[Q] Sudden Bootloop, HTC Desire HD CM7 - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Helloo, eh so my phone suddenly started being in the bootloop, I think first time I tried to start it today it crashed on boot and must have turned off by low current, the USB jack is a bit lose.
I tried starting with Volume+Power and I noticed that when I reboot the bootloader from fastboot it says that images are missing, I don't know if it's supposed to be like that or not.
I've been using CM7 for years without any problems until today.
What can I do? Is there a way to backup and safe my data? I can go into Volume+Power boot but I don't know what I would have to do there (theoretically I could use google but sifting through a dozen pages about similar problems got me a bit frustrated right now)
Anyhow, it's been stuck in boot for 15 minutes now and I restarted it several times, giving up now because turning it off requires me to remove the battery.
Just now I tried to get into bootloader again to post some info about what's actually installed, the rumble went off three times, nothing happened but that the orange LED is blinking again, as opposed to being constantly orange but now it doesn't react to the power switch anymore.
Ayy llmao :I
I also had a look at other threads here but nothing made me understand.
--- edit ---
hmm the blinking apparently means it's on and not that it was loading or behaving normally, still trying to get to bootloader I think I'm doing something wrong

fastboot bootlader leads to 4-5 img files missing, but perhaps this is normal since i'm not actually flashing?
--- edit2 ---
Anyway, backin up my data per clockworkrecoverymod
I still don't know what I should do but will probably read more bout it anyway :E
--- edit3---
got it to start again after reset

Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum for more relevant answers.

Good luck

Try and charge overnight.. Sounds like your boot.img wasn't properly flashed.

[Q] Another i broke my phone thread. [HTC Desire Brick]

Hoping someone can help me with this.
Ive been searching around various forums and such and the level of info is slightly overwhelming. Im kinda at at loss of which
route to go down. However most of what i have tried has not worked.
I have an HTC Desire, it was origanally running on orange. However, i unbranded it and unlocked it then installed a stock
HTC rom. Eventually updated to Froyo. This was done some time ago and i really dont remember what steps i took.
The Phone has been running fine with no issues, reboots or lockups at all. I had been using a "Three" sim and running fine for months.
I was playing "Angry Birds" (damn addictive game) with the charger plugged in an charging when the phone rebooted and got stuck on the HTC
Boot logo screen.
Im totally unable to boot into android and alas cant access the system.
It seems im unable to access adb in anyway but i seem to be able to run fastboot commands somewhat successfully.
I have no real way to access the SD card, i have no micro sd card convertor and i guess i cant access it if i cant boot into
android?
The only real info i can provide is from the Power+Back Screen:
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-ON

MICROP-031d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNTH0101
RADIO-5.09.05.30_2

Unfortunately i bought this phone on ebay, so i cant send it back to orange (it was someones contract replacement, and uneeded)
Having read around it seems that HBOOT 93 and SHIP S-ON pretty much makes this unrecoverable?
Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks in advance
*Update*
Partly answered my own question. Seems im able to add items to the sd card via fastboot flash /sdcard/ filename
However still not sure what files to add
could you boot into the recovery?
in fastboot mode, use vol down and power button to select.

Yes, however upon pressing recovery it goes back to the HTC Boot Logo.
Bumping this for my sanity.
have you tried flashing a PB99IMG.zip?
Ive tried sending a few PB99IMG files via fastboot flash /sdcard/ PB99IMG.zip
The file seems to send fine and i can see the progress bar on the fastboot interface on the phone. However i always get a message back about the signature being wrong. Perhaps as a result of the wrong PB file?
your phone crashing without you doing anything except gaming could indicate an hardware issue.
anyways, first of all, going to htc boot logo when choosing recovery is pretty normal - it takes about 20 seconds until recovery is started.
if it doesnt start after that time, your internal data is bugged. install one of those RUU roms, to bring back you phone to factory default os. you have to root it again afterwards, but it should restore a working system.
there are a lot of other ways to restore your phone, but try these first
Murdock thanks for the advice. I had previously tried a a few RUU's however it would never let me install a version older than i already had.
I also had a fair few niggles getting the PC to recognise my phone during RUU install.
I got around this by using the older version of HTC sync which worked great (v 2.0.40)
After searching around i managed to find:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed.exe
This worked fine and currently the phone is working. However, it has rebooted itself once. I can only hope it stays stable as ive no idea about persistant boot issues.
If anyone is interested in the older version og HTC Sync or the Froyo RUU i shall be happy to upload them

Stuck on HBOOT screen :/, some help please :)

