I have a strange issue on my stock HTC One M8 (unlocked) which has been converted to a GPe using the tools on here.
I am running vanilla, OTA-pushed 5.0.1, and everything works great apart from the audio. If my phone has been on for a period of time, when I make or receive calls there is no audio through the speaker or earpiece, and the phone doesn't ring like it should.
I didn't have this problem with 4.4.4 before the 5.0.1 OTA update, so it feels like a Lollipop issue or some hardware that's malfunctioned.
My volume settings are fine (ALL profile, max. volume for ringer).
When this happens, the only way I can make or receive calls with any audio is to reboot the phone. I've tried airplane mode, fiddling with sound settings... *everything* I can think of... but a reboot is the only thing that solves it.
Does anyone else have this problem or know what the solution may be?
Thanks in advance
Have you tried a factory reset? Random bugs like this are often (although not always) due to pre-existing settings or apps, and may be resolved by doing a factory reset. If experiencing bugs after an OTA, its the first thing I recommend.

Howdy all,
The other day my other halfs' Wildfires' speaker decided to stop working for no reason. Can still make phonecalls etc, and the headphones work, but its like its stuck on silent all the time!
Read somewhere it could be to do with a recently installed app, so factory reset it but no change. Also saw it could be something to do with something in the headphone socket not clicking back properly when they are removed, but she's never used the headphones, but tried that anyway, still with no luck.
Never been flashed or anything, totally standard.
Any ideas?
Many thanks, Tarq

Perhaps it is me, but what do you mean by this?
1. You cannot go out of silent mode in terms of "set phone volume to vibrate or noice" by using the volume buttons. In that case:
- make sure that your volume buttons work (by using them to regulate audio of, for example, your radio).
- try if you can solve the problem by going into "options of your phone - sound".
If they do not work, try to flash a ruu. If still not solved, I'm afraid you should open your phone to see if the connectors of the volume buttons are still in place (i've had this with my previous phone). But perhaps wait for other advice before doing so
2. You can get out of the silent ringer mode, but still the phone doesnt make any noice. My best guess then is that it related to software in the system folder which controls your device at the system level, or perhaps with the kernel?
I do not know if the the systemfolder is restored when you do a factory reset..
It couldn't do harm if you flash a ruu in my opinion. The all software related issues are ruled out then.
It can't be the hardware as you can still hear people talking to you while phoning without headset. Nor can it be a messed up jack-in, as all the sound should be transfered to the headphone, and it shouldn't be possible to call and here people without headset.
To summerize: I think it is still software, and that it should be possible to solve it by flashing a kernel or restoring bynusing a RUU.

