[Q] which Custom Rom is Best ??? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
there is many custom Rom in XDA (thanks developers)
but I don't now which one is best for use.
I cant test them or read users feedback (I'm so busy)
thnx
sorry about my English

it depends on what you want from the rom...
-touchwiz (stock) or open source rom (cm, pa, aokp)
which have thier own benefits/disadvantages. (touchwiz offer full samsung experiences i.e. all share, snote/spen, multi windows, camera etc.)
in the other hand, aosp rom offer you more speed, battery life, newer or absent function from touchwiz
(for aosp, recommend you to try official cm or slim rom 4.3, 4.4 first whichever you prefer)
-or if you prefer touchwiz, my vote is on Hurricane rom
Cheers

actually the leaked 4.4.2 Touchwiz rom is giving me more battery life than any of the aosp roms. Also note i never used custom kernels on aosp ROM so my battery life always depended on my usage and nothing was tweaked. And to the OP you just can't be like "i am so busy,so i have no time to test", if you got no time then i suggest you stay away from flashing custom ROMS cause somewhere you'll be having some issues with something not working right.so if key to you is having a workable phone then stick to stock ROM and if you ever find time then flash few different ROMS and see what suits you best. Also each ROM wouldn't be fully working from the time you flash it,there will be some bugs and you would have to read the thread to find ways to fix it which means you need to have time.

Ditto Note 3 is the best on touchwiz
because its got lot of features which we could have not dreamt also.

Its really.down to you to.find which rom suits you best. We cant come here and say one rom is better, that just means its best for us. Flash a rom use it for a few days then try another. Consider what ypu want from the rom, which version of android what sort of mods youd like etc.
personally I use ARHD with ETeam note 3 pack, mannyvinneys 240dpi mod and Wanam Xposed. That gives me the best of everything. Doesnt mean it will be right.for.you though...

there are many Roms out there, among all of those, my personal best is Cyanogenmod. its fast, smooth and easy to use (pure Android Experience) but if you r thinking of something like samsung stock ROM with Note 3 features you can try out DittoNote3, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2504016 this is heavily featured for power user, there are 2 versions 4.4.2 and 4.3 but 4.3 is stable no problem at all..this is my daily driver...

[Q] Best ROM?????

just a simple question what ROM should i flash.
Which is the best one.
I'd think blacknotes because it has eveything on it.
But Optimized Kezra V4 Final seems good because its claimed no lagg and stuff.
Hi
I am new to the whole rom flashing concept. However after trying all the galaxy w roms in the development section I reached a conclusion that the best rom around is stock rom. U just have to root, add busybox and then apply v6 supercharger and you will have a very stable and responsive device. All other roms had me facing some issue or another.
At least until arco finishes our cm9
Sent from my GT-I8150 using XDA
It seems that the Cow Bionic rom have highest score from antutu
Are you sure???
What about using new kernel with stock ROM.
....And when you flash a new ROM can you just only restore Data in CWM to get my apps back. i dont want to use titanium back up because its annoying i have alot of apps.
cow rom is the best. most stable. I've tried all the others.
Just so i'm clear.
The roms are pretty stable until I add arabic support. After that I get force close bugs almost 3 times a day. It might be the arabic patch I am using. Anyway after that I went back to stock for UAE and with v6 super charger it's great. I hope to be able to use one of the roms cos I really liked bionic cow 2. But until someone makes it pre set with arabic read/write i'm gonna stick with stock
I also would like to pay respect to all MODers out there. I know they put lots of effort in making the roms and I don't want anyone to think that I don't respect them

Hi,
I think cyanogenmod is the best
Black Notes or Bionic Cow
I might change rom because i cant play temple run with Black notes also BlackNotes has no multitasking at all in any way.

how long does the battery last??? 9hrs
Let me share my experience..
I hope it will help.
- I use kezra ROM for my first custom rom and it's work well for me but it's quite laggy when I play hd game.
- And then COW bionic ROM is available. So I try it (non OC version ). Result: it's work perfectly for my daily use.. it's little bit laggy if for HD game but I didn't play much anyway so I use this ROM for quite long until
- hybrid 2nd generation is available. So I decide to try this new ROM.
this ROM is awesome. I didn't get laggy at all when I am play hd game. But unlucky, I encounter many FC if I use it quite a while without restart it.
- alpha 1 for CM9 is available. So try it.. camera didn't work but I didn't care about it.. it's awesome.. very smooth and also didn't laggy for hd game. But I got APN problem and I can't find the solution at that moment. So I m back to COW Bionic ROM.
- and then arco find APN problem solution. So I try it again. And it work perfectly. And I am use it until now (alpha3). So if camera issue is not major issue for you, i do recommend this awesome ROM.
Or just try spent your time to find your soulmate ROM. Life is a choice anyway. ^.^

i think bionic cow 7 v2 it's a stable rom..
currently using FAW rom..for me its the best rom compare to others (IMO)
previously im using hybrid, bionic rom v2 oso kezra v4..
all are great in normal usage..but when come to HD games such as shadowgun, asphalt 6 and others, my previous custom rom tend to cause laggy in the game..and sometime when it become so lag..suddenly it will restart by its self..
but im really glad that there are so many developers out there trying their best for the BEST rom..
and im here..always ready to try it!!thanks you all!!

