Greetings.
I was planning on buy the phone up there in the title, but I have a few questions:
1. I've read statements saying that you both can and can't use P930's Rom's on it. Would it be possible or not?
2. In most screenshots I've seen, the 4G / LTE icon is chilling on the status bar. Is it an always on (even if you don't have it) kind of thing, or can you turn the radio off at will? My current service doesn't have LTE nor do I plan to get it in any nearby future.
Thanks in advance to all who reply.

I have the bell optimus 4g lte from bell but its technically a p930. I can tell you that this phone can be set to use lte if available, or fall back to 3g if necessary, or just use 3g, or use 2g as well I believe.
From my understanding, and correct me if I'm wrong, but if you have to port a p930 rom; I believe its as simple as dragging a few folders from one ROM to another to get it to work, so long as someone has made a port of cm to work off for your device which I think they have. If possible, push for the p930 though, and try to get one with GB, and not updated to stock ICS or you'll have to unbrick to load ROMs (at least on the p930) as it locks the bootloader.

First off, thank you for the very quick reply.
Very good news that you can turn off the LTE, should allow for some battery saving. Sadly I live in Portugal, where it was already hard enough to find a shop with this version. The P930 is completely off the map in these lands.
If I do end up buying it, I'll spend a good week just soaking up info on it before I actually try any flashing shenanigans and even if I can't it's not that big a deal (coming from a Xperia Live With Walkman, 1.0Ghz single core with 512 ram. Even unoptimized this should feel like a Ferrari compared to it).
My only issues were the LTE radio, which will be turned off all the time, and the battery life itself (which I forgot to ask about). For somone who doesn't game, and will use the mobile for rare calls, most SMS's and emails, and the occasional 1h sessions of websurfing or video viewing, what battery duration would I get?

i have a telus version p935 and on the box it says p935 but i opened the phone to replace a digitizer before and every part in the phone that has a tag says p930, pretty sure it's just the box that says p935.
i may be wrong but i have never had a problem flashing any rom that says p930
i also used a digitizer that was made for p930 and it works flawlessly

Yep I believe 930 and 935 are nearly identicle if not 100% ....most ROMs will day for p93x meaning they work for either version. As far as battery life that will vary greatly depending on the ROM, settings, and kind of use. You should get a minimum of ten hours of medium use (roughly two hours of screen on time) Here's my usage for today. Keep in mind I use the device as WiFi only so airplane mode and WiFi have been on the whole time.

All the P93x Versions are the same. You have to differentiate only with SU... I have a P936 myself and have had no problems with flashing P930 Cyanogenmod and all recommendations for P930 apply to the P936.
My recommendation is: Take a RC from CM 10.1 (currently no stable version exists) and flash the latest Wind Kernel (has to be for CM 10.1). I have around 26 hours of battery life (I turn on airplane mode when I go to sleep). I turned on airplane mode when it was fully charged. 6 hours later it was still at 100%. That is a big difference compared to CM 10.1 before the RCs. I haven't tested the battery life of the new RCs (3-4) but i heard they improved a lot. My Usage can be compared to yours: I surf the web like 2 hours a day, have push e-mail turned on (from 2 exchange servers) synchronize with my yahoo web mail account and gmail. I don't have any energy save app installed and i don't think it is necessary when you go with wind kernel.
Hope this helps!
Many thanks for the input bumbum.droid, that puts me much more at ease. I'll have a final search to see if I can still find a LG 4X HD anywhere and if not I'll go for this one.
Thanks everyone for the answers.
I've a p936 in PT the only thing you need to worry about is which baseband the ROM you are installing has.
You can get 4G/LTE from Vodafone in some locations, the battery will suffer a bit.
Also take into consideration most ROMs available are either from US region or Asia, and with those you will have bad reception, to fix that there is a thread around with all the basebands available, just flash the German one, since all 3g and 4g frequencies are the same within Europe you will be OK.
Regarding battery, get used to charge your phone every day or every two days if you have low screen usage, personally the best battery I got was from LG liquid nitro v7 with wind kernel, and got me around 3h-4h of screen on time

Can anyone share baseband files from V20 ROM P936?
I'm currently parted from my normal PC, when I get it back I can share them with you, it will take about 7 days though

