[Q] Thinking of buying a Galaxy Tab S,need some info. - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello folks, the time has come for me to replace my Nexus 7(2012) and i'm thinking of getting a 8.4 inch Tab S.
.Since i'm used to Nexus' unlockable bootloader, and not having a Samsung device since Galaxy II,i'd like some info regarding rooting and generally tampering with this device
.Do you lose your warranty if you root this?Or is there any trick like "triangle away" was back in the S2 days..?
Furthermore,do you think this device is a good choice? In my country i find the 16GB variant around 280 Euros, and i can't seem to find anything remotely good for that price..
Lastly, how does the device perform with custom roms?I really hate Touchwiz UI.. :S
Thanks in advance for the help

The bootloader is unlocked on my Tab S 8.4 WiFi only model, not sure about the LTE version if you get it through a carrier like AT&T or Verizon.
As far as rooting goes, super easy with CF Auto Root. Thank You Chainfire. And yes, you will lose your warranty as rooting will trip the knox flag and there's no way of undoing it with Triangle away or any other method.
I haven't tried any custom ROMS yet, but I'm happy with the performance after I debloated it and I'm using Nova Launcher instead of Touchwiz.
Also just to let you know, most of the system files are Odex. Not sure if that matters to you.

That was all i needed to know, thanks for the reply !!

Things to consider!

Hi guys I have my galaxy S4 close to a year now and now that I paid off the phone and now im ready to rootand do the whole 9 yards.
So I used to have a htc sensation before and I remember it needed to be s-off in order to gain root access, so does this also applies to my s4 or is rhat just aplicable to htc phone?
Now let me give you guys my specs:
T-mo us SGS4.
Stock rom, untouched.
Stupid knox installed.
Kit kat 4.4.2
Baseband: M919uvufnb4
Secure boot status: Samsung
Device status: official.
So I read that knox trips up and correct me if im wrong it lets samsung knows or something like that so you cant claim for warranty purposes????whats the best custkm recovery for the s4? Cwm or twrp?
So I wanna do:
1. Root
2. Install custom recovery
3. Remove tmo and samsung bloat. (Does anyone know which are safe apps to remove and where to remove them from?)
4. At the end of the day have a fully working S4 rooted with less junk in it.
As I think of more stuff to do I will post, or if you guys have better ideas, steps, or anything just let me know. All your help will be greatly appreciated.

S-Off is an HTC thing. It doesn't apply to Samsung devices.
Knox will be tripped and they COULD prevent you from filing a warrenty claim. But that hasn't been a big deal so far and your phone is outside of warrenty anyway it sounds like.
Search for CF Auto Root. It makes rooting this a really simple 30 second process. (No downgrading firmware and all that jazz that you did on your Sensation using PM5110IMG files or whatever they were called.)
Custom recovery flashes in seconds as well.
You'll have to decide for yourself if you like CWM or TWRP. We don't allow discussions on XDA about 'which is better'. Both have their advantages. It depends on which you like best for your use.
There is a list of 'safe to delete' bloatware around here somewhere. The search feature will help you find it. But you can also just make a Nandroid backup first and delete whatever teh hell you want. If you break it, just restore.

Just a comment on CWM. I tend to use it more but had issues flashing multiple ROMS with it, kept getting an error about "4 arguments accepted, received 5" when it was partitioning. In the M919 developers forum someone recommended TWRP and that did the trick for me. I don't know if its KitKat or s4 related but for now I'd suggest TWRP, CWM has not been working for me.
Thanks bro ill keep that in mind

[Q] Galaxy tab 3 warranty

Hi,
I've pretty much used a S4 before this, recently got a free Tab 3.70 and it was so slow that i need to change the firmware and root it.
I'm wondering or it seems to be there is no Knox for the Galaxy Tab 3.7.0? (T210 variant). So it means my warranty won't be void right? But I've also read that the Triangle Away does not support the Tab 3, does this mean that if i root/load a custom rom and kernel, I won't be able to flash away the counter to get warranty still?
Finally, for S4, some important things to note were the CSC/PDA/Firmware of your device, but without a Phone dialer, how does one go about doing this and is it necessary to take these details down for the Tab in order to go back to its original state?
I have recently bought a Tab 3 8" and would also like to know will i be able to keep my warranty if i root it. I am currently at 4.2.2 and i'm not interested in flashing another ROM, just gaining root. Is there a completely reversable way to do this?
Same question for P5220 (Tab 3 10.1 Wifi+LTE)
Warranty will be void if your device is rooted, and yes there is a way you can get it back restored unrooted. Just go to your device size thread and find the right one. Hope this helps.

