Dropped/loss of signal during call - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

So my mom upgraded her original Note (i717) to the Note 4 (N910A). Came out of the box with the NK3 update.
The problem is that whenever she uses the phone, it will randomly drop the call; can be 20 minutes or 2 minutes before it drops. Sometimes there will be two beeps when attempting to call back. Also the signal bars will completely drop and the no signal icon will appear. HOWEVER, after ending the call, the signal miraculously comes back.
I've disable HD voice call, and that did absolutely nothing. Using the hidden menu and disabling LTE (thanks AT&T for butchering the regular settings) seems to have stabilize the calls now, but for a flagship phone, not having LTE is a big minus.
She has considered returning the Note 4 for the iPhone 6+, which is a complete step backwards in my book.
Anyone else having similar problems?

Hopefully it's just the sim card. Pretty sure if it is the phone itself, my mom will switch to the 6+ immediately and not play the lottery game on getting a flawless Note 4.
Edit: After some more searching, the culprit may be the NK3 update. Which sucks because you cannot avoid the upgrade, and it will automatically install after the third dismissal.

You can flash back to NIE, regardless if your device came w NK3, and you can disable the updater service w the debloater program.*

Much appreciated. Hopefully this will stop the random drops for good, until lollipop comes out.

Update: phone is still dropping calls, even with the NIE update. Time to head to the AT&T store now. Gonna have them look at the account and see if VoLTE is activated, and disable it completely.
Also, using the hidden menu, switching to GSM only will not stick. It somehow switches back to GSM/LTE on its own.

We haven't gone yet, but I am going to request a secure element sim card and have them look at VoLTE.
Even the AT&T forum users have the same problem.
https://forums.att.com/t5/Samsung-D...ropping-calls-and-losing-network/td-p/4197338
Edit: swapped the sim card with a new one, and it still drops the call. AT&T is saying that disabling VoLTE would permanently drop phone calls. I call BS, but who knows.
Edit 2: got off the phone with a knowledgeable AT&T tech. Told him that I rolled back to the NIE firmware, eliminating all traces of HD voice/VoLTE. He remoted into the phone to see it too. Confirmed that we are not in a VoLTE area, and that VoLTE is not active on the account. He also agrees that VoLTE is immature and buggy, and that the backbone needs to be mature and up to date before launching.
If it would drop calls again, we would have to call back immediately so they can see it in the system as it happens.

Well it's obviously not an across the board thing or everyone would be having the issue. I suspect it's probably a bad radio in the phone. I would definitely have them swap the sim and phone as well as look at the account to make sure all the correct a count codes are present. And disabling VoLTE is definitely a good idea

^^^^^^^ seems like something wrong with hardware.

Looks like it might have to be swapped out for a new Note 4 then. 6+ would be the route to go to after all of this, but I don't believe in sweeping the problem under the rug.
Big fail on Samsung on QC. Even the rep at the AT&T store flat out told me that she believes Samsung makes their product only last two years before they start to break apart or have problems. Sure, there may be a few lemons with any product, but I don't even know how this particular unit passed QC.
Edit: AT&T Device Support Center has authorized an order for a new Note 4 that will ship in 1-2 days. Representative also has a Note 4, a launch model, and has not experienced any dropped calls or loss of signal.

New unit is now displaying Out of Service Area and dropping signal when calling. Two lemons? I have it recorded on my phone showing when it drops.
Sim card is not a problem. I have tested it in my HTC One, and it did not drop at all. Using my sim card in the Note 4 dropped a voicemail call after a minute.

AT&T submitted a case ticket to us. It was completed and it was complete BS. They wanted us to get a microcell, but that won't fix anything if the phone can't hold a call in the first place. Now we're getting a THIRD unit.

I have same problem with my note 4. It's the same slec. I live in the UK usingthe Three network. What shall I do??

