Well.. They Finally Announced the Apple Watch... - Moto 360

And they range in price from $350 to $10,000+.
The stainless steel version will cost from $500-$1100 depending on materials.
Personally, I think they need to be checked for a head injury. Because no one, except a complete fool who needs to be separated from their money, will pay that much for a device with a 2 year lifespan.
$8000 for a Breitling, sure, I'll have it on my wrist every few days until I die. $1000 for a smartwatch that will WE KNOW will have outdated hardware in 2-3 years and can't be ungraded due to the march of technology... NOPE.
What are your thoughts on this?

waiting on the 360 v2

It looks like Apple built a great first gen smart watch. Of course being a year + behind the competition to release one it should be pretty decent.
I think the Motorola charging dock is much nicer then a magnetic button though.
Also the Motorola round display rocks over a square display.
And Apple pricing is nuts...
I'm looking forward to a Moto 720 that is half the thickness of the 360, has a 300 DPI or better OLED display and a much more efficient processor.

People still balk at the cost of the Moto 360, let alone anything higher.
Apple people will still buy it, after selling kidneys and other non-important organs on the market.

watching a little of the Apple video replay... a few things apple watch does that I wish Android Wear does...
Mark emails read/unread/flag/delete (AW does allow you to archive, but unless I missed it, there is no way to mark them read, flag or delete)
answer calling using mic and speaker on watch.. (AW allows you to answer/ignore call, but you need to use speaker/mic on your phone or a BT headset connected to the phone)
Glances.. to swipe easily between info like weather, music controls, heart beat (android wear uses Google Now, but if you dismiss a card, its not there... sure there might tbe 3rd party apps to do this, but they are not too obvious)
workout app showing calories, distance, time, etc. (fit isn't that great, especially on the android wear watch itself)
And it does look like the Apple Watch is a little more polished than android wear.
While they claim "All day battery life" (which equals 18 hours), with all those apps on there, animations, etc.. I'm not sure what it will get under real world use.
I do like the hotel room key (reminds me of Disney Magic bands for room keys at their resorts), yet I'm not so sure about the boarding pass on the watch for airline security though.
Still, even with the $349 up to $10K... I think Apple will sell a bunch of them. Its Apple. Their marketing is top notch. And their fans are crazy about anything they produce. Not to mention there isn't much choice for a smart watch to go with iOS.

not sure how u are missing the delete option. i delete most emails i don't care for immediately on the watch. as for the rest i don't think that is possible yet. but right now i am happy to simply keep a cleaner email box as i delete dumb emails as they come in.

iWatch will sell because... Apple
Biggest reason the Apple watch will outsell all AW watches: They are the only option.
Apple's only real competitor in the wearable market right now is Pebble, as they are the only watch currently really compatible with IOS. After that, it's really just math. With so many companies trying to win the Android wearable market, each slice of the pie gets smaller and smaller with each new watch. With Apple, they don't have to share their pie with anybody. The real comparison is going to end up being sales of the Apple watch vs. Android Wear. There is no hope for Samsung or Motorola to even come close to the numbers Apple will put up, simply because there's too much competition.
As for deleting vs. archiving your gmail from your watch, you have to set your default option in Gmail on your phone. Check your settings and it will have defaulted to Archive, but you can change it to delete. As of right now, I don't know of a way to "mark read" but I wish there was. Swiping will at least clear the notification from your notification bar.

I know another "watch" is getting all the attention (only because it has a "fruit" on it). However, do not forget the most beautiful watch out already available. And yes, there is a good probability future updates will allow you to use that iPhone with it.

That i knew..
But there are a lot of emails I get which are not junk, and that I keep. So having them flagged READ in gmail after reading on my Moto 360 would be a big plus.

Default action is archive. As @WestPhotog pointed out, it can be changed to delete via the Gmail app on the phone.