Feedback about this Knox bit? Should I worry?

Just now, first time reading about this Knox bit. I just this morning purchased from Best Buy a Galaxy Tab S 8.4" tablet. Going to old habits, I immediately look to a rooting method, and what some of the more popular ROMs are. But just curious on feedback, should I be worried about this Knox bit? If I ever have to return to stuck for a warranty claim, are they immediately able to tell that bit has been flipped? Does flipping the bit really lead to potential overheating and other issues?
Thoughts?
Well.. Someone claimed that they got warrenty repaired even if knox was tripped. And it was a power button defect. And someone else said that they still had to pay since they tripped knox.
So its a 50/50 chance that samsung will repair your tab s if knox is tripped. I too was worried. Rooted and tripped knox and had no hardbricks so far. Twrp and odin saves me from softbricks but odin can fail sometimes.
To answer your question: knox being tripped doesnt do anything it just trips an efuse and say that knox is tripped. It doesnt overheat or nothing. If you return it for warrenty claim they can tell if it was tripped. Some may not check some do. Hope this helps!
That does help, thank you!!!
I have two more questions:
1) If I have a hardware failure I can't fix myself, can I still pay to have it fixed by an authorized Samsung person? I understand it just wouldn't be covered under warranty.
2) It's not clear to me if it's tripped on whatever rooting changes (guessing so), or if it's when ROMs are loaded. Assuming it's rooting (which must typically bring new kernel?), does anything thing there's a chance that if we hold out that someone will find a rooting method that won't trip it. I stumbled across the Galaxy Tab Pro section and I see they claim to have a rooting method that doesn't trip the bit. So wondering if I suffer without root for a while if we might see such a thin here? Mind you, I know no one is a fortune teller.

1. If they check you tripped knox and denied your warranty claim, I belive they will ask you the option to pay for the fix. Though I cant be sure as thats what I heard but im pretty sure.
2. Well cfautoroot flashes root and reverts your recovery back to stock. Um.. With the towelroot method of not tripping knox... For the tab pro you downgrade your kernel/build. Though no one has tried downgrading their kernel to like a build before towelroot was patched for the tab s.. I dont know if it will work for the tab s.
I dont even know if we will see a universal root like towelroot. Geohotz is working for google and isnt updating towelroot for newer devices. But there is a huge bounty for rooting the note4 or something like that. But the chances of it working for other devices are pretty low. Hope this helps!

Please help newbie t805

Hi guys
Just bought a t805 and loving it atm. Few questions if anyone can help:
1. its a t805 but its got a octacore 5420 chip does that make a difference if I wnt to install custom recoveries/roms should I install for the t805 or t800?
2. Are there any good roms for battery and speed on the t805 worth flashing?, reason being don't want to trip know if theres nothing better than stock.
3. Any good tips for battery and speed if not?
4. Are there any fast chargers out there that are compatible i.e the charger that comes with the s6?
5. If I root without tripping knox can I get rid of all the bloatware that's installed my rom is T805XXU1BOC1?
6. Finally would love to make use of the sd card for more app installation any way of doing this.
Guys I appreciate that all this info is most probably in the threads but in all honesty came onto this tab quite late so will involve loads of reading and asking loads of questions so any help is really appreciated.
Many thanks
Mav
Well without trying not to come across as rude, by your own admission everything you have asked has been pretty much answered countless times.
All you need do is use the search button above.
Search and ye will be enlightened.
Welcome to the forum.