Tmobile Note 2 no network circle crossed out

Hi and thanks for any help that you can provide me.
I bought an Galaxy Note 2 SGH-T889 Tmobile version like 7 months ago from a store or reseller in Toronto Canada, the phone was in theory factory unlock, to use with the Wnmobile network which uses the same frequency as Tmobile. The phone was working until 2 days ago. Well always the phone has issue connecting to the network in some specific areas, specially because the Wind network it's not that good, but during the last 2 weeks I noticed more and more problems and some times it was just disconnected showing a circle with an slash or crossed out. After reboot the phone usually fixed the problem, until 2 days ago I had to do it every 2 hours and then the next day it just was permanent. I tried everything so far:
Remove battery and reboot
Remove battery and SIM card and reboot
Use a diiferent SIM card from my son's phone
Replace for a new SIM card
Clear Cache
Factory Reset
Reflash the modem with Odin
The phone has the latest stock ROM 4.1.2, BASE T889UVBMD1
The problem is Samsung say because it's a Tmobile they can not support it here, I have to send the phone to Samsung USA, I still fighting with the store because they said it will be covered locally, but that is another story.
I red many post talking about similar problems with the Galaxy S3 or S4 and one said that installing Jedi X14 fixed the problem, but to do that I think I have to root the phone, which not be a big problem.
The other weird thing is the phone works using other SIM card GSM, not tested with a LTE SIM.
There is any way to test if the radio/antenna for the WCMDA is disabled or broken
Thanks

If the phone is working fine with a friends sim card . There is nothing more then a issue with your sim. go to the store and have them to give you a new sim card or flash the one you have. I had that issue similar here with at&t all the time.. sims would just loose network.. The fix for me LEAVE AT&T
Good luck.
Yes, I replaced the SIM card and I got a new one.
Just trying to eliminate all the options, I just did a factory reset again, and put it back the SIM card, located outside in an area where I know there is a strong signal and the phone was able to connect to the network and I install the account ans the apps just to test the data connection and it works fine. I was outside for 20 minutes with no problem. Later go back in the building, as soon I was inside for a few minutes the phone lose connection and the circle is back, then reboot again several times, and the phone does not recognize any network, Searching and no network is available.
Aww you left out that it only does this inside but works outside.. I Would say something is blocking the signal. LIKE maybe the building..
i have two bars in my house 3 on the deck and full signal in my yard ...
its just how it is..

But he said it was working in side for many month then all a sudden it doesn't work? I understand I live in a mobile home and reception sucks but that from the start but his was working for couple months. I would say he's phone reception receiver w/e it is or something in the phone is screwing up and it will need repairment or replace or service just taking a dump and getting worse.

You could be right.. or maybe even the provider having issues with that tower .. its a tough thing to figure out..
Thanks for your ideas.
I get tired of trying to figure out was is the problem, so I got a SIM card from a diiferent provider which has the best network coverage and power, and i'ts happending the same, the majority of th etime the strength level is around -110 db even outside, with both providers, so it's the phone.
Now the question is could be possible that the antenna cable got disconnected or broken, (yes I dropped the phone a few times but nothing major) and it was working fine until few days ago. Another option it's some internal hardware is not working normally.
Now I have to find a way to repair becasue Samsung Canada does not want to do it becasue its a Tmobile phone.
Thanks, again.

Anybody with same provider as you? Invite them in you're home see if they have connection. It's best if the person have same phone and same company. Can you send directly to Samsung? I have bad phone service my area with s2 and note 2 but my friend with evo 3d has more bar then me and its made by htc but could be two things ur phone crapping out on you which need repairment or like the guy above said tower signal getting weaker. It is hard to find out. Maybe for now for a bit since it's screw up try a rom but then again rom doesn't control radio settings section but wouldn't harm. Good luck.
I'm having the same issue since last month... but with any SIM card.
The network signal strengh rests between -89 to -110 dBm. (Horrible)
The network type is always UNKNOWN:0.
What I already tried:
- Using other SIM.
- Flashing Stock ROM
- Flashing Custom ROM (CM 10.1)
- Flashing all 5 avaliable modems.
What happens:
When I get VERY close to a network antenna... I can make calls and stuff...
What can be happening:
Hardware issues - T-Mobile latest LTE unlocking update maybe burned my antenna (or some network signal related hardware).
Software issues - Can't see how since I used many variations of ROM/Modem.
I live in Brazil and my network is TIM 47. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note II T889.
If anyone can confirm perfectly to me what composes the T889 antenna components... that would be nice...
I want to buy those parts from eBay and trying fixing my phone.
Thanks for your feedback it's really valuable becasue it's almost the same situation. Today I cleared up the situation with Samsung, if I want to be service under the warranty I have to bring the phone to one of repair centres in USA which it's kind of problem because I can do it only in the weekends but not impossible or what I'm doing tomorrow is to have an assessment by one of the repair centres in Toronto and I have to pay in this case, if it's something reasonable.
In my case I did not update the phone in 2 months at least so it's not software in my case, but one difference could be I got a new job 3 months ago, in my previous job the majority of the time I got 5 bars , I guess the cell tower was close to that place, and in my house the coverage it's good. In my new job, my office it's in the middle of the building, far from the windows, so the signal always was really bad, 0-1 bar.
Wondering if could be possible that a bad connection can burn the antenna or the circuit that controls the connection.
The other thing is there are many customers specially for the Galay S4 complaining about a similar problem, and I did not find any answer on how to fix this problem.
I'll post any update just in case it can help someone else.
Thanks.

