Dear all,
After several readings and searches in this forum, it seems I was not able to find the answer to this probably very simple (pure newbie's) question...
The "similar threads" found just with the title I wrote are not pertinent here.
I first apologize for my very bad Engish... I hope it will not prevent you to undertand the meaning of my question.
Here is my configuration: LG G3 D855, 32Go, Android 5.0, software version V20h-EUR-XX
I come from an excellet Galaxy S4 under kitkat 4.4.2 (unfortunately, strange repetitive crashes led me to change and let the S4 to Samsung guarantee).
Here is the problem:
when I want to send a SMS/MMS to one of my contacts, I do not need to see the FAX number, the email, the inhouse phone... I just have to get the mobile phone number
Even if I defined the default phone number for my contacts, the soft always propose me these dummy (useless) propositions for SMS/MMS.
The consequence is that in my favorite list of contacts, there are just 6 contacts. I expected to get 6 possible phone numbers (this was the cas with my S4).
Unfortunately, I get 13 possible contacts (including FAX, email, home phone, etc...).
With such way of working, total of 63 contatcs are transformet in 173 possible "dummy contacts" and this is very difficult/slow to find out the only one right one
If you have an idea to help me to solve this "small" problem, I would be very indebted to you
And of course, all my appologies if I missed the answer somewhere....
The stock sms app is pretty bad. Try textra, 8sms or evolvesms.
Thanks a lot se1988
I will try to see iwith your diffrerent suggestions. Once more, thank you for your attention

It's right there in front of you! "SMS Groupifier" -- sheesh! (no, sorry, just kidding, no offense... I sympathize whenever functionality you are used to on one platform is reduced when migrating to another... especially one competing to outdo the other. I am sure you have searched AndroLib.com -- but if not, maybe a thin thin chance there is something else there.
i tried groupsms too
same crap
very annoying....cant believe i cant send my sms on this little computer cellphone
any help or idea?
Apparently there is an app called Text Easy also Chomp allows you to send to google groups. Discussed at Android Community

Hi All,
I'm a little new to Android (being a long suffering WinMo users) and love the OS except for one little issue (which I can't find reference for any where!), the issue is:
When I receive meeting requests into my mailbox (via activesync) there's no way of previewing them in my calendar! With the latest versions of WinMo any new meeting requests in my inbox would also exist in my calendar so I could easily see if I can accept or decline the meeting. With my desire, it seems I have to accept, look in my calendar then send a decline if it's not right!
Please, any help would be most appreciated, am I missing something (configuration of app that will help!?)
Also, on the subject of calendar, does anyone know of a way to enter or view appointment timezones?
Unfortunately I'm a big traveler so I arranging/receiving meetings in other timezones is very common!
Cheers
Matt
PS. Can a mod move this to General... I've posted to dev by mistake!!!
Hey there,
I just unpacked my T-Mobile USA Vibrant (modified Galaxy S). I love the phone, but as always, there are things that I think are missing. So I played around a little bit with it and one thing kept bothering me.
The phone integrates all my Facebook contacts, which is great. But I think it would be a slick feature if you could actually send them a message directly from the contact list. As of now, I have to go into a browser or use the FB app to send messages and I think it would be a lot more convenient to just go into the contact and send a message from there (like a text basically).
Does anybody now if there is an app or some piece of software that can help me out here? If not, do you even think it is possible to do it? I am not a developer, but I can imagine there are some issues, cause as far as I know Samsung didn't open there UI code for developers yet (or showed any intention of doing it).
So I am excited what you guys think of that and hope there is a solution somewhere out there
Phill
edit: I just saw there is a specific Vibrant forum. If the admins would like to put this post in the right place I would appreciate it. However, I think the issue is omnipresent among all versions of the SGS.
This would be a fantastic mod for contacts I would think I don't know why someone hasn't done this previously. I think if we get the guy doing the standard froyo / eclair dialler / contacts mod to do this it will be extremely innovative.
Contacts -> Groups -> Facebook -> menu -> Send message -> Choose recipient
Wow, long path... Should work though.
hey yea that works. but it is kind of a long way dont you think? Thanks anyway, it got me one step closer What I think would be a tremendous improve is to add the fb msg feature directly to the first contact screen. You know, when you slide left on a contact for texting and right for calling. If there is no number available but a fb contact it should automatically go to the fb messaging.
Does anyone know if the quick responses feature works with google voice text. I don't have SMS plan. So it would be super useful to have that feature. I have google voice installed. But I don't see any setting for that.
If it's like other functions (at least on gingerbread), like voice actions, it will ask you what you want to use to send the text when you use the feature, and you can choose GV as default there.
I don't have a GN to confirm this, so this is only an educated guess.
I posted a question about this the other day. It does not look like there is an intent for this.
When I tested this, the reply came from my cell phone number, not my google voice number. There IS an intent for "send text..." in Voice Actions but doesn't look like for this. I hope there's a fix!
Maybe a dev can take up creating one?
Back with my Samsung Galaxy S II, I had loaded an MIUI rom and used their five-points lock screen - one of the short cuts was for the SMS app. Someone had created an APK that I installed, that after installation, when I went to the SMS shortcut, up popped up an intent asking if I wanted the Messages or Google Voice app. I wish I had the know-how to do something like this!
Is there any way for us to get this to work with google voice? I want it bad!
Did anyone get this figured out?
I'm using ICS on a captivate and use GV for everything. I would really like to get this working so I can use the quick responses.
I'd really like to see this fixed/added too. After searching, I really only saw these two other forums tracking it and wasn't sure if there are other places I should be raising my hand. I can confirm that it's the only part of the OS that I've come across that does not let me choose Google Voice instead of the native phone or messenger.
(just found out I can't link as a first time member...)
rough web address: google code android issues #23176
rough web address: google code android issues #23442
Is this something that would likely pop up as an update to ICS? Is this something that would likely require loading an entirely different ROM? Are those questions even appropriately constructed (new to android)?
I made an app a few months back that let you share some text... one of the frequently referenced intents in Android documentation would only send to Messaging (show you the messaging app with the text pre-filled in) and not GV..
Another, less publicized intent let you "Share" with all kinds of applications. This was the only one that would prefill GV and Messaging (and email and tons of other apps). But again, it was an intent that would open the apps pre-filled, not send it.
Another thing that could be done in the app was to just send a text from within the app.. The user never sees the messaging or any other app and the text is sent. This is obviously can only work through native SMS not GV. (For this, an app that uses this feature needs the SMS permission)
--
I haven't done the quick responses yet, but I assume they send the text without taking you to an app, so that's not an intent that's sending a message through the OS, and impossible with GV. Again, I haven't looked at Quick Responses, so I don't know if this is how it behaves.
Please Star the issue on Google Code to get Google's attention!
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=23176
Also - disregard my last comment. The intent to send through GV already exists, they just need to call the right intent in the dialer app / quick response. This fix would literally take them 5 minutes to do. Star it to get higher priority on the issue!

