Htc One m8 or oneplus One ? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, i own an htc One m8 from verizon. One guy offered me an One plus One with a case, the earphone and some extra things.. Should i trade or keep ? Is the oneplus One better than the m8?
Thanks.

Definitely keep the M8.
I have been using the Oneplus since July and it's not as great as it sound. It's a good phone with all the good specs and price, but the touchscreen problem is horrible. And customer service is just as bad. They made a new thread about the issue, but where is the solution? I bought a M8 recently and it feels like it's from another world. Things I've noticed between the two are: touchscreen is MUCH more responsive., camera has faster focus and takes faster pics, Whatsapp voice message sounds like you are underwater in OPO, audio is way better with M8. I'm a fan of vanilla rom, but I actually really like sense after using it. I would suggest you test out the OPO and check for touchscreen issue if you're planning to get it

Go with OnePlus One!
Definitely BEST budget phone in the market( for now)
And Cyanogen is plus point. Compared to m8 the screen size is 5.5' and build quality, viewing angles are great!3Gb ram and Battery backup is excellent .Camera Quality is above average!
Go with OnePlus One Dude.Hurry

It's up to you. I would keep the M8 as it is a lot more premium looking phone with very good build quality and of course it is worth more!

HTC One X owners, do you recommend the purchase?

Hello there.
I've waited few months to retire my old HTC Desire and purchase a new device, for few weeks ago I've been waiting the release of the HTC one X but now I've been reading some topics about issues and problems that the owners are suffering...
So here is my question to the One X owners, would you recommend the device to your best friend?
Thanks

Read back to the comments on DHD forums when that came out. Same with the Sensation. They both had teething issues for some users, and I don't regret getting either. There will always be people with problems, and they will be the most vocal.

OI! Thats my phone, get yourself something else!!!
I recommend iPhones to most people only because most people I know just want something easy to use. Not that Android is easy, but Apple is easier and they can just take it into an Apple Store if something doesn't work. The support system is much better.
HOWEVER, the One X is a much better phone than anything else on the market!
short answer: yes
long answer: alot of yes
The choice is yours I've gone from dhd to the one x don't think I would look back either
Screen crisp clear
Build fantastic
Use smooth and quick
Really light weight
Yes there is reports of minor issues on some of them but its nothing major and will be fixed the only I have is battery life mine dies faster that my gf she got 18 hours out of first charge the difference is I'm a heavy user she isn't
The rest of reported issues I've not had

I guess U should. Since U are coming from desire.
But for me, the reason I got one was initially because of the "big" screen. Am using a titan currently and absolutely love the screen minus the lower pixel count. When I got One x, I was quite disappointed actually. I dun quite like the material used and the "bigger" screen. Its the screen ratio that actually turned me off.. The screen is taller but not really much wider than my trusty hd2. So, the "bigger screen is not what I had expected. Speed wise, blazing fast compared to my hd2. But, do I really need blazing? I guess not.. I can bare with a few millisec of waiting time. So, I am kinda disappointed tbh. IMHO.
Anyone had THE argument yet?
oops
Yes, but wait for the battery saving update coming and for some cases in the shops. My camera feels way to exposed to scratches so have ordered a clear back case which is 10 days away. Screen is amazing compared it to s2 and iPhone 4s and they don't even come close.
I came from HTC desire.

Don't you dare buying it! It's mine, my precious <3.
#Smeagol off
I'd recommend it, but if you are the kind of user who wants a flawless experience from the start = wait 2 weeks so all the bugs are updated.
My first few hours coming from a DHD I was sceptical because I was so used to the DHD and the Virtuous affinity ROM is amazingly smooth.
After 1 day I am completely loving the one x.
It's holding battery much better than my DHD with the same accounts syncing too.
The camera and screen are actually stunning, not just a turn of phrase. I was jaw dropped streaming HD and filming 1080p.
I actually prefer using my one x with headphones for media than my laptop and TV put together now
I recommend it.