A also have this problem with T-Mobile Note 2 and have already tried everything you guys have...I guess I got no choice but to request a replacement which sucks because my phone was pristine and worked perfectly otherwise. It's just the damn weak to no signal that's driving me crazy. Especially since I'm paying for premium data coverage and it's pretty much money in the trash every month.
That's it. I made the call and the replacement arrives in a couple days. They offered me the "jump" program. Anyone on that? Is that worth doing on T-Mobile?
I traded an unlocked i317m for a g pro. I just picked up a unlocked t889 as welll. The person with my old i317m want my t889 since hes using simple mobile. Problem is when I went to trade I put his sim in my t899 it wont register on tmobile. Seems its only working with at&t as thats the service I have. Now with the i317m I gave him originally it works with any sim. How is this possible that a unlocked tmobile t889 wont register with his sim on tmobile network but the unlocked i317m works with any sim?
Yesterday I replaced the microUSB module that is connected with the antenna and replaced the SIM card module too.
That did NOT worked.
So... the problems is problably on the mainboard/chipset... too expensive to fix.
Another big hardware failure for Samsung's history.
I've had the replacement for about a week now. So far no signal problems. It's like when I first got my original phone. I'm sticking with the note 2 for at least another 6 months since I joined the jump program. Can't wait to see the note 3 next week
Update just to close this case
Well, after I sent the phone for repair to Samsung USA, I got it back and the problems happened again after a few days, then I sent it back for the second time to Samsung, got it back and the problem happened again after a few weeks. Basically, I'm getting rid of this phone, now the warranty is already expired and half of the time the phone was full of problems with the network.
The lesson in this case is to avoid getting hardware from the first batch (to wait a few months after the launch) or without a long term warranty (3 years), and probably will be my last Samsung device.

Can't Access T-Mobile Network

Woke up this morning and have not been able to access the T-Mobile network. No changes have been made that should have impacted the ability to connect. Greatly apprecaite any help.
If you made no changes then it's either your phone or the TMO system.
Sent from my LG-D851 using Tapatalk
Well first, obviously, did you try rebooting your phone? Push into Airplane Mode and back?
Second, how is it not connecting to the T-Mobile network? No data connections? Or voice calls? Not connecting to the network at all?
Did you check your APN?
Can't really offer help if there is no accurate description of the problem at hand.
And finally, if you can gain access to post on XDA, why not contact T-Mobile themselves? As I'm pretty sure they can help you far better than many of us here with this issue of network connectivity. :silly:
Just sayin'.
I have the same issue. After a few days of getting brand new phone the data connection is messed up
Thinking of returning and getting S5
Call tmobile and have them refresh you problem solved
I went back to T mobile store. They asked me to wait 3 days. Refresh didn't help

Call up 611 on the phone (if possible) and say "Clear Location", that automatically clears out your phone connections and details (not your personal data) and resets the connections with the towers/antennas. You might need to speak with a rep or tech support to get that request, but they always do it if asked.
If you can't use the phone in question, call from another phone using 1-877-453-1304 and just give them your T-Mobile phone number in question and request the same.
Clear Location updates where your phone is being used and has it renegotiate its protocols, handshakes and talk, it essentially has your phone act like when it first booted up out of the box and was activated with T-Mobile.
I don't understand how the T-Mobile store didn't just perform that request/task with you when you were there....
They did do that and it worked in the store. But problem resumed when i got home