Also check out http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=34175 - it looks like this reflects in Jelly Bean as text voice actions not working.

Because the bug still needs attention?
Just got myself a GN and I was a bit disappointed with the dialer.
With my old phone I could just spelling the name of a contact and the dialer would list contacts.
GN just puts in the numbers no direct search ??
Is it some option or something I am missing or do I need another dialer??
Love the feel of it just wish I did not have to go to contacts to find a number...
The stock dialer does not support T9 Smart dial. Either use another dialer, or use the google search bar to search for the contact you want to call.
Or spend a minute amount effort and tap the search icon in the bottom left of the dialer then start typing the name. It's not really much time wasted...
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
I also wish the T9 dialer was built into stock Android as it is with HTC Sense, Touchwiz and MIUI.
If you would like Google to change this, star the following threads in the Android issue tracker:

While it may not be much more effort, it is quite clear that this feature is available in other stock dialers, then why not in google's own?
I also store my contacts on the sim card and if anyone has noticed, then you cannot import all contacts into phone at once. You have to manually go through all contacts which again is a sore point.
I think that is a valid point to expect in the dialer, not whether searching seperately is an option or not!

Why not synchronise your contacts with google, so if you:
1. lose your phone.
2. Phone gets broken
3. Somebody steals it
it only takes 2 minutes before you have all your contacts again.
There are a lot of Contacts apps around on the market, and i bet even 1 of them supports transferring your sim contacts to the phone.
Earlier i used GO Contacts, but they don't support ICS yet. So for now im using DW Contacts (looks ok, only used it for an hour though).

Yes and accepted, but that behaviour has been standard all along. Rather than make me select one contact at a time from my hundred contacts, that one simple click would have been better. Anyways I prefer not to upload contacts into the cloud because
1. I may not have the consent of some of the ppl that I hold details for, e.g. bosses and they may not prefer it and
2. I personally do not know who or how this data is used/accessed in which case I would rather not. And personally judging by Google's appetite for gathering our personal data, I would rather opt out. Its just me....
Sorry OP to have hijacked your thread..
Correction - User error Apologies, I have just read the manual and it does allow for an 'import all' option to copy all contacts from SIM to phone.
To bad wish they would put that in its a very nice feature I seen no reason to be left out.
Anyone know a good dialer to use instead ?? Would love one with the same look if possible ???
Perhaps it is some sort of lawsuit infringement that prohibits them to build it into the dialer. I don't think Apple has this either, right? Maybe Microsoft has the patent on it.
3rd party dialers have this feature. In fact, I just install the MIUI dialer because it is just awesome. It is in the market and not listed under "MIUI Dialer" but "e9" or something. It works great.

I know from gingerbread that 3rd party apps can't clear unanswered calls. Some if the apps solves that by using the stock dialer list when selecting the notification.
Anyway its limitations in the OS and not the apps.
