[Q] Accidentally wiped everything...now I'm stuck in TWRP - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone, I tried to root the kindle fire 1st gen and accidentally wiped the sdcard...So now I'm stuck in TWRP with no rom or backup. I tried to transfer files from pc to kindle, but the computer does not recognize the kindle anymore. Please give me some suggestions, thank you!
PS: My system is win 8 x64, installed KFU and android SDK. KFU shows online when the kindle fire logo shows up (it stucks there) but the boot mode is unknown. Also I can't use adb while the device is in recovery (trwp) mode.

Was it only the sdcard that you wiped or had you also wiped system?

I think it's the whole system...not too sure about that though. Now the problem is I can't connect to the pc while in twrp recovery (adb won't work), and if I booted normally, the adb will work.

Tom
First of all don't worry as long as your TWRP is working.
I did the same thing while changing one rom to another, accidentally wiped everything.
What you need to to do is
1. Download KF rom. I like twa's rom and gapps zip on your computer.
2. Connect your Kindle fire to your windows desktop.
3. Start the KF, go into TWRP recovery.
4. Click mount option. Now you should see KF as usb drive in your windows desktop.
5. Paste both rom and gapps into backup folder, which is inside TWRP folder.
6. Eject the KF usb drive successfully and THEN click unmount option on the Kindle fire display.
7. Now in TWRP screen, go to install option, go to the copied Rom and install it, gapps- install it and clean catches and dalvinick catches and reboot the system.
8. This should start the KF with new rom. Now through file manager app, go back to backup folder in TWRP and move to other location, if you want.

Hi, thank you for the suggestion. however, I tried this method but the computer does not recognize kindle fire as a usb. Actually kindle fire is gone from the computer and adb not working. Do you know why it's like this? Thank you for your time.

That is strange.
Can you try connecting it to another computer? May be it might work.

This worked for me - key was that I needed to use the usb drivers in his signature. This allowed me to atb over anyway - still can't see it on computer as a usb device.

I'm facing a similar issue but my device is Moto G5s Plus.
The problem I'm facing is that I accidently wiped out the mobile's system completely, and now it does not even have an "internal storage" partition at all (since it shows 0 MB). Hence, I cannot even transfer any files to my mobile because my computer does show the phone detected but no "internal storage exists".
Please help me out..

Deleting files from the system folder only affects the current rom(or as you call it, operating system) and doesn't affect ADB or the TWRP recovery program. You can use TWRP to install a new rom, even the stock Kindle rom.
I can't post links, so search google for "kindle fire software update" and you should find amazon's page to download the latest stock rom for the kindle fire. Rename the file to update.zip and transfer it to the storage on your kindle. You can then use TWRP to select the zip file and re-install the stock kindle rom. This WILL break your root, so use the Kindle Fire utility that's linked in the development forum if you want to re-root your kindle.
If you don't have TWRP installed, try using the Kindle Fire Utility (in the development forum) to install TWRP or recover your kindle fire. I hope this helps!

TWRP is the recovery program that you can boot into before the rom loads. You can use the Kindle Fire Utility to install TWRP. If the kindle fire utility isn't working, you can try installing TWRP manually, but you will also need to install FireFireFire, which is the boot loader that replaces the stock kindle loader and allows you to boot into TWRP.
The most important thing is to have ADB access. If you can plug the kindle fire into your PC and get ADB working, you can fix pretty much anything.
How i can be sure that adb is working?

download the latest kfu from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399889
extract to c:\ and rename "kindle fire utility" to "kfu"
cd to c:\kfu and run "install_drivers.bat"
cd to c:\kfu\tools and type:
"adb devices" - get a response ?
"fastboot devices" - get a respose ?
you should get a response from one of the commands
I have to mention when in b63 post where your in the tools folder it easier to right click inside that folder in an empty space within it, and then press the keyboard's shift key for an option from the right clicked dropdown to open a command prompt window right there. Then type adb devices followed by enter key. Optimum would be a device ##000000000 sorta output in that tiny window , whereas then you could close it and click run in the kindle fire utility from the download. You can see more options to root your device to here with "status info".
Same problem