UPDATE TO MY PREVIOUS POST. I HAVE INCLUDED MUCH MORE DETAIL AS TO WHAT IS WRONG NOW. ANY HELP PLEASE?:
I am stuck in HBOOT currently, Ship s-off and of course my phone is rooted. What happened was my battery died sometime on the weekend and i tried turning it on to see the HBOOT screen. None of the buttons were responding when being pressed, not even the Vol. down + Power button was working... It randomly after a day decided to turn back on, then the next day i was at college and my battery went dead again and i'm now back at the HBOOT screen. I should have kept a check on it but i wasn't aware it would happen for a second time. Anyway...
I downloaded the PD98IMG.zip file and placed it on my goldcard (i'm on T-mobile) and attempted to re flash my device via the phone and left it for 6 hours or so whilst sleeping last night as it said it was parsing files. It sat on the same screen for the whole of the time. Tried flashing via my mac with instructions from a previous thread followed everything correct apart from putting into fastboot as i couldn't select it and thought it was worth a shot anyway Anyway, I came back with a message in terminal saying 'sending 'radio' (24960 KB)... FAILED (status malformed (1 bytes))'... As you could see it said failed. quite fed up now after looking for solutions since monday and i was hoping someone could come up with a fix :/.
If anyone knows whats going on with my DHD let me know ASAP. I am 95% sure its not bricked as its charging and turning on to HBOOT.
THANKS!!!!!
have you pulled the battery? thats what I normally do
Have you switched it back on without the charger plugged in?
Well i eventually got it working some how just after i posted this, but now it has just gone off again! It seems to be every time my battery goes completely dead. I plug it in, turn it on and Hboot screen pops up and repeats the same process each time, i dont know how to stop it doing this and i generally don't know how to get it back on.
I tried the ideas suggested but i've tried these previously and tried them again but no luck... One thing now though, my volume down button doesn't respond. If there is no fix i guess i'll just have to watch my battery usage but if anyone can suggest anything i can do to get it straight back on that would be great
I actually really need my phone to work right now , it ain't happening though, its been on hboot all day once again, it happens when the battery runs out, i press the power button and doesn't even vibrate or anything of the sort, just sits there and then pops up with the green writing after like 5 seconds saying:
SD Checking...
No image
Loading... (PD98IMG)
No image or wrong image
It says something like that, its only very briefly though. If anyone knows what i mean.... my phones on t-mobile so i made a goldcard so i could flash some roms, would that have anything to do with it?
THANKS!
Hi,
What info do you see in bootloader.
SHIP S-ON/OFF or ENG S-OFF
And have you performed Radio S-OFF?

Yea i have ship s-off, which is shown. I can't press the volume buttons on the h-boot screen to scroll through menu either just to add... DO you actually have any clue what this may be?
Yeah, you've messed up your handset.
Letting your battery run completely flat will damage your battery. It shouldn't however harm your handset.
What I'd recommend doing, as you already have a goldcard, download the 1.32.405.6 PD98IMG.zip put that on your card and boot into bootloader. Follow the prompts and restore your handset.
Oh my battery is fine, i know for future reference to not let it run completely dry! will that mean i won't have the rom, which i previously flashed? Do i put the PD98IMG file on the goldcard or on my normal sd that i am currently using?
There is something wrong with your phone. When your battery dies your handset shouldn't lock you in HBOOT.
Put the PD98IMG.zip on your goldcard. You will lose everything that is not backed up.
Its your call, stay stuck in HBOOT or try to recovery it.
I'll give it a try and let you know the out come, thabks! By the way, after this wht should i do to get miui back up and running, the sme as what i previously did ?
I'll go for the recovery of course haha... Thanks anyway though, i'll give it a shot and see how it goes down . I'll let you know if i have any success!

Im guessing this isn't very common is it? nobody seems to know what to do
wow.. stuck in the same situation... ive rooted and unlocked my partners DHD from telus... just about a week ago, it just suddenly went to the white HBOOT screen. Since then, ive been able to somehow get into clockwork by pulling the battery out, plugging in the usb cable, then inserting the batter, it would somehow take me to the clockwork mods menu screen. I was using an outdated version tho. I would be able to reboot from that menu which would start regularly booting the phone. One interesting thing tho is that the volume - button stopped working around that time.... Ive been pulling my hair out trying to make a goldcard (did it once, but havent been able to do it since i started trying again) so i can reflash the stock telus ruu. For some reason, the goldcard program im using isnt finding the mm2... just the mm1 and mm0... any ideas why? im formating a 8gb class 4 micro sd card... fat32, ive tried 32 and 64kb sector sizes... any suggestions?

