Personally, I would flash a near stock ROM like MaximusHD. If you go back to actual stock, and downgrade, you will get notifications for software updates all the time.

You'll need the nandroid. You won't be able to run a Kit-Kat ROM with the old firmware. Plus you won't get the updates without the older ROM. Flash them all, then take the OTAs up until 4.4.4.

No. You flash the nandroid by putting it into your TWRP backup folder, then restoring.
The firmware is flashed either through ADB/fastboot, or by renaming it to 0P6BIMG.zip, placing it onto the root of your extSD, and entering hboot.
The prompts will direct you (vol up to flash, power button to reboot.) That only will work with a firmware zip though. Not an .exe

Truthfully, I am unsure. I know what to do when you upgrade. Firmware first, then ROM (in this case nandroid). I don't know if it will really matter or not. Like I said, I am unfamiliar with reverting.
If it was me (once again, I haven't done this ~ It's just what I would try if it was me, from my thoughts about the process), I would do the opposite. Restore the nandroid first, then flash the older firmware.

1: flash the firmware twice in a row.....yes TWICE
2: Go into the bootloader and check the OS version number. If its downgraded to 1.54 its oke
3: flash the recovery which the nandroid backup is made with (probably a 2.7 based TWRP) and then RESTORE the nandroid backup from inside the CUSTOM recovery.
4: reboot

i dont make nandroid backup because andoid and all file erase on my phone when i instal other RUU....i instal RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_S_Vodafone_UK_2.17.161.4_Radio_2.1204.137D1.21_release_280390_signed
when i instal that RUU change my main version
That ruu does not work. When you unlock the bootloader and flash a custom rom you need to make nandroid backup. That ruu could not wipe your phone because it doesn't install at all ! Now you can only return to stock with a stock nand backup.
So what's the issue ? What did you do ?
You previously installed the 2.17 ruu. Then updated the phone ..... and then ?

You can't downgrade to 4.0.4 if you are not S-OFF. And no S-OFF for HOX
Give us the result of the command
fastboot getvar all
Tho looks like you want to downgrade, so only if u have an s-offed hox you can do. Which u might have since you installed diffderent ruu.

4: flash the boot.img from the 4.1.1 custom rom
5: make a full wipe in recovery (do NOT wipe the sdcard)
6: install the 4.1.1 rom.zip
Make sure it's a rom with a main above 3.16.xxx like 3.20. Or 3.18......
Just a quick question that I'm sure I know the answer to but want to double check first.
I want to return to stock firmware for OTA updates but im on ARHD 5.0 (4.4.2).
ROM version 1.54.401.5
My hboot in bootloader says HBOOT-3.16.0.000 and Radio 1.15.2133156.UA13G.
I've seen 2 guides on here for returning to stock. Can i use wither of them or is one better than the other? I dont have any nandroid or recovery backups that I did myself.

What was your original software version? Doesn't help going on ARHD's ROM version if you previously ran a Rogers Canadian version for example.
What was your CID? Software version prior to custom ROM?
More details then we can provide better help as well.

Ok when I said version I meant 1.54.xxx.x etc but it's fine, HTC__001 would make it 1.54.401.5/10.
So go to the Collection thread(you posted link yourself in OP) and download the backup for the HTC__001 1.54.401.10. Restore the backup, flash back stock recovery(also available on that thread) and you're good for OTA.
Flash back stock recovery -
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
But you can also get the details on how to flash and where to unpack the backup .zip file you'll download in the first 2 posts of the collection thread. :good:

Sorry yes i was originally on 1.54.401.5 but then did an OTA to 1.154.401.10 before installing ARHD. Can I just flash the nandroid for 1.154.401.10 then and it will work?
Will I still be rooted If i restore the nandroid and stock recovery or will that depend if the uploader rooted it first? as i want root and keep unlocked bootloader but want stock firmware with OTA updates.

In general the nandroid backups aren't rooted, as they try to recover the original stock ROM. Thus you will loose root be going back to stock. I would do the following:
restore nandroid 1.54.401.10
flash 1.54.401.10 stock recovery
perform ota to 2.22.401.5
flash custom recovery (e.g. TWRP)
flash SuperSu zip
Following that way, you'll get your M8 updated to latest stock ROM and regain root.

Yoda
Thanks that's perfect

I have Installed
3.28.401.6 - TWRP Thanks to 10rdan

1. Are you sure that's the correct backup ? You mentioned earlier your stock ROM is 4.4.2 which is should be 1.54.401.5 or 1.54.401.10
Post result of fastboot getvar all (delete serial no. & imei no.) to determine the correct version.
2. You need to replace the TWRP that you installed with a stock recovery.img
OTA needs stock recovery.img not TWRP.img
Can't use TWRP for OTA update, use only stock recovery

I assumed you got TWRP from the xda TWRP thread but perhaps you didn't.
Upper right, click on "HTC 10 ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other Development" subforum, then click on the TWRP thread.

Good evening, please request your help. My mobile came the update ota a android oreo and at the end of the installation came out an encryption error and the mobile only restarted but if I can enter the recovery twrp, or fastboot or download mode.
Previously I had unlocked the bootloader and installed twrp but it was not rooted or installed any rom.
The errors that I get are the following:
If I want to restore system with a backup in the sd deploy, I can not restore system mounted in read mode.
If I try to install the ota it comes out invalid zip format.
The configuration is as follows:
Unlocked

lk-1.0.0.0000
os-2.41.400.51
Cid HTC-060
Mid 2PS620000
Twrp version: 3.2.1-1
If someone can tell me what to do, thank you very much.

you need stock recovery to install the OTA. please download it from: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71743759&postcount=524. Reboot to download mode and flash it with fastboot, before trying to install the OTA again.

Help? Yes. Do it for you? No.
What, specifically, were you not clear on?

By pressing volume up and down on the black screen, it does not display any message or menu, only if I press down volume and power send me to the bootloader.

I'm not sure if the recovery that I installed is the right one for my phone.

That's the stock recovery that you just flashed. Now boot normally and the stock recovery will be able to attempt to flash the OTA update.
Edit: Power button + Vol Up to see recovery options IIRC.

It is definitely the right one, extracted from a 2.41.400.5 RUU by the user who shared this. As mentioned you should power up your phone normally and let the ota install.
If it's not happening that way then your ota file might be corrupted and I would suggest that you RUU back to stock if you can't boot into Android or your backup cannot be restored somehow.

The stock recovery can not start the phone, try to flash the ota that is in the sd card and deploy signature error.
I read the related threads but it is not very clear to me, if I can restore the phone to nougat or oreo without brick or without using ninja root sunshine.
I also found this RUU https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/india-htc-10-india-users-t3357288/page60 https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72475229&postcount=534 but I do not know if it is the correct one or if there is already an Oreo RUU for the Indian version.
I thank you very much for your help

That is the Nougat RUU for your device. You should be able to use this to get back to stock nougat and take OTAs to Oreo. Currently no Oreo RUU is available for the Indian version so this is the only route.
Just download the file and rename it 2PS6IMG.zip, place it in the root directory of your SD card and flash it in download mode.

Thanks, I was able to install the RUU and restart the phone. The problem that now I do not have imei or baseband or mobile data. In this case I should try to install the ota oreo or follow this tutorial:

Just take ota to Oreo and your imei and baseband problem will be solved, unless you want to stay on nougat. In that case you follow the steps listed in the thread you linked in your previous post.