>>> Hi, I have the same problem here. I accidentally deleted my rooted KF system with no rom saved on my KF (I'm a noob). Now, I did the steps you mentioned above.
This is what I have:
-When I typed ad devices it says "list of devices attached :15FE000600000001"
-Got nothing when typed "fastboot devices.
-On KFU it says" adb statusnline', "boot status:unknown".
-I can't install the Fastboot mode on the KF because it stays on waiting for device.
-My pc recognizes the Kindle as a device on the Device Manager, but I can't explore it because it doesn't show up on My Computer.
-I have already unistalled, deleted, re-install the drivers many times. The one that comes with KFU only makes the adb status go offline. The only driver that makes it show on the computer is the one I get when I connect the KF to the computer and let it download a driver by itself.
Please tell me, what can I do to make it show up so I can paste the rom on the device.

Thanks, I have read it like 3 times, it's just a little confusing for someone dealing with rooting for the first time. What I get is that I need to get the KF come up on Windows so I can paste the rom into the KF and that the KF needs to be in fastboot to install the rom.
Anyway, now the Kindle shows up on KFU as "online" and the bootmode is "4000", but still nothing comes up on the explorer. Twrp is installed and I'm able to load it, but I did not make a Backup. How can I install the system again?
If twrp is installed when you boot into it click on mount, then click mount usb, this is the only way it's going to show up as a mass storage device on your pc so that you can transfer a rom over to it.

Put both zips on your sdcard in zip form, wipe factory/data reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, wipe system, flash rom zip, flash gapps zip, reboot then system if prompted.
Thank you so much!!!

[Q] Kindle Fire keeps looping Kindle Fire logo

So I've read the similar threads, no clear answer.
I've searched the forums with no real clear answer.
So before I continue, I just want to make sure that this is correct.
Kindle Fire turns on, I have fully charged it overnight, and it still boot loops. The Kindle Fire logo comes on, flashes on and off, logo shows again with the logo glimmering, and then turns off and back on. It starts the process over. Very rarely will it go all the way to the arrow that you slide but you can't ever slide it over to get in, it just restarts.
So from my understanding is that the shell is corrupt and I need a factory cable to force fastboot. Is this correct? Thank you for reading my post.
Not necessarily. If you are talking about the stock "Kindle Fire" logo. Skip to the second half.
If you are talking about the FFF1.3 Kindle Fire logo with the Andy above it, you should be able to get into recovery, so long as you flashed a recovery.
If this is the case, start the kindle and watch the power button. When it dims press it a few times. It should change to an orange/amber color after a few presses and then boot into your recovery. From there you can load a rom and get yourself back on track.
If you have the stock bootloader, I'm not sure this will work for you, but it won't hurt to try. Worst case you are out the time it took you to make the USB.
As I found out yesterday, fastboot occurs so quick that Windows might not have the chance to discover and install drivers. So if you have a USB drive, create a firekit LiveUSB.
Once you have a LiveUSB and have booted off it and started firekit, try running normal_boot and then, when powered off, plug the kindle into the computer. With luck, it will reboot and start up into your rom.
If you are unlucky, try install_fff_twrp. Again have the kindle off, and connect it to the USB.
If that does not work try again with install_fff_twrp_from_stock as a last ditch effort.
If that fails, get your factory cable. You can try the other commands too, but I wouldn't hold your breath. But, if it works great.
ok well first off when I first turn it on, I get the yellow fire warning sign that states at the bottom to push the power button for recovery.
I'm getting things to install just fine but anytime it has anything to do with ADB, it does not work. It doesn't work with a regular cable nor the factory cable. Everytime it states that device is not found.
From what I've read the drivers are working properly if I'm able to use fastboot and it shows up in the device manager as a Android Phone > Android ADB Device.
The only time I can keep it recognized by the computer is with the factory cable.
If I use the regular cable, it recognizes it for a second then boots into TWRP but the computer doesn't see the Kindle anymore.
All I'm needing to do is reinstall STOCK Firmware. When I first got it, it just boot looped.
Use the factory cable to change your bootmode to 4000. Reboot, then turn it off and let it charge. It sounds like you are stuck in fastboot mode (4002) with a dead battery, and if I'm not mistaken the device won't charge in fastboot. The factory cable forces fastboot mode, bypasses the battery and provides power directly to the device which is why you are able to issue fastboot commands with the cable.

