Developer edition Roms? - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
Am about to buy the Dev edition note 4.
Curious, once I root/twrp, what Roms are there available?
Can I flash a n910f ROM?
Thanks.

First, my comments should not be construed as a "negitive" opinion of the ROMs that are available for the DE Note 4. With the exception of the CM12 (work in progress) I'm sure the ROMs that are available are very well done. There are 4 ROMs that I know of: Definitive ROM and Rick's ROM that can be found in the Android Development section next door, FireKat Rom which is available in the T-Moble forum (the developer has a version for the Verizon DE), and a semi-working CM12 build that is truly a work in progress at this point. There may be one or two others that I haven't heard of, but the number is pretty small. However, on a more positive note, many DE owners have found that the stock ROM, rooted with some self-debloating, running Xposed framework with Wanam module coupled with a launcher like Nova or Apex etc provides a great degree of customization while maintaining great battery life, data and overall smooth performance of the DE Note 4.

Thanks guys. I was planning to do just that - debloat, xposed and call it a day. I worry I'll grow tired of touchwiz though. It does seem more refined since the S5 build. Namely the stock contacts/phone app. Why such large, childish UI, samsung?

[Q] Daily Driver ROM - Like stock but fast and debloated

Hello,
I am looking for a custom ROM that is based on the stock builds but, debloated, rooted, and fast. I have always found these for Captivate, and S2. I can't seem to find one for the S3.
The open source ROMs are super slick and cool, but, I actually prefer the way stock Samsung handles the dialer, contacts, email, and messaging. As this is 90% of my usage, it is 90% of my enjoyment.
I do like the speed and options available in a custom ROM though. I need a daily driver with options
Any recommendations?
Thanks...DCF

I concur.
XDA is a development site not a support site. As such members are expected to do the research, read through the development threads and decide what is BEST for them. The only results that would be posted here are what each member has found to be BEST for them by experimentation based on their phone/usage/setup/apps/signal strength. Please take the time to read through those development threads to learn all about the software you are about to drastically alter your very expensive device with.
Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation.

[Q] ROM Request?

ROM Request- Can someone create a ROM or refer me to one which has 4.4.2 KitKat with apps ported from Note 3 and Galaxy S4? I have researched up on this little bit, but without any luck couldn't find a ROM for my carrier. Note 3 currently has 4.4.2 KitKat and after looking at it looks pretty good. It is kind of like the "S4 Revolution ROM," but unfortunately it doesn't support T-Mobile carrier.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/rom-s4-revolution-v12latest-update-t2311671
Basic idea is that I am looking for a ROM that looks similar to 4.4.2 KitKat running on Note 3 right now.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_02wdy_oENo I am currently running CyanogenMod 11 (M3) for t-mobile, but I started missing some of the features that TouchWiz offers. If anyone has ideas how I can get some Note 3 features: Multiwindows (Quad view, Same app in two windows), note 3 lockscreen(ink effect0...etc. Please let me know how I can get them, but I also do like the new Google Now launcher & do not want to remove it. Is it that I cannot get any of these features in a ROM like CyanogenMod? Because I like how this ROM is but would like to add some "features" if possible. (Current Phone: Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-T999)
Thanks for the help in advance!
Take one of AOSP Kitkat Roms and skin/theme it to make it look like Note 3

Can you provide a link to a ROM like this? And what should I use to theme it?
You can look for LiquidSmooth, PAC Man, AOKP or Slim Bean. For Theaming Look in Play Store for a pretty launcher like Go Launchers and its themes.

I tried looking for these ROMS but none of them run 4.4.2 KitKat.
Request made, as XDA is not a support site, members are expected to read and research the products in the development threads to find what they need. Or learn how to mod what it is they would like.

[Q] which Custom Rom is Best ???

Hi
there is many custom Rom in XDA (thanks developers)
but I don't now which one is best for use.
I cant test them or read users feedback (I'm so busy)
thnx
sorry about my English
it depends on what you want from the rom...
-touchwiz (stock) or open source rom (cm, pa, aokp)
which have thier own benefits/disadvantages. (touchwiz offer full samsung experiences i.e. all share, snote/spen, multi windows, camera etc.)
in the other hand, aosp rom offer you more speed, battery life, newer or absent function from touchwiz
(for aosp, recommend you to try official cm or slim rom 4.3, 4.4 first whichever you prefer)
-or if you prefer touchwiz, my vote is on Hurricane rom
Cheers

actually the leaked 4.4.2 Touchwiz rom is giving me more battery life than any of the aosp roms. Also note i never used custom kernels on aosp ROM so my battery life always depended on my usage and nothing was tweaked. And to the OP you just can't be like "i am so busy,so i have no time to test", if you got no time then i suggest you stay away from flashing custom ROMS cause somewhere you'll be having some issues with something not working right.so if key to you is having a workable phone then stick to stock ROM and if you ever find time then flash few different ROMS and see what suits you best. Also each ROM wouldn't be fully working from the time you flash it,there will be some bugs and you would have to read the thread to find ways to fix it which means you need to have time.
Ditto Note 3 is the best on touchwiz
because its got lot of features which we could have not dreamt also.