I´m in the same situation.I think the PD98IMG file don´t match with previously installed ROM (radio,hboot?)...I come from a MIUI ROM,android 2.3.4 version.
I´m proudly to inform you that I did it!
All the thing was (I think) the ROM manager who flashed a wrong recovery.
How I recovered it?
Without adb drivers,without goldcard,without downgrade.
Simply I downloaded a PD98IMG file,I unzipped it and I changed the recovery.img with a 3.0.2.6 recovery version.Ahh,I deleted the radio.img, too(I don´t know if matter or not). After this,I zipped the files again and I renamed the file to PD98IMG.Copy to sdcard, wait to process PD98IMG and finally the power and volume buttons revives!
Good bye!

[Q] Bootloader issue

I have a serious issue with my DHD since yesterday. The battery was empty and when I got home I put in the charger. Instead of the normal continuous red glow it was a blinking one. I also couldn't start my DHD at all.
I left it for some time and eventually it started up. Unfortunately it kept in the bootloader and none of the options work. I removed the battery for some time and reinserted it. Then the phone "flashed" (yes, the flash on the backside flashed..) and I couldn't start it for some time.
Anyone familiar with this problem? I've googled it for some time but no one seems to have had the exact problem.
At the store they said it was possible it was waterdamage and suggested I looked for an answer here before attempting an expensive repair (no warranty thx to the rooting).
Can anyone help me?
Not quite sure what the problem could be but if you were going to send it back for warranty you might want to try restoring your device to stock using this guide here. I know it says for Australia Vodafone but I'm sure you can find your RUU and use that instead. Might save you quite a bit of money if you were to go with that option.
Hmm, thx for your reply.
I can borrow a DHD full battery from a friend. Hopefully I can connect it to the computer then and do it.
Right..
I am connected to the phone (it says FASTBOOT USB). However I am unable to use the RUU application. What else can I try?
I'm not too sure what your situation is but if you would like to explain a bit on the current status of your phone I'm sure it would help others and myself in helping you. Like is your phone able to go into the bootloader? Does it already have Radio S-OFF/ENG S-OFF? Does it have any Recovery image like ClockworkMod Recovery installed? Have you tried flashing another custom Rom? Which steps have you performed whilst following the restoring guide?
Cheers

Now it will not start at all. I recharged my battery to full using another DHD but my phone won't start anymore.

Bon, I am one step further.
I waited a couple of minutes and started by DHD in bootloader mode (this worked!). Then I rebooted from the bootloader.
HTC screen appeared.. and yes! normal DHD screen appeared as well!
It is working. Charging workes with the full battery.
Now I inserted my old battery and it is flashing red. I am going to wait a couple of minutes and try to start it again. Let's see what happens then.

Good to know that it's working again! Could possibly be an issue with the battery rather than the phone itself, that would save you a lot of trouble I would imagine.
i have experienced that find an original ruu. new sense 3 would be the best. the zip versions are usable then flash through bootloader mail me for more information

Desire Z won't boot, power-cycles, HBOOT/FastBoot doesn't seem to work

Alright, so I'm not the greatest with phone tech, however normal computer tech is my thing so I can sorta get the idea of all this. But anyway...
So for ages I've had apps waiting to install updates, but I never get round to doing it. Today, at work, I was bored & decided to go through & install them. It was all going well, until my phone completely crashed whilst browsing Facebook in Opera. Updates were downloading/installing at this time, though as I say, they were all app updates, there were no OS updates or anything. So, I did what I'd normally do if it crashed or anything, I pulled out the battery & tried to turn it back on. Ever since, I now get to the "HTC Quietly Brilliant" screen, after which the phone cuts off, goes black, resets, & the cycle continuously continues until I remove the battery.
I am able to load it up into HBOOT (I think it's called, by holding down Vol Down + Power), with the following info at the top:

If I click on fastboot, it doesn't seem to work, as whilst it flashes through very quickly it says that it checks the SD & then can't find the images or something:

That's as best as I can tell, as it flashes through very quickly & is hard to catch what it says. Anyway, after that, it just returns to the original menu.
If I click onto Recovery, the phone instantly resets, goes to a white HTC screen, & then to a black screen with the phone & a red exclamation mark within a red triangle. I then press Up + Power & get the following text on my screen:
Android system recovery <3e>
Use volume key to highlight;
click power key to select.
Reboot system now