Honestly, no. Not yet.
I would wait to see what HTC do to address the awful battery life and overheating before buying.
If the reviews would have been more realistic, I would have been in a better position to judge.
Feel let down by the main reviewers, but then they did have an update that us mere peasants aren't allowed. Sketchy move from HTC if you ask me, the phone we get is not what was reviewed. Foul.

I can't help wondering why they chose to release an update that fixes a lot ONLY to the press... It makes no sense to me?

Clearly they weren't sure about it's stability/hadn't bug-tested it enough to release to all of their customers.
Should be out soon though

Because they needed to get it to them before the reviews were published, so that they'd reflect what HTC intended the user experience to be like before the handset was released to the public later that week.
Sensible though that strategy is, it sort of comes undone when you don't push that update to the retail handsets in time for them going on general sale. I imagine it was because the 1.27 update was a quick hack to fix the major outstanding issues that would be likely to turn up in reviews, whereas 1.28 would need to be fully tested before being delivered (because having effectively supplied a handset with pre-release software there'd be hell on if the first update didn't work perfectly), but it could still have been handled better.
YESS u should..but to each his own...
For the screen size remarks....
I`m coming from the DHD and the Sensation XE.
And i`m loving the new bigger screen.
The colors,..The sharpness it`s just a marvel
But again what works for one doesn`t have to work for all.
About the speed.....
Just lightning
CF Benchmark
23839, 6010 , 13050
Antutu
11524
Monjori
38 FPS
Nenamark 2
48 FPS
So the CPU goes like a bat out of hell
The GPU at the moment is the same as my Sensation XE ( adreno 220 @ 320Mhz )
Batterylife looks to be OK.
But when u stress it it takes a lot of juice.
The companion core works perfectly cause the standyby hours are super

One X vs GS3?

Hi at all! some day ago i broke my HD2 so i search for a new smartphone! my choise is on one X and Gs3 I know that for now the one X with stock rom have a worse ottimization (like with animated wallpaper). so I ask you what's the best phone in this area,if one have the sotck rom or some other from XDA:
battery
performance
with the new rom form XDA one X is better that GS3 or GS3 continue at be the best phone for performance and battery?
I had a look at a S3 the other in day in store and I was quite impressed but at the same time not disappointed with my choice of the HOX.
I do like the sense launcher and some time soon I am going to flash a custom rom to speed things along but from what I've read and seen both phones are nearly identical performance wise.
If you are into flashing custom roms and things I would go with the S3 as they have already released the source code for it while where stuck over here trying to get S-off
thanks so with the new rom you have noted some improvement in the battery life? beacause for now this is the real difference between one X e SG3 for me i Have fear that the one X have a small battery
From a pure hardware/features standpoint, the GS3 is a beast.
Personally, I like the way the HOX looks/feels, though and I'm a sucker for the contact integration of the social networks. Touchwiz has a long way to go before it's that refined.
but for the daily use the one X have some lag with the custom rom? I see in a lot of review a bug with animated wallpaper and the stock browser is terrible with flash respect the one s and Gs3 :/
so with the new updates or custom rom this problem are solved?
The HOX is a better phone but the GS is a better made phone, I love the HOX and the curved look, and sense is awesome, I must have installed all other launchers and ended up back with sense.
The GS is a little too..... simple, or presice, the HOX is a Tegra 3 Daddy, dont worr about the battery as my model and if you buy one yours will be fine and last 2 days easy. Its eraly SN versions having issues not new ones.

sorry, but I don't understend the phrase "The HOX is a better phone but the GS is a better made phone". I want said that SG3 is better of HOx?
I'm worry about battery and lag, beacause in a lot of review HOX have some lag and a lot of people said that is not optimized

sorry, but this is a very big forum,so here I can have a lor of opinion
I saw the video. My conclusion is that with the new update and custom rom in daily use the difference between GS3 and HOX in nearly zero, right?
But I don't understand how much is big the difference in the game. with one X there is some game that go slow?like Mass effect or some other new games?
Go for the S3, OneX is for **** ....

HOX: better screen, camera & design.
SGS3: unlocked bootloader, removable battery, sdcard slot.
If you can't make a decision from that simple summary then it doesn't matter, you'd be happy with either.