All tab s models apart from like two minor USA variants are exynos so there is choice. Install t805 only as t800 will either not work or lose 3g.
2. Are there any good roms for battery and speed on the t805 worth flashing?, reason being don't want to trip know if theres nothing better than stock.
Iron rom is good but stock lollipop is great in my opinion.
3. Any good tips for battery and speed if not?
Remove all crap and I use clean master to keep the junk off.
4. Are there any fast chargers out there that are compatible i.e the charger that comes with the s6?
The charger it comes with us 2amp and is as fast as it gets.
5. If I root without tripping knox can I get rid of all the bloatware that's installed my rom is T805XXU1BOC1?
Yes you can remove bloat - be careful otherwise can break android.
6. Finally would love to make use of the sd card for more app installation any way of doing this.
Can move apps to SD without root but with can move them better.

So basically in your opinion is ironrom worth tripping knox?, reason being I have used custom rom for years and in all honesty things have either improved slightly or basically had bugs, it was fine when you could just revert to originalrom if warranty issues occurred but with knox tripped I think Samsung wont fix.
So option b would be to root and and at least you can make use of the sd without tripping knox, also all the bloatware can be cleaned with clean master, or do you have to do it through titanium backup?
Thanks again
I wouldn't bother tripping Knox. I have kept mine stock since I got it last year. Very stable and quick. I would only root if not happy with performance. Did yours come with lollipop or did you upgrade? A factory reset made mine so quick. Clean master is a no root junk cleaner I keep running.
Samsung will still fix if you have problem in first 2 years with Knox tripped in the UK.
Thanks for the reply, basically just bought from ebay and it didn't come with a receipt or box so was thinking what the hell lets just root, custom recovery and custom rom, but since coming on here and reading up there doesn't seem to be as many roms as I expected and even less for the t805 so really considering if its worth it, obviously if speed and battery is improved then yes all the way hence why I was asking about the roms just general experience, I think with ironrom you can oc so that should make things a little smoother too maybe even increase battery. Didn't know that about Samsung, my experience with them and my s4, s5 haven't been good in all honesty. My Dads got one too but he bought his from pc world with receipt so hes def not rooting etc, although I believe there is a no knox root method.
What are people going for mostly with recovery twrp or cwr? for reliability
thanks

G925T Do's and Don't's

Hey guys! I've been rooting and flashing phones for a while now, however this is going to be my first Samsung device and it seems like the rooting proccess is different. Just ordered one off of eBay and it's coming in some time next week.
I've been searching and reading countless threads on how to root and flash the S6 Edge, but still wanted to know all the do's and don't's when flashing the phone.
First thing I want to do is obviously root the phone when I get it. I don't know which s/w version it will come with, so what will be the easiest method to root the phone?
From what I've read, flashing a custom recovery such as TWRP will trip KNOX. Besides that, what else can trip it?
Also, it looks like flashing a custom kernel is required to root the phone. On the LG G3, for example, I could just flash a SuperSU zip from recovery to root the phone. Does it not work like that with this phone?
Thank you for your help.
Lastest 5.1.1 requires custom kernel to root. If the phone comes with 5.0.2, imo, do not upgrade, use ping pong root (google it) to keep warranty.

Seconded. From what I understand, there's no way to root and keep KNOX untripped and have your fingerprnt scanner work on 5.1.1. You either have a tripped KNOX or a broken fingerprint scanner. If you're on 5.1.1 and dont care about KNOX (I don't) I recommend UniKernel to root. I've found it helps a lot with battery life, especially when paired with XstreStoLite ROM.
Samsung Pay will be broken too.
I have UniBase on my Rooted S6 Edge. I have had no improvements on battery. I have to charge it atleast twice a day. Which is okay, But rather annoying when in the middle of a conversation and have to either charge it or it dies.

Try XstreStoLite 2.4. It comes with UniKernel v9 and that combo has done wonders for my standby battery life. Under use, the battery life is about the same, but standby has increaded drastically.
Don't root until you're sure you won't need Samsung's repair service.
Use it a lot and stress it to the limits with hardcore games to find out if your S6e gets the blocky screen disorder or 8bit graphics corruption problem. Mine goes 8bit when it's cold outside or when games heat up the SoC so it's going in for repairs.