Click to collapse
If I restart the phone then, it just goes back to how it was. I would apply an update, but I don't know what update to apply or where to get them. And I've not tried to wipe anything as, well, I'll get onto that.
Now I've looked around various threads, & was only able to find one that was close enough to my exact problem & I saw that he was able to get his phone working, with your help, so I'm hoping you could help me too.
Now, the phone has never been rooted, or had any mods or anything of that kind installed. And, to be honest, I'd rather keep it that way.
I did have some backup apps installed on the phone (which, I think backed up to my SD Card), however I've never done a complete backup of the phone onto my computer. Therefore, I'd rather not have to factory reset my phone. Or atleast, I will, if there's a possible way of backing everything up first? Though, I'd much rather root the phone & keep everything, than keep it never-rooted & have to factory reset it; if that is an option?
I'm really at a loss as to what to do, & would hugely appreciate any & all help you can give me. As I say, this isn't my strongest area, but I can kinda work my way around it. I do have a Blackberry 9800 to use as a spare, however, I'm not sure which is worse: a broken HTC or that.
Oh, some other information that might be useful:
-The phone is British, bought from Phones4U (I think) early last summer & is on the Orange/T-Mobile network, with an Orange sim card.
-I saw on that other thread about using RUU, which I nearly went to go do, until I realised it wiped everything off the phone, so I stopped myself there.
-I can never remember which version of Android means what, but I'm pretty sure we've not had any major updates since I got the phone. There may have an update, but don't think I've had any of the major ones. I'd guess it was Android v. 2.2-ish? or 2.3ish?
That's all I can think of, though am happy to answer any questions you need to ask. Again, I'd be hugely greatful for your help. And sorry for the huge essay, however I wanted to try to give as much detail as possible, so you clearly knew the situation as best as I can describe. Thank you.
Edit: Could this work at all for me?
Unfortunately, as the phone is S-ON, you're really stuck with what you can do to the phone.
The symptoms you describe are fairly consistent with a fried emmc, in which case the phone is screwed and there is nothing you can do about it (except warranty return/sell for parts)
The only thing which might work would be an RUU, hoping it isn't a case of a fried emmc.

What does "S-ON" mean? Never heard of that before.
I'm assuming a "emmc" is some chip inside of the phone? What causes that to fry? Is there really nothing that can be done?
Any idea how long the warranty is for these phones? I really don't remember. I'd assume a year, but I dunno, may be longer? I do have insurance, I believe, on the phone but (as with the last time I had to claim, about 2 years ago) I don't want to get lumbered with a ****ty replacement & getting told the Desire Z range had been discontinued. I want my flip-out QWERTY full-size (well, not Blackberry-sized) keyboard, damnit!
Your only options @ this point is to attempt an ruu (rom utility update) you can go to the htc site for the latest. The s-on is security on (this you posted with your hboot info) or if you are lucky a simple factory reset will do. You won't be able to root your phone without a bootable os, so this is out of the question
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
S-ON means the security flag is set to on, it means the emmc (embedded multimedia card/chip I think) has write protection on certain partitons (/system for example) and performs signature checks on everything that tries to get flashed, making sure its legit htc roms/updates.
There seem to have been a batch of dodgy emmc chips manufactured at some point, and they have a high chance of breaking, so that nothing can be written to it. No way to predict if/when it will break, but you can see (if you have a booting rom/recovery and shell access) whether your chip is more prone to breaking or not.
Standard manufacturers warranty should be about a year, though you can see if local consumer rights gaurantees extends that any? otherwise hope for the best with insurance.

Alright so there's a bit of an update, albeit not positive. My phone now just sticks on the initial white screen with "htc" on it. Not even "quietly brilliant" appears. Doesn't reset anymore, just stays on until I remove the battery. Can still get to the HBOOT screen though.
Thanks for all the responses/help guys, I knew this would be the place to come to, as you've helped me alot in the past when I had my XDA Serra (HTC Touch Pro). I guess now there's not a lot really I can do? One person suggested trying the RUU, I guess I could try that? Failing that I'll have to contact HTC/phone carrier to see what they have to say about the matter. Is it certain then that there's nothing else that could potentially be done?