A friend of my said about my moto 360 that he finds it crazy to pay 250 bucks for a smartwatch. Today I heard him say he wants a apple watch and I comfronted him and he ignored it He started talking that he wants the sport model for sporting.. I imedattly said don't this is'nt made for sport buy a cheaper sport band that will work with heart rate and everything. And isn't just a gimmic Hope that he will listen or atleast doesn't buys it for sport.. But for normal use.
But I think the apple whatch is pretty cool. And it has some great options. So I hope google will feel the heat from apple and starts a smartwatch war. And we will see a lot of inprovemend on our moto 360

Let the sheep buy their icrap watches, like any other icrap product the herd of sheep zombies will stand in line.

Then theres always this
for some reason I cant link tonight lol
http://www.geek.com/apple/apple-watch-battery-can-die-in-just-3-hours-1617504/

this is just the kind of fanaticism that Apple somehow builds... from another, non-Apple, forum:
"And this is exactly why I think all those people who think Apple is competing with Android Wear and Pebble are off their rockers. Based on build quality alone, this product is on an entirely different planet from any existing smartwatch."

That the strength of apple, some people will buy anything that they sell. It's like a religion.

The Apple watch is expensive so now you see celebrities and tv hosts wearing it, but IMO the rounded square just looks too fat and clunky.
OG moto 360 still has the most elegant look!

Looks nice. But kinda odd (and not sure I like it) to have a speaker slide out like that.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/24/exclusive-htcs-windows-phone-7-equipped-t8788-breaks-cover-for/
Yep looks good. Hope all the new HTC Codename phones fall under similar looks/features.
A comment in the engadget forum has 1 guy say he personally knows the phone slides both ways. Hmm.
If it does I Just hope its a nice mechanical/spring slide action that keeps the phone solid when your not sliding it around.
Overall though it would be a bit bigger version of my TP2 which I love.
I like the front facing speaker. Lately I've been playing more Scumm games (Broken Sword 2 atm) on my phone, and sometimes when there's alot of ambient noise, I have to flip my phone around to really hear what's being said without listening intently or put my headphones on. So this would actually be good for gaming, if it slid out the rest of the way to show a game pad I'll be breaking contract .
I'm not too excited about the slide-out speaker feature. As long as a phone has a 3.5mm jack and a decently loud speaker phone, I'm happy. I wouldn't want to go too crazy over builtin speakers.
say hate to state the obvious but this is implementation of the new htc slider mechanism htc patented recently
not bad
I say slide it out the other way to reveal a full qwerty and this thing would be a beast. But sadly it's just a speaker.
This phone DOES NOT slide both ways... for a fact. It slides only that way (as shown in the picture) and only that far... It also has a kickstand that comes out so that when you stand the phone up the speaker is at the top.
All metal (black metal) very heavy and solid feeling... Also, screen size looked to be about 4-4.1"
Saw it/played with it on Sunday night
lets hope for all hd2 owners that this phone has the same hardware specs as the hd2 (easier to port wp7 on hd2 )
and let us all non hd2 owners hope it has a dual core and loads of ram/rom usb3 ,64GB build in ssd .

I believe MS mandated that only 6 custom vendor apps can be sent out with the phone, and anything they put on has to be uninstallable.

Now I wish MS would do things to stop being as annoying too.
Btw, I looked over the internet. I couldn't find it. Would you happen to have the link or an official statement from MS stating that?
Meh, to hell with extra bulk from speaker I don't use for anything but ringing.
Never thought I'd say this, but my next phone will most probably not be from HTC. This is such a useless gimmick.