Just a comment. FAW ROM is using stock XXLM8 kernel while others are using Cow kernel. So far, XXLM8/DXLM3 kernel gives better visual performance.
For England Value Pack
is there a rom for the value pack STOCK only.
Because i want just the stock rom because is good.
Where is the rom if there is one?????
i loved it

i don't know if there was a stock value pack just for England region at the moment, but i suggest you to check it on this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1654643
or, you can search it on sammobile, on its firmware section (just goog it).
and also, AFAIK the value pack for europe region started from series xxlm6 and above (please CMIIW guys, )
and related with the topic of this thread, i think the bionic V2 still the best GB custom ROM for this device (IMO).
really stable and had many alternatives, such as choosing OC or non-OC kernel, smooth/fast performance, or turn on/off the zram with cow panel. All of that features are really innovative, because it give more options for the user to determine their best setting.

CM9 based ROM is still considered W.I.P, even most of the functions are working, but it may not be as stable as GB
If you wish to try a ICS looks GB ROM, which may be more stable, there are a few:
Black Notes Last Page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1483072
Rebel ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673875

Actually I found it even if is still in Alpha its stable and smoother than the GB custom ROMs and alot of the problems in the past like poor battery life isn't there in its current build.
From my view, stable is when i could hand over my phone to someone who is not experienced with phones and tech in general, so i would have a good feeling.
Thats not the case with CM9 atm - White Screen Bug, Bluetooth partially working, Camera sometimes crashes, battery life - all problems that may be irrelevant to experienced users, but we should keep a neutral definition to the word "stable".
Currently it is Alpha, and i guess that is what a manufacturer would also call it, if it would be an official ROM.
Besides this terminology, arco has really done great work with CM9, and he is pushing development further with good common sense i think.

Yea, I also agreed that CM9 is a good job, but since he/she mentioned newbie in the title so I think GB may be a less problematic choice at this moment, myself wish to use CM9 too, but I don't really have time for switching and updating ROM frequently
Personally i use MUTANT ROM, good battery life, rather smooth and stable. If you prefer a GB ROM, i would recommend this.
BTW, how is the ICS ROM going? Is the battery life still unstable? The last time i use ParanoidAndroid, the battery was like... 30% drop in 5hours of standby... GOSH...

Black Notes Last Page, it's working well but just:
i) After executing the SuperCharger V6 script, I may not receive the incoming messages, but I guess I may have to play with the setting a bit, anyway I seldom run that script, so it don't really affect me a lot
ii) If I open too much pages in the Opera Mobile, it may freeze for a few minutes, but I think it may be the Opera Mobile's problem
iii)In a few buttons(such as Save & Cancel button for the alarm clock setting), both the background & word are dark in colour, so it is not really well visible
And I had answered ansyori28, sgaheer, bladez87 and your question yesterday, really sorry for replying so late, for you question, I think it should be okay if it didn't force close after you fixed(changed) the permission to rw-r--r-- and reboot

im newbie in here..thats why im asking you guys..
Welcome to the forums as well!
Right now I'm trying out AOKP (Build 5) after coming off of CM 10 (M2). Both AOKP and CM10 are pretty rock solid to me - I've never had any issues with either of them. CM10 have higher benchmark scores than AOKP did, but AOKP (to me) has a much better battery life and allows for far more customization (colors, lock screen, menu, toggles, etc). But even though AOKP doesn't score as high, I don't see any "real" performance hit... if any. I've never really trusted benchmarks on how well my phone will perform... I just like having high numbers to show off ;D
Overall, AOKP is doing wonders for me! Running that along side Air Kernel (with my beloved SmartAssV2 governor).
Here's my advice to you:
- Download a ROM you think you'll like; CM10 for example.
- Go into your custom recovery (CWM or TWRP) and flash it.
- Get it setup the way you want to (ie: Add your apps, settings, kernel, etc)
- Make a Nandroid backup (include boot.img to keep your kernel)
- Wipe everything afterwards and flash another ROM! (like AOKP, Codename, etc)
Just keep doing that until you think you know what ROM you wanna use. Then you can just restore that backup you made and you good to go! ^_^

-Codename android is close to stock with some of the goodies from AOKP and CM10
-AOKP
-Paranoid android if you like messing around with the DPI
Those were my top 3 roms. Feel free to browse and choose a rom in the dev section.
Good luck!
I like MIUI. I recommend downloading different ROMs and trying them out and seeing which one you like. Some are similar to stock but enhanced functionality others are like HTC Sense or TouchWiz with a very different look and feel.
Try a few out.
I personally like the stock experience. Being with Verizon (Toro), we don't get the latest updates 'til probably around 6 months after. In this case, I use BuglessBeast to get the latest with stock experience. Hope that helps!
Read through some ROM posts before flashing. Bugs can pop up in the best of them. I personally like Codename. Just depends on how much customization you want. I agree with the other posts about trying more than one. After all that's half the fun.
My personal favorite is Bamf + diet kernel. There is no bugs what so ever and it is very stock with the customization features that you want.
Xenon HD +Trinity kernel ftw.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I'm running XenonHD form Oct24th. I have tried others and found this ROM working well for me. I did run the XenonHD from 9/29 prior to that. Apparently when I installed a version after 9/29, that one was not behaving well. So I went back to 9/29 until today.
Just finished the install a couple hours ago.
I find the battery life of the XenonHD rom to be very good (for what I do with the phone).
Surely there are many other great ROM's out there and the best ay to find YOUR Rom is to try a few.
Good luck and have fun with your GNex.

