Hi there everyone,
I know this is a nooby question - but I really need a ROM suggestion.
Currently I'm on an iteration of CM12 and it's absolutely awful - by that I mean, CM12 has fundamental flaws (namely Bluetooth) that STILL haven't been fixed since SGS1 days.
So I need to flash off this and get a ROM that actually works flawlessly and doesn't have any glitches.
This is all I need from the phone (NZ100 UK unlocked):
-Root access
-Can change music, when screen is off via volume rocker
-Some sort of audio tweaks - ie equivalent of Boeffla sound or voodoo sound would be great
-Preferably on lollipop
-Good battery life. Performance is less of an issue to me, as I use my phone mainly for browsing, Bluetooth connectivity and listening to music
That's about it!
Thanks!
Anyone out there?
I heard that AGNi kernel and slimkat are a great combination (though not lollipop). I personally couldn't get them to work, but you seem to be more knowledgeable than me, so you probably can. Liquidsmooth also looks very promising for a lollipop rom.
Hope I was of any help!

Hi there, i opened this thread because i'm desperately trying to find a ROM/kernel which meets my needs.
I'm looking for:
Stability; Bugfree; Battery; Audio; these are my primary objectives (i'd like to have some customization option but i don't care as long as i have those)
I've tried so far:
Stock ROM with Franco.Kernel + LOUDERmod: PRO: Fantastic Battery
BAD: It had some bugs (WiFi disconnecting and then stuck into a loop searching for AP reboot needed) and the volume did not increase; So i flashed another rom right away.
Minco v4: PRO: Fantastic Battery life, fantastic audio
BAD: Same bug as the franco.Kernel, audio stop working while listen to music or youtube or other stuff while the 3,5mm jack is connected (tested on another galaxy nexus with different headphones same problem)
Codename Android: PRO: Fantastic Battery life, nice audio, quite stable, nice features.
BAD: Same bug on WiFi as the previous ones, after 2 weeks apps were crashing randomly so i got sick of the WiFi problem and flashed another rom;
Paranoid Android: PRO: Nice Battery life, nice audio, stable, very good features;
BAD: First ROM without the damned WiFi bug, a nice rom indeed. There are some bugs though and the "Per APP color" System slowed my nexus a lot. I kept it 'till a week ago when i flashed a cyano nightly
Cyanogen MOD: PRO: nice audio, stable, bug free, so much features that i'm still discovering things after a week.
BAD: Battery life. I need it for work.
I need some advices. I need a ROM (or the stock with a kernel) that i can keep for long times... the stock rom is nice, but battery life and audio suck.
I've had little to no problems with Air Kernel Weeklys, Glados v2.1 is also a very good kernel. I've had problems with Franco, Zen Kernel, Tuna and Nyan. Air Kernel is my daily driver, gonna give Ink a try. No roms are trouble free, I'm on a VZW Nexus and have had good luck with Alien rom, Factory 2.2 and now Atom.

Thanks for the advices, i think INK will be my first try because i'm italian myself, if i get any problems i'll update this post with my experience
Yeah, I tried ink last night with atom ROM and it didn't boot.
Team EOS.
Flash the latest from here http://goo.im/devs/teameos/roms/eos3/nightlies/maguro/ and Gapps. Best experience I've had. it's unique, and smooth as you like. I get a whole day's normal use out of the battery as well (on 3G during the day at work).
Hey guys,
first of all great job and big thanks to everyone contributing to this community.
the g pad is my second tablet so far (after the nexus 7 2013) and i really love the form factor and the design - it's actually almost perfect expect of the fact, that it doesn't have stock android on it - well at least not in germany or europe at all, where you unfortunately cannot get access to the google play edition.
however, after installing cm11 and mahdi onto my g pad i issued a strange sound problem, which is quite hard to describe.
every now and then (sometimes every minute, sometimes every half an hour) when i played a youtube video or twitch stream there was an annoying high frequent "bzzz" - sound coming from the speakers, like if there was some kind of an error. the rest of the system went well and following the threads no one really described a similar problem. its just a short sound, but can be pretty, pretty annoying, because its way louder than the normal sound playing.
i am just wondering if i really am the only one having that strange sound issue or if it is indeed a common problem?
especially the fact that it happens on both the mahdi and cm rom makes me ponder, lg stock rom was totally fine - thats why it cannot be a hardware problem in my opinion...
would be great if anyone maybe has an idea how to fix this problem, because i cannot get along with the stock lg rom and would love to have stock android on the g pad as well as on my nexus devices.
thanks in advance!!