They can add apps/hubs.
I know many will disagree with this but we have to go off the basis that the built-in functions of WP7 are much better than anything an OEM could do. We shouldn't want/allow them to change it just for the sake of differentiation. It's my impression (not having used any of them for any length of time) that this is true on Android for all with the possible exception of HTC Sense; even then many would say the stock Android UI is just fine. HTC Sense, espeically for WinMo, is horribly written. I think it's wise for us to let the software company do the software and the hardware company do the hardware.
So even though they can't modify for the sake of modifying, there's a good bit of opportunity for them to add on. HTC will be doing some sort of 'Sense' for WP7 which will (just guessing) probably be in the form of a hub with several apps such as weather, stocks, footprints, etc. Carriers will have branding opportunities as well (Telstra showed off theirs recently).
But this all still ignoring the question of do users really care? I have never once seen the home screen addons become a deciding factor in what phone a user purchases (both in 'real life' and on a non-phone forum where phones often come up that I'm on). It's always just:
1. carrier
2. hardware features (size, keyboard, screen being the main ones)
3. Price
It really seems like wasted money on the part of the OEMs.

for a pop out speaker, I would have high expectations for the sound on that. It better be very impressive and with plenty of bass.....

well to tell you the truth, this isn't the first time that we are seeing the device with speaker slideout. For instance, Samsung mp3 players had this. they were k5 and s5. It wasn't a really hit for somereason but yea on the phone, this is the first time ever. But i do like the formfactor but i am not sure about sliding speaker. I dont listen to musics with my phone, so it won't be necessary for me. Also i would like to see how the battery performs when the slide is out to the side. hmmm... it should be great for speaker call and gps sysem!

Market place apps suck?

Is it just me or are the apps in the WP7 market place really ****ty?
I am still trying to figure out whether to go Android or WP7 so i started checking out the market place. Well, my 1st impression is that there is nothing worth it, and when there is they are plain simple without any worth functionality or add-on.
I agree and posted similar on another thread. Really hope they get better very soon
What?
First of all, the market isn't open to the (general) public yet - there's well over 1,000 apps going through the curation process that aren't actually posted yet.
Of what's there right now, you have tons of desirable applications present such as Slacker Radio, IMDB, Shazam, Foursquare, Twitter, etc.
Stop hunting for things to complain about.
What do you mean not open to the public?
Just open your Zune software and you can easily browse the 1000+ apps that are there. Nothing comes even close to the apps that are available for my iPod touch for example.

Start naming apps.
When you've actually TRIED the applications let us know. Screenshots and text descriptions do not an application make. Unless your idevice runs WP7 software already then of course you are correct.
The Harvest is up on marketplace now and that looks sweet.
I thinly before just going hay arnt the apps crap you should look at Android marker and itunes and ask yourself what here is any better that wp7 doesn't have or will have within a very small amount of time. I mean its easy to just go oh there so much rubbish but really how many sound bored fart machines and fake beers do you wan?
I just did a quick counted and there are 532 Apps. Not sure what happed on Zune it is only showing 173 now??
More then I expected considering the phone is not launched yet.
Netflix is up, sprint needs to hurry with a wp7 device the epic is pissing my off
I love how quantity = quality
Well, considering Microsoft said that it will LAUNCH with a thousand + apps already in the market. So now we have to know the policies and regulations one's app must meet to get into the market, this is usually how you can tell if the majority of the apps are garbage, or not... Just like if you can tell, the Facebook app on iPhone is better than the Facebook app on Android. The games on iPhone look and feel nicer, and they tend to fail less often. The stricter the rules are, the more polished they come out, at least that is how I look at it.
I'm just glad that companies like netflix, twitter, ebay etc have official apps for WP7. Having those companies back WP7 is a big deal even if Microsoft had to throw some money their way to do it.

were you honestly expecting WP7 to have 200,000 apps on it's release? And how can you compare a brand new, unlaunched platform to iOS, which has been in dev hands for years?
There are applications still in development, don't criticize until the marketplace catches steam. Also theres applications that Android and Iphone can only dream of such as Cocktail Flow, just look to see.

ok , let us be concrete and give examples.
There are no RSS applications that are worth downloading.RSS application do not even Sync with Google reader. They do not have connectivity with Facebook, ReadItLater, Digg it, etc.....
Even the Shazam app looks a dwarfed version of the one available on the iPhone.
Furthermore everything (text, icons, gfx) all look huge on the screen in all applications. Sacrificing visual granularity in order to claim a faster experience is yet another deceiving wicked way of Microsoft claims.
Take a look at the Sudoku apps, it looks better in a newspaper and a pen. Why can't they check what Sudoku on iPhone looks like and try to beat that or at least copy it.
Come on guys, I can keep on and on with examples. I wouldn't launch a new product with such apps, especially when I claim a 500million dollar marketing campaign. That would be a fiasco just like the KIN before it.
At Christmas time, I will have to decide on either WP7 or Android (I am an Apple hater), so far Android wins on every point.