The best one if the one you like the best. Even if that means stock.
Okay this is what I think.
Omega - Super good for themeing. Kinda heavy for a normal user
ARHD - Very close to stock. One of the best roms for me. Never had any issue with this.
monxdified - Honestly, this is one hell of a rom. Very good and slim. Didn't expect it to work well but heck, it does! No problem and highly recommended.
HyperNote - if you like a superb slim rom, this is the one for you. No bloatware. All all to you.
Crash - Too early to say. Still in testing phrase for me.
If you ask me, here's my rating.
ARHD = monxDIFIED > Omega > HyperNote > Crash
But, don't take my word completely! Try it out or something

On the latest builds some S-Pen functionality has been included (don't know how much though). I think they are including the wacom digitizer drivers on the kernel/rom. The stylus is functional, you loose functionality related to TW. And there's some apps that you can use instead of Samsungs, like Papyrus instead of S-Note (which is 10 times smaller btw). We'll see how it evolves, maybe in a couple of months there will be new ways of using the stylus implemented on those roms that you can't use with Samsung stock roms.

first of all, I think this is an excellent idea to gauge other users opinion. I have been using ARHD, and I think it is excellent. I would like to use a very slim ROM which focuses on best phone reception, leaving plenty of memory to watch movies/play games/or emails. Talking of movies, it would be nice to use ext4 format for sd card and permanently setting internal/external sd card. Anyone, advise.
Ive heard that battery life on stock rom is much more better than on all custom roms...

Reading all the good reviews, I dont see a thing that I will gain installing any custom Rom and the best of best is still STOCK.
Hats off to Samsung.. no doubt hiring Steve (Cyanogen) is paying off well.
Right now I am rooted, have CWM touch recovery installed and only installed Multi App mod, waiting for a really temting rom to arrive.
There are great great hard works from developers and will have to wait some more days to enjoy best of custom roms which are evolving..till them Stock rom is perfect!!!

Have you tried Android Revolution HD? Its a stock rom with better performance and battery life,no visual changes or other mods.
Try version 4.2, dont flash 5.0, its based on the new leak and have some bugs.
Ok will sure try ....I am cust rom lover...
Is this the best as per you..?
Do I need to flask kernel too... or is stock kernel ok?

If u want stock look ARHD is the best version 4.2,in aroma gives you the option to flash stock or Perseus ver. 26.1, go with Perseus better performance and battery life.
Some phones faced bugs and some didn't - weird. But, this also happens when you use any ROM and you're 100% sure you flashed correctly. I had no problems with ARHD 5. With monxDIFIED (my current test for the last 5 days) I used it for over 2 days without recharging and I still had about 26% battery. GPS, WI-FI etc. were on all the time. Using No-Frills CPU control to hit both top and bottom end (although top end only allows 1.6GHz, whereas with ARHD5, it allowed 1.8GHz(?))
There's a lot to be said about flashing and wiping et al.
I don really like CM stuff for my NoteII.

[Q] looking for a ROM with 100% stock look but optimized

Hi
am looking for a custom ROM for this phone , which is debloated , and optimized yet has every possible stock look to it .
thanks
Though I am gonna flash the fat ass ROM.
But its not debloated , if anyone can point me to a stock ROM thats optimized and debloated then I ll be highly thankful.
Energized from The Fantastic Galaxy S3
Take a look at CleanBean v0.6. It's stock TW that has been optimized. Runs incredibly smooth and stable with amazing battery life.

Try the original version of The People's Rom. It's got options to install apps vice just everything. (Slimmer version) Aroma installer allows you to pick and chose what is added.
What about blazer?
I'm on the Sac23's Synergy ROM port V2 and it looks pretty stock, but it is optimized and it have working multi window, and a great battery life. I would definitely recommend it if you like tw

tried many , but really somehow each rom has been modified themewise in one way or the other.
isnt there any stock rom , which has been debloated to bare minimum and has some customizations added for smoothness and better reception and battery
i know i am asking for too much may be , but i firmly believe there sghould be some for stock look lovers like me

If you load TPR and during aroma installer choose the apps you want it's flashed with the boatware you don't want out. Then you can use Morphology to give it the stock theme look completely.

Your best bet is to download the stock rom and debloat the .zip file yourself. Most rom creators wouldn't be doing much if that's all they did. That's why they add tweaks. Debloating mainly involves just deleting the apps you'd never use. Over time, you'll get to know which ones are necessary and if you mess up just restore your nandroid backup.