Its really.down to you to.find which rom suits you best. We cant come here and say one rom is better, that just means its best for us. Flash a rom use it for a few days then try another. Consider what ypu want from the rom, which version of android what sort of mods youd like etc.
personally I use ARHD with ETeam note 3 pack, mannyvinneys 240dpi mod and Wanam Xposed. That gives me the best of everything. Doesnt mean it will be right.for.you though...

there are many Roms out there, among all of those, my personal best is Cyanogenmod. its fast, smooth and easy to use (pure Android Experience) but if you r thinking of something like samsung stock ROM with Note 3 features you can try out DittoNote3, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2504016 this is heavily featured for power user, there are 2 versions 4.4.2 and 4.3 but 4.3 is stable no problem at all..this is my daily driver...

Stock Android ROM (nexus/play edition) for GS3

Does an 'untweaked' Play Edition (Nexus) ROM exist for the GS3. I have done some searching, but when have not had much luck.
Thank you,
Don
By Google Play edition, are you referring to the experience on "Google Play Edition Devices" as listed here? If that's the case, then you are looking for AOSP Roms. (Please Google AOSP). Such Roms offer pure android experience without the manufacturer bloat.
Primary among AOSP Roms is CynogenMod or CM for short. Then there are several other Roms that also offer AOSP experience but add a few niche features. You can find them all in the "Original Android Development" SubForum.
You will also come across Roms that are Touchwiz. These roms are based on Samsung's Stock firmware. If the above is true, you are not looking for this.
A plain AOSP ROM is what I am looking for. I have recently become aware of the xposed framework etc, and want to see how it works with AOSP (rather than an already mod'd ROM).
Thank you again!

Xposed Framework will work pretty well on AOSP Roms. Does some great things.
Which AOSP ROM would you recommend for me to start experimenting with. I assume I want the most basic (pure PE) ROM so modules do not conflict?
I also have a insurance replaced GS3 with the stock TW Samsung ROM on it. Once I root, can I use the Xposed framework on it (would I even want to)?
Thank you for your help and attention.

Yes. There are xposed modules made for touchwiz. Many people love using them, but im not yet convinced its as good using a rom with the desired mods built in.
Id suggest reading up on it and giving it a try to see how well it works for your needs. Just dont forget to backup first of course.

There are quiet a few Roms that are pretty Good. For Ex. Slim Bean, C-Rom, CM to name just a few of the AOSP Roms. As to the Xposed Modules, as Doc said, You'd rather use what's baked into the Rom rather than use corresponding Module.
Here on XDA, we do not "Reccomend" any particular Rom for at least a couple of Reasons.
1. Reccomending one rom does injustice to the hard work of the Developers of the other Roms. They all really are Great ones.
2. What is Good for me and my usage pattern may not hold true for you or anyone else.
Best way to determine is to give each Rom a try and see what you are comfortable with. As always take a Nandroid before hand so you can retrace your Steps.
Xposed mods work on both types. I stick with touchwiz ROMs though mostly for true multi window.
I can confirm Xposed works on S3rx and Docs port of 4.4 from sprint perfectly.

[Q] Best ROM

Hi there,
for a long time I used the Stock based ROM ExistenZ Ultra until it did not work anymore. Back then I tried several custom ROMs but most of them I did not like for several reasons. I went back recovering the original stock ROM, that was more than half a year ago.
Since I use my phone mainly for basic stuff the Stock ROM is enough for me. But some things (especially the bloatware) annoy me. Now on my spring break I want to try a new Custom ROM. Since I did not follow the Custom ROM Development for a while I have no clue which ROM would fit my needs the best.
Therefore I seek a ROM which is best for me and best for my needs:
What it should have:
-Best performance/speed
-Best battery life
-Most improved Camera possible
-At least bloatware as possible
What would be cool too:
-Dark theme
-Pre installed flashlight wich can be activated on the notification bar (I mean those quick settings where I can active Wi-Fi, Sound etc.)
I am really used to the Stock ROM and I really like it. But if there is a other ROM which is so much better I would also use a ROM which is not stack based.
Thank you very much.

Unfortunately it still is not released. Any other suggestions?