The new Sony watch: SmartWatch!

It is called, simply, Sony SmartWatch (slightly unfortunate tagline: "Touch your world"), runs $149, and is supposed to come out in March. Here, I'll let it speak for itself for a moment.
Funnily enough, it lacks the one feature we most consistently associate with a watch—indeed, a feature we might consider indispensable: the continuous display of the time.
But in order to preserve battery life, the Sony SmartWatch only tells you the time when you "ask" it, by tapping once on the screen.
Tapping again calls up a range of apps on this Android-compatible device.
You can check your e-mail, texts, the weather, Facebook, Twitter. When a call comes in on your phone, you can reject or accept it via the watch (quite handy if you're wearing a headset).
And the thing is tiny, 36 millimeters by 36 millimeters, 8 millimeters thick, and weighing just 15.5 grams before you slap on a wristband of your choosing.
A few more details, for the spec-hungry: the watch uses Bluetooth to manage its commands to your Droid, and sports a multitouch color OLED display.
Sony's keeping somewhat mum on battery life, but CNET says about a week with low usage, half a week with moderate usage.
The watch is something of an update of Sony's LiveView watch, which was consistently ranked among the top handful of smart watches out there.
Why do smart watches matter?
I'll restate the obvious: they prevent you from having to fumble around in your pocket, constantly.
They stand to transform your wrist into something akin to (if a wee bit short of) a heads-up display.
It might seem like a minor point, but smart watch partisans call the experience transformative, and breakthrough technologies often arise through little ergonomic efficiencies like this.
(My one complaint is that these things will surely make the often oppressive feeling of constant connectedness even more oppressive and constant.)
EDIT: I have found a website selling the device, but I have no confirmation about it being geniune or not. Anyways, on own risk check it out, but I cannot be held responsible for making you buy fake items.

The player should be universal. I have multiple BT devices and most of em can control Spotify, even if it's just the PLAY button.
It's an interesting dillemma, isn't it? The primary function of a watch is to be a reliable time teller but trying to preserve standby time means making less use of it.
To justify such a device, you would obviously need to constantly utilize it, but "heavy" usage of the device would mean having to recharge your watch every day if it makes it that far.
Not for me, personally, but I can see it being a hit with a niche group of users.
Very nice !!
Good to see someone trying a watch since ms's failure with the Timex some years ago.

The new LiveView price is to high and I think it´s cause only "Sony" branded!
I have SGS2 and liveview, and it suck big time.. all the time broken connection
Amazon now have it listed as April, I've pre-ordered it as I don't like taking my phone out to read a message when I'm out.
All the things it can do are added by installing them to the phone, I've already seen someone is adding things that Sony missed like gmail
very Nice . But Expensive

