Mic Doesn't Work When Speaker On - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got my Verizon G3 yesterday. I have it rooted and have Xposed and G3 Tweaksbox. I don't think I froze anything that would have to do with the mic/speakerphone.
When my speaker is on, my mic doesn't work.
Mic works fine otherwise, so it can't be a hardware issue.
Any ideas?

I disabled all xposed modules and unfroze all apps and same thing.
Can someone confirm they don't have this issue on a Verizon phone?
I really don't want to factory reset already.

Could someone just test this out and let me know if you don't have the issue?
Just make a call, turn on the speaker and see if the party on the other end can hear you talking.
Be best if it's someone with a Verizon phone.
If it works for someone else on Verizon, I guess I'll go with the factory reset. The phone has only been out a few days, I guess it's possible it's a bug and I'm just the first person who noticed it, but I doubt it.

I did a factory reset and it's still not working.
I did take off my case and now there's some audio, but it's all a low static. I call a vm I have and start talking with speaker off and it's fine, then I turn speaker on and I get all static and hissing and can't hear myself at all.
I don't see how it could be hardware, but I guess it's possible. Sure seems like a system bug, but someone in the Verizon forum reported it's working, so I guess not.

Flashed back to factory image and same problem.
I guess it's my hardware.

Replaced phone today and all is good. I guess defective hardware.
It must have a different mic for when using speakerphone vs when not.

4.4.2 MIC not working..

I just update and wipe to 4.4.2 and the mic is not working on my phone....
I am having the same issue. The mic was completely functional before the update, and now it barely works and only when there are really loud noises on speaker phone. I went to get some help for this, and I was told that "this isn't something that would be caused by the update" and that I should do a factory reset. I have yet to do this, I am having issues doing a backup.
I faced intermittent mic issue since 4.3.
I've been on 4.4.2 since last week but today is the first time I try the MIC. It doesn't work at all, it was working fine before the update... And doing a factory reset doesn't change anything.
I have the same issue since updating to 4.4.3.
Unless I talk really loud, the person on the other side on the phone has trouble hearing me...
I had the same issue, I had to send my phone back to where I bought it and they repaired it for free.
They had to change some parts to make it work so it looks like it was hardware related.
I got my phone back after around 4 days, now my Microphone works perfectly fine again.

Microphone not working properly after lollipop ?

My in call mic, as well a google now hot word, is not working after installing the latest firmware for lollipop.
It is recording at an extremely low volume. People say I sound muffled and far away.
To get "OK google" to respond I have to put the mic right next to my mouth.
Every thing is fine when using speakerphone .
Are there two mics in the phone? Why would it not work in normal call mode and be fine on speaker?
Also after a google search. I found people in the nexus 5 community with the same problem.
Tried flashing older lollipop firmware to no avail. I haven't tried going back to sense yet, as I want to keep lollipop.
Any help or ideas are appreciated.
Strange. Try reflashing it. Make sure to wipe.
Anyone? If there is two mics is there a way to switch when they work. I'm mean to say have the speaker phone mic work as a regular in call mic
This is making me crazy. I can't send the phone to HTC, they want $400 because I used HTC DEV to unlock my phone.
Sometimes it works fine, like 5% of the time. Speaker phone mic works perfectly. I have to put the phone right near my mouth to get "ok Google" commands to work.
Does anyone know how I can get the other mic to act as the primary one?
Searching the interwebs. There are rumors of the noise cancellation causing the issue. Idk?
Can't buy a new device. I'm stuck with this one. It is beyond frustrating.
I've flashed, RUU'D everything under the sun to try and fix this. Nothing.
Anyone?

Nexus 5X Microphone

So here is the problem. I have tried talking to Google Support and also LG Support. Not under warranty anymore. I have heard several different people mention problems with their mics in calls, be it incoming or outgoing. I have done several things to try to fix this problem; flashing stock firmware and upgrading thru OTA's, clearing cache, rebooting every day, flashing custom roms, modifying the build.prop, opening the device and checking for physical damage. To my knowledge this phone has 3 microphones that are used for actual speaking and background noise reduction. When I opened the device everything looked ok on what I assumed were the mics (the tiny square bits soldered to the logic board at the top and the bottom). I assume these were just going bad and finally gave out on me. Has anyone had any experience getting these fixed or repaired? Is there any software based approach I can look into? I am really tired of using my speakerphone in every call. I assume I am not the only person with this problem.
If anyone can shed some light on this or help in anyway I would appreciate it
Thanks!
I would start by describing the mic issue you are experiencing during voice calls.
Haven't had any myself.
No one can hear me using the microphone, as soon as I switch to speakerphone the other party is able to hear me.
I've read mics can stop functioning if you try and clean the phone with compressed air. As far as fixing or replacing a mic I am unable to provide assistance.
Well rats. Hopefully someone can shed some light on getting this fixed. I do have some soldering experience but I don't even know how this translates via the logic board. Anyone that has more information the help would be awesome. Thank you for your time though previous posters.