I would try the Clear Location again, just to see if it would fix it, if it doesn't, I would ask for a device swap in store to see if it works and holds.
It might be your account provisioning, but it was working fine then didn't, so it's most likely on T-Mobile's side. You can wait it out and when and if it works again, call up and request a credit to your account for the loss of service.
It seems to be your data isn't working at all but voice is, so you can check your Mobile settings and see if the APN is set to fast.t-mobile.com with IPv6.
Im going back today and swap for new phone. Im not sure if it was always working. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't
When i first got the phone i went straight home and used wifi. I only noticed it 3 days later when i was outside. It was after that, that I started monitoring the problem
I get the 4G icons but little data coming thru
Yeah, I would try a device swap and see if that corrects the issue, since it seems the data reset isn't.
BTW, the 4G icon is for 3G+ (HSPA), which is slower than the actual LTE speeds. If you get LTE speeds, the phone will display "4G LTE."
I just swapped the phone and new phone works as it should. In the store the TMo employee had a G3 and we compared Ookla Speedtest. Mine was definitely not working like his.
I hope this new phone won't have a problem. They only waive restocking once. I was ginna swap for S5 but decided to stick w G3 for the screen

That's good to hear that you finally got it to work fine.
Also, in regards to the restocking fee, it is waived if the device is defective. They should not be charging it when the device is broken, defective or not working as it should. The restocking fee is for those who just don't like their device and want to swap out for another one.
You might have to fight with them about it a bit, but no restocking fees on defective devices.

[Q] Drops off network suggestions? -Samsung Note 2 - Wind mobile SGH 889v

So for the past year or so I've seen instances where my phone shows 5 bars and data, however calls go to my voicemail. I find out when I do something with the phone that forces it to rejoin the network.
I've got a 3rd party number that my enterphone uses, that number rings both my wife's phone and my phone at the same time. However very often only her phone rings, both of us appear to have good signals.
It seems that my phone is falling off the network but not showing this fact. If I switch to and from airplane mode it seems to regain network, or if I try to make a call it will fail the first time but work afterwards.
Any suggestion? I already installed Cyanogen about a month back hoping that this would resolve the problem, however it didn't have any impact. Same problems as before...
I'm wondering if flashing the radio would help, if so which files should I use?
I actually gave up on this phone and ordered a oneplus one, however that one arrived completely broken so now I'm stuck with the note 2 until that RMA gets approved or I get frustrated and just buy another phone.
Thanks in advance.

Verzion note 7 activation, switch

I am heading to New York in early December for a few days. I have a Note 7 as my primary phone. I know i cannot take it with me on an airplane.
I was considering switching to another device but am afraid that when i go to switch back, it won't work.
Another idea is that on the Verizon webpage it has the option to let you switch phones between lines on your account. I could switch phones for the few days and switch back afterwards... but the same thing... will it not work when i attempt to switch?
Has anyone with Verizon as their carrier tried this or something similar?
thanks
p.s. This post is not an invitation to the haters and trolls who comment worthless things about turning the phone in. Go back to your safe spaces... the grown ups are talking

You can switch the SIM back and forth. As long as the IMEI on the Note 7 is not blacklisted it will work. I still have my Note 7 and I got an LG V20 and my SIM is in my LG G3 and I can switch between them all no problem.
Don't you have to call in to have them activated every time you change to a different phone?

I also thought you had to call in to Verizon. SIM switching without calling would make it a whole new ball game. I would have been afraid you'd never get it reactivated if taken out of service at all.
Just sim switch and let it complete it's provisioning steps. You only need to call if there is an issue with the 4g sim not provisioning. Then they can add it on manually. Ill be doing that with my n4 when traveling.

I was under the impression that any time you moved a sim from one phone to another you had to call Verizon for them to activate the sim on the phone you switched to. Pretty sure I am not the only one who thought this. If you can just swap the sim between phones, well of course this would be nice and make keeping the N7 as a daily driver and switch to a different phone when flying or travelling doable.

Well Im in canada and no such BS exists here...that sounds completely unreasonable though
I'm experiencing the SAME issue. Yesterday there was a snow storm here in NY and while I was playing games on my note 7 out of nowhere my data went out. I checked through "Mobile Data" settings to ensure it's on, toggled airplane mode, restarted, even pulled the sim and put it in my Note 5 but I'm experiencing the same issue.
My next step was one of two options:
A) I call verizon to re-activate my Note 5 with my SIM I swapped in from the Note 7 (but i'm afraid they'll recognize I still have my "refunded" Note 7.
B) Edit the APN Network information cuz .... idk I was trying "everything"
But, as teegunn said, I have to call Verizon to have them switch my account to my note 5. I checked their website and it wont let me do it through there, it says to call.
Anyone ever figured out if we can swap here in the US without an issue?
I love my note 7 too much to let it go....

