOTFS AND ZIMAGE ANDROID STOPS WORKING!!!It boots goes to the lock screen and vibrates and restarts into windows mobile!

Possible fixes for issue include's deleting your data.img located in your andboot folder of the Sdcard and deleting your cache folder usually located (If I'm not mistaken) on the root of the SDcard.
If the above method does not work then you may want to try a fresh install by deleting all android related files or reformatting your SDCard but I'm sure this will do the trick. I've had that issue before.

You don't really have to. If your Router supports it then switch the encryption type to WPA instead of WEP. WPA encryption has been reported to somehow work with this build.

SO drop from WEP to WPA?? I'll try that and post back..Thanks mna.
I really like Android but I HAVE to have WiFi..Theres really no way around that and since I couldn't get it to work...I kept using WinMo.
Should I delete my SD card and put everything back on??
Unfortuantly you tricks didnt work (all of them ) thanks for the help. DOES ANYBODY ELSE KNOW WHATS GOING ONNNNN! EVOLOPERS PLEASE FIXX It!!!
My wifi-button is grey. It is not possible, to start wifi.
How can i fix this? In an older android-version (with sense) it was running.
Is there an example for wifi in the startup.txt. I can read english only very slow and i did not find it in the 756 sites of the froyo-thread.
okay so with a format of the sd card and the installation of the latest releases of android from the sticky and the newest kernals etc.. no go... has anyone who has had issues found a way to get wifi working on their phone?
I too think the last time my phone worked was months and months ago. I would only really play with android every once and a while so I really dont remember.

Uh... Ok? You HAVE to have wifi. We get it. I've also heard WEP doesn't work, besides it's not even secure... you're not really dropping from WEP to WPA, you're upgrading from WEP to WPA buddy

Wow... Please don't scream at the devs to fix something that already works. It's probably something you're doing...
I would definitely try updating to the newest everything. You say it reboots into WinMo every time - try different combinations of files. I pretty much always run 'bleeding edge' tho, and it's always worked out for me... Perhaps you're not replacing all the files correctly...?
Also... I did see one post from a dev that's going to be discouraging... They said that "some" of the TMobile TP2's just don't work with wifi. I don't think they know why, because if wifi works for the devices devs have, then it's very hard to troubleshoot your problem. It also seems to be effecting a small slice of TMobile TP2's, if that's any consolation. Ditch the teenage wireless company

I wonder if it's a radio thing... It's just odd that only some are effected. Has there been any correlation in radio versions or anything like that with phones that aren't working...?
I think my phone is broken. In WM I have after every reboot a new wifi-mac. With wifi on in WM my phone is very slow. I did task 29, tried different ROMs and Radio-ROMs.
Without wifi I have no problems with the phone.

Do you have wifi-mac-address-Problems in Windows Mobile? (maybe with router MAC-Filter)
My phone is a german HTC Touch Pro2. (formerly O2-branded)
it seems that
not a single froyo; froyo sens or aosp roms is working with my router.
I get "obtaining address" the hole time but not further.
has someone an idea how to get around this problem?
I know others have the same issue so it would be nice to have here some real info on what to do.
For others having the same problem:
please do not post the same problem here, of curse you should give reevant information if you having the same problem. but keep the thread clean of "me too reports" or remarks such as: "this can't be it works fine for me."
UPDATE 1 Resetting the router is not helping at all.
static IP isnot the solution as well.
I am lookin now for a ROM without Wifi N modificated driver.
thx.