I havent been able to figure this problem out, I think my phones mic is bad.
VERY low volume. When I call people, they can barely hear me, but I can hear them perfectly. I have confirmed this by calling my other phone, I can barely hear my voice coming from the one V
I have tried rooting, rom'ing, and different kernels. What actually controls the mic? Should I try a radio update?
If there isn't an obvious answer, I think I'll try sending it in. Its only 7 months old, and HTC just fixed another One V i have that was bricked. I have also tested the same software on my other one V and the mic works perfectly...
really weird, because its just very quiet even though it technically works...
edit- the one v thats not working has a radio of 1.00.00.0521_2
and the one v i have that works fine is radio 1.00.00.0928
otherwise, everything else about the two phones is the same. hboot 1.53.0000
edit- before everyone posts like crazy trying to help me (har har), i am rru'ing back to stock, then doing an ota update to try to push to the new radio. i will see if that fixes the mic, and if not, im sending it back to htc!
ugh! partial success! :/
So after the rru, the phone took 3 different OTA updates. Then I tried calls again. I use groove ip, and on default settings my other One V works great. Again, the mic on this phone ive been working on is too quiet! BUT I do notice a slight increase in the volume.
So I went into settings for groove ip and maxed out the mic gain- and it worked pretty well! Its not quite as loud as my other one v with default settings, but it does work seemingly good enough.
So weird! I already tried cleaning the mic with contact cleaner, and even taking the rubber block out. What sucks is now, do I send this to htc anyway? I have a feeling they will tell me it works so they won't know what to do...
Ill update if anything changes...
Fixed.
Sent the phone into HTC. Not sure what they did, it didn't seem like much. But the mic works properly.
I go to install a custom rom, and mic is f'd up again! Restored the backup I made, and the mic works properly again. My other OneV doesnt have this happen with the same custom rom installed :/ The mic actually works, but what I think it is- it's stuck in speaker phone mode. It doesnt matter if your right on the mic or across the room, it sounds the same. Not very loud with lots of background noise.
So, basically, I have to leave this phone with the stock rom I suppose. If I can overclock it I'll be happy. Just so weird why my other phone doesn't have this issue after flashing to custom roms...
Hello to everyone.
After testing one custom ROM (Carbon) and while everything was fine, suddenly one afternoon the in-call volume lowered very much, so that I can't hear in a noisy environment. I don't know if the problem was caused by the ROM, I just tell the history. Then, I tried 2-3 other custom ROMs hoping that the problem will be solved, but nothing happened. Finally I got back to the stock ROM 4.1.2, (full wipe, data, cache etc. everything) having the same hope. But unfortunately, again nothing happened. I have also tried various volume control apps, but can't restore the max in-call sound.
In stock ROM, I checked the earphone in the service tests and the sound seems perfect, so i assume that it is not a hardware problem, but I cant be sure. Is there any possibility that this is a software problem? Does anybody have in mind any solution or idea to try? I checked 2 threads for a similar problem, but couldn't find any.
i have the same problem in call volume is too low for me
I just update and wipe to 4.4.2 and the mic is not working on my phone....
I am having the same issue. The mic was completely functional before the update, and now it barely works and only when there are really loud noises on speaker phone. I went to get some help for this, and I was told that "this isn't something that would be caused by the update" and that I should do a factory reset. I have yet to do this, I am having issues doing a backup.
I faced intermittent mic issue since 4.3.
I've been on 4.4.2 since last week but today is the first time I try the MIC. It doesn't work at all, it was working fine before the update... And doing a factory reset doesn't change anything.
I have the same issue since updating to 4.4.3.
Unless I talk really loud, the person on the other side on the phone has trouble hearing me...
I had the same issue, I had to send my phone back to where I bought it and they repaired it for free.
They had to change some parts to make it work so it looks like it was hardware related.
I got my phone back after around 4 days, now my Microphone works perfectly fine again.
Just got my Verizon G3 yesterday. I have it rooted and have Xposed and G3 Tweaksbox. I don't think I froze anything that would have to do with the mic/speakerphone.
When my speaker is on, my mic doesn't work.
Mic works fine otherwise, so it can't be a hardware issue.
Any ideas?
I disabled all xposed modules and unfroze all apps and same thing.
Can someone confirm they don't have this issue on a Verizon phone?
I really don't want to factory reset already.
Could someone just test this out and let me know if you don't have the issue?
Just make a call, turn on the speaker and see if the party on the other end can hear you talking.
Be best if it's someone with a Verizon phone.
If it works for someone else on Verizon, I guess I'll go with the factory reset. The phone has only been out a few days, I guess it's possible it's a bug and I'm just the first person who noticed it, but I doubt it.
I did a factory reset and it's still not working.
I did take off my case and now there's some audio, but it's all a low static. I call a vm I have and start talking with speaker off and it's fine, then I turn speaker on and I get all static and hissing and can't hear myself at all.
I don't see how it could be hardware, but I guess it's possible. Sure seems like a system bug, but someone in the Verizon forum reported it's working, so I guess not.
Flashed back to factory image and same problem.
I guess it's my hardware.
Replaced phone today and all is good. I guess defective hardware.
It must have a different mic for when using speakerphone vs when not.