Annoyances - moved from iPhone

First, let me say up front I do not regret giving up my iPhone for the SGN2. I love this phone!
But it is not perfect. Some of my annoyances may very well be things about Android I just haven't learned yet. If that's the case, please educate me! Others are probably design or feature choices. If you know of a workaround, please share it.
1. No consistent, simple way to jump to the top of a list, page, or screen. I enabled the double-tap on the top of the phone (Settings | System | Motion | Double-tap to top) but that only works in a very few places. With the iPhone, tapping the top edge of the display provided a consistent solution.
2. I expected with the large display and high resolution to have more screen real estate on which information would be displayed. Instead all the display items (buttons, text boxes, etc.) are larger and the "Tiny" font isn't really. Sometimes I feel like I bought a remedial phone, kind of like the big print version of Readers Digest.
3. Along the same lines, why is it I can't find widgets that I can resize smaller in order to fit more information on my home screen?
4. Inflated ratings on the apps in the Play Store. Are there any 2-star rated apps? I've tried some 3- and 4-star rated apps that I would have rated no higher than 2-stars. But I have to say there certainly aren't any over-priced apps that I have run across.
5. There are Android ports or equivalents to almost all the apps I used regularly on my iPhone, but I'm sad I haven't found substitutes for some. I used Guitar Toolkit every day (for both guitar & ukulele). Thanks to forums I have found some lesser substitutes, but why do they all use midi sounds instead of actual samples of guitar & uke strings? I haven't found a substitute yet for iTunes but am still looking. And I have just begun my search for an equivalent to Camera+.
I really am fond of this phone, annoyances and all. To me, this is what the Apple Newton (anyone remember that?) would have been if Apple (Steve Jobs, actually) hadn't dropped the product after 2-3 years. I loved my Newtons which has caused me to form a strong emotional bond to this phone.
Anyone have their own annoyances--or solutions for mine?
Doug
1. There might be some application for this. Possibly. I'm not entirely sure. Android however, has complete flick scrolling. All you have to do is give it sufficient momentum, and you can fly to the top or bottom no problem. But I guess that isn't a solution really.
2 & 3. There isn't really an answer for this yet. It's bothering a lot of people. Once we get AOSP, we will hopefully get a port of ParanoidAndroid. Which will fix your issue. You can always turn down the LCD density in the build prop. But doing so will break most applications. You should be safe with setting it to 240.
4. The variety of Android phones is immense. And as such, people moving from an older model and installing the applications they are familiar with will notice an increase in performance from that application. People aren't looking at the quality of the application, but at how it affects them and their experience with it. Which is the only explanation for why Advanced Task Killer is still popular. Ignorance.
5. That happens. Some you won't find something that lives up to the iOS equivalent. Yet I've found applications that are on Android that are incredible and don't have a good iOS equivalent. Namely, PicsArt.
I don't like that the headphone jack is on the top.
And I really liked the backing and sides on the Galaxy Nexus, which I switched from to this phone. Really plasticky, not that I'm complaining. I just really enjoyed the feel of the Galaxy Nexus
I'm glad you like the phone. Be wary though, there are plenty of people on this site with an extreme hate for Apple and it's products. Though this particular forum is really well behaved, and I've only met nice people thus far. I haven't seen people attack each other for their beliefs or past yet. Knock on wood. Haha hope that helps, even though I only offered one solution to your issues.

Try a different launcher like Nova or Holo. This will at least fix your issue with not being able to resize widgets, and will also give you a lot more homescreen real estate.

Neither the iPhone 5 nor the iPad Mini measured up to what I was reading about in the Android world. And there was no turning back once I saw the specs and video reviews of the SGN2!
I may be late to the party but I've got my dancing shoes on now!

Yeah pressing the top is one of the most wanted features for me, at least when you flicker you finger faster then normal it goes up quicker or down so the helps in the browser. About the screen real state is really annoying to have only 4 apps down and 4 to the side I rooted my device mostly to help someone and put a mod for the screen, is better now

The buttons being big is annoying to me too but it is what it is, I don't play guitar so idk about the rest, I tried the new iphone 5 love the design but too small, and too limited so I stay with Android this time around and love it, welcome to the group be aware that we have a lot annoying fan boys around :/

Casio G-Shock GB-6900b now compatible after update

I received the G-Shock Gb-6900b-1b yesterday as an awesome present from my bro in law. It wasn't linking to the phone until I updated to 4.3. Casio says only the iPhone and Galaxy 4 are officially supported, but everything is fully functional as of the update.

