[Q] Help - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I am in a bind.
I had TWRP and N2K type utiltiy that was working. i tried to wipe and reset and here is where i am now.
so i have a first generation kindle fire. i load TWRP and get to recovery boot which brings me to team win. TWRP is version 2.6.3.0.
I do not have access to the kindle drivers. so the only thing i can do is access it though mount.
so i mounted the device and added the most recent update (changing it to update.zip) but its not working. it still starts with the blue kindle fire setting and only in TWRP. i cant recover it to normal. when i go into the device i only have 2 folder. TWRP and .android_secure.
i just want to know how to get back to factory settings. I tried using a kindle boot device but it wont recognized the kindle because it is only recognizing it as a usb drive.
any ideas? not sure what other information you need to help. please help - thanks!

Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum for more relevant answers.

[Q] twrp...and nothing else

ok, this is probably been a question asked and answer many times now. so please bare with me. my kindle is stuck in twrp boot loop. it will only boot to twrp. when using kfu and trying to change boot mode from 5001 to 4000, i get the message: system cannot find the drive specified.
my kindle has nothing on it but a ics zip and twrp. there is no backup, nothing else.
when i try to install the driver for kfu 9, my pc wont install it. although i have the other drivers working (the drivers that make my pc see my kindle as a android device).
any help would be appreciated. thanks.

[Q] Unbrick Kindle Fire ClockworkMod

I've looked around the forums and I am not finding instructions on how to unbrick a Kindle Fire that has ClockworkMod installed. I installed ClockworkMod and installed a late ICS build with kernel 3.0 and the Fire is stuck in an infinite boot loop with the Kindle Fire/Android mascot logo.
I can get into ClockworkMod but re-flashing with the CM9 that I have doesn't do anything to fix it.
I know that if I were able to put the stock Kindle firmware on that /sdcard volume I can fix this but how do I do this with ClockworkMod?
I've tried all the unbricking utils (even the Java front-end) and they act like they're fixing things but they all make no changes.
I do have the correct drivers and can send adb commands to fastboot, normal boot, recovery boot, so I'm pretty sure I'm just missing how to unbrick a Kindle that is using ClockworkMod.
Thanks in advance.

When you say "infinite bootloop" do you mean the device turns on, shows the boot logo, then reboots?
If so... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25400963
Also CWM will not work with the latest versions of ICS, you need to flash TWRP.
I recommend people copy both the Kindle standard image as well as the customized image to the /sdcard volume. That way if you're stuck with a bricked Kindle at least you can re-install the original Kindle image and get back to where you were before.
I ordered a factory cable to get it to boot into factory recovery mode, which I know works in all cases.
In the meantime I'm going to attempt to try the steps in that post.
After that I'll try to mount the original Kindle system image from a USB drive (using the USB boot feature of CWM) and then try to install it from there and then go back to TWRP or FireFireFire.
I've successfully used FireFireFire before, but using CWM bricked my Kindle hard. I'll update this thread when it's working again.
Thanks for the info.
Okay, I successfully unbricked it.
It wasn't so much a hard brick or a soft brick but more of a firm bricking.
I went into CWM and told it to mount the USB volume. The 5 gigabyte drive appeared on my computer and I formatted it.
I took the Amazon stock update and changed its file extension to zip.
I then copied it from the computer to the mounted volume.
I chose the zip for installation and then installed it from CWM.
After shutting down and rebooting a few times it worked.
I didn't even have to do any ADB tricks. This is because I had a working CWM boot image.
Now it's off to more hacking!!
I am having the same problem... how did you get into clockwork? it doesnt stay on long enough for me to connect it to the KFU
I did the same thing. You'll need to go into CWM and mount it as usb storage and then it will show up on your desktop as a disk drive. Format it from there to wipe out the crap that's hanging it up and then reinstall either your rom or stock amazon rom.

I am int he same boat. How did you or can I get into Clockwork
I'm not very knowledgeable about CWM but I do have an idea. Try turning off kindle by holding down power button, plug kindle in to computer and turn it on. Open KFU, if it says that adb is online, then you have your fix. Just set the boot mode to recovery and you should boot right in to cwm.

[Q] Accidentally wiped everything...now I'm stuck in TWRP

Hi everyone, I tried to root the kindle fire 1st gen and accidentally wiped the sdcard...So now I'm stuck in TWRP with no rom or backup. I tried to transfer files from pc to kindle, but the computer does not recognize the kindle anymore. Please give me some suggestions, thank you!
PS: My system is win 8 x64, installed KFU and android SDK. KFU shows online when the kindle fire logo shows up (it stucks there) but the boot mode is unknown. Also I can't use adb while the device is in recovery (trwp) mode.

Was it only the sdcard that you wiped or had you also wiped system?

I think it's the whole system...not too sure about that though. Now the problem is I can't connect to the pc while in twrp recovery (adb won't work), and if I booted normally, the adb will work.
Tom
First of all don't worry as long as your TWRP is working.
I did the same thing while changing one rom to another, accidentally wiped everything.
What you need to to do is
1. Download KF rom. I like twa's rom and gapps zip on your computer.
2. Connect your Kindle fire to your windows desktop.
3. Start the KF, go into TWRP recovery.
4. Click mount option. Now you should see KF as usb drive in your windows desktop.
5. Paste both rom and gapps into backup folder, which is inside TWRP folder.
6. Eject the KF usb drive successfully and THEN click unmount option on the Kindle fire display.
7. Now in TWRP screen, go to install option, go to the copied Rom and install it, gapps- install it and clean catches and dalvinick catches and reboot the system.
8. This should start the KF with new rom. Now through file manager app, go back to backup folder in TWRP and move to other location, if you want.