I just got my one x a few hours ago and I think it is awesome. I'm definitely buying the pebble blue galaxy s 3 though. Just be happy with your purchase. Both great in their own way.

I dont like the samsung TouchWiz interface. HTC Sense is way better in my opinion.
I had HTC Inc S, then got the SGS2, wasnt really happy with it, mainly the interface, so got the ONE X and love it.
Its fast and battery lasts well, I get 2 days of average use before recharge. Allthough when I use it as a Wifi hotspot for 6 hours will only last me 1 day.
in my honest opinion
I have my HOX now for the past month and I am satisfied...
Just satisfied as it delivers where it should as in Graphics, Performance, UI, Integration and sleekness, however the only major downfall I would say of the HOX is the Battery and not having a removable SD card.
Battery life too short and not being able to expand the memory is a downfall
So with only those 2 aspects in mind I would change to a GS3
Otherwise I am happy with my HOX

Quite a few have asked this on here lately...
Basically, if I were in your shoes I'd just go for it and get the G3! The phone is just awesome.
Development is not really happening just yet due to the locked bootloader on mostly all variants except TMobile. Our kicka$$ devs have eluded to the fact that they WILL be able to unlock or exploit the bootloader, it's just a matter of time.
I came from an S4 that had a very active Dev scene with many Roms and a few custom kernels to choose from, and even though currently I don't have those things with the G3..... I'm still super happy with this phone.

Same here... If I were you, I would go for it...
My choices before buying this phone were Z2, M8, and Find7... but G3 came out and that's it... =)

Why are you getting rid of the M8? How's the battery life?
The only thing I think that would be better is the G3 with Cat 6 And the Snap 805 lol no idea if Verizon will offer that though
- Tapatalked from the G3
I swapped my M8 for the G3 and I have not looked back, dont worry; they are both great phones. Just felt the need to move on
I made that switch and bought a G3 as my daily user. However, I actually think the M8 is an "overall" better phone. I got the G3 because I do take quite a lot of photos when I travel and the resolution just isn't good enough...the quality of the photos of the M8 are decent but the G3 is definitely better in good light. If photo quality and size isn't that important to you, I personally would NOT make the change. Even though I have the 805 chip Korean variant of the G3, I can say 100% the M8 is smoother and quicker in every aspect. The G3 is no slouch, but the M8 is awesome...smoothest Android phone out there in my opinion.
I'm not saying the G3 is a bad phone...I love it and I'm using it over my M8, but the only reason is because of the camera. just make sure there's a good reason for you to want to change. Good luck on your decision and let us know if you do switch what you think of the G3!

Same as me.
Having had both, I'd much prefer the G3 over the M8 for screen size and camera quality as those are important to me - but you should know that you'll have to put up with a slight compromise in terms of performance/smoothness and battery life.
That's what my experience has been, anyway. YMMV.

I certainly liked the M8, very much so in fact. But I loved the look of the G3 and the screen. Used both over a couple of weeks and decided to stick with the G3.
I think it all came down to the look and feel of the device. The M8 is beautiful, quality built and has all the features.. I just felt it was maybe missing something. So jumped to the G3
Like a few others on here, I have both phones. I love the M8. It's the most fluid phone I've ever experienced, and there are so many modification options out there. The G3 is laggy, and doesn't seem like much progress has been made with the developer community so far. All that being said, I can't bring myself to stop using my G3. If anything, try it out for a week and see how you like it.
I have both G3 & M8, they are both great phones & both have the + & - points.
You'll be happy whichever you choose.
Biggest +'s for each phone for me -
M8 - Speakers, they are very good.
G3 - Wireless Charging, Oh how pleasant it is to wireless charge. No faffing about with cables :good::good::good:
Enjoy whichever you use
You guys with both an M8 an G3 which do you like better.... Sense or LG's somewhat close to stock Android??
Coming from Sammy and Moto phones they're both pretty cool IMO. My girls One Max is very cool and after playing with that I'm sure having an HTC phone as a DD wouldn't be bad at all...

i did the same move. the m8 was the smoothest phone i ever had but the lack of screen for such a big phone was such a waste to me. both phones are awesome though. honestly if the m8 had a back speaker with a bigger screen it would have been a perfect phone for me.5.5 inch screen is perfect

Mind sharing your viper settings?