You must be doing something wrong?
do you have the latest firmware in the router?
Im using a Belkin N router without any issues at all.
I also had issues with my Belkin router. Seems like a Belkin problem, because with other routers there was no problem at all.
Unfortunately I did not find a solution.

have tried to manually change the IP address of your desire?
You're asking us not post if I'm having the same issue, that seems counter-productive?
I'm having the same issue. Finding this one a little difficult one to troubleshoot. I can say that it's not specific to Belkin routers, as it happens on both my work and home wireless routers:
Netgear Wireless-N 300 ADSL 2+ DGN 2000
Netgear DG834G
Both of which have most up-to-date firmware.
Intermittently gives problems. Haven't had an opportunity to test whether a router reboot resolves the issue temporarily.
The problem seems to be with Nexus ported Froyo, not Sense-Froyo.
As suggested above, most people find that setting a static IP address works. Perhaps try an app called Wifi Static if you have multiple wifi networks with different networks with different static IPs. But in my opinion these are workarounds to a problem inherent in Android.

please have a look at the first post I updated it.
since my phone works just fine when i use Eclair 2.1 with Sense.
so I started compairing the builds seeing that they all seem to have a "hack" to bring Wifi N standard to the Desire so it might have something todo with the WIFI N enabling that all of these roms provide.
but I cat finde a build without it can anyone point me to such a build so I can try it?
thx.

I tried many radios, many WM roms, but no success with wifi, it just not work with 2.2 Android...........Belkin N1
Do normal computers work with N connection? I've used Belkin's routers in past and they all have given me issues(They look sexy though). If you disable N on Belkin's router and only keep G, does it work? Have you tried manually setting IP address, gateway, subnet and DNS?
My work around was to set a static IP on my desire only issue now I have to remember to switch back to DHCP when I leave home. Anyone wondering how to do this on android go to WiFi then press menu button again to display the advanced settings.
Would still like to find a permanent solution for the Belkin report firmware.
So I have done the official 2.2 upgrade but now my wifi isn't working. I have gone into software updates and updated the profile, prl, and checked for new software and firmware.
Wifi keeps saying "obtaining ip address". It's my home wifi and before the update it was working flawlessly.
Appreciate the help.
Do I have this posted in the wrong section, or has this question been answered? I've searched high and low.
Try reflashing newest radio and wimax. Flash one at a time. This has happen to me before with wifi and 4g but on 1. 47. If that does not work flash calklins v1. 02 rom. I am using that on wifi typing thos response. Good luck

from the sound of it he flashed the official OTA so probably isnt rooted.
Have you tried it with any other routers to see if it connects?
try unplugging yor router and re plugging it back in to reset it and try connecting if that doesnt work sounds like your radio is messed up and you may have to take ti to a sprint store so they can reflash it if you arent rooted.

I am using the router for my laptop right now so I dont think the router is the problem.
I had the unofficial .3 update which is when my wifi stopped working, then I upgraded with the fix to .6 last night, still no wifi. I am not root, just bone stock .6 froyo...
Take it to sprint service center. Or delete the wifi settings in the phone and reconnect.

The reason i suggest resetting the router is because they often store information about a MAC address, When the information changes sometimes routers have connection issues. you dont see it a lot and since most of the time the information doesnt change (you dont update much on your pcs that would cause this). When it does change (ie a radio from a phone) it can sometimes cause issues. that's why i suggested you restart the router. I have had it happen several times when changing radios on my phones over the years.
Just because 1 thing connects to a router does not mean it cant contribute to another thing not connecting to it. I also wouldnt bet my life that it would fix it or anything.i was just giving a suggestion that HAS worked for me in the past when similar issues happened.IT was a good place to start. It would also help verify the problem is in deed with the phone from an actual tech point stand instead of an assumption.
anyway best of luck with getting this fixed

it is definatly the phone then. It sounds like thw Wimax radio didnt flash right. With out Root i think your best bet is to drop by a sprint store they should be able to reflash it for you.
@chris17house
I have the same issue on my EVO that is still on 1.47.
The first time I connected my router gives my phone a lease for a ip address (lets say 192.168.0.010) and associates it with the mac address of my phone.
When I try to reconnect at a later time, the lease for my phone on the router has not expired, but the router gives my phone a new ip address (let say 192.168.0.020), which causes a conflict with the same mac address, but two different ip address. Once I reset my router and my phone the problem is fixed, because the router releases the lease and my phone does a dns flush.
Do you think flashing the wimax or radio instead of reflashing the entire rom would be worth a try? And if so, where is that file located please.
Ok, so wifi connects everywhere except my home. I have unplugged the router and modem for an hour and reconnected them. I still am unable to connect to my home wifi. Is there something more i need to be doing?
I was having the same problem with work and home, but all I did was forget both locatations and discover them again.