[Q] HTC One X keeps restarting after a couple of seconds on lock screen

Hi Guys,
I turned my One X off on Saturday morning and put it in the sock drawer. Turned it back on this morning and it wont go past the lock screen before restarting. I can set it in to recovery mode no problem, just can't get any further than lockscreen.
It's Vodafone locked, running stock Voda rom, locked Boootloader. Haven't messed around with this one! Any way to get this working without losing all the content on it? It's all backed up to the cloud except my movies and music and I don't want to lose them!
If not, how can I get it working again?
Many thanks,
Dan

its a common fault for any device that runs off a battery, if there is only a little charge it will start up and get so far then switch off again. try and charge it, if it isn't the problem then at least that is ruled out. but really, if all you did was put it in a drawer there can't be much else wrong with it, unless the the sock monster jumped up and down on it then ran it under the tap when you wern't looking
Ahh, it wasn't turning off, it was continuously rebooting. Its been on charge for quite a while now and its still doing the same.

If it wont stay off try this :- boot into bootloader then press power button until you see fastboot usb screen then use volume keys to move down to "power down".
Once it is off you need to plug it into a wall charger, not pc, and leave it for at least Two hours, preferably Three or Four hours. if it wont stay off just leave it looping and plugged into the wall charger
No no, the first issue wasn't that it wouldn't turn on due to low battery, it was that it continuously rebooted. Its off and charging now, has been for a good 4 hours. Still not staying on when it gets to lock screen, just continuously rebooting!

You have two option unlock bootlader and flash custom recovery and after this you can mount the sd card from the custom recovery and backup your sd card. After this flash again stock recovery and do factory reset or try from stock recovery factory reset and cross finger don't lose any information on sd card! For stock when you are in bootlader choice RECOVERY and when you are in stock recovery push volume up + power button. That is the way!!!

Novice and can't read either. your problem is not unique and can be found in many threads if you search. in your picture there is a line in red "factory reset" use the volume key to move down to it then press the power button to start the process, then plug the phone in to the wall like I told you earlier and leave it for hours

What program do you need this is just factory reset? Program for what do you need explain me like I am an IDIOT.
Just try it with FACTORY RESET! You dont need any program for this!
you are correct in saying I didn't give that advice, but @Thant did, which is why I said you couldn't read. This is a developers site, by developers for developers, you are a guest, nobody is under any obligation to help you but they do because they are nice but when it comes to trying to help someone who is not taking a blind bit of notice it gets a little annoying. You have all of the answers you need in the previous posts, pay attention to them and look at the picture that YOU provided. in red it says factory reset, use it.
And judging by the state of the screen I wouldn't be surprised if it is a hardware fault.
Thanks for your advice guys. I now have a one x which is working but all the data has been wiped.
I'm sure you two would have started out as novices. The way you spoke to me was unnecessary.

Thanks for your advice guys. I now have a one x which is working but all the data has been wiped.
I'm sure you two would have started out as novices. The way you spoke to me was unnecessary.

you try repeating yourself about 20 times a day and see if you get annoyed. there is a search button for a reason, all the information you needed was already there, and even when we repeated it you still took no notice so we think it was necessary. thats the end of it!!
Help
Please, I beg the experts for help!
I read all this stuff but I can´t solve my problem. I started used my HTC One X yesterday (it´s a brand new one). After installing some programs from Google Play, the system asked me if I want to make an upgrade from Android (I don´t remember wich version). I agreed with it, the system made a huge download and restarted the equipment. After this, the cell phone keeps in a loop, it starts in the white inicial frame (HTC - quietly brilliant) and boot, all day long...
I tried to make a reboot, factory reset, all the things in the root menu (power + vol down), but the problem remains.
My cell phone´s menu show these informations:
*** LOCKED ***
ENDEAVORU XE SHIP S-OFF RL
CID-11111111
HBOOT-1.12.0000
CPLD-None
MICROP-None
RADIO-2.1204.135.20
eMMC-bootmode: disabled
CPU-bootmode: disabled
HW Secure boot: disabled
MODEM PATH: OFF

Thant, thanks a lot! :good:
If you cold help me a little bit, I really really thank you. I´m a beginner and I´m not used to do these kind of things. Could you please show me where I can find instructions, for beginners, teaching how to unlock bootloader and flash stock? And where I can found these updates and the instructions to do these too?
Sorry to bother you with these easy steps...

Similar problem!!
Hi,
I bought my One X 1 yr ago. Everything was fine until i updated to sense 5. After about a 3-4 weeks after the update my One X started to continuously reboot. This was the first time. The looping lasted for about 5 min and i felt relieved. After about a month later, same thing repeated and it lasted for abt 2 hrs. Yesterday again it started crazily restarting and it has not stopped until the battery ran out. When i plug in the charger, it again goes to restarting. It is not stopping at all. Also when it restarts it lasts only for 2 secs and i dont get the oppurtunity to simulate battery removal or reset the phone. I'm fed up. !!!PLZ HELP!!!
