I have the unlocked HTC be m8. From India.
I have currently upgraded to latest lollipop version.
Have never rooted before and was willing to.
Can I follow the same steps as the KitKat version or there will be a seperate version of rooting for lollipop.
And I want to root and downgrade.
Help!
And what are the chances of bricking your phone.

The procedure is the same, read up a few guides on that. All you need to do after the standard procedure is restore my backup from the stock backups thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
You can't 100% downgrade without S-OFF, and that's apparently not available with Lollipop yet

Hi,
I am newbie in this forum
I just bought Desire Z in Hongkong. It has been updated to 1.84.708.1 before I start join this forum.
I want to root it, but after searching many times I cannot find the links or references to root this stock rom version.
What I found is that in order to root, we have to downgrade the software (stockrom) first. However, the quides only provides procedures to downgrade from 1.72 to 1.34.
My questions:
-Can I root (without firstly downgrade it)?
-If I have to downgrade, can I use/apply the procedures applied for downgrading from 1.71 to 1.34 (while my stock rom is 1.84.708.1)
Please point me to the links or references so that I can look into it
Appologize, if my questions have already been asked by others.
thanks in advance
Cheers
I'm also in the same boat. Did you find out what the solution was?
Nope, no official ROM versions 1.72 or higher are rootable yet.
The guide to downgrade from 1.72 to 1.34 and root will work for you.
After root, if you want to get back to a more recent ROM version, you can flash the Virtuous custom ROM, which is based on 1.85.
Thank you!

i have one question about downgrade ...is it able to backup the offical 1.84 rom for go back to OEM for warranty ?
cause the downgrade will wipe the 1.84 rom already
or does your 1.34 able to check the OTA upgrade if i want OEM back ?
or any method to backup the 1.84 before downgrade ?

You should be able to flash the official shipped 1.84 ROM if ever needed for warranty purposes.
As far as I know, there is no way to make a nandroid/clockworkmod backup of the 1.84 ROM, since it would require root to do so.

As explained in the above post, currently there is no tools to back up the ROM without firstly rooting your device Unfortunately, you cannot root rom v.1.84
ROM Manager and Titanium back up require the phone to be rooted in order to do back up.
So, What I did before rooting, is downloading the new stock rom from this link:
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Vision
However, after rooted, you still can have OTA upgrade
So, now I have 2 shipped rom (i.e v.1.34 and v.1.84)
If I ever want to upgrade, I dont need OTA, I just flash it...
Cheers
thx for the help and the link help me alot
i just ask this for my friend cause he is worrying not able to going back to stock if need...
now just let him decide root or not....i dont want to take the risk if anything happen that cant return
ps : his phone is hk csl version ... not sure does the hk_cht version same as hk_csl version...and not sure does it effect warrenty

Did you use the goldcard method to downgrade?
coz i am stuck at step 11 of goldcard method. I am not able to copy the content of goldcard to removeable disk.
After i select the content in removable disk, "Paste write" option is not available
Tried it in XP and win 7..
Any help please..
If someone can post a guide on how to donwgrade succesfully from 1.84, that would help a lot of peoples including my self.
Question here ; i have another Desire Z witch he is root actually, so it is possible to clone the root one and copy it to the unroot desire z 1.84 ?
Can someone please provide me with step by step instructions on how to downgrade a Rogers Canada HTC One M8 running 4.4.4 to the previous version of 4.4.3 please. The phone is unlocked through HTC Dev, rooted and running TWRP. I don't care if I lose all my data, I am perfectly willing to start fresh.
Thank You.

Since I couldn't find a RUU exe for your variant, This link will point you to a TWRP Nandroid backup of 4.4.3 for ROGER001: https://mega.co.nz/#!dZBWnLjD!3p951Y_HW_ibCMeQanA7vIj0GDy1b3w4YJCO0RINhls
Simply restore this using TWRP custom recovery. You can flash the stock recovery if you wish by downloading the 4.4.3 OTA and extracting recovery.img.
Visit the thread here if you need more information how to restore it properly:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51750217
Thank you, that procedure worked and I am back to 4.4.3
I'm from Malaysia. I want to downgrade my Htc One (M8) from android 4.4.4 to 4.4.3
Software number : 3.32.707.9
Anyone has please upload it for me. Please and thank you. Your help will be appreciated.
use an older nandroid backup from the collection thread and restore it. flash back the stock recovery and perform the needed ota's to get to the desired version.
done....
Why are you trying to downgrade? You can't downgrade to s-off, if that is what you are trying to do (and the most common reason folks ask about "downgrading").
yeah defo needs to be s off or no chance of downgrading
My device is already S-off. I want to downgrade it due to temp root. :fingers-crossed:
I recently got the phone and I absolutely love it to death. I've been browsing on the Android development threads and I keep seeing threads like this "[OTA ZIP+TWRP] HTC Desire Eye 2.19.401.1 STOCK Europe 5.0.2 Lollipop" and that worries me a bit. I bought this phone from AT&T and there seems to be only like 2 threads mentioning it. My question is exactly like the title, will ROMs titled "Europe" work on AT&T or are they both the exact same model and it's only the carrier differences?

If you are running stock lollipop right now, you can unlock your bootloader through HTC Dev, and flash a custom recovery. Then you can use almost any custom rom available for the desire eye.
However, if you want to flash stock RUU of another region (eg: European firmware), you need to have S-off which costs 25$

OK thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I am running KitKat 4.4.4 and I don't know kw if there will be a lollipop update from AT&T. Is there any lollipop firmware for AT&T? Also what does S-Off means?

If you are running stock 4.4.4 and you are not rooted (and you don't have a custom recovery installed), you should be able to receive the OTA update to lollipop (check under software update)
There is a lollipop update available for the AT&T variant, so there shouldn't be any problems.
Achieving S-off (or security off) is only required for making changes that are not meant to be done by the average user. If you just want to try custom roms, you will be fine without it.

OK I just got the update from the AT&T update today and I am running 5.0.2 right now. As for custom ROMs (like Viper ROM or the de-odexed version) I need to enable S-Off right? Or is it only for firmware from a different region?

Okay, well done so far.
You don't need s-off, you only need to unlock your boot loader right now.
Visit this link:
http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader
Select your device (desire eye) and follow the instructions. Let me know if you had any questions.
After you unlocked your boot loader, you need a custom recovery, but that comes later. Unlock your boot loader first!

OK thank you for the link but won't unlocking your bootloader wipe the device? That's what I heard from some of the threads

Yes unfortunately it does wipe the entire internal storage for security reasons. So you have to backup your files.

You can't really backup your apps without root access. Just backup your files to your computer. You will have to install and configure your apps again after unlocking your device and flashing a custom Rom.

I am trying to update my firmware on my Verizon HTC One M7 from 1.10.605.08 all the way up so I can get Lollipop and then install Viper 9.0. I am S-Off and SuperCID and don't want to revert back because I no longer use my phone through Verizon. Any help in this area would be appreciated. I'm having problems finding the firmware updates needed to accomplish this and my understanding is that I can't just use the Stock Rooted 5.0.2 RUU because of how outdated my firmware is.