Hi,
I have same problem too, it happens to me when I'm playing some games or movies, I have CM11-20140314, sound is something like "truck horn"
well it seems to be a kernel problem.
i've installed the latest dyn kernel and it seems to have solved the problem - no sound issues anymore for me since saturday. :victory:
please let me know if it works for you as well predator_x.

mahdi is a custom rom.
i guess the kernel should work fine on a cm based rom as well, just give it a try.
btw: here is a quote from the dyn thread:
Which kernel should I choose?
There are V500 KitKat roms which work with G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition stock code (GPE) or with code from Code Aurora Forum (CAF).
"CM" build for:
- CM11
- Mahdi-Rom 01/17 or later
- other CM/CAF based roms

Hi folks,
I hope this isn't a faux pas. I understand we're not supposed to start religious wars about which ROM is the best. So let's not do that. But I could use some advice on the pros and cons of the different options open to me. Here is my situation and success criteria:
1. My T-Mo M919 is currently running an old SlimKat Android 4.4.4 from August 2014. I'm on the MDL bootloader and NB4 GSM modem at the moment. It's running mostly OK, with some camera freezes, some issues with battery drain when Bluetooth is on but not connected to a paired device or in use (wakelock prevents deep sleep... possibly app related?), and I've noticed the ATT Visual Voicemail app, when used to listen to a voicemail, kills subsequent phone call audio/microphone requiring reboot.
2. I've gotten used to Android 5.1(.1) on my tablet and I'd like to make the jump up to Lollipop on my phone, too. So I'm mostly looking at ROMs that are either 5.1 or 5.1.1. However, I'm considering as an outside contender just getting the OH3 firmware for the M919, doing the double flash to get me all the way there, then rooting and freezing Samsung crapware.
3. My criteria are: STABILITY. I don't need a lot of customization. I just want the thing to work. This includes being able to use the camera without it freezing, and being able to use my visual voicemail app without it nuking the phone function of the... uh... phone.
4. I use the phone mostly as an email / texting / forum-browsing device that a few times a week is actually used as a phone to make voice calls. I occasionally tether other devices to the phone's wifi. This needs to work without a hitch.
5. I use Bluetooth to pair with my car's audio system and I need that to be smooth. I recall in the KitKat days there were lots of complaints about glitch pairing/audio. My Slimkat has worked well with the car audio (a late model Toyota); no glitches. I want something that will have stable Bluetooth audio.
My current planned front-runner is the 5.1 GPE ROM by Danvdh. It seems quite stable from reading the thread.
Team Radium's ROM also looks promising.
On the AOSP side, the relatively pure AOSP recently posted by AntaresOne looks good. And I've run Dirty Unicorns before, in the 4.4 days before I moved to SlimKat. That was a good experience. And of course I hear the Slim folks are rebooting so SlimPop or whatever is an option.
I'd like any good direction, focused on stability rather than artwork or customizability, that will help me decide. Thanks!

Honestly, if your focus is on stability rather than artwork/customizability, you're best off flashing back to stock, as pretty much every 5.1.1 ROM for the S4 is going to have a bug somewhere in it; even in the ones you've mentioned, there are bug complaints in their respective threads.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using XDA Free mobile app
This is definitely something I'm considering, but I'd really like to move to 5.1(.1), so I'm willing to give a ROM a try. It sucks that T-Mo never released Lollipop for the M919. I figure if I pick the most stable / settled-in Pop ROM, maybe it will work out. If not I'll drop back to stock 4.4.4 OH3, then freeze out the crap.
Hi,
I still have the original factory rom in my tab s SM-T805. And now, it is already high time to change it.
I checked that there is a very good thread about how to root it (thanks!).
Could you recomend me a ROM? I am after this requirements:
- Clean (without samsung's and others' crap)
- Stable
- Without unnecessary extra features that can make it slow. I just would like to be able to use "multiwindow" with almost any app.
Thanks!
You need to check the threads in the dev section. No one can really answer this question.
Thanks!
Personally it's PAC-MAN rom for me so far.
I've tried Iron ROM but PAC-MAN ROM running on Android 5.1.1 is just so freaking responsive!
Everything works so well except for the proximity sensor.
When I'm making calls with the device next to my ear, the screen is still on hence I accidentally pressed on unwanted buttons
and losing precious battery juice.
My battery life improved significantly as well!

Anyone else have a suggestion for the cleanest most stable ROM? I am on Blisspop on my phone and love it if there's something similar to that.

I also recommend PAC-MAN rom. I have the T700 wifi model so the proximity issue isn't really an issue for me and since the brightness control is working now, I don't have any issue at all. Xposed and Viper4Android both work so I have everything I want that I can think of.
Is it PAC-MAN working better than IRONROM?