Well, ended up getting lucky and did found a LG 4X for about €20 more than the P936, which ended up as the better option.
Still, and once again, many thanks for all who took their time to answer.
Is the 4x Better? Just curious what's better screen and processor wise
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda app-developers app
Main differences between the two are a slightly bigger screen (from 4.5 to 4.7, but same resolution), 16GB internal, Quad-Core 1.5Ghz A9 with Tegra 3, and a bit more battery life with 2150mHa.
Here's a comparison between them
The main difference between 4X and P936 is absence of LTE in first, and also simple IPS display instead of much more better AH-IPS in P936. The 2150 mAh battery doesn't really helps Quad-Core Tegra3 to last longer, but SoC is indeed somewhat faster in benches. But the screen difference is much more perceptible than benchmark scores
What are the main issues of the lg g3 (planning to buy one)..
Does it have the screen issue like the g2? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fd5BTKpViUk
is there a fix for the overheating and shutdown issues?
how is performance in gaming?
is it possible to reduce the resolution to 1080p to save battery and gain performance (and maybe prevent overheating)?

Read through The G3 threads you will know the answer to all of these.
You cant reduce resolution.
Gaming is decent
I have had no such overheating since 10H update and no shutdown issues ever.

OK the. Do other users also have temperature and shutdown issue fixed with the lg update?
Never had shutdown or overheating no matter what firmware. It's abit laggy tho but way better with art etc.
I guess you guys are not heavy users? cuz I read a lot of users have overheating issues with message prompting them to decrease brightness as it is overtheating and may shutdown (what the heck? ... LG really lost it on that one... Do you really expect to get that kind of message on a flagship pricey phone??). LG seems to be making great phones but each time there's a deal breaker. (screen issues with LG G2 and now overheating/performance issues on the LG G3)... I hope they get it right with the G4.
Did antutu x benchmarks, 3 times in a row with 90% brightness without auto with an ambient temp of 30c. I actually can't remember if my score was lower last time (because of throttling), gonna check it when I receive my phone again.
No message about high temp etc tho.
ok you are probably not a heavy user.

I am a very heavy user. No issues. People need to understand a simple factory reset and installing the latest update helps. When i first got it i performed a factory reset and installed thr latest update manually so i never really had time to see if it had issues on previous firmware . although i did run a benchmark when i got it it got really hot. But i did the same after the update it just got a little warm nothing to worry about.
ok. I want to know if other users have these issues solved with the updates like you.

Zero issues, apart from the screen sharpening and abysmal battery life when the screen is on
abysmal battery life?
No one is experiencing this lg g2 issue on the G3 right?:

nice video showing that how lg g3 compares to the cat 6 version and the galaxy s5 prime
Sometimes the phone become hot specially when the phone is charging and I'm texting and browsing 'usually in a dark room so the brightness is 0%'
And yes my phone brightness decreased to 90% automatically and sometimes 80% due to overheating
Lg g2 was faster than g3 and you can see it when you use it for a long time
Overall. Go for it its awesome device
Hey guys ! Today I traded my S5 for a G3 and I have some questions :
1. Which is the latest and which is the best firmware ? I am currently on V10H. I see that there are V10i and V10j firmwares, but I don't get a OTA. Should I manually flash them and are they newer and better ?
2.Is it normal for the phone to heat up so much. My G3 heats up just from listening to music and using facebook messenger on 3G. The first boot after updateing my phone it was hot like an oven. Barely touchable on the top side of the screen. (also the brightness could't go beyond 90%)
3. If I root my G3, do I loose my warranty ?
4. Can I do something after rooting to improve the battery life and lower down the heat ?
5. My G3 uses around 10-12% overnight (6-7 hours) Isn't that too much ? My S5 used around 2-3% overnight...
6. Also on Antutu v5 at exactly 27% I get High temperature warning and my phone reboots. Anyone else having this problem ?
Please guys !

1) I think I and J are kind of the same but others will know better, they are the latest firmware.
2) No but what you call heat and what others call heat might be different but it shouldn't get anything more than warm at most.
3) Yes but you can revert back easily to keep warranty. I used Stump Root.
4) Yes lots of things but I haven't tried any as I have very good battery. There are things you can do without rooting as well.
5) Yes that is way too much. Mine uses no more than 2% over 8 hours but I have a few of the Google things turned off.
6) Never done it but from what I've read others have had the same problem.
If you have an SD card in the phone remove it and see if the heat will stop.
It is a Saturday so give it some time for others to answer.