Charged
When I am not working on it, I plug it back up to the charger to charge, so charging isn't the problem. TWRP states that the battery is 98% charged when I unplug it.
in twrp you have to manually mount the system and sd card from mount options!
Mount the sd card, save the kindle update bin file, renaming it to update.zip and install from twrp
[Note to self:] Avoid using XDA while on Ambien.

If all you want to do is reinstall stock this is easy to fix. Go to the Amazon Kindle website and download the latest 6.3 update. It will be in a .bin format.
Change the name of the update.bin to update.zip
Boot your Kindle to TWRP
Go to "Mount" and mount your SDcard
You should see "[X] Unmount Sdcard" before pressing "Mount to USB"
Your device's sdcard will show up on your computer
Place the newly renamed update.zip on your sdcard
Go to "Install" and flash the update.zip
When installed, the update.zip will turn everything back the way it was when you turned it on for the first time.

In TWRP, it will not let me select Mount SD Card, it will only let me select Mount System. :X
The only option I know of besides Linux liveUSB Firekit, would require you to format your sdcard and you would lose all of your data. You might be able to mount your system folder to transfer files and just flash it in TWRP from there but I've never tried it. If that doesn't work and you don't mind erasing your whole sdcard...
Boot into recovery (TWRP)
Get your command prompt ready with adb in your present working directory (if you're not sure type: dir )
adb shell
echo /dev/block/mmcblk0p12 > /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file
That will mount sdcard to your computer like an external drive. You'll probably have to format it. In Windows, select Quick Format > FAT32 > block size 4096.
Just make sure that the volume you are formatting is your sdcard (>5Gb) You should be able to move your update.zip to it then.

Do a Google for adb side load
Once you are in TWRP, you should be able to push the ROM to you KF2.
If your ADB drivers are playing up, have a look at booting from an Ubuntu live CD, then installing Soup kit from this of the dev forum.

My PC wouldn't access SD card but while in twrp on device, on pc opened cmd in folder with adb and 'adb devices' saw my device. Was able to 'adb push' files to /sdcard/ that way. I was in twrp, had no backup, lost root and system was wiped. Nothing but twrp was on here. Which I had to revert to stock unrooted and reroot the device but it came out fine.

I can't copy the Amazon Zip file via windows, it stops about 1/3rd the way and errors

OK! I figured it out! I had a wonky USB cable! Once I replaced it I was able to copy the update-kindle-6.3.1_D01E_4107720.zip into the Kindle. I tried to flash it but TWRP reported that it could not open the zip. I had the update-kindle-6.3.2_D01E_4110520.zip file also D/L'd and copied it to the Kindle. That file flashed and the Kindle booted back up to 6.3.2 stock KF1.
Many Many thanks to sd_Shadow for pointing me the right way and shoving REALLY hard!

In TWRP, I selected Mount, Mount SDCard, "Mount USB Storage"
Then Windows opens a file manager window and I see Kindle (K
In that folder I see the TWRP folder and the log file I described.
In TWRP in the Kindle, the only button I can hit is the Unmount.

[Q] Help

So I am in a bind.
I had TWRP and N2K type utiltiy that was working. i tried to wipe and reset and here is where i am now.
so i have a first generation kindle fire. i load TWRP and get to recovery boot which brings me to team win. TWRP is version 2.6.3.0.
I do not have access to the kindle drivers. so the only thing i can do is access it though mount.
so i mounted the device and added the most recent update (changing it to update.zip) but its not working. it still starts with the blue kindle fire setting and only in TWRP. i cant recover it to normal. when i go into the device i only have 2 folder. TWRP and .android_secure.
i just want to know how to get back to factory settings. I tried using a kindle boot device but it wont recognized the kindle because it is only recognizing it as a usb drive.
any ideas? not sure what other information you need to help. please help - thanks!