Is the M8 still worth it ?

Hey,
I have been struggling for a few months trying to pick my next phone, I've been using an ancient GS2 for at least 3 years now...
I was gonna go with the 6P but the SD810 is worrying me... And the M9 has that thing as well...
The M8 looks like a good choice.. I just have a few questions :
1- How is the dev community ?
- I usually stick with phones for at least 2 years, and I always like running the latest version of Android...
2- are AOSP ROMs stable ?
Coming from an Exynos device, it had countless issues with AOSP roms,... Lot's of stuff didn't work properly on AOSP.. Is it the same case here or everything is stable enough...
3- Is there any known hardware defective that are known about the phone.. Just to be careful when purchasing
4- How is the battery ? SOT ?
And finally, do you recommend to buy it, or there's better choices out there ?
Cheers..

1. Great dev community(much options), about official software updates, 2 yrs of htc's commitment is ending in March 2016.
2. Most are stable, some MM are stil WIP
3. No hardware issues(like it was on One m7 with camera)
4. Depends on kernel and rom(with doze, battery drain is like 1-3% per night) i get ussualy 5hrs of sot, with tweaks and low brighteness i can get ~7hrs of sot
If you can find some good deal, go for it, great build/sound and fast UI. Camera is meh, but with proper angle and close shots, it's good enough.

I don't really care about official support... I hate Android OEM skins... The first thing I do when I get a new device is usually installing an AOSP based ROM...
Currently, I can get one for around 340$.. That's from a local store..
They are on eBay for 260$~
But I'm from Egypt... So there's shipping and tax and stuff which gonna ramp the price to around 340 as well...
I'll probably go ahead and buy it from the local store...
___
Concerning defective units... Were there any parts that were reported defective on units before... I have people reporting not working mics...
___
and is there multiple models of the phone or is it just one ?
Its still worth it and the device has a official gpe (Google play edition) rom.

Oh, there are plenty units out there...USA carriers,DEV Edition, ASIA WWE, WWE international... try to get wwe(unlocked version), btw you can do S-OFF($25) and RUU to whatever you want.
Just a quick viewpoint from me. I hate my M8. For the first 6 months it was great, then I had the camera lens issue (which was easily rectified with metal Polish but shouldn't have been a problem in the first place). Then my vibrate motor packed in. Then it came back to life a couple of weeks later but it folded again and has been dead for the past 4 months. I get random freezes on various roms and the battery gets so hot I can't hold my phone sometimes. Maybe I got a lemon (my wife got an M8 the same time as me, also had the camera lens issue bit nothing else) but it's really hurt my confidence in HTC. I've had HTC handsets almost exclusively for the past 11 years, and given how weak I view the A9 (or X9) I will be abandoning HTC thanks to how poor the M8 has been for me.

Hmm, Interesting.... Yea, HTC currently is in a really bad position, the A9 & X9 are certainly a joke... But I can't really find a good phone with an active dev community with the same price range...

S-off is like 100% unlock, you can flash firmwares, sound mods(with adsp) etc, RUU: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1656721

Sure, its s off-able
S-On(security on), S-OFF(seurity off)
Yes, if its new, its S-ON, only dev edition comes with S-Off.

Okay, Thanks very much for your help...
I'll give myself a few days of more research.. but I'm probably going to get it... can't really find another alternative for the same price with an active dev community ..
Thanks again,
Cheers..
and oh, MERRY CHRISTMAS...