I have this problem as well, but also all media volume can't be heard through the speakers. I've personally cleaned and replaced the unit and nothing works, I just have to choose speaker and start talking, else use a headset or a bluetooth mic
Same problem, no solution yet.
Think that is a software/driver/app combination bug.
When Iam in call hardly can anyone hear me, if I cover top mic - then im heard again (proof that bottom mic is working).
Top mic is used to cancel background noise, phone interpret your voice as background noise and volume it down. That way nobody can hear you.
When I cover top mic - no background noise detected and my voice is heard again.
Question is why top mic detect legit voice as background noise?
Same problem here. Can't use microphone normally on any sort of voice call. I have to change to speaker for people to be able to hear me. I'm not sure if I still have warranty so if it's a software problem I might be able to fix it by myself.

N5X voice call problems - my voice severely muted / garbled for other party

Nexus 5X, Stock 8.1.0 with security patch level 5 April 2018.
If I make or receive a call, the other party cannot hear me, my voice is severely muted and garbled. I've tested this by leaving messages on my home phone and all suffer from exactly this.
Now the microphone itself seems to be fine - WhatsApp voice messages are perfectly clear, I installed a voice recorder app to check and the recordings are good. Google voice searches also work fine.
I've done a factory reset. I've uninstalled updates to the Google Phone app. I've swapped SIMs. I've tried alternative dialers. I've turned on/off 2G /3G /4G. But my voice calls are always rubbish.
Anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on or suggestions as to what else to try?
Thanks!
Hi
I'm just visiting here with the same problem. I've been getting complaints about call quality from my end for a little while and it's driving me mad trying to be heard, often it starts off okay, then degrades rapidly after a few minutes, other times its from the start of the call. I've done the same as you, the mic tests fine in other apps, and sometimes it works okay. I did a complete factory reset which did seem to improve things but the problems returned, and no, I hadn't added any apps in between it working and going back to being terrible.
I've also tested calling my home answer phone and leaving a message to see what people are complaining about, and it is just constant drop outs. This happens over Wi-Fi calling, and over the network (EE network/UK), so it's not a reception problem. I've also used a plug in headphones with microphone and it's the same problem.
I really didn't want to buy another device at this time, but to me it's looking like a hardware problem.

Phil

Before I did the factory reset I had tried turning off noise reduction in the build.prop as recommended to try but it made no difference.
It sounds to listen too as though it's a faulty connection, and I'm thinking now this might be related to the reboot loops caused by connection problems, and this has the same cause, broken connections on the main chip. It's odd the sound is okay when recording sound or video, however that might simply be because the sound is being routed and processed elsewhere, and it's only when it's compressed for a call and routed via the Qualcomm modem that it's affected by a faulty connection. This would explain why sometimes for me it is okay, or starts of on a call okay then as the phone warms up the connection starts breaking.

Hi
I've now upgraded to a Pixel XL 2 as I needed to be able to be heard on calls and the 5X was out of warranty and LG didn't want to know. I really didn't want to upgrade quite so soon. The XL with the same SIM card on the same mobile network is all good and everyone can hear me, plus I have the benefit of VoLTE.
I believe the microphone problem is hardware related, most likely the same cause as the boot loop issues where the CPU or board has some broken solder connections. It sounds like a broken connection, and explains why it has progressively become worse. It's a pain as usually when I upgrade my phone gets handed over to another family member, but I can't do that with the broken 5X.

Pixel XL - No sound from speakers

Alright guys, I've got a problem I haven't quite dealt with before:
I've got no sound coming from my "external" phone speakers. The in-ear speaker works fine, and so does the mic. That means I can take phone calls just fine. Listening to Whatsapp voice messages is a challenge because Whatsapp uses the speakers which means the message plays with no sound, that is until I hold the phone to my face and the prox switch tells the app to play through the ear speaker. No YouTube videos or Snapchat sounds.
I looked around the forums and such but didn't find anything. I've checked all the system settings I know to check, but nothing I can find is "muting" the sound. My apps list is fairly standard. Stock rom and kernel, unlocked since day 1 but without even a recovery installed. Basically a factory phone.
What are you guys thinking? I'm happy to try basically anything. Even thinking of slapping a ROM into this beast to see what happens, although I doubt there's too much development going on for a 2yo phone...
Cheers!
Update:
I've got intermittent sound. I haven't opened the phone and have no reason to think water ingress could be the problem, but I can't think of a reason that the speakers would work intermittently. Sounds more like a hardware problem than a software problem to me. Anyone else?
It also happened to me except I didn't have any sound coming from both speaker and the earpiece. Not sure what happened though.

Well it only has one speaker. As for the others most likely hardware related.

Weirdly, I'm stuck in unreliable-sound limbo. I get sound most of the time, but speaker sound disappears occasionally with no predictability that I've found. Interestingly, If I mash or smack the bottom of the phone phone screen by the speakers, sometimes sound will come back on briefly or entirely. Weird, huh? Not sure what could be causing a connection problem. Maybe I'll open up the phone eventually and find out.