Congratulations! Could you post some photos and to tell what exactly gives that synchronisation?
It is too expensive for me in any case. I have had a G Shock watch, I have bought it in german Amazon for about 10-20 Euro, it is looking quite the same. It has an awful quality, despite Casio usually don't do a bull****, but one left button "mode" has fallen, so now I can use this watch only with arrows.
But I think for 180 dollars they do much better watch hehehe))
I just don't understand what gives that synch for such price? Has it geolocation or radiation detector?)
P.S. white watches in your link are fancy
Here are some pictures. Keeping it connected is kind if a pain though. Hopefully it improves.
It's pure Bluetooth, allows you to set alarms and find my phone if lost. Not as fancy as the smart watches but much more durable and last a couple years.

Problem with the smart watches is requiring to regularly recharge the battery. In addition to other mobile gadgets now there is a watch to recharge (!)
So how does the battery on the casio manage with bluetooth ?
G-shock is a term Casio has been using for over a couple of decades now.
It's says it will last about two years on its charge before the battery needs replacing. No recharging!

so what is the function of the bluetooth?
My guess is that if it's constantly connected to your phone then the knock on effect will be that both devices will be hit by the usage, unless they've found a way to drip feed the BT and retain battery?
Two years on one charge is pretty epic when you consider it connects via BT.
Perhaps a kinetic type watch which replenishes the juice when you move would be a better innovation.
I've got one of these and it works pretty well. You can get alerts for email, sms, facebook, twitter, etc. You can also control the phone from the watch with features such as skip forward/backward on your music player, play/pause, volume up/down etc. The watch even displays track name info and email & SMS sender on the display. The downs are that it's a very large & chunky watch and that's from someone with a large wrist and that the phone's battery is greatly affected by this connection. I carry ZeroLemon spare batteries so to me it's not as big of a deal but to others it may be a deal breaker. Another thing is I had to disable one of the features due to annoyance & something that does need to be addressed by the folks at Casio: Lost connection warning. This is a good idea and in theory is supposed to warn you before you leave your phone somewhere. In practice what it does is annoying alert (tone & vibrate) regularly when your phone is in your pocket next to you and the connection is just dropped. The connection is far less reliable than most bluetooth devices I use and this includes going back several years. Other than that the watch is supposed to last a couple of years on a single battery which the competition couldn't dream of (although old Nokias before smart phones were the same since they had limited features which is a similar comparison) are ultra durable and with a solid price point too. While I hope they add some more features and fixes easily done through app updates the watch itself is pretty solid as expected for a G-Shock.

Should be compatible. Still working with my phone.
I couldn't find it in the play store, I was able to find it on my old xperia sp when I search for the G-Shock+ app. And if I try to side load the apk, it says "application not installed"... Could you extract the apk from your phone so I can try it out again?
mate i'm buying a g-shock today
I have that since it's first release and bundle with my Casio phone. Awesome watch but still prefer Casio Waveceptor:victory::victory::victory: Still, the battery is ****ing awesome, no replacement for 2 years now:laugh::laugh:
G-Shock+ alternative: BlueWatcher
Hello everybody,
I'm the founder of the Android Application called "BlueWatcher". BlueWatcher is the alternative to G-Shock+ Android app to control CASIO Bluetooth watches. A lot of users missed functionality in the official app and I decided to release my own app including the functionality that users proposed me. It's evolving quickly!! Now it supports all kind of notifications (facebook, whatsapp, line... all installed apps), time synchronization, musico control...
You can visit http://www.bluewatcher.es to discover more about BlueWatcher and what BlueWatcher can do for you.
It has been tested my many users in the XDA Developers forum and now it has more than a hundred downloads (~4.70 punctuation at Play Store).
I'm here to help you ([email protected]). Feedback is welcome!
See you and hope you enjoy it!
Use the old version of Gshock App
Hey man, just use the old version of the Gshock App. and don't update it. It will work better again, connects automatically.
i'm also thinking on buying gshock with bluetooth, im just wondering if the music controls work with other music players such as spotify?
After Lollipop Update it didn't work
Can't connect on my Sony Xperia Z1 after the Lollipop Update. How about yours?
