I have two HTC One M8 phones. One is a T-mobile phone converted GPE. The other one is a brand new unlocked phone I just bought from HTC. I've been having some trouble with my GPE phone not having LTE service where my new unlocked one has full service (T-mobile network). Radio version on new phone is 1.24.21331147A1.09G. Old phone is 1.22 something. Is there a way to pull radio.img off the new phone for flashing to GPE phone? Or is there a flashable 1.24 radio version around somewhere?
Also, are radio images only device specific or are they also carrier specific and/or ROM specific? In other words, does it matter what carrier or ROM for any given radio image?
edit: My One M8 converted GPE is S-off and Super CID.

Hi everyone,
This is my first post on XDA and i'm actually thrilled.
So I have the Taiwanese unlocked model of the HTC One (M8) and I'm thinking over fully converting it to a GPE with the famous RUU.
I tried searching the forums but couldn't find a strict answer for my issue: If I fully convert my device, I know this means the radio image will also change to the stock one of the GPE version.
What does it mean? Will I lose signal because this is a different radio image than the Asian one? Do I have to change the radio image after installing the RUU.zip?
I'm fairly new to modifying my devices so take it easy on me.
THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE.
Nimi.
If it's anything like the regular M8, you can just reflash the radio of your choice.

Yes, It is anything like the regular GSM M8, just the CPU runs at 2.5GHZ rather than 2.3 on US models, and of course it supports different bands.
So, I do everything just like the tutorials say and after im finished I can reflash the Taiwanese radio for example? Will I still get OTA updates?
Thanks!
You should be able to. But you may want to wait until someone with the Asian version can confirm. If you want to test it out, flash the 4.4.3 GPE ruu and see if you get the 4.4.4 OTA.

I have Asian version. And I have rooted to convert to GPE. Everytime I install the GPE rom or OTA update. I always have to flash the asian radio so that I will get signal. I wish there was a way such that OTA will install and know that an Asian radio is required; or maybe something that will prevent my radio from being overwritten.
About the question if you'll get OTA updates automatically, I remember you have to modify you CID or MID or something. You will have to look up for that...
I have the Asian model as well, I converted over and placed the asian radio in the ruu zip before flashing, and now whenever i get an ota it doesnt change the radio
Hi all. I have a Telus One M8 that i recently converted to GPE using the non rooted GPE 4.4.4 RUU. Since converting I have noticed poor LTE reception. I have done some digging and found out that the GPE M8 does not support the 1700Mhz bands. Unfortunately Telus uses 1700Mhz for much of their LTE coverage. To fix this it should be as easy as flashing the correct Telus supported radio, correct? In the process of converting I changed the CID to GOOGL001 in order to receive the upcoming 5.0 update. In order to flash a different radio on the GPE RUU I will have to SuperCID? Which will then not allow me to take the 5.0 OTA update (most likely)? Just want to make sure I am correct in that I will have to choose between a Radio img that supports 1700mhz, or being able to accept the 5.0 OTA update.
Also, once the GPE RUU was flashed, do I have to go back and "fastboot oem unlock" the bootloader, or does it stay unlocked? Currently when I boot into fastboot the pink banner at the top says unlocked, I just want to make sure im not needlessly wiping my data.
I have tried searching (both in the GPE RUU thread, and the Canadian thread), but everytime I search within a thread I get "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms." even on terms that i know would come up in a search
Thanks for the Help!
So I'm wondering if I'm the only one who has CID ACG__001 and build 1.33.510.8? There seem to be no RUU nor are there any sign of ota coming soon for me. I'm starting to regret switching carrier to nTelos, and I'm in a 2yr contract too.
HTC One m9
Android 5.0.2
Build 1.33.510.8
CID ACG__001
Carrier nTelos
Not to necro, but.
I just purchased a "Sprint" HTC One M9, it has 1.33.510.8, ACG--001 and appears to be a C Spire phone? No problems unlocking bootloader, or flashing TWRP, but getting S-OFF and a rom has proven to be a nightmare.
I want to install CM13 on my M8, but before I do, I need to upgrade to mm baseband. I'm not sure which version to download, though since my m8 is att I assume GPE would be compatible, since they are both gsm. following the link in this thread did not work, Dead link.

Can anyone tell me if gpe baseband will be compatible, and link to a download for me?

You should use the baseband that supports the bands needed for your carrier (AT&T?). GPE baseband is best suited for T-Mobile.
If you are on the AT&T network, just flash the RUU intended for your AT&T M8 to update the baseband. RUU will wipe phone, so backup accordingly before RUU.
I'm on metro pcs, a subsidiary of T-Mobile. so then gpe should work, right?
Hi there, I picked up an HTC One M9 for a good price from China and overall I am pretty pleased with it however it seems to be wired for CDMA updates only and so it is stuck on Android 6.0, as attempting to update it says that updates are only available over CDMA networks.
Rebooting to bootloader It tells me
*** Software status: Official ***
*** UNLOCKED ***
*** S-OFF ***
I have tried using a wide selection of RUU files to update the phone and pretty much every one of them gives me an error. For example RUU_HIMA_UL_N70_SENSE80_ATT_MR_NA_Gen_Unlock_4.30.617.12 takes me through the install process, reboots the phone to the bootloader and after several warning screens tells me that it will update from 3.37.605.19 to 4.30.617.12 The phone shows it is uploading, but then quickly ends up frozen whilst the PC dialog shows:
ERROR [132]: SIGNARURE ERROR
Exiting reboots the phone back to the starting condition.
I've tried all of the RUU files that I could find (with a higher version) and had the same error. Not sure where to go next, any help very gratefully received!
Cheers,
..alex
Please take a look at the ReadMe thread. It will tell you why you can't use 4.x RUUs on a phone with a 3.x firmware and why you should never try to flash a GSM RUU on a CDMA device.

Thanks for your response and the redirect to the readme I can see that the RUU update path is not going to work. Is there any way to switch this phone to GSM or is it permanently stuck add a CDMA device?
Cheers

It's permanently stuck on the CDMA firmware. Those are two completely different technologies.
However, the CDMA M9 supports some GSM frequencies so it shouldn't be completely useless for you. You probably just won't get LTE with it.
In regard to android updates: I don't know whether there already is an android 7 update for the verizon variant (verizon is super slow). If there is you might be able to update the phone with an unofficial firmware pack (like the ones that Sneakyghost provides) since you already have S-OFF. Although Sneakyghost himself doesn't provide ones for verizon phones you might find some in the verizon M9 forum. Afterwards you would only need to re-flash the corresponding 4.x RUU (assuming that you want to stay on the stock rom - otherwise you could directly flash whichever custom rom you want to use).

If I were to pursue this strategy would the end product be a phone that had flipped to GSM and could connect to 4G? It feels like the difference is not a hardware one - that is the phones must have the hardware to go either way right? Or do they have a different comms chipset?
Cheers,
..alex

You cannot flash a GSM firmware on a CDMA device (or vice versa) without damaging it unrecoverably. The partition layout isn't the same. All you can do is upgrading or downgrading your firmware but switching your SKU (even if it's another CDMA one*) will result in damages. The difference between GSM and CDMA phones lies within their hardware and their software. Although newer CDMA phones support some GSM frequencies and are therefore able to connect to some GSM networks they still aren't able to get G/2G/3G/H+/LTE on every carrier's network.
* Not even the different CDMA variants of the M9 share the same partition layout.