Yeah that's the bit that sucks the most, after all its the original HTC built XDA that bought this site to light many years ago. That's why I'm leaning closest to the Nexus 6P at the moment as a possible next phone as it doesn't need too much hacking to be what I want it to be. But I'm not 100% happy with the 6P either, but I don't want to wait another year to see if HTC can pull something decent out of their hat. M8 seriously ruined it for me

I really wanted to get the 6P but here's why I didn't..
1- SD810.... Just NO !!
2- A lot... I meant really A lot of defective units.. especially with the screen.. A lot of units are coming with irregular colored screens...
3- Price... yea, surely it's currently priced at 500$... but i'm afraid to use forwarding service to ship it to my country here coz of the huge amount of defective units.. and local retailers here selling it for 650$.. NO THANKS... and I can see you're from the UK, you're getting ripped off.. it's roughly about 700$ for the 6P in the UK !!

I switched from the HTC One M7 to the M8 - 2 months ago for the same price of 350$. Got it off Ebay. It was an imported T-mobile version from U.S unlocked, so there is no warranty. If you're getting it at the local store with warranty I'd suggest picking it.
Good stuff I've noticed:
The phones battery is a quite a difference from the M7. The battery is slightly larger and the processor is more efficient. 2 months later with Skydragons Sense Rom with Marshmallow, the battery life is still great.
The M7 gave 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours of On screen time (If I was not gaming much) , while this phone goes beyond 3.5 hours. It lasts over a day with moderate use and gaming.
The phone doesn't heat up crazy like the M7 did. Expect it to get warm, it's metal build.
The speakers are much louder than the M7. Along with this factor and the amazing battery life I was convinced that the phone was worth upgrading to.
The camera is decent and rather nice in low light conditions. However if camera is really important to you I'd suggest avoiding this phone.
HTC Sense is way better than stock android. The launcher itself is so handy. Music player is the best I've used, simple and effective.
The phone feels exotic in the hand, super premium.
Sound output without the equalizer(Boomsound) is hands down one of the best you will get.
Huge development community.
Has SD card support which the previous phone didn't have.
Cons:
Boomsound on earphones and headphones is really atrocious. The Beats Audio which was on the M7 was waaaayyy better! If you get this phone, just turn off boomsound on headphones.
The phone is curvy and hence becomes super slippery, just be careful handing the device, it's prone to slipping out of your hand. Worth mentioning this phone is heavy.
Dual Camera at the back is gimmicky.
Some of the OEM's software is poorly implemented and of late HTC has been messing some of them up. Example: Blinkfeed with ads and recommendations, HTC TV and Notes.
Has on screen buttons instead of the HTC M7's capacitve. And on screen buttons are rubbish.
The speaker grilles trap dirt easier than the previous model, you can however use a tooth brush or needle to clean them.
The power button is on top and a pain to reach. Doesn't help that the phone is taller than the M7 .
The top camera in the back can get damaged due to poor protection as compared to the main camera. You can still click photos, but can't use the dual camera effects. Also you will keep getting an error message "Dual camera is blocked..."
Defective Models: Yes there are models which ship with the dual camera damaged. If you get an opportunity to test out the phone first, check the camera. If you get the dual camera is blocked - just request if he can drop the price for you further. You will still be able to use the main camera.
This phone is not perfect and is HTC's Rough Diamond. With the processor, sound quality and dev support, I'd recommend it.

Thanks for that detailed comment...
I'm coming from the phone that was barely able to shot decent 720p videos
literally anything would be an upgrade for me... the M8 is great compared to its price...
and the dual camera is a joke, i know that.. I'll probably be running AOSP roms which I don't think utilize it anyway...

You might want to try a GPE Rom like this instead of an AOSP one.

That looks great... Can't wait to get my hands on the phone... I'm gonna be buying it asap..

A little update

What's up guys. I'm using my LG G4 for a hard year now. I'm on RR ROM with custom kernel, but i think that the end is near for my phone. The question is, HTC 10's worth all the money? I had an One S 3 years ago and it was a beast. Soo, should I buy it? Thanks in advance
I've come from a LG g3, quite a difference and takes some getting used to. Feels too small to start with, no wireless charging/removable battery, flashing is cumbersome, but... wicked quality, fast, sound quite good, battery life seems good, camera very good (and in low light) I'm unlocked, not rooted yet , looking forward to custom kernels and watching this move from fast to lightning