Both are great options, but if you have a 5GHz wifi band and want to use it, then you'll want to use PAC-MAN. For some reason IronRom doesn't support it. Also, PAC-MAN is far more customizable since it isn't using TouchWiz.
In the ironrom's thread, most of the people say that is it working... at least that what is said in the survey...
and sorry for my ignorance, whats the difference between using TouchWiz and not using it?
Just got a bit tired of little bugs in the CM13 based roms and thinking about switching back to CM11. The only concern is the lack of security updates after the maintainers abandoned the projects for newer android versions.
Did anyone here try downgrading? Or maybe never upgraded? Is it wise to do so?
Some of my issues with CM13 based roms which have put me off:
Insane lag when reciving calls
Adopting Storage doesn't work half the time
Front Camera crashes
Mobile Data issues
Lock Screen Wallpaper Issue
Music suspend bug
Battery drain Issue
LOL brother. I am still using CM 11 build 14/11/15 with Xcelerate kernel build 4/12/15.
I still used this OS as it gives me atleast 500+mb ram which I require a lot for gaming.
At battery 100%............(with airplane mode on)...wifi on After 3hrs of continuous wifi gaming my battery drops to around 20%.
So I guess battery life is good.......though i haven't activated any sim cards(that would be a different story)
I don't have any voice(call) related problem though. Only bug is HDR. Once a picture is clicked with HDR on, you have to exit camera to click again in HDR mode
I actually need a CM 13 rom which provide such performance.(I was thinking about Slim rom 0.4 by Aniket Lamba)
So if anyone can suggest me better rom then please let me know. For me stability & usability matters more than recent builds.
I always will appreciate any information whether good or bad
I used to like KK as it was last in the line of the Holo interface and it was the only 4.x available for our phone, so I used it for fairly long and didn't switch to LP until MM came around. Along with Xcelerate it was really good: decent battery life, smooth experience and fast charging. But now that I've grown to like the Material interface as well, I've been using MM more often these few months, especially Slim6, which I feel gives the same feel I used to get on KK: stability and smoothness.
KK is still one of my more favourite ROMs, but given that KK is mostly dead by now and there are more developments and features in LP and MM, I think I'll just stick to Slim6.

1) I don't get this
2) I don't use Adoptive Storage, heard it screws with WiFi
3) I don't get this (it has been fixed recently)
4) Depends on ROM
5) GravityBox (for AOSP MM), or this guide (which also works on CM13)
6) Disable MPDecision. Strangely when I downgraded to CM11 I was still getting the bug.
7) Depends on ROM
The issues I had with CM11 were generally the use of Apollo and the HDR issue as stated in the post before mine. And the music bug after downgrading. Apart from those I was happy with it, and I wouldn't mind a single bit to change back to it. I just don't understand the hate regarding KK, especially in the MIUI 8 thread...

Hate towards KK is only because most of the apps are working great in >LP than in KK. If MIUI with LP is given then it can be easily a great choice for armani. MIUI ram issues have sorted out but only thing is standby time(wifi on) is low.

The music bug persisting after the downgrade is what's keeping me back. I, too, don't use Adoptive storage for all the bugs it brings - even on AOSP. But this means I'm running out of space by the end of the month because of necessary evils like WhatsCrap.
The gravitybox mod is good to know, although I don't use xposed, but really is simply a hassle to effectively change your wallpaper - especially when I'm changing them every other week.
I've recently tried disabling MPDecision - the music seems to be playing fine but I can't help but notice sightly degraded performance all around.

Adoptive Storage is a hassle to set up: you need to format your SD card (which meant I had to shift everything out before converting it), and TWRP has no way to read such encrypted storage, so I didn't use it after the first time I tried it. Also you could do with regular housekeeping of your phone's storage; usually I keep WhatsApp images for a year before deleting them (after keeping the important ones and archiving the rest).

Xposed is very helpful, but if you don't want to use it then I won't force you.
Generally in those CM12/13 ROMs if I wanted to switch between lockscreen wallpapers I would leave a couple of those wallpapers in the /data/system/users/0 folder, just renamed to let me know which file is which wallpaper. Whenever I wanted to change them I just renamed them to the proper filename.

You don't have to leave MPDecision off the whole time: just disable it when listening to music, and re-enable it afterward.

What I think is that the KK firmware/modem we all flashed for CM13 builds has something to do with the music suspend bug. This is probably the reason why downgrading back to CM11/12.1 doesn't seem to fix this issue.
Anyway, seems like I'll just stick with CM13 for now.

Well not really, as the same v7.0.5.0 is used for CM11, 12 and early 13 builds. It's most likely a kernel issue, given that disabling MPDecision fixes it somewhat.