I was hotlined (for the first time) on the 30th... it took multiple online chats, phone calls, and ultimately a trip to the nearest Verizon store to get a new sim card (they had cut service to both my Note7 sim and my Note 4 sim) to get up and running on my old Note 4. I waited a few days and, borrowing some confidence from @tricktaylor, used Verizon's online portal to reactivate my Note7, with the original sim card, like it was any other device.
I was hotlined again last night (at least, that's when I noticed it) and all it took was a quick online chat this morning to switch service back to my Note 4. I'll wait a few days before trying to reactive my Note7 unless someone reports back, in the interim, that the wait-time is unnecessary.
Im literally switching to N4 right now. Hope all goes well. I said I'm returning the N7 but i have no plans to. I don't know when I'll be switching back to N7, I don't want to go through this once a week. But at some point they'll have to give up and at this point I'll wait them out for spite.

Im back to n4... for the time being but I'm sure there's nothing stopping from switching back to N7 right now. At some point they will have to stop doing these imei checks. Stay strong they'll quit or someone smarter than I will come up with a solution on our side...
Screw it.
I'm impatient. I trimmed my Note 4 micro sim down to a nano sim. I'm popping it into my Note7. And...
IT'S ALIVE!
I gotta try that. I'm scared to cut mine. dont they still see its an imei of a n7?
I switch my VZW sim to at least 5 different phones including the Note 7 and never had to call it in and it just works.

It appears as though they're not actively monitoring which devices are being used or activated, they are just conducting sporadic sweeps to temporally deactivate SIM cards presently used in conjunction with Note7's. Once the SIM is activated with a different device, or once the Note7 is activated with a different SIM, you're good to go.
Sent from my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 7 using XDA Labs
So last I updated this I ordered a free sim from Verizon for my n7. They sent it I piped it in and it's working.

Question Using an eSim without a physical Sim on AT&T

Hi, I'm trying to use an eSim only (without inserting a physical sim) on my pixel 6 pro on AT&T, however I cannot get it to work. When I say not get it to work, I mean with eSim only there is no cell signal and no data signal. Physical sim works fine on both signal and cellular service. If there's another Us AT&T pixel 6 pro user who's using only the eSIM for service please respond and let me know whether or not eSim only works for you. Thanks.
Not an AT&T user here, am using a European carrier, just from anecdotal perspective: I also use eSim only and never had an issue on my P6 Pro. So it appears to be something carrier related.
I remember that I had to activate my eSim, maybe you also have to do this? Did you try out the eSim/your contract before using this phone?

Yes, I tried 3 times with the help of AT&T and we couldn't get it to work. I'm going to return the device for a new replacement to see if that fixes this issue. Thanks for replying.

Before going through the hassle of returning the device for a potential fault - do you have a family member or friend, whose simcard/esim you could try out? That way you can find out if your phone truly has a defect or if its your contract/the specific esim. Of course you can always let them replace your device, but that will take a couple days, maybe there are faster ways to narrow the problem down.

i tried again today at another AT&T corp store and walked out of the store with it working as expected (wait till the end). the person helping did additional research on my issue and discovered the P6P shipped to me "was not activated" with the inserted physical sim (which i removed when i received the device). apparently, AT&T will park (or associate) a new device with a specific number when shipping to you vs. walking in to buy a device on an existing line. nonetheless, i'm going to return the phone because the data connection isn't working consistently; data is on and then after i go to website, data turns off. i'm probably going to send it back to AT&T next week.
Finally got the phone working, but will get an unlocked version later; this one is still going back to ATT.
I'm using an ESIM on AT&t and even originally got the phone My plan was to have a physical TracFone SIM card and my AT&t esim which is exactly what I had on my Pixel 5 and it worked great. Both SIM cards work great... when the other ones not active or inserted. It is impossible to use with both SIM cards like I did on my Pixel 5. Constant signal loss and the majority of the time. No signal at all. But as soon as I deactivate or remove a SIM card it starts working perfect.
I had a problem with provisioning eSim on my TMobile, well technically its sprint still, says tmobile esim but I am on sprint billing. Anyways, you need to maybe try to do it on another WiFi access point or something. I had issues with mine activating over Viasat2 satellite internet. I live in that area, its either LTE or satellite for internet. Had to tether to my work verizon phone to activate it on sprint/tmobile lol. If the connectivity to the esim server is not great, you'll split hairs until it is.

Exactly the same issue/behavior I had with my AT&T P6P on the AT&T network so I returned mine today. I'm contemplating a Fi version to see if it works for my use case.