Thats not the problem.
I have previously posted on how my WiFi was only working via a ****ty app.
Now I have some more info that makes me beleive that our home wifi router is the cause of that.
I went to my friends house and WiFi worked completely normal there, so it must be the routers fault right?
I have also reflashed the radio, so it probably isn't it's fault.
It all started happening when I updated to the OTA 2.2
Any help on how to fix this?

what about flashing a custom rom?
Well, I'm running CM7 with 2.3 and it's still the same :/
I don't have pc wifi to experiment with. But I will try to tell something.
Wifi on wildfire has the support of b and g networks by default. So no wifi "n" network on wildfire by default. There is a chance of difference in these network types between ur wifi and ur friends wifi, such that it works only with ur friends one.
And I think I saw somewhere in development section that someone made wifi "n" network working on wildfire. But Im not curious about it since I don't use it.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
But what's really odd, is that it worked like it should on stock 2.1, so obviously 2.2 ****ed something up...right?
I wanted to switch to CM7 from Leedroid, which I did. Everything worked fine except I couldn't find my WiFi, So i tried several other Radios, still didn't work. And then I flashed 2 other ROM's, just to see if works. Oxygen and MIUI, still the same problem on both. And later i switched to the ICS Beta ROM. And WIFI worked perfectly, with the same radio as I had before. I could stay with ICS since WiFi worked there, but I need A2SD+ so I won't run out of storage. So I switched to some different version of MIUI called MIUI_Au which I really like and want to keep, has everything I need. But still the same problem (no WiFi). Well, But I wanted to go further. So I tried creating a portable WIFI hotspot on 2 other smartphones. And I was able to connect to both of them. So I think it may have something to do with my router, but we got 3 smartphones and 6 computers connected to it and everything works perfect, it's just my Desire that won't find it.
Full wipe, cache + dalvik cache for every ROM flash. What's wrong?
go closer to the router..... I found CM7 based roms tend to have lower signal strength than sense roms.... might help might not....

Thanks for the reply, but I've already tried that without success..
EDIT: I had CM7 way before Leedroid, and wifi worked perfect.
Does the phone actually see the signal and fail to connect or is it not seeing it at all? Either way, try rebooting the router and the phone and try again and also try disabling security on the router temporarily and see if it will connect. You may also want to check that the router is actually broadcasting a visible SSID and if not then you should maybe try enabling that also.

Can't even find it.. What you mean with "Broadcasting a visible SSID" i can see it's SSID on other smartphones and stuff if that's what you mean. I have not tried disabling the encryption on the router yet, but I had similar encryption on the other WiFi hotspots and it worked perfect. Can flashing older radios help maybe? Thanks.
Whatever, flashed back to Leedroid, maybe not my first choice. But at least the Wifi works, feel free to lock this thread.

Well, had you had the patience to sort your router out (which I'm pretty sure was at fault and not the phone) then maybe you wouldn't need to run a less preferable ROM. Indeed, had you followed my advice and disabled the router security temporarily then we may have had some idea if we were on the right road. Anyway, good luck with your chosen ROM.

I'm gonna try fixing it another time maybe, Can you just give a hint on what to do, we say if I disable the security on the router, and it works. what should I do next, I won't leave my router without WPA2 encryption. Yay! I had the same issue: everyone else could see the SSID but me and I'm running CM7 (Nexus One). Then I saw your suggestion and discovered a menu I wasn't even aware of(!) and configured CM7 to see all 14 channels and, voila, it works! (Not sure what the default was as neither option was enabled.) THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
P.S. Could anyone please tell me why oh why CM7 has this option and why it is not set to a value that works by deafult?