Hi, thank you for the suggestion. however, I tried this method but the computer does not recognize kindle fire as a usb. Actually kindle fire is gone from the computer and adb not working. Do you know why it's like this? Thank you for your time.
That is strange.
Can you try connecting it to another computer? May be it might work.

Try
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2459498
This worked for me - key was that I needed to use the usb drivers in his signature. This allowed me to atb over anyway - still can't see it on computer as a usb device.
I'm facing a similar issue but my device is Moto G5s Plus.
The problem I'm facing is that I accidently wiped out the mobile's system completely, and now it does not even have an "internal storage" partition at all (since it shows 0 MB). Hence, I cannot even transfer any files to my mobile because my computer does show the phone detected but no "internal storage exists".
Please help me out..

[Q] (PLEASE HELP) Kindle won't pass bootloader

My kindle has an otterX (from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2671619 ) and i just get the Kindle Fire logo and press to open bootmenu. I cannot boot into revoery for some reason and upon clicking continue boot the kindle fire just shuts off. i can't figure out what i need to do to get it unstuck from this situation or if i can throw it into fastboot. when sitting in the bootmenu the kindle shows up in Device Manager as a Kindle Fire (below when Kindle Fire is clicked) and then Android composite ADB Interface. Would rekindle work? i seriously don't want this kindle to be bricked/broken.

When that has happened to me it was from a incompatible recovery or corrupt recovery.
when you see the bootloader it is in Fastboot mode.
just reflash a recovery like otterx-twrp-2.7.1.0-recovery.img
in command prompt
Code:
fastboot flash recovery otterx-twrp-2.7.1.0-recovery.img
fastboot reboot
still confused...
i am getting an error saying it cannot open the file.
did you watch my video? [YouTube] OtterX ROM/TWRP/Bootloader [2014-05-08]
Sent from my Amazon OtterX using Tapatalk
i've gotten TWRP to install. i couldn't get the otterX one i needed to install so i installed one i downloaded else where. i was originally wanting KitKat on here but don't want that fiasco to happen again. unfortunately now i cannot boot normally. just gets to the Kindle Fire Logo and restarts.
Is the bootloader set to amazon or otters partitions?
Sent from my Amazon OtterX using Tapatalk
i think it's on amazon. however upon reading some articles of what i was doing the version i have now isn't able to haandle what im doing so i have to update twrp.
You need to pick a direction otterx, or other custom ROM, or stock
Sent from my Amazon OtterX using Tapatalk
using the updated version of twrp thats compatible with installing KitKat will that be possible to leave it amazon or would i need to use otterX for CM11 KitKat?
You can install whatever you want, just need to tell me so I can give correct directions.
You need to check Bootloader settings, advanced does it say amazon or or otterx partitions
Sent from my Amazon OtterX using Tapatalk
i don't see a way to check that. im using the fff-u-boot v1.5 bootloader i believe (not to sure, pretty new to android and rooting) (with openrecovery-twrp-2.2.2.1-blaze (need to update downloaded 2.8.0.2-blaze already) sorry for my being a noob with this. your helping a ton though :highfive: .
1.5 FFF is not otterx just otter
flash openrecovery-twrp-2.8.0.2-blaze.img
Code:
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.0.2-blaze.img
fastboot reboot
in TWRP Wipe/factory reset
install cm-11-20140916-SNAPSHOT-M10-otter.zip
and PA MINI MODULAR PACKAGE GApps
in TWRP
im having an issue getting into fastboot mode. i've tried restarting my kindle and running fastboot commands. the command to install the updated twrp is still saying waiting for device.
When you see Bootloader it's in fastboot mode
Could be a drivers issue.
When I flash, I usually start with connecting USB cable, then power off kindle, run commands, reboot kindle
Sent from my Amazon OtterX using Tapatalk
The Fastboot mode finally loaded. had to pull the device manager and begin process of pointing out driver and shut off the kindle and as it hit the bootloader point i had to install driver. i believe my issues have been resolved. It booted up KitKat just now. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! :victory: :highfive:

Trouble Rooting First Gen Kindle

I have been trying to use the KFU to root, but at the end of the command prompt, it says Waiting on Device. I have left it like this for 15 minutes to no avail and I can interact fully with the kindle. I'm running 6.3.3 on the kindle and windows 8 on my laptop. I have tried installing the drivers but no matter what I do, the kindle still shows up as Kindle Fire in device manager, although if I click the drop down arrow, it says Android Composite ADB Interface. When I load up KFU, it registers that the device is connected and says ADB Status: Connected, but Boot Status is unknown. I don't know what to try, can anyone help?

Yes I can get to twrp, but I cannot boot into the OS. If I boot up and select boot normally, it goes to the orange kindle fire logo then the screen cuts off. I'd like install CM 10 which I have downloaded on my laptop.

Just use mount sd card option in twrp.
mount>check sd card >mount usb
should get a popup in windows>click view files
copy CM10 and Gapps to sd card
unmount usb in TWRP
wipe>factory reset
install Cm10 and gapps

Great, If you want to upgrade to CM11 you will have to upgrade twrp first.