1) My D855 is on 10H at the moment with no OTAs available at the moment. Most of the OTAs so far have just been small bug fixes and such (the change log for J is exactly the same as H). Its not worth trying to manually flash them yourself. Sometimes the update is available by the LG PC Suite before the OTA, so maybe give that a go.
2) The G3 warming up isnt uncommon. I can usually feel mine warming up around the power button in usage similar to yours. I wouldn't worry too much about the phone being hot after just booting from an update, the phone has probably been running the CPU flat out during the update and boot process to finish everything. The limited brightness is an automatic thing put in place by LG to prevent overheating. (If it was limited to 90%, then I would have thought it is not getting that hot otherwise the brightness would be limited even more)
3) Probably. I haven't rooted mine, but I believe there is a root counter/status thing in the hidden service menu that LG may look if ever your phone is sent back by which they may deny repairs or charge you for them out of warranty. (But if it is a genuine hardware defect, they may be lenient. I sent my HTC One back for repairs for the purple tint issue on the camera with the bootloader still unlocked, but they didn't say anything)
4) Not sure about that (as I haven't rooted).
5) That usage seems about the same drain I have when leaving the phone while it is on cellular data. My G3 has superb standby battery life while it is on WiFi.
6) I think that is a common occurrence with the G3, the phone is rebooting as the phone is getting too hot.

Thanks a lot for the info guys !
When my phone reboots during antutu it is not even warm. I even tried doing the benchmark in the fridge and same thing happened. It just makes no sense.
Also 1 more question - Is there some kind of a list of apps that are safe to remove/dissable ?
Hi,
New to my LG G3 and just had a thermal runaway where the phone crashed and rebooted, and CPU-Z showed most of the sensors at 95Centigrade. After the phone sat for a bit, it's back to 50 C. I think this has been happening fairly often, maybe once a day, in this case it happened while charging wirelessly, and yesterday while talking on the phone.
Running Android 4.4.2 the 12B version. Rooted.
Is there something I can do to fix this? I really don't like having an unstable phone.
try clean flash rom using lg flashtool.if also not solved then try changing the battery.

I've been having similar issues. Just installed CPU-z but it's not doing it right now. My phone has overheated so bad a couple of times that the screen starts flashing on/off (screen backlight stays on...image flashes) and then after a few flashes, it reverts to stock background and keeps flashing. I have to pull battery to get it to quit. Once it's back on I still have the stock wallpaper and have to change it back. It's still there....dunno what's going on! Phone almost always seems hot in shirt pocket anymore.

well you do know that phone says high temp and will shutdown only when battery temp gets over 50 celcius so battery temp is also important here.many users who faced overheating prob got their prob fixed by changing the battery ao i thought u could have had the same prob so i suggest u that.try it.who knows it could work.or if u just bought ur phone then go replace it with another one.
Since i updated my G4 i experienced overheating issues and poor performance .. I tried various tweaks but nothing helped .. I now using Cyanogenmod 13 but it is not snappy like stock and apps are opening much slower on CM .. At least performance is good, no heat at all and battery is better .. Any suggestions what to do ?

LG makes it so confusing, to think that a ROM version 20A is more updated than a 20D.
Hello!
Yeah, it's a bit confusing. The way i understand it is that they code the versions per country or region. As Brazil just got MM, ver. a is the first ver. for them but it carries the latest security patch and fixes (it's more updated than g Turkey).
Cheers!

My LG G4 h815 is on v20D and have exactly the same issues... Not only that but also losing network sometimes as well as the phone struggling to re-connect to Wi-Fi or connect to data and it gets to over 40 degrees in no time. Haven't had those issues before hence logged request with LG to have my phone fixed as somehow I have a feeling that it might be related to S/N 505xxxx hardware issue though no bootloops yet.

I would disagree that it is purely software issue based on the fact that we had v20D since probably February and no such issues were observed until very recently without having anything new installed on the phone thus linking this to being more of a hardware issue made worse by pretty bad software update.
I think quite a lot of people noticed the faster battery drain and quicker heating of the phone with v20D which could have impacted the components on the motherboard (I've read about components de-soldering and getting lose because of that).

I have brand new motherboard and i have the same problems ... I installed many custom roms and there is no problems with temperatures at all .. It is sofware
I switched from the official MM release to ressurection remix because of this. Unfortunately it was even getting more worse - at least not better. Then I got a hint that this may be kernel related and installed the minamo kernel in RR. Now it is much better imo. So I think you should try another kernel it may solve this problem for you, too. If using a stock firmware you could try one of the other custom kernel out there for stock ..
